I had such a great time touring Providence and I learned so much from the tour. Bradley explained everything so well and answered questions asked by the group. Check out providence tour company if you're a local like me and would like to learn more or if you're just visiting!!

Took the DIVE DEEPER INTO PROVIDENCE tour with other Yelpers. Bradley, the company owner, was knowledgeable, interesting and engaging. What a great way to spend a beautiful fall afternoon and we learned something to boot. Looking forward to trying another Providence Tour Company adventure soon (Maybe CRIME AND CUISINE!).

We recently made a trip to Providence, RI and while we were there needed something to do on a Sunday Afternoon. In researching I found the "Crime and Cuisine" tour from Providence Tour Company and was so excited when I found it. As a huge fan of the Crimetown podcast, this was right up my alley. We met up for the tour in the Federal Hill part of town and met our wonderful guide Kate K. She did great job leading our tour and teaching us all about the history and culture of the area! Along the tour you make stops a a number of restaurants and all of them were amazing stops with very tasty food! We had pasta and meatballs, a lemon dessert, slice of pizza, eggplant, and a couple other items! All of the servers were very friendly and happy to see us and you could tell they enjoyed the tour groups as well! Personally my favorite stop was the Italian Market, we wound up going back there later on to check out everything they carried! While the food was great, Kate also did a good job pointing out the important locations and telling us about the characters who lived in the area. Having some knowledge of the story of Federal Hill, it was neat to see many of the places I had heard and read about, but even if you had no background knowledge, this would still be a very fun and informative tour! I have suggested this tour to a few people already and I would strongly encourage you to go ahead and plan to spend some time in Federal Hill after the tour or come back as you will definitely want to go back to some of the stops after the tour!

Our tour with Crime & Cuisine in Providence was great! David is super knowledgeable, even sharing his own connections to the Italian mob stories of Federal Hill. The food & wines were all delicious, & I appreciated how great they were about my allergy. The walking isn't much, just enough to keep you on your feet and moving between stops. As a local, this was a great reminder of how rich the history is in this area.

Amazing food tour with Providence Tour Company on Federal Hill. Lots of great crime history and cultural immersion. Our tour guide was great and very informative. I would love to come back with some friends and family to share in the fun!

The Crime and Cuisine tour was very entertaining. Our tour guide is new to this tour and referred to her notes, but as a RI'er she knew first hand some of the stories she tells. Mobsters take up a fair share of the personalities discussed on the tour. Who doesn't love mobster story? But financial crises, politics and religion play a part. We also see many of the buildings here have historical significance. The businesses have changed, but the stories remain. The tour company has paired with a few business on Federal Hill giving both tourists and locals a chance to check out what is available to them. First up was Zooma. I've been here before and for the tour they set up a family style table. Everyone is offered a red or white wine, bread and oil are on the table as well as platters of spaghetti and meatballs. Next we stopped at Venda for savory puff pastry and savory popcorn. Both have pork, which I can't eat, by my SO enjoyed them. This is a grocery, deli, meat market so time to shop was available at this stop. At Roma we were treated to an eggplant rotini. This is actually my favorite food item on the tour with a tasty soft bread. They sell a few groceries and lots of prepared foods. Definitely a good stop for take away and they have a dining room and small bar in back which I did not know! Good stop. Then we had pizza at Napolitanos. Crispy thin crust with a cold drinks cooler and pizzeria style seating they also have a dining room to the side. Love all these little mom & pop type businesses! Dessert at Pastiche was the last stop with a choice from three dessert items. Between the stops are sprinklings of Federal Hill history. The tour ended in a nearby park with a final chapter in the Providence mafioso. Or is it?

In messaging Hocus Pocus Tours with a couple questions about the tour and travel to and from Salem, the owner Susan replied immediately and suggested that I call her. This led to a one hour phone conversation where Susan was so gracious with her time, knowledge, and suggestions, not just about how to make the most of the tour, but how to appreciate a day in Salem. I can see why those who had the opportunity to take the in-person tour with Susan really enjoyed it. Covid changed the business model and Hocus Pocus now offers a self-guided tour by purchasing one of two tour apps. I opted for the $19.99 grand tour and it was well worth it. It has 37 points of interest. The app is user friendly and well designed. It provides a map of all stops, tracks where you are, and guides you to the next stop that you select on the tour. When you get to your stop, you can confirm you're at the right spot by comparing a photo of the site with what you see. Then you click on a 2-3 minute audio recording that provides a great snapshot of the significance of the site. As Susan had pointed out to me, there is much more to Salem than the historic witchcraft trials. It includes author Nathaniel Hawthorne's The House of Seven Gables, America's oldest candy company, and other interesting sites. Of everything I visited, I experienced a very deep emotional connection with the 1692 Witchcraft Memorial with 20 stones dedicated to each of the victims of the witchcraft trial. The tour includes brief descriptions of some of the victims including those written about in Arthur Miller's The Crucible. If you plan to visit Salem, I highly recommend this tour. All sites can be visited on the outside and some on the inside at no charge. Some sites, such as The House of Seven Gables, charge separate admission fees. If you want to travel to Salem and don't have a car, the ferry from Boston offers a nice, scenic, and entertaining 50 minute ride. The commuter trains run more frequently and can come in handy if the ferry schedule coming or going doesn't meet your needs. There are plenty of good places to dine at to break up the tour. We had lunch at FINZ and really enjoyed it (I'll post separately about that).

Start off with the tour guides, extremely friendly and beyond knowledgeable. They really know their history for Salem. The tour itself was a few hours and you walk to all of the sites in Salem with historical significance. There is so much to learn from Salem. So much history and heartbreak. It really is eye opening to hear the stories oof the witch trials and how the witch trials began and who all was wrongly persecuted. The tour guides were so nice and explained everything with such great details. This tour was definitely the highlight of our trip in Salem. I highly highly recommend Hocus Pocus Tours, I learned so much regarding Salem, the witch trials, the history behind the two, and a little bit of Hocus Pocus and Bewitched. So much fun!

I get it trips get cancelled when there aren't enough people signed up for it. But in this case, they didn't even bother to tell me/us. Even got the confirmation/reminder email the day before. So being at the pickup point and its 5 minutes after we're supposed to leave, I call them to see what's going on and then they tell me it got cancelled and I should've been told Tuesday, but obviously wasn't and again, even got the confirmation/reminder email the day before. As someone that doesn't get a lot of time out work to burn a day off with nothing to show for it is extremely frustrating, and honestly, I just can't risk getting burned again. The owner Ted called later that day offering to make it right and I was refunded the money for the trip and the other trip I cancelled but I can't risk burning another day off with nothing to show for it. The people have always been nice, so I won't completely knock them, but beware even getting a confirmation email the day doesn't mean the trip is happening.
