The approach was classic Block Island: a little dramatic, a little beautiful, a little "who approved building a runway here?" Even in the sim, the coastline hits you with that New England melancholy that makes you wonder why you don't live your whole life near the ocean. Touchdown was smooth enough that, for a second, we all forgot we were sitting in living rooms with snacks instead of oil-stained airfields with stories. But honestly? The atmosphere pulled us in anyway. Block Island Airport doesn't need to try. It just exists in that charming, scruffy way small airports do--real or virtual. And then there was the diner. In real life, Bethany's Airport Diner--now renamed Ellen's--still holds the same soul. Different name, same vibe. And the food? Exactly the kind of no-nonsense comfort you hope for when you wander into an island airport hungry and sunburned. Eggs, toast, coffee that wakes you up without asking permission... the kind of meal that tastes honest. Even in the sim, we joked about stopping in like we could actually smell the griddle. That's how you know a place is good: when it sticks with you in worlds where it technically doesn't exist. Our little crew parked our digital planes, snapped too many screenshots, and soaked in the weirdly perfect blend of nostalgia and adventure. For a moment, we weren't teachers, pilots, gamers, or whatever titles life sticks us with. We were travelers. Block Island Airport does that to you--whether your wheels leave the ground or not.

Perfect day trip--great way to explore Newport and Jamestown…read more While winging it around Newport this past weekend, our thoughtful server at the White Horse Tavern recommended we check out the Jamestown Newport Ferry--and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. We arrived casually at the dock around 10 AM and hopped on without much planning. Our first stop was Fort Adams, where we enjoyed some surprisingly interesting historical sights. The timing was perfect--about an hour and ten minutes later, the next ferry arrived and took us to Rose Island Lighthouse. That visit was a standout. The guide was excellent, and we were fascinated to learn you can actually stay overnight at the lighthouse--definitely something we're planning to do in the future. (Fair warning: if you're not a fan of birds or geese, you might want to skip this stop.) Next, we cruised over to Jamestown, where the ferry crew recommended the Narraganset tavern and dinner at JB's on the Water. Enjoyed both. We were back in Newport by around 7 PM, totally relaxed, and without ever feeling rushed. Fine people, friendly staff, no stress--just a great way to experience the bay. I highly recommend the Jamestown Newport Ferry if you're visiting the area.

I am currently in a musical in Jamestown, and always try to take the boat over when I can- it gets me in the right zen headspace to do my best at rehearsal, and what better way to soak up the last few warm days before we head into fall and winter? The ferry offers different ticket packages (I usually just go for the discounted "Evening Special" ticket, but there's a daylong "Hop On Hop Off" pass where you can travel from Jamestown to Fort Adams, to Downtown Newport, and even the Rose Island Lighthouse at leisure. If I had more free time, that would be a great way to see the area for sure. Prices are reasonable (20-40 USD per guest, depending on the ticket type), and it's a wonderful way to see the City by the Sea on the sea! The boats are rustic but comfortable, with padded benches and enough seating for 20-25 guests per vessel. The crew is friendly, and alcoholic and soft beverages are available for purchase on board. Definitely add this fun ferry crossing to your itinerary next time you are in Newport!

While the home is a beautiful home....Emma Rose who runs this place is completely unscrupulous! My…read morefamily and I had rented this home 2 summers ago from Lila Delman...we put a $1000 deposit on the house and received the entire deposit back when we left as we left the home in immaculate condition. This year we rented the home direct from Emma Rose and also gave her $1000 deposit. The morning we left the house we spent 4 hours cleaning the entire house from top to bottom even though we had already paid Emma Rose a $350 cleaning fee and were under no obligation to do so....we wanted to leave the house in the same condition it was in when we arrived & left it the way we would want someone to leave our home! We had 2 dogs with us and were so thankful we were able to bring them that we cleaned, swept and swiffered the house on a daily basis to leave no trace that dogs were even there. We also had all trash removed at our expense even though that was also included in the cleaning fee that we paid her. When we contacted her to get our deposit back she claimed the house was left in a filthy condition with "sand" & garbage everywhere and that she would not be returning our deposit. A week had passed since we had left and in that time she made no attempt to contact us about the condition that we "supposedly" left the house in! It was only after I contacted her did she start coming up with completely false accusations. I am appalled at the lie upon lie she is willing to tell in order to keep our $1000! Rent at your own risk & document absolutely everything you can! Beware....large rats on the property also!
