I opened a savings account for my son when he was five months old at this location. The process was very easy. I found the customer service rep to be helpful and polite. My son was with me at the time and was a bit fussy; she didn't mind. I've gone back a few times and the branch manager noticed my son's savings account and sold me on a certificate of deposit. That was a very easy process, too! I like how easy it is to use the banking app and customer service by phone has also been easy. Member of 30+ years (my FIRST CU). Became a member of 3 additional CU since ( with at least 20+ years with each). While I have not had issues with any employees, the philosophy and practice of this CU are more of a Bank than of a CU. I have multiple loans, applications for loans and credit cards, etc. PCCU has been more challenging to work with than any other CU. It is a very business-like CU unlike any of my other CU. I won't rate them a 1 since my personal experiences have been OK but not a 5 either (based on experience with my other CU). That being said, I would still rate them much higher than any bank with a lot to improve. especially for members who struggling financially. Not sure if my experience is unique or common compared to other long-term POC members. still good CU so not bashing. Maybe the VISION of this CU needs to be reexamined. read more

Friday evening about 5:45 I received a call from Benjamin at the Belmont Provident Branch asking me about being a trustee on an account name I didn't recognize. I asked for his name and branch again, and said I'd call back in 5 minutes. I looked up the Provident number in the phone book (old school, I know), called the branch, and Benjamin answered the phone. I apologized for being suspicious, but wanted to make sure his call was not a scam as I am a trustee on a trust - just not the name he gave. Benjamin gave me the name of the trust again and said the trustee listed had the same name as me, but with no social or phone number listed. The Trustor had called the branch to make a high 5-figure withdrawl, and Benjamin said it sounded like the elderly Trustor was being coached on what to say by someone in the background. The branch was suspicious and trying to contact the trustee to see if the request was legitimate. The bank records showed I had an account with them, they had my contact information, and was hoping I was the correct trustee. I wish I had been so the problem would have been solved, and I hope the branch located the correct trustee. Receiving this call made my happy that Provident is vigilant on behalf of it's customers. I hope I'm giving a review for the correct Location. 1050 El Camino Real #C, Belmont CA. I made an appointment online to be able to sit down with a representative to establish an account. My dilemma is that I'm a Navy fed member and there aren't any in the Bay area, nor shared branches. I was in need of a cashiers check of a substantial amount and money orders were not an option. Not familiar with the area I was thinking just start an account just to get the cashier check, but I also started thinking about what if I had to keep a certain amount in the bank, what if I had to have the account a certain amount of time to be able to retrieve all my monies. So many what ifs. I spoke to a representative/associate named Keri who was an angel. Soooo informative, knowledgeable and suggested what would best fit my needs as a traveling nurse and the time I have left here in Belmont. She was kind and very helpful which I appreciated so much. Frankly I have been sticking with Provident as they have lower interest rates for their credit cards and no transaction fees when you are traveling internationally. But they have also started to proactively monitor your accounts for any security issues, not just fraudulent transactions. While their customer service & online banking is also improving. I have had two incredibly unprofessional transactions with Provident Credit Union. My brokerage issued a check to our trust for which my wife and I are both trustees and trustors. We both showed up at the bank with the trust documents and ID and they would not straight deposit the check into our joint account. Time to become a big boy bank Provident. Then, a fraudulent charge of over $1200 appeared in my checking account for AirBnB which I have no relationship with. Provident was rude and evasive and denied my claim. I have over six accounts for loans and banking with these schmoes and they still don't get it. They had an "investigation" and did not inform me of the result. Claim denied! Called me a thief and a liar and hung me out to dry for over $1200. I called AirBnB and resolved it with one phone call. I'm not even their customer but they issued the refund within days. Provident is not running a professional organization and it's time to close the ties and find something better. read more

I have been coming here a couple times in the past couple of years since its on the main road and just more convenient. I usually don't have to go to the tellers because the ATM is outside the building I had a situation a while ago where my bank account was totally withdrawn and after blaming this company, I have to say that the branch manager did an amazing job researching the information and helping me through this devastating problem. I was so clueless on what was going on and Theresa did a good job giving me numbers of people to get in touch with that can help me. Although my bank (Travis Credit union) was totally wrong for what they did I truly thank this branch manager for helping me and assisting me Mostly new bank tellers but Theresa does a good job training them. I was a satisfied customer of Provident for more than a year. Then in January I deposited two checks and they were held for 6 days with no explanation. Prior to this funds were always available immediately. In the time I've been a customer I have never once bounced a check or deposited a bad check. I called and was told they have a right to hold my checks. I kept asking them why there was a sudden change. All they would tell me is they have a right to hold my checks. I have no idea why they suddenly started enforcing this policy. They do have a right to do this but it shows exceptionally poor customer service that they refused to explain this sudden change. All they had to do was say "We haven't always enforced this policy in the past but now we will be more rigorous about this with all customers now" Or they could have said "Your balances have been a bit low lately and so we are now enforcing this policy". I totally understand they can do this but they were complete dicks about it. And I can't help but wonder if there is something else going on here. I can't help but feel this is discriminatory in nature. If it wasn't they would be able to be honest about it. I closed out my accounts and opened at SF Fire Credit Union. According to Nerd Wallet they have the highest customer satisfaction in the bay area for Credit Unions. Another friend of mine recently left Provident after 7 years with them. I think this place is going down hill. They seem to have shifted and are acting like a big corporate bank instead of a local credit union. You can go to Chase or Bank of America if you want to get treated like crap and have better technology and more branch locations. read more

I finally left the BIG bank B of A and joined Provident and I couldn't be more happy! After the switch I realized that Provident has a little different way of doing things. I made some assumptions and didn't ask any questions and incurred quite a few OD charges... B of A would of made me eat them of course because after 20 years with them one mistake and they aren't willing to work with you, BUT NOT PROVIDENT.. I called and spoke to Christina S. and not only was she pleasant and understanding of my situation she filled me in on many options I have with provident and was able to get ALL my charges reversed!! Thank goodness that there is still banks who relate to you and make you feel like the #1 customer. Christina was the best and such a big help! read more

I have been VERY disatisfied with this lender from the very beginning. My experience has been nothing but a hassle from the first day, losing my payments, forcing me to buy insurance when I already had insurance, losing that again twice, billing me for an insurance policy ( twice!) when I already had full covereage on my car ( the very same insurance I had since the day I bought the car, and the same policy I presented when I refinanced with Provident. VERY shady; makes it look like Provident tries to spring unwarranted insurance on the borrower), and so on and so on. I am selling my car in the next couple of days. When I do, the first I will be doing is pay off the loan with them and forget about Provident. Customer service is "nice", but bottom line is results, not charms. I do not go to a lender to have my hand held; I go there to do business, and give them an opportunity to make money. I asked for help on a new used-auto loan for a vehicle $5000 under book ( another Mercedes Benz, thus a very good risk for them). They say no. I already have an auto loan currently with them, likely my last. Provident gets a D in my book. read more

I have been a Bank of America customer for over 15 years with mixed experiences. But avoiding the fees at BofA was such a headache, even though they would always credit them back to me. While BofA is now more lenient with helping customers avoid fees, when I heard about Provident giving 2.26% APY on their Super Rewards Checking (now it is reduced to 2.01%) I went down to the branch in Belmont to see if it was too good to be true. Not only do they rarely charge a fee, but they pay 40 times the interest that my BofA savings account does (2.01%:0.05%). It was a no-brainer! I spoke with a teller (forget her name) and one of their Personal Account Officers, Chad. Everyone was very nice and I really had a great experience. I signed up that day and was later phoned by someone from corporate thanking me for opening an account. The teller was very forthcoming. When I made a deposit she made sure to inform me that the funds may not be available for a week or so. This didn't matter to me as I planned to leave it in there to earn that 2% interest. Still, it shows that they are empathetic and care about conveying potentially important information. I have recommended Provident to all of my friends and family and have been very satisfied with them so far. read more

Had a great experience setting up an auto loan here yesterday. Got a referral from the dealership I was looking at cars at that this would be a good place and to ask for Chad. Must have called this poor guy back at least a dozen times throughout the day. Every single time I called back the lady who answered the phone first was very friendly and quickly put me through to Chad. This was a very nice change in pace after dealing with insurance companies. I was a bit surprised and relieved I didn't have to listen to an automated voice recording before reaching him each time. During my car buying experience, I had dealt with many credit unions other dealerships had worked with, receiving interest rates all over the board. Not sure why everyone doesn't go here first. It was so good I opened a checking and savings account. I was banking with Patelco with over 15 years and I never knew you can have such great customer service. The service was very personal and professional. I checked other credit unions ratings and this one is high ranking. I don't mind crossing a bridge just to go to this one. My interest rate was the below 3% and once my direct direct deposit activates I will have to choose to close my Patelco or let it idle. I got on the Provident website and like it even more. Went to this branch for opening a checking account after viewing so many great reviews in yelp and beyond. Although I was a little doubtful that they are going to impress me I was pleasantly surprised to find out that all the reviews were true. First off all there is no line to wait and we were welcomed by a friendly and smiling teller who, after I told her what I want, refer us to the branch manager, Junius. He took care of us and made all my requests come true. Now I am a happy customer with a checking account, credit card and an amazing 1, 76 % interest on my checking account. The only downfall is their pretty shaky and instability of smarthphone app for banking with them. Hope they fix this soon cause is annoying to be kick out of the app or not even let yo connect.
