I came into this store every day during my stay in Sag Harbor. Today, the shop was nearly empty and I ordered three of the same juices for my family. When I let the staff know they had made the wrong juice, I was treated with hostility, accused of being rude for simply clarifying my order, and banned from a store I had loyally supported all week. An older blonde woman - who I've ironically seen be unpleasant with customers all week - was irritated the moment I questioned the order. She snapped at me for inspecting it. When I explained how it red instead of green, she ordered me to taste it, then seemed annoyed when I told her it contained ingredients that weren't in what I had ordered. I tried to explain what I'd ordered and the substitution I'd made, but she and another brunette employee became increasingly hostile. As they all began bickering amongst themselves about what was in each juice on the menu, so I offered to write down my order to help - at which point the older blonde woman told me I was being rude and said to the other employees that she was "ready to fight me." Over kale and chard... at 9:30 a.m.? Her behavior was so disturbing I just walked away and sat down with my husband, mother, and my baby - all of whom had been watching all of this unfold in shock as we waited for the amended order. Then, while we were sitting quietly, she told me I was banned from the store. Both my husband and my mother - dumbfounded asked why clarifying a juice order warranted being banned. Her response? To my husband, she snapped, "What are you, the boyfriend?" and to my mother - who was with our baby - "I'm not speaking to you." And the manager? He didn't ask a single question or review video footage. He simply said he was going to stand by her wishes. The reality is, I'm just passing through. We were genuinely excited to stock up on some of the great products before heading home -- but now I'll just order everything online. And frankly, it's a shame. This health food store has just about any healthy food item you could want- except for when it comes to their smoothie selection!!. I was looking for a protein rich nut based smoothie, but was very disappointed to see the only option was a peanut butter type smoothie. No almond butter, no other nut butters. Considering how many people have peanut allergies, I was really quite surprised! Almond butter is really not uncommon, and how hard would it be to have more than one nut smoothie options?! read more

They bring the food to the table outside to you and ask if you want to tip when you pay. There's a few tables outside but no waitress service you clean up yourself. Everything on the menu looks and sounds amazing, I tried a couple items from the market and it is a bit underwhelming. The food is definitely fresh, and the grocery store is unique with a variety of local and healthy items to purchase. Had lunch with a friend here today. The chicken and rice soup we both had looked and tasted like lukewarm dishwater. No seasoning, not much rice, and cubes of chicken with fatty skin attached. The worst part... the bread served had blue mold on it. ( The nice lady working there did apologize and gave us mold-free bread when the problem was pointed out) We also both had the turkey tacos consisting of 2 very, very bland tacos served with a green salad with absolutely no seasoning or dressing, just a simple dry salad mix. I had some hot tea which was good. Total for this underwhelming meal? $50 plus a cash tip in the tip jar. Not going back again. read more

Visited this cafe for breakfast. Delicious coffee! Wonderful gluten free breakfast while my meat eating companion was also able to have a meal to his liking. He loved the breakfast burrito and I loved the tofu wrap in a bowl. They have hemp milk for the smoothies to please the super elite among us, present company included. The attached grocery store has great stuff gives me the feel of my favorite stores in Ithaca, NY and Boulder, CO. Lovely and helpful staff, clean place, priced well even for the Hamptons. Pleasant indoor or outdoor dining seating areas and Mountain Valley glass bottled water available. Couldn't get any better than this little gem in Sag Harbor. read more

I crave a morning juice of beets & oranges & lots of ginger, and I miss your tofu/quinoa bowl. Provisions, I adore you. I adore your fresh produce and your brilliantly curated selection of healthy snacks. (Healthy snacks are at the bottom of my food pyramid.) But Provisions, when I order a large juice in the morning and you give me a small, and then you don't fix it when I ask you to, even though I've already paid for it, it makes me feel like I am not loved back. I like the juices and freshly made food. Most of the items are organic and non-GMO/non-pesticide which is great (especially if you have kids!). I just wish they had grass fed meat dishes on the menu. Edited to add: at the supermarket you will find some really nice beauty products, many of which are small batch production and from small companies. I appreciate the environmental effort this store goes through. They provide you with paper straws, and glasses for water. It seemed like it was taking longer than it should. So I inquired of the young woman who took the order when it would be ready. She said, with attitude, "we'll call your # when it's ready" (Not even close to "let me check on that"). A short time later, I start hearing them call numbers 10 or 12 higher than ours. I finally asked my wife to approach the same employee at the counter, who said "well, it's been sitting here waiting to be picked up" . The employee claimed that it had been marked as a "call in order", when she had taken the order herself about 25 minutes prior. Decided that instead of spending $9 on a salmon roll at a nearby Japanese place, we would get some quick, cheap sandwiches and have a picnic on the beach. Unfortunately, we were in the Hamptons, so the quick and cheap part was already out the window. Nobody can figure out the system here, if there is one. There are two entrances where people will approach the sandwich counter from opposite sides. Instead of making a clear "line begins here" sign, people basically just stand in a glom and push in front of each other to place orders. Then you get an electronic buzzer and a receipt. Then, without anyone telling you, you are apparently supposed to know to take this receipt to the front of the store and pay, and then wait in the narrow aisles while getting in as many peoples way as possible until your buzzer goes off. Surprisingly, this "system" isn't very efficient, and all the zoned out moms with young children are even more prominent and confused than they are elsewhere, which I didn't think was possible. On to the food, my wrap wasn't anything special-- I could only actually eat half of it, which was a huge waste of $12 (but so is everything out here). And by the way, for these prices the cartons of strawberries should not be covered in white mold. C'mon, guys! read more

Let me first say that Provisions is really the only thing of its kind in the area, and they've been doing the same thing for decades. They've got a little market and a little cafe, and everything is geared towards folks who own at least one yoga mat and might still have that John Kerry bumper sticker on their car. Whether or not I fall into those categories is irrelevant, but that's who they serve and that's fine. After all, that population is seriously underserved in the East End, where you'll get a more coherent response if you ask for whale blubber than if you ask for tempeh. And for what they do, Provisions is reasonably good. My problem with Provisions? It's the wraps. I'm just not into them. I mean, what is a wrap but a burrito made with a flavored tortilla and cut in half? And what use is a burrito cut in half, when the whole point of a burrito is to be able to eat it with your hands, and having it cut in half makes that so much more difficult and messy? I guess you could say I'm just not into health food, but that's not it. You could also say that I'm unsympathetic to anyone who wants to eat half of their burrito now and save the rest for later, but I'm not buying that either - if that's your thing, then it should be wrapped in tinfoil when you buy it so that it can be closed back up whenever you want. (You could also say I'm unsympathetic to people who want to eat burritos with forks. To that I say "Yes, and I dislike bigots too.") Here's what I think: I'm just not into *uncreative* health food, and I worry that Provisions' Cafe might fit that description. Anyway. I like Provisions just fine, I guess, and if I need some nutritional yeast then that's the place I'd go. But it's just not interesting enough for me to take a trip there on a whim. Sure they've got a full line of Ecover cleaning products and a whole aisle of natural skin- and bodycare potions, but what I really want is a wider selection of natural meats or a peanut butter grinder or bulk olive oil. But whatever. If you're out here from the city and want to feel like you're getting in touch with nature, Provisions is your place. The cramped cafe will make you feel like you know everyone there, and they've got enough differently scented Dr. Bronner's varieties for you to create distinct olfactory experiences for each of the bathrooms in your weekend house. So go ahead, have fun there - just don't tell me how unique it is. Note: I had a lot of fun writing this review, and mean no offense by it - not to the ownership, staff or clientele. I just needed to rant for a minute, and I'll point that most of my rant had very little to do with Provisions itself and more to do with silly, tangentially related subjects... I hope. I have been coming out here for years and years and it isn't until recently that I found this great place.Driven past it but was buying my "provisions" in the city and in the last few years at King Kullen in Bridgehampton. I spent an hour roaming up and down the aisles. First I needed some organic dates,check.($,not cheap). Then, some agave.Options, excellent. Coconut flakes,prepackaged,again, options. There were organic clothes,I got a beautiful brown tank top,and cosmetics,love my Dr. H. And cute jewelry, got a cute "om" necklace. There is a cafe, the smoothies looked good,don't know yet but will have one next time out.Picked up a nice cloth bag that I have been using everyday. I can get all my organic needs met,very zen, and then find myself right next to the docks for a calm walk and some soothing rolling waves.Nice. Will visit them every time I come out. read more

I have been eating and shopping here for many many years. Of course based on prices anywhere else - too expensive! The food is very good - it used to be too healthful (ie. tasteless) but it is much better now. It can get very crowded and hard to find somewhere to sit and they have this strange way of ordering - first you order, then take the ticket up front and pay, then bring it back stamped paid! Best tempeh reuben ever. Like, if for some reason I got famous and was on Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate, this would be the first thing I would have to mention. This is like the only thing that I can wait on line for for 30 minutes without complaint in the world. Just this sandwich is worth the summer traffic to get out to Sag Harbor. Can you tell I'm in love? Pricey for sure but came here on my first weekend in sag harbor and got an amazing vegan quesadilla and afterwards some bulk foods which I can't seem to find anywhere else in the town centre. The food is always good, great variety (in terms of over all products) and the staff knows its stuff. Specially when compared to the little outlets with which chains like Whole Foods or King Kullen are trying to monopolize even the organic market and squeeze top dollars out of something that started out good while paying minimum wages to its demotivated staff you have to give Provisions credit. After Sen, this is my second Sag Harbor staple for food. I worked at this organic haven for a brief summer and have been hooked ever since on their delicious smoothies (Green Vibrance is my fav), goat cheese wrap, and chicken burrito with free range, organic chicken. Eating in the cafe makes you feel like you're doing something good for your body (though it is a bit pricey). Provisions is great. They have a ton of healthy food options in the cafe, and a decent selection of very fairly priced organic produce. The staff is friendly if you are. The prices for dry and canned goods are exactly what you'd expect in the Hamptons. (I can't believe how many people on yelp come to the most expensive part of the country and complain about prices.) Anyway, good food, good staff...the only drawback is the size of the place. In the summer it gets very cramped, but they do the best they can with what they've got. I'm not sure if their management changed or what, but the store manager in particular (or whoever she was) had serious attitude. Tree huggers and bankers alike crowd into the small cafe, that during good weather spills outside on to not-so-stable metal cafe tables. Favs are vegetable stir fry (sounds boring, it's not), avocado and goat cheese wraps, juices, soups (carrot ginger and lentil are hits), and lots of other good, healthful stuff. Great from breakfast (delicious egg and tofu wraps), through lunch, you never know who you'll be rubbing shoulders with, and trust me, you'll be so close to someone you will be rubbing shoulders.
