Let's first acknowledge the T.S. Eliot reference.. Such an interesting name for a cafe! The coffee is good.. I'm not an expert but they sell lots of home roasting stuff and other goods for coffee lovers. They always have a vegan option for lunch and it never disappoints. Last time I had an avocado-chili-EVOO sandwich and let me just say they were really generous with the avocado. I'd love to have a vegan baked goods option! Prufrock is spacious and very bright. Good working atmosphere. They have outlets near the window and wifi. Tables are small but it never seems too crowded somehow. Service is fast and genuinely nice. Bathroom is way in the back and the sink is outside which is good if you just quickly want to wash your hands before eating. (Always wash your hands kids!) read more

Awesome place for studying I went to Department of Coffee and Social Affairs, down the road, and it wasn't as quiet as here. Prufrock is an amazing place to have a coffee - by far the best espresso I've ever had - and study. Staff is not as friendly as down the road, this is true, but they don't mind if you stay some hours working. Chairs could be a bit more comfortable. Definitely coming back! read more

Study spot requirements: Plentiful seating: Throughout a Friday afternoon, there were always tables available. They have small 1-2 person tables and a few larger round tables for up to 4 people, probably. Locally owned: Yep, and apparently owned by a UK and World Barista Champion. They seem like a little family and they interact playfully and joyfully with one another, which is sort of enjoyable to watch. Relaxed atmosphere: More of like, upbeat laid-back... the place is always bustling, and the staff, like I said, is always buzzing and doing stuff, so it's not quiet, and it's not calm, but it's also not uncomfortable. It's sort of like, "we've got all this stuff going on, but do your thing". Quality coffee: Obviously. On their menu, they have espresso (£1.80) and then espresso + milk, in three sizes (4-6-8 oz? 6-8-10? Something like that, starting at £2.20ish), and two varieties of filter coffee (£3.50-4). I'm sure they can whip up other varieties, but really... espresso + milk is what you're going for, and they do it really well... so just let them decide on the proportions, eh? I'm generally amused by the fuss put into filter coffee in London, and Prufrock is definitely fussy, with a "filter bar" and all sorts of contraptions and the fancy serving system. It'd be fun to come here with a coffee snob and sit at said bar and get both varities of filter coffee and espresso and do a taste test. I'm willing to bet the staff would be all about it. Snacks: A couple kinds of sandwiches, soup and a few pastries. I think their pretzel is delicious and a steal at £1.50 and I've heard two people vocally enjoying a brownie. Price: As detailed above Wi-fi: Free wi-fi, ask for the password at the counter. No outlets, as far as I could discover. read more

A large space with quite minimal / simple furniture adds to a relaxed feeling. The counter is a well oiled production line with strict process from payment through barista to serving. You will need just a tad of patience since it's a studied process. It's one of those places filled with people who are designed to sit in coffee shops with mac books. I like the pragmatism of the sign that just says "Espresso with milk" that comes in 4,6 or 8oz sizes. A good place like Prufrock just knows how to make a good coffee and doesn't need the fancy descriptors that can disappoint on the product delivery. The coffee was delicious. Don't know about the people hailing it as the best in London but definitely very good (on a par with other great coffee places I have been to). read more

I really like it here, maybe not so much at Dept of Coffee across the road, but it's just as nice coffee-wise. Environment-wise, it's a little more homely and perhaps more warm (DoC is pretty stark), and of course much bigger. Agonisingly hip, always busy, lives up to the hype Surprisingly not in the trendy East End, Prufrock commands its location as part of the Farringdon sprawl. It's worth the slight uphill trek from Farringdon station and is probably the best place to start your street food crawl on a weekday. The coffee has been unfailingly very good every time I've been and it's always busy no matter what time of day; of course I want to be in with the in crowd! Make a special effort, it will pay dividends. read more

You can come in here from the hustle and bustle of Leather Lane market and find a nice serene location that has wifi and great coffee, as well as very knowledgeable staff. Yay I'm a fan of the coffee. But boo, do not get lunch here or you will leave hungry. My office recently moved to a new location that is roughly a 5 min walk from Prufrock. I was ecstatic ----immediately went there today for my Friday lunch out. I couldn't go to Prufrock without ordering a coffee, so I had myself a flat white. It's a pretty milky flat white, but still very good quality coffee. I also ordered a Guinness Beef stew. That was a huge disappointment. In taste, it was alright. In size...well, if I had an eating disorder, then maybe it might be the right size for me. But seriously wtf? If you've ever been to Fleet River Bakery, their soups are about 2x the size of the stew here and £2 cheaper. Moreover, there were literally 2 pieces of beef in it. Two. I don't know about you, but I need some proper protein bits in my mid-day meal. I was still hungry after having the stew, so I bought another lunch....elsewhere. I really don't know how a guy could eat this for lunch and be full---no way if I couldn't (I'm a 5'2" tiny little girl). But I guess that explains why hipster guys are so skinny....... Anyway, long story short, come here for their coffee and cakes, but don't order anything else unless you just want a snack size meal. read more

Being a self confessed 'coffee-nerd', Prufrock is always on the top list of recommendations of fellow nerds and I was originally taken here by a Farringdon local. However, I've got to say I really don't understand the hype. Maybe I'm missing something that everyone else seems to see, the staff weren't all that friendly and came across a little stand-offish. While the airy, open plan cafe is actually quite lovely to chill out in and do a little people watching outside or by the big windows, it lacks a certain something that would make me want to keep on coming back. After my first disappointing visit, I thought I'd give it a second try and still, no love came from me for the coffee. While it's a cool looking place with cute branding - rabbit stamps on the take out cups and tote bags - and the food looks quite nice (maybe I should pop back and try this too) - for coffee, it's nothing to shout about. read more

Prufrock, well worth a visit: Good coffee, friendly atmosphere, a nice coffee shop. It took me some time until I finally went to Prufrock in Leather Lane on a Saturday afternoon. The place was busy, but not too busy. I enjoyed the simple interior and the great and really friendly atmosphere. As expected, my coffee was good and randomly I got involved in a conversation with my neighbours. I had a fun and interesting time at Prufrock and will definitely be back soon for another coffee. read more

This is the best flat white I had in London. We were visting from the States and attempted to drink as many flats whites as possible in a week. Up until this point I had never gotten a decent espresso drink out of a Nuova Simonelli machine. This one was amazingly smooth and just plain delicious. The shop is located down a small street, but it is worth the effort to get there. As my wife sipped out of her take away cup down the block, she wanted to immediately turn around and get another round. She knew it would never be better than this! NOTE: If you're an American and drink cappuccinos from Blue Bottle, Stumptown, Intelligentsia, etc. you need to order Flat Whites in the UK to get the same drink you are used to having. read more

Oh Prufrock. Absolutely amazing coffee. They usually have 3 different kinds of filter coffee. I went with Kongo, which is a hot seller for them right now according to the barista. However, I did dish out £6.5 for a very small mug of it. Which is expensive, even for coffee shops. They only order a small amount of it which is why it's so pricey, and have a lower priced filter at £3.5, so one doesn't need to get the most expensive one The barista explained that the lowest priced filter coffee was a very good place to start for people who don't enjoy filter coffee or haven't tried it. The baristas were all very helpful and friendly. The place is very hipster but has tons of seating and was a good place to spend a few hours. Their avocado toast is ridiculously amazing and probably the best avocado toast I've ever had anywhere. read more

Coffee is decent and they got amazing fresh cinnamon buns but the place is let down by loud music which causes all the clients to speak loud. So instead of having a fresh cup of coffee in the morning in a peaceful environment and setting yourself for a productive day you end up being in a club like environment and leaving agitated. read more

Prufrock coffee was my local when I lived in the Barbican. Solid coffee, pastries, minimalist space with ample seating on Leather Lane. I found it a good spot to catch up with writing/reading and to meet friends. If it were too busy I went up the road to the Good and Proper Teashop. I suppose I hadn't written a review until now, as there is little to criticise, and at the same little of uniqueness to rave about. It's just a good coffee shop with everything you need. read more

Sometimes you read the side of a bag of beans and it describes the different fruity, chocolatey tones etc. I've always been a bit sceptical - a bit like Jilly Goolden or Oz Clarke going on about the ripe plums in a good bottle of wine. Well here the coffee is so good that you can actually taste this. The coffee hasnt been overroasted, scorched, over/under extracted etc that each element of what is advertised is detectable. These flavours come though in both shot, flat white and latte. If you want to know what real coffee tastes like, go here, but beware - unless you live/work closeby, you'll find your local chain coffee house outside your office tasting like a shot of bitter black water. read more

Coffee was good although my flat white was just luke warm...which was annoying given how long they took to made it. I didn't mind waiting at all, just didn't think it would come out warm. I had to basically chug it down because I knew it would get cold very quickly given that the shop itself was freezing. I couldn't have done work in there just with how cold it was- I looked around and everyone was wearing their jackets! Staff was rude...no smiles, no friendliness, & they seemed very unhappy. As a huge fan of the Prufrock stand at Present I had so high expectations of the cafe. I think i might have hit it at an off moment. The latte was very good--definitely on par for what I would have expected, but the croissant was disappointing (and the only food they offer is a croissant or almond croissant). And there was something off about the atmosphere--really quiet with classical music playing (I thought it would have had an edgier vibe). I'll definitely check it out again and try some of the other coffee offerings. Hopefully I'll hit a better vibe. read more

Was in London in April for study away and wanted to grab a coffee with my lunch from Leather Lane. Walked in with my boyfriend who was carrying our lunch. We get in line to order our coffees and the barista, before even asking what we would like to order says "you can't bring food in here." I say ok and ask if it's ok if we order and then take our stuff outside. Barista ignores my question about ordering and continues to tell us we can't bring food in. I again tell him that I can take the food outside while my boyfriend orders. He finally stops his stupid rant and lets my boyfriend order his espresso. He then kindly reminds us as we are LEAVING that there is no street food allowed in the shop. Look, I understand that is his job is to serve customers only and to make sure that only customers of the coffee shop are using the seating areas inside, but he didn't have to be such a rude jerk about it. If you want to gain customers, maybe try to be a bit nicer when explaining store policies and still let people order/spend money at your establishment even if they are HOLDING (not eating or opening) food from outside. Will never return here and I say all tourists/new customers stay away because they are so rude to new customers because they don't know the store policies (even though you actually might want a coffee/spend money there). Also, it is SO EXPENSIVE there and the coffee is literally so bitter past the point of "good dark coffee". Tasted like acid uhhhh. read more

Loved the atmosphere here, but the place seemed to be more a shop than a coffee joints. Anyways, it is an amazing space, and the staff is friendly. The day of my visit I went there to try their coffee, but I realized tea takes still an important place even there. So I order my cappuccino at the counter and pay immediately, but I wasn't attract by their cakes, somehow they felt not so appealing to me.. At £3, it is an okay price, okay because it is light in coffee.. So I guess I should ask for two shots in order to get the same ratio of coffee and milk in comparison to Paris or NYC. After I took a seat, it was great, because you can take all your time, they have plenty of space and I liked to have a direct view on the kitchen. I haven't try their food, but it looked so yummy :) A street market takes place just in front this coffee shop, and it appear to be cheap! Loved the neighborhood too. read more

Easily serves one of the best lattes I've had in London, with a strong kick and notes of cinnamon (when I came by at least). The staff are friendly and there's plenty of space to do work or simply chill and chat to friends. I love the interior, and if you weren't a fan of coffee before, you probably will be when you leave. If you can, stay for a cup, because those are huge cups, and you can definitely afford to soak in the fantastic atmosphere while you're at it. Highly recommended for a work break. read more

Prufrock is a wonderful coffee shop, one of the best in London. The coffee is excellent and expertly-crafted. I also got banana bread: a generous portion toasted and topped with butter - yum! The atmosphere is laid-back, and the staff is quite friendly. Been here twice now and they still aren't open. The coffee is off the scale, but so it should be its Mr Davies. I could go on but it seems the sticking point in the below review is service. I found it to be out standing, great conversations with Gwilym and Jeremy (?). Was welcomed back with a smile on my second visit. They were accommodating of my whims. Prufrock is not a cafe as far as I see it. Cafes have sacrificed quality and personality for industrialisation and speed. London was the home of the first coffee houses around the late 1650's. They fast became the place for rational debate and civil socialization. The cattle herded cues in starbucks slurping milky 20 oz cups of heart attack fag ash is the conclusion of the cafe where speed is essential and quality is forsaken is the antithesis of this. Keep it up Gwilym. Service is about personality and treating others like people not speed. Good coffee isn't rushed, rushed coffee isn't good. read more

Another cafe in the artisan genre. It's spartan interiors are too minimalistic, to the point of being almost bare. It's got a modern outlook with its coffee and presentation, and the coffee is good. But, there is little else to talk about, about this establishment that might attract coffee consumers. Being a specialist coffee shop, I am not sure why it does not have more blends on offer! It was a bit puzzling, as so-called lesser, more humble coffee shops of British origin can pump up the geek quotient in the coffee department with much more gusto than Prufrock. read more
