Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend working here. Communication from management was one of the biggest issues I encountered. I was told that my position change was temporary, but months later I was informed that the transition I had been expecting was no longer happening. I was never clearly informed of that change and only found out after asking for an update myself. I was also told that I was approved to work an 8:30-4:30 schedule moving forward. This schedule adjustment was discussed due to previous attendance write-ups related to delays with the city bus. My understanding was that this change would help ensure I could consistently arrive on time and avoid any further attendance-related disciplinary action. Then, without warning, I received an email informing me that my employment was being terminated. I was not given a clear explanation for the decision, which left me confused and frustrated. In my experience, there was a lack of transparency and consistent communication regarding decisions that affected my employment. I often felt unclear about expectations and changes to my role. Bark U has a lot of options in a well-placed and organized site. I think it is accurate to say that the owner and the employees are genuinely concerned about keeping their customers' trust. You have a lot of options here for your four-legged fur-child. Also, the staff are doing their best. They are operating under enormous pressure, but they clearly love their charges and handle the daily bursts of stress and activity while keeping the site clean and safe. I have warm memories of the staff. They give their best effort. That said, Bark U might seem reasonably priced ... until it starts finding *any* way to nickel and dime you. My dog never had a problem before or *since* my boarding her here, but suddenly she had behavioral issues within a fortnight of my boarding her at Bark U. Suddenly, she needed $50 baths every few days. Suddenly, I was being charged for anything they could, and it wasn't the decision of the employees - it was policy. BARK U WILL NOT NOTIFY YOU IF YOU NEED TO REFILL YOUR DAYCARE DAYS TO SAVE YOU A FEW DOLLARS. That's totally on you. Compare that approach to other doggy daycare businesses in the area. Bark U will not save you money, and they do not care about your budget. They want your money, and the manager will take it with a huge smile on her face. No one wants to find they are throwing their money away at a daycare that does not see them as anything but a revenue stream. I had to leave, and I definitely don't regret that decision. Last thing: In the course of my two months with Bark U, I found out how poorly this place treats their employees, and it was a huge factor in my decision to not return. It is not my desire to slam individual managers in reviews, but it says a lot about a manager who terminates someone and then has the temerity to reach out to them months later with questions. This actually happened. To that manager, I say: "Shame. On. You." If you care about how employees are treated at a business you patronize, find an alternative to Bark U. You'll likely save yourself money, you'll be using an ethical business that cares about keeping you long term, and you'll see an improvement in the way your dog behaves. Took my 3 dogs to BU for a 5 day stay. My oldest was sent to hospital for an apparent stroke. Had to be euthanized 4 days later. The other 2 dogs developed Kennel cough within 4-5 days after stay. Can't offer advice for any reader, but I know where I'm not boarding my dogs in the future. read more

I am hoping people take this review as a warning and our story creates awareness for all parties involved. If I can help save just one other dog's life, it is worth it. Jalen, an otherwise healthy 2-year-old Weimaraner, almost died after being boarded at BarkU. An aggressive, yet true statement. He contracted Kennel Cough after being boarded that progressed into antibiotic resistant pneumonia with several complications. He was hospitalized in the ICU for 11 days and underwent lifesaving emergency surgery, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, and aggressive antibiotic treatment. His odds of his surviving were very slim but thanks to the very skilled veterinary professionals in charge of his care, he miraculously pulled through, however has a very long road to recovery. He incurred just under $40,000 in vet bills but is here with me today. I am a long-time dog owner and familiar with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (Kennel Cough). Kennel Cough is an umbrella term for about a dozen infectious communicable viruses and bacteria that are known to be commonly found in dog social situations, such as boarding, day care, shelters, and dog parks. Normally, if a dog catches one of these infections, its outcome is nothing more than a common cold, however there are always exceptions to the rules, and Jalen is exhibit A. Degree of infection is dependent upon many factors, including exposure to the source, viral load, dog age, health, etc...The best protection from Kennel Cough is good hygiene and cleaning practices. Although there are vaccines available, they do not protect against every strain of Kennel Cough and it was only after Jalen got sick that I learned that BarkU did not require any Kennel Cough for any of their dogs; illegal, no...unwise, yes. Jalen and his brother, Barkley were up to date on all their vaccines, including Kennel Cough. Jalen and Barkley were exposed to BarkU facilities 3 times...a temperament test and 2 boardings and came home sick each time. Barkley came down with a shallow cough after the temperament test, which I thought was odd since they were only in the facilities for no more than 20 minutes but Jalen was fine, and no serious treatment was needed so I just kind of shrugged it off. After the first boarding, both dogs came home sick. Barkley had a cough which never progressed past that, but Jalen's Kennel Cough was severe. He was prescribed a 2-week treatment of antibiotics. I promptly notified BarkU of the exposure in case they wanted to notify other pet parents or implement extra cleaning. They informed me that it was "Kennel Cough season" and were sorry to hear that he was sick. No other communication was made. Although reluctant, I needed to board Jalen and Barkley 5 weeks later. I figured it was unlikely they would come home sick again and took another chance with BarkU. Upon pickup, Barkley had a shallow cough that never did progress, but Jalen was very ill and was taken to the ER that night. The vet later confirmed that the first bout of Kennel Cough likely never resolved and being exposed and stressed in the same environment so quickly just exacerbated the situation. I called BarkU to inform them that Jalen was fighting for his life on mechanical ventilation after being exposed to an infectious agent in their facility. I was told that my information would be passed on to the manager. To date, I never received any follow-up communication. Communicable diseases are something that a pet owner takes a risk of their dog contracting any time they choose to board, day care, dog park, etc.. However, for the price that BarkU charges ($900 for 5 nights for 2 dogs), I would expect impeccable stringent cleaning and safety procedures to be in place, which clearly was not the case since my dogs came home sick 3 of 3 times. Not requiring Kennel Cough vaccine was also a huge red flag. Ironically, one week to the day that I called to report Jalen's life-threatening illness, I received an email that beginning in October, BarkU is now requiring Bordetella Vaccines for all their clients. Call it coincidence or not, I am happy that they are implementing that policy. Most disappointing though, is the complete lack of empathy and care shown by the management staff. Twice, I notified BarkU that my dogs came home ill with an incredibly contagious illness and they neglected to inform any other owners of a potential exposure. Prior to my boarding, I was not informed of any ongoing issues with Kennel Cough, but reading through some reviews after the fact, people were reporting these instances. I fault the cleaning practices for him getting sick, however also understand that in environments like these, prevention is not always full proof...but communication is. Not informing your clients of a potential Kennel Cough outbreak is taking informed choice of their dog's health out of their hands. I urge you to do better and do right by your clients. read more

I recently boarded my 1 yr old aussipoo while i was hospitalized. They were completely transparent and told me he had issues while there, he wouldn't eat and wasn't playing, they offered free toppings for his meals and gave him extra cuddles, I am hoping with more daycare exposure he does better. I am incredibly frustrated and disheartened with our experience at BARK U. I chose this facility because they claim to provide an environment where "each dog will thrive" and is placed in groups based on "temperament and play style". As the owner of an energetic 20 lb terrier puppy, this specialized approach was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, the reality did not match the marketing. After investing over $1,800, including $665 for 3 initial BARK U training, $45 per day for the 6 half days of daycare, and $875 for a behavioral program they specifically recommended, our puppy was abruptly "dismissed". The reasons cited were typical puppy/ terrier behaviors like posturing, mounting, and nipping that we were working to address. What is most upsetting is the lack of consistency. We were led to believe that as long as we were investing the time and money into their recommended path, BARK U would support his progress. Instead, they took our money, sent us to expensive outside training, and then showed him the door before that training was even completed (he had only finished one of the five behavioral sessions). Upon dismissal, no alternatives like individual play were offered; we were simply told our puppy was "no longer eligible to attend daycare or lodging services". Overall, if you have a puppy that isn't perfect from day one, be wary. Despite their claims of specialized care and onsite behavioral trainers, they seem unwilling to actually work with dogs that require any extra attention or follow-through, even when the owner follows every recommendation provided. read more

My dog had her first day of daycare at BarkU today. She came back exhausted! I received great updates throughout the day, with photos, of all the fun and love she was getting while at BarkU. I am looking forward to sending her in on the Puppy Bus and now feel so much more comfortable with her boarding there for the holidays. She will have a blast. The facilities are clean and the staff is friendly, organized, and obsessed with dogs. Exactly what we were looking for in a new dog daycare/boarding facility. I am BEYOND disappointed in Bark U's customer service. When someone asks for a manager to get back to them, one would expect the manager of the organization to respond in a timely manner- let alone respond at all. That is not the case here. I must note that the office manager is prompt, professional, but left to handle all the communication and as expected, is not in a position to handle questions above their level. We booked a stay for our dog over the holiday time, and 5 days before the stay our plans changed. We immediately canceled the stay. Prior to the stay- we had our consult earlier in the year and was informed all about Bark U, their amenities, trainers, doggy day care, etc...but never that a 7 day cancellation policy was in place (in which they charge you the entire stay's cost and is an extremely long lead time). I find that if you are candid and truly want to present all the great things Bark U has, then you are transparent with cancellation policies and such. I asked to speak to the manager over 5 times... but Corey Wayne will not respond. He has the office manager respond for him. I am currently trying to reach the owner Christine Egbert to state my concerns and the need for a refund. I have been offered a credit- which after all of this I do not want. I want my $335.89 refunded. I do not wish to use your services when your manager is not willing to work with customers. I do not also want to work with an organization that is only concerned about promoting making more money than sharing all aspects of a stay such as cancelling. Be transparent with your clients...also, be reasonable with your policies. You rebooked our stay within minutes due to the wait list you had during the holidays. We also gave you ample time. THEY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST BULLY BREEDS! I was looking for another daycare facility for my dog that has a lot of yard space, supervision, and I won't have to worry about him while he's there. He goes to Dogtopia in Limerick and is fine there, but I just don't like that they're inside most of the day in one room and the outdoor time is very minimal and it's tiny. I scheduled my dog to have a behavior assessment to BarkU in KOP. When the trainer asked if there are situations where my doesn't play well, we stated that he does not do well with intact males or hyperactive small dogs de to his high prey drive. What do they do during his assessment? PUT HIM WITH AN INTACT MALE & SMALL HYPERACTIVE DOGS and then denied him for daycare because he did exactly what I told him he would but still took the $35. I'm super upset that they just completely disregarded what we said to avoid, basically putting him and the other dogs at risk and setting him up for failure. Beware they don't have separate play areas just seemingly 2 and they have intact dogs mixed with fixed dogs and discriminated against my pit mix dog. read more

Bark U is amazing!! Super clean!! Employees are so friendly and informative. I had an awesome experience there is sooo much activity for the dogs. From: ballpits, huge area where the dogs can play with each other and pictures are taken daily and all the dogs lookso happy! This place is new and the owner Christine has been training dogs and doing daycare forever. I'm apprehensive about kennels but I had no guilt. Both my dogs clearly enjoyed themselves! Staff was very friendly, but the service did not meet our expectations. We paid $100 for grooming services for two small dogs. The cut was choppy and both dogs didn't appear to have been bathed. We bathed them on day two and will seek out a new pet grooming provider. read more

We've been taking Maxie here for daycare for about a year now. Not only does Bark U make it super fun for the doggies, but also for their humans! We now have a collection of adorable photos of Maxie from their theme-day parties...Wizard of Oz, "Bark" to school, Halloween and of course, Holiday, and they were kind enough to give US a gift of a mug with a photo of Maxie on it to mark his "alumni" status! We have been sending the boys to Christine since they were puppies . She helped us understand the trouble they were getting into and helped with training. After graduation they loved going so much we transferred them into 2 days a week daycare. I really think they know when they're supposed to get picked up by the van (Puppy bus ) they just stare at the door waiting on Tuesday and Fridays. It makes me happy that their mentally happy, they are socializing with other dogs and getting to run off leash. We also board them with them. The facility is clean (which is a must for me) open and organized. The van (puppy bus) pick up is so convenient. I have no guilt whatsoever leaving them here while we're traveling. We have tried other places before Bark U they really don't compare. read more

I can't speak highly enough about Christine and her staff. Like any pet owner, I was always worried sending my dog away. But with Bark U I am actually excited because I know my dog Don Pepe has the time of his life. When he sees anyone from the Bark U team he literally pees himself with excitement. They are so good about keeping you posted with photos and all communication. It doesn't matter how many clients they have, Bark U makes you feel like family. They used to take care of my dog MooCow and when he passed they wrote us the kindest note. You won't receive that level of care from anywhere else. read more

I am unhappy with my dogs daycare experience and it is a shame because we have had great individual training and grooming sessions. I do not, however, recommend the daycare. I have a younger puppy and it was going to be his first week of daycare. I had specifically voiced that i was nervous about his first days. After the first day i asked the staff how his first day went and one person told me they didn't know and then another just said " he followed me around a little" that was it. I would expect that there would be some kind of debrief after the initial day. Fast forward to our second day of care. When i arrived i was handed the bag of lunch we left in the morning and was told he threw up so they did not feed him. I inquired further as to if it was a lot or why or if he seemed ok after and no one was able to give me an answer it was " oh the person that saw left for the day" I then had paid double so that my dog could participate in "enrichment daycare" which should be a training session. When i inquired about what they worked on no one was able to tell me and i asked if the trainer could call me which i was instructed they would. i did not receive a call from the trainer. I took my dog home and started thinking about how disappointed and worried about my pet i was so i sent an email that i wanted someone in charge to call me because i was concerned my pet was sick. I did receive a call and was told that a bunch of other dogs threw up probably because it was so hot. Also red flag. AND i again inquired about the enrichment and was just told my pet was observing because he was new. I don't understand the lack of communication and information. I also do not like the fact that i had a potential sick pet and multiple dogs threw up and no one felt that was alarming. I do not feel comfortable bringing my pet back here. read more
