Also, Encompass said that if I had more to say I should email them directly. Well, I did that but their email address doesn't work. So they really don't want to hear from anyone. So I am writing more to them on here. The person I wrote about couldn't speak up for himself. No one contacted us to see how much he could understand. So he laid in bed and got bedsores, only ate very little, no one encouraged him to eat and/or drink.  If I would of been contacted, I could of filled your staff in on how this gentleman understood things and it takes him a long time to answer things. He has lived with me for over 6 years and I know him very well. Most of the time, his call button was ignored for at least 45 minutes, a long time when one needs to use the bathroom. We pulled him out against doctor's orders, was told they would not write scripts for Rx, or physical therapists, or nursing care at home, and was told by this facility to do so was a $20,000 mistake, as Medicare would not pay for his stay (1-800-medicare and they confirmed they would, indeed, pay). Personally I would avoid this facility if at all possible.

When I went to the front register he didn't have them, so I went to the back pharmacy counter. The pharmacy desk gave me the deer in headlights, bc she also could not find them. I confirmed name and birthdate. After a few minutes she found both of them. Then I asked to order some Covid tests, since the insurance coverage for them is coming to an end in two weeks. I was told 15 min wait. After about 10min a woman asked me my name and then I heard them saying I don't fill it unless it's yellow from the back. So more waiting I guess, since someone didn't mark me as waiting. Disappointed with this pharmacy because it seems most of the time when I show up in person they have to shuffle through boxes to find my order. I'll order for shipment next time, since they seem to have trouble with in person pick up.

Before my dad was transferred there, I stopped by there without an appointment to check out the facility. I was immediately greeted and welcomed by the friendly staff and given a tour of the facility. The facility was clean and pleasant smelling. The rooms were very nice and spacious, the shared rooms looked as though the residents had plenty of space, and did not look cramped at all. Once my dad arrived, he was put in a very nice private room with a ton of space. All of the office staff, his nurses and nursing assistants, therapists and doctors have all been very sweet, and do such a wonderful job taking care of my dad. The physical, occupational, and speech therapy my dad receives have been top notch. He had been in another facility a couple months back and the therapy he received was the absolute minimum and didn't help him at all. The therapists at Hawthorne truly care about their patients making progress. The speech therapist, Brittany is so sweet and caring. I get to spend more time with her because I am often there when she comes to his room to work with him on his eating. She lets me bring in his favorite banana cream pies and she stores them in the fridge, so she can feed him when working with him on his eating, instead of the usual apple sauce. When I to go to the therapy gym, it is very busy, and all the therapists are working hard with their patients. My dad has already made a lot of progress in just the couple of weeks he has been there, as they really push him. They all make him feel so welcome and always happy to see him. My dad has dementia, so it can be scary leaving him at a new place, knowing he cannot communicate that well. I visit my dad at different times every day, and every time I go, I always find he has been well taken care of. I also enjoy taking my dad outside in his wheelchair so he can feed the ducks at the pond that is located in front of the entrance. If you are looking for a skilled nursing rehab facility for your loved one, I cannot recommend Hawthorne enough.

He fell asleep in five minutes. Apparently they gave him more Dilaudid overnight. When they came in his room in the morning, they could not wake him up. Thank God, they came and checked. They had to call paramedics in order to wake him up and they took him to Oak Hill Hospital. I myself would not go here. I know he will never go there again. He's in a much better nursing home now.
