The staff are very friendly and even said they would be willing to watch my newborn baby if I call ahead. As I walked in I was greeted and taken back to get an application of numbing cream for my treatment, then Dr. Chen did the BBL laser treatment. She explained the procedure to me and told me what to expect. She is very friendly and down to earth. She recommended I come back in one month for another treatment. I have two lumps on my face from injections that I did over two years ago. They are very noticeable and have ruined my face. When she did the first one, and I went back to ask her what was happening with that, she put another lump in my face on the right side of my lip... They were supposed to be filler for my smile lines. Since then, I have been to several aesthetic providers, and they have done great work. My face looks exceptional except now I have 2 random weird looking lumps on my face that were not able to be dissolved by my current aesthetics provider. I don't know what she put in my face, but she ruined it. It's noticeable in pictures and in person. I thought that waiting it out would cause them to dissolve, but apparently they are not dissolvable because I have paid over six hundred dollars trying to get them dissolved. In total, I have spent over twenty thousand dollars.And I look very good except for those two stupid lumps on my face. Disgusting. She apparently does not know what she's doing, because even when I asked her, she said to rub them in toward my smile lines and that they would go away. This is atrocious, stay away. read more

Wow! I am so glad I finally came after finding out about this place such a long time ago! My eye doctor who I've been with for years owns this place and I'm so glad it's located in Kapolei! The first service I got here is the Laser Hair Reduction (LHR). If you look at the price for one procedure it can seem pricey which is why getting the package is best. Also, why do laser hair reduction if you don't plan on getting all the hair to eventually stop growing?! I do look forward to all the hairs to stop growing. I would always choose this LHR over a Brazilian wax ANY day! Lisa and Crystal are the nurses that assisted me and they were awesome! Just really disappointed with the service and the way I was treated. I wasted a ton of money on a laser service. I was hoping to get rid of some of the hair I did not want. I will never return due to your false advertisement. To top it off, I was never seen on my scheduled appointment time. Out of the multiple sessions I paid for, I was only seen on time once and that was my first appointment. I had voiced some concerns about my session however it was explained to me that sometimes your laser service can be done in 10 minutes. Really? For the amount I paid for is not worth 10 minutes! They never open on time and no one is ever at the front desk to check you in on time. Time is valuable and we can't get it back. Please respect that. I recently decided to give Pua Manu Med Spa a try after hearing only positive things from a friend of mine who's been a loyal patron for months. Although only open 3 days out of the week, Pua Manu was very accommodating in taking me in for a last minute signature hydro facial that I booked the same day. The booking process is easy, both online and over the phone, you're able to select from a wide multitude of services that they offer. I was given a tour of the different rooms and facilities they have in the spa after signing my consent forms. They took my pictures to start my client file and I was off to get my facial! Melika was a very professional individual who helped me out in pinpointing the sources of my acne and skin type and asked me questions that made me wonder what steps I'd have to take next to further care for my skin. I struggled a lot with acne in high school but now just have residuals of the scars and pockmarks on my face. She'd been knowledgeable of different remedies to utilize and helped me with suggesting what other services might be worthwhile in their spa to follow up with. She was a very approachable person and made my facial fun and seamless! I definitely noticed a change in my skin after the hydrafacial--it was red (normal for this procedure) and a lot of the blackheads were removed. Warning, long post! Unfortunately, I am left to write this grim review as I have tried to sort it out with Dr. Nancy Chen but have not been able to speak with her personally since first contacting her 3 weeks ago. On 6/15/2020, I visited Pua Manu Med Spa to receive Botox in the masseter muscle to relieve TMJ pain and migraines. I suffer from about 3-5 migraines a month, which gives me extreme light sensitivity, constant pain to the forehead, nausea, that lasts about 2 days each. I have tried natural remedies such as oral magnesium and vitamin B2, then sumatriptan, I even wear a mouthguard to sleep to help with TMJ. Anyone that suffers from debilitating migraines knows what I am talking about. I have gotten Botox injected to the masseter muscle before as it helps to reduce the migraines to 1-2 a month, so it was not my first time receiving it. I had read so many good reviews about Dr. Chen, her office was about 10 mins from my house, and Botox at $12/unit. Everything seemed to sound great and to my surprise, she had an opening the same day I called to make an appointment. Upon arrival, I was greeted by her friendly staff, and quickly noticed how modern and immaculate the office was. I expressed my concerns to Dr. Chen and we both agreed that 20 units in each masseter muscle (40 units total) would be sufficient. Here is where it got a little weird. The masseter muscle, also known as the jaw muscle, is covered by a yellow surgical mask which I was wearing that day. Dr. Chen told me to keep my mask on during the procedure, thus only injecting me on the exposed areas on both sides of my face. I immediately felt sharp paint in front of my ears and jaw, unlike anything I have felt before. I thought to myself, "just tough it out, she knows what she is doing." A few minutes later, the pain had dissipated, and I was able to move my jaw. Dr. Chen explained that this is not a permanent fix for TMJ and proceeded to up-sell me on her electrotherapy treatment at approximately $15 for the pads and $70 per session. Mind you, 40 units of Botox is $480 coming out-of-pocket. Naturally, you would not want to think about spending any more after that. Over the next few days, I was taking Tylenol every 6 hours for a constant dull pain on both sides of my face, particularly in front of the tragus, which hurt to chew and talk. I called my APRN, told her of what had happened and quickly learned that is not the location of the masseter muscle. I was in so much pain, I was desperate. I asked her to correct it with another 15 units on each side and felt immediate relief. I was disappointed that Dr. Chen injected me in the wrong area and perhaps I failed to inform her immediately after the adverse reaction. I contemplated for months whether I should forget about it and move on. However, I realized that this was severe, and I do not want anyone else to suffer from the same thing. I contacted her office on 11/20/2020 and left a message with Lisa, who sounded concerned and told me she would notify Dr. Chen and the Botox company. I received a call back on 11/26/2020, Lisa explained that Dr. Chen said "you did not have an adverse reaction, it sounds like you need more (Botox)" and proceeded to sell me of the electrotherapy sessions, yet again. It is discouraging to have your concerns swept under the rug and covered up with unnecessary additional treatment, so I asked to speak with Dr. Chen myself. I have not received any messages or calls from Pua Manu and decided to follow up on 12/2/2020. Jeanne explained that Dr. Chen will be out for the rest of the year and will leave a message for Lisa. I have not heard back from any of them. It has been 3 weeks since I tried to contact Dr. Chen to have concerns addressed. I simply wanted to report this so that it does not happen again to anyone else. Her actions speak louder than words and I feel as if my concerns are deemed as miniscule and unworthy of her time. Today 12/3/2020, I called Allergan, the Botox pharmaceutical company, to report an adverse reaction and with a heavy heart, decided it was time to leave this review. Behind the bolstering public accolades, "smiles," and seemingly kind mannerisms, is a physician who will turn a blind eye to your concerns and leave you ghosted. Therefore, I caution anyone who decides to see Dr. Chen, a renowned ophthalmologist, founder of Kapolei eye care, for medical issues other than what she specializes in. *UPDATE* December 4, 2020 - The day after leaving this review, I got my first direct response from Dr. Chen via email. She basically said my pain is normal due to bruising from injections to a vascular area and exclaimed that she has been doing this thousands of times with rarely any bruising. Take it for what you will, but I for one, will not be returning for any future services. read more

Thank you so much to Dr.Chen & her staff for taking me last minute for an appt at the very end of the day. These pictures are from me going to a DIFFERENT place for spider vein removal. I was told the higher the setting the less sessions I'd have to buy- so I sat there while that doctor burned my legs terribly :/ it was so awful! I had to cancel my work (I work with kids at the pool & beach) my legs blistered & got infected. I called Dr.Chen a few days after to please see me last minute before the weekend to see if there was anything I could to to prevent scarring. Dr.Chen is very knowledgeable & will tell it to you straight. She advised I get an antibiotic on it right away & said these other gels/ lotions help promote collagen for healing & to prevent scarring. I am really shocked how fast it is working. It's definitely better & I'm so grateful for Dr.Chen to help me! I will only go to Dr.Chen now! Lesson learned that other places say they have 20+ years of experience but then this happened. HydraFacial! Best facial I've ever had. It's not like any other facial where they only use products on your face. For this facial a device was used that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates. PuaManu Medspa has professional & knowledgeable staff. Lisa, Melika, and Jeann makes the patients feel at ease. Today I had the Hyperbaric chamber treatment done. I believe I was the first patient to try it. The staff explained to me what is to be expected inside the chamber. They were knowledgeable and professional. The chamber is clean and at first it looked claustrophobic but once you are inside, it feels just fine. It is kind of warm inside, but they provided a block of Ice to help keep the chamber cool. I recommend wearing cool & comfortable clothing when coming in for this treatment. Also bring ear plugs or muffs to help with the pressure. The pressure is comparable to being on an airplane. Your phone is allowed in the chamber, but is not recommended. Dr.Chen suggest using the time to relax and unwind. I felt refreshed after the one hour treatment. This hyperbaric chamber is suppose to regenerate all cells in the body. I had the treatment done because of my left eye, it did not move toward the left. Now, after the hyperbaric and another medical treatment I have been having done here, it is healing just fine. Now my left eye is able to follow the direction of my finger, and it healed pretty quickly. I would recommend this treatment to my friends and family. read more

I've been going to Pua Manu MedSpa for a few years now and have recommended it to many friends and family members. They have a wide range of services to keep you looking and feeling young! I recently had the MiraDry done to get rid of underarm sweat and couldn't be happier with the results! I never have to use deodorant anymore and I stay dry even after an hour of working out at the gym. The procedure only took an hour and recovery was about a week before I could start working out again. I threw out my deodorant and it was really liberating! For the past 6 months now, I've been getting the Ultimate HydraFacial with Tatyana and my skin has never looked so good and felt so smooth. I've tried so many different products over the years to shrink my pores and get rid of little blemishes that made my skin look bumpy and the HydraFacial has done what all those products combined could not. Pua Manu is clean and people are very friendly. Dr. Chen is great. I have been going to her for about 10 years for my eye/vision appointments. When i started seeing the cosmetic areas she was working with I was very interested as I had botox at another facility. Botox for me was a bit tightening and gave me a headache; the Xiomen Dr. Chen recommended had much better results, more natural looking. But she did recommend many more units than the previous dermatologist I have been to. And with the other Derm the follow up visit was included in the initial units you buy based on Dr recommendation and if at follow up visit you need more units it is free of charge. I stopped going there when Pua Manu opened due to the long drove, but I will likely go back now. This is the type of thing or guarantee Pua Manu should offer. People pay a lot of money and expect results from that money and as I read reviews I see that many people are being guaranteed specific results but aren't getting them. And I can relate. It makes me rethink continuing to give them business, which is kind of sad as I have known Dr. Chen so many years. But no one wants to go anywhere where it seems like money means more than anything. Building a reputation of customer satisfaction and customer care should be priority for any business. Skyntight was also recommended for under my eyes which was very expensive but did nothing to help tighten skin or improve anything under the eyes, this was supposed to be the start of other procedures to improve under eye-bags but With their scheduling availability outside of my work hours and other issues I didn't want to spend any more money as combined with what I paid for Tama treatments I really wasn't seeing results and wasn't willing to spend thousands of dollars on more services and just hope and pray for results. Between the eye clinic and pua manu, I think Dr Chen is spread pretty thin. With that said it is a bit difficult to get in when you are a mon-fri working person. They are open for a few hours Saturday but of course many people would like Saturday so thats hard as well as the scheduling of appointments seems to need a little revamping as well, but again likely due to their volume of business. The services are not cheap and for many of us are out of pocket so when you start on a plan (for me it was skyntight sessions and then possible filler for under-eye bag concerns) I feel like it is important to continue with the plan. When scheduling affects the plan it impacts the results. All in all the people here are extremely nice but no matter how nice if you don't see results, nice doesn't really matter much when you are out of pocket a bunch of money for no changes. Everything in the eye clinic and Pua Manu is EXTREMELY expensive. Glasses, Cremes, eye masks, Omega 3 and any other vitamins. You can get same or better quality outside of their office. The quality of the eye mask for warm compress is extremely poor and became useless about 6 months in, I had to purchase another online at a much cheaper price. I recommend pua manu more for people with a lot of money to use whether you see results or not and with a more flexible weekly schedule as their business hours sort of mirror a normal persons work schedule. Again, Dr Chen is a very nice person and her staff also very nice, but I do think it is all about the money here. I get with any business you need to be profitable but HIGH profitability here seems to supersede customer care, at least that is how it feels and seems especially when you research other Hawaii Med Spas and Dermatologists who are better and more reasonably priced with exceptional reviews and reputations. Just my thoughts, give it a try if you choose but I would recommend doing your research before forking out a lot of money for recommended services:) read more

I really wanted to love Pua Manu. It's clean, the staff is SO friendly, and despite only being open a few days a week, it was fairly easy to get appointments. I also liked that they took CareCredit to help break up the costs of the services. However, I would not be comfortable recommending them to others for hair removal. I initially went to Pua Manu only for laser hair removal for my underarms and bikini area. I was told that for underarms, their new MiraDry laser also removed underarm hair, and that it was roughly the same cost as 6 separate laser hair removal sessions, but would only require one treatment to remove hair. I wasn't really concerned with the not sweating bit, but was willing to try it. In my initial MiraDry session, the machine broke during the first half of my first armpit. In addition to the whole discomfort of the healing process from that round, I had to wait a couple months for a replacement part for the machine to be mailed from the mainland in order to finish up my other one and a half armpit areas. The second time I got the procedure, I don't think I got enough local anesthesia in the arm that the machine previously broke on, because it hurt quite a bit. After the recovery for that second treatment was up, I realized I was still growing some weird patches of underarm hair, so essentially I went through an extremely uncomfortable procedure twice for no reason. I mentioned this and was told I could just get laser hair removal to get the rest off, which brings me to the next point. I got six sessions of laser hair removal and noticed no difference in hair growth. Each time I went in, I'd mention "I haven't really noticed a difference...", then they'd use the same laser settings, and I'd come back in a month and essentially rinse and repeat the same process. So overall I spent thousands of dollars and have nothing to show for it. Maybe some of their other procedures are better, but I don't think I would be willing to risk it. read more

Cool Sculping is/was offered by Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen told me personally that a treatment would reduce my slight belly fat and flank-side fat by 20%. OK. Reasonable. (So I thought) I am not an obese person...my body mass index is about 24. I simply wanted to lose an inch or 2 around the waist area---simple. The procedure hurts.....NOT comfortable. My belly and sides hurt for 2 weeks after the treatment. NO loss of fat. Summary: For me I spent over $2000 for nothing. Painful, and no appreciable fat loss. Total bust...... read more
