My 13 y/o daughter learned about Puahi's when we saw their dance group perform at Mulligan's, she joined the dance school shortly after. After a few months of attending classes and being a part of performances and fun events, my daughter loves it! She has found a home for hula, friends, fun, and culture! The school staff and students and parents are so loving and kind. They offer hula/Tahitian dancing and drumming. The school is perfect for school age children all the way to adults! Our non-profit California Family Life Center had an island-themed dinner/fundraiser event at Pechanga Resort for over 200 attendees. We moved here from Maui in 2018 and the first thing we did was look for a halau to keep our kids in hula and to maintain there Hawaiian heritage. We were skeptical at first because we thought it would be westernized. On the contrary we are the only halau in the Temecula Valley and the surrounding area that perform traditional kahiko hula. Something we care deeply about. Even though our kumu has been dancing for over 20 years, she still has a kumu she learns from on the Big Island. In fact, we all travel back to Hawaii on occasion to train for upcoming competitions. It paid off in 2019, when we performed in our first E Hula Mau Hula Competition. This is a highly sought after and revered Hula competition by invite only. Being the first Hula halau to be invited from the area we put our heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears it and took home two 1st places and 2 second place awards. I have to say we are all truly an ohana and we welcome any and everyone to join. Classes include Hula, Tahitian, and drumming drumming girls and boys from all ages. I was first introduced to Puahi's at their annual luau fundraiser in Menifee. It was not only an amazing show, but really celebrated the Polynesian culture. The performances were amazing and the show was interactive. The drum circle provided a lot of energy. I heard more than one guest say that they felt transported to Hawaii. The luau had some wonderful raffle prizes, food, and decorations. Each year I buy more and more tickets to the fundraiser. We can't wait for next years show. I would absolutely recommend! I have been dancing with Puahi's since 2020 when they offered free Zoom classes during shutdown. I am grateful to have found a school that teaches both hula and Tahitian dance, especially hula kahiko (ancient hula) which many schools do not teach. We have connections from the islands to ensure that we continue learning about the art and culture and that we continue to keep it authentic. I love how much we pursue knowledge in all sorts of facets of the culture and how everyone uses their unique skills to help the group. We joined Puahi's back in 2012 and have been there ever since! My daughter expressed an interest in learning Polynesian dance after her first trip to Hawaii. She fell in love with the islands & it's culture. During our time at this studio we have made so many lasting friendships and have become so close. Not only has my daughter learned great traditional Hula & Tahitian but she has taken classes in fresh flower lei making, ukulele & traditional Hawaiian language. Yes, Temecula is far, but it was worth the weekly drive from Escondido to get my hula on. It's a nice studio, with nice bright lighting, decent amount of floor space, and wall to wall mirrors. Brenda, the proprietor/teacher has more than a decade of experience and is quite breathtaking to watch. She's a very graceful dancer, and a patient teacher. There weren't too many people my age taking the class. Most students in the intermediate level were in high school, and those in the beginner's level were in their early to middle 40's so it kind of made bonding with any student a bit more challenging for me, but the school did encourage a sense of comradeship with their monthly newsletters and involvement in each others lives. It's a good school that teaches a variety of polynesian dancing, from hula to tahitian, samoan to maori. Dancing, and use of implements were practiced as well as an explanation at times of the lyrics and why certain moves were used in the choreography. The school was involved in local festivals, with Disneyland exhibitions, and various competitions. I wish it were closer, and I had a few more people my age in the class with me. read more

If you're looking for a halau with plenty of Aloha spirit and a true sense of 'ohana this is the place for you! Our Kumu, Brenda, is phenomenal! She has a genuine love for the Hawaiian and Tahitian cultures and is always gathering as much knowledge and experience as she can to then pass on to her students. We have tons of fun in class but there is also extreme respect for the dances that we learn. I scheduled a private group lesson for a bachelorette party earlier this month and it was such an enjoyable experience! For about an hour and a half lesson, we each paid $20 which was extremely reasonable considering everything we got (all of us got cute leis made of shells to keep along with flower clips). Brenda thought up of the idea to teach us the Hawaiian Wedding Song and we also got to sample Tahitian dancing. It's definitely a lot more challenging than it looks or perhaps that's just because my coordination isn't so great. ^.^; You can definitely work up a sweat! Almost all of us had zilch prior formal dance training but Brenda is a patient, encouraging teacher and extremely knowledgeable. After the lesson, she performed a dance for us that was captivating and graceful. It was a memorable experience for sure! read more

The halau is just the right size with beautiful decor and adequate mirrors. Our daughter was a dancer for a few years and loved every minute of it! Brenda taught her Hawaiian and Tahitian dance.
