This shop is awesome. Located right in the heart of Hanalei, across from Hanalei Elementary School. This is where all the locals shop, being that they have the cutest suits on the island. They have fits for every type, including girls who are athletic and engage in water sports. While they may be a bit pricey, they are super high quality and will last forever. If you're lucky, you will find one in your size on their sale rack out on the lanai. Oh, and don't forget to check out their beautiful and locally made sunrise shell jewelry! Had bought 2 bikinis from the Honolulu branch of this shop 10 years ago and they are still wearable (and good-looking) today. So had to make a pilgrimage back. As others mention: prices a bit high but if a suit lasts 10 years, totally worth it! Their prints and styles are cute, up to date, and they make a darling little miniskirt coverup in matching fabric. I've been to Kauai many times and I never wandered into this place. I have trouble finding bikinis on the mainland (don't really feel that comfortable in them to be honest), and want something that not only stays up when I'm active (I'm very full bust) but looks great as well. Nothing against Athleta but their suits aren't the most attractive, despite their new line for curvy types. I found 2 bikinis at Pualan'i and I couldn't be more thrilled. Sandy was so helpful and her inventory is really amazing considering the diminutive size of the store. And it's got A/C so trying on suits was a good experience! It's pricey, but just go here. Sandy has got so many different colors and prints (I got an electric blue/ teal bikini, and a purple one), and there's a bikini bottom style to fit every butt. No kidding. And her customer service...I felt like I'd made a friend when we left the store (my husband of course had to have his say and they got on famously while I was trying things on). My dressing room looked a mess when I'd finally found the winners because Sandy kept pulling things for me to try (we were trying to match a bikini top I'd bought elsewhere) but she was so accommodating and sassy! Love this place. The designer is from the Islands so she knows what you need when you're surfing or swimming or whatever. It's not walkable to the village though if it's hot out. It's about a 1/2 mile past the Big Save market on the Right, right where the road closure is. If you're driving through Hanalei village, keep going until you see the orange safety cones, Pualan'i will be on your right side, almost right before you can't drive anymore (unless you're a local and you have that special permit). If you are an active gal, love a quality swimsuit, and want something that really will stay on your body while you're body surfing or swimming or just jumping around in Hawaiian waters, Pualan'iis definitely for you. read more

Have you ever been to a really good boob wrangler at Nordstrom? Well, this is like that. They were GREAT about knowing their inventory, my body (though I was a stranger to them) and directing me toward EXACTLY what I needed. I was in and out of their quickly. Head off the beaten path to THIS place vs. the places downtown and the tourist traps. It's worth the extra steps down the road. Great selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff. They have two locations now so I was a little confused. Down by he school is the Pualani line store and closer in town is the bikini shop that sells pualani and other brands. The shop in town is great. They have a really nice selection of suits and it was my favorite of all the bikini shops in town - and I hit up them all! read more

This is the ONLY place I shop for beach and bikini wear in Kauai! Pualani Hanalei has the best selection of bathing suits on the island (believe me, I've gone to all of them!). Oh my gosh best place to buy a bathing suit!!! I am 51, and in desperate need of guidance. the owner was there and pulled out many options making me feel comfortable to try on suits in my comfort zone and out of my comfort zone ! Bathing suit shopping is never an easy thing for women, regardless of what size you are. My friend and I are on both ends of the size spectrum and went in on a mission to find my friend a passable suit. There's a ton of suit options here so it can be a bit overwhelming. Luckily the salesperson, Brianne, was tremendously helpful in working with us to navigate the maze and boy did she know her stuff. She listened to what my friend was looking for (plus-size option with enough support up top) and came up with several options to try on. When one didn't work, she came up with an alternative that ended up not only being workable, but downright flattering and comfortable. I wasn't looking for a suit, but found several cute xs and xxs options to try and Brianne was super-helpful with that process too. When you're a weird size, it can be frustrating and sometimes humiliating to not finding anything that fits, so this was such a refreshing and positive experience. They have an online store so if you find a style you like, you can get one once you're back home. No matter what size you are, I highly recommend this place for your cute bathing suit needs. read more

I love this bathing suit shop!!! I live in San Diego where we have plenty of bathing suits to choose from year-around but I wait for my annual trip to Kauai to buy a suit from Sandy and her crew. The quality of the suits are excellent and I love how unique the patterns are. The individualized customer service is above and beyond. During my last visit in September Sandy went through her back stock at home to find a suit with a pattern that was a few years old and not in the store anymore. It was my favorite! To top it off I found this new top that was super flattering and Sandy pointed out how well it would go with a suit I bought from her the year before! These ladies know their stuff. Before they opened the newest shop closest to quicksilver me and my cousin usually went to the original one which is right across of the hanalei school. They do have some cute bikini's, but the lady in the original shop (who I'm guessing maybe the owner) sure like to talk a lot! Lol. I love this place!!! The service was amazing, the suits are gorgeous and the options are vast. I wandered in here in a desperate attempt to find a suit since the one I had brought with me was entirely too hot for the weather. I read the reviews here and thought I'd give it a try, I didn't have a lot of hope though - I'm a plus sized curvy woman and that doesn't usually work out well when it come to swimsuits. The staff was immediately helpful and allayed my fears regarding sizing. Although once the saleswomen started pulling things off the rack I again reminded them of my size since the things they were grabbing looked entirely too small. But when she said their product has "4-way stretch" she wasn't joking! I usually wear a size 18-22 and the suit I bought ended up being a Large by their sizing (although other XL products were too small for me, sizing within the brand seems to vary a lot). Based on what I tried on I don't think their product would fit anyone over a size 20 though generally speaking. The pricing on their suits is not cheap expect to pay between $130-$170, but a couple of other shoppers assured me (spontaneously of their own initiative) that they loved their suits and had come back for more and that they lasted years. So far I have to agree, my first suit purchase from them has held up well for the several weeks in Kauai that I've used it and I just bought a second one since they are only located in Hanalei, Honolulu and somewhere in Japan. My second trip in was just as awesome as the first and I feel like the money was very well spent. Thank you Pualani Hanalei!!! read more
