Did you know this is the oldest bar in Sitges? Opened in 1956, it just celebrated its seventieth anniversary. More importantly, did you know it was the first non-gay bar Jamie W and I patronized in Sitges? OK, maybe that factoid was just important to us. What motivated us to come here was their locally famous Pina Colada, which we had read was served in a whole carved-out pineapple. I presumed it would look like Thai-style pineapple fried rice.
We arrived just as it was getting dark. It's a small waterfront bar on Playa de San Sebastián with a distinctively nautical interior and an inviting terrace. The interior had a dated maritime museum vibe, so we were more drawn to the people-watching on the terrace. Of course, I ordered the 13,9€ Pina Colada. Sadly, the pineapple vessel was missing, but otherwise it looked like one of Carmen Miranda's tutti-frutti hats in a ceramic tiki goblet (Photo 8).
Festooned with strawberries, blueberries, plums, and pineapple slices, all dusted with sugar, the cocktail was surprisingly not overly sweet. Jamie kept it simple with the 11,9€ Aperol Spritz which he started to grow fond of in Sitges (Photo 9). With a slight kick, the mix of Aperol, Prosecco, and soda water yielded a refreshing blend of orange and grapefruit flavors. A big group of suits suddenly converged on the bar, so we downed our drinks post haste.
