I hate to even say it but it's not looking good for this area. I remember the good old days where…read moreit was the spot. Shopping, restaurants, bars and so on. A place where you wander the street, pop in and out of stores, stand there and watch the many street performers going on. Those days are long gone. It used to be shops after shops along the three blocks. Busy businesses one after the other. The holiday and weekend were alway packed with people. Also a major destination for holiday makers wanting to see what this place is all about. Now there's nothing but empty vacant spaces. The three blocks that once use to be bustling with people is like somewhat a ghost town. You still have a few scattered shops here and there and some restaurants, but majority is empty. Even with them trying to incorporate alcohol onto the strip to encourage people to shop and visit, it doesn't seem to work. It's still pretty quiet with loads of empty spaces. Some stores have survived but at least 60 to 70 percent have vanished. It's not the same third street promenade I remember. Don't get me wrong, people still come but it's not the same hustling crowd as it once was. They still have the farmers market which I think is still one of the better one. Amazing fresh produce to choose from. You do get loads of the chefs coming for their weekly fresh produce as well as the locals. At least that's still a positive for the area. Besides that, they'll still get holiday makers visiting and walking the blvd. But the experience, won't be the same. Hopefully it'll come through and be the nice spot if once was. One can hope.

There are no rates posted, but as luck would have it an attendant almost came up immediately to my window. Nice girl, accent, European maybe, possibly Russian even, hard to tell, but very friendly and when I asked her what the rate was she confirmed it was $14 for the day. I explained I was just going around the corner to the Flor Store on Broadway for less than an hour, and she said, "Not a problem. She wrote 12:02 on my ticket, and then said, "pay the $14 now, and if you come back within the hour, I'll give you the difference back". And I thought, "wow, thats awesome, sure". So she gave me my change, and i parked and walked out of the garage with a coworker. We were back well within the hour, maybe 30 mins tops, and as we walked back into the garage the same girl was talking to a guy in one of those small white utility trucks. It maybe took us another 2 mins to descend down the rusted flight of stairs to P-3, and drive back up to the gate. Wouldn't you know, she was gone. Her post was completely abandoned and she was nowhere to be found. So I wait a few mins, and then I think well I'm going to back up and repark until she materializes again, and as I started to back up, a black Porsche pulled up behind me, so I had no choice but to leave the garage. It's too coincidental that she was just there only two mins before when we returned, so I'm calling it what it is, extortion. I've still got my ticket, #255778 stamped by "SafetyPark" and I'm going to keep it as a reminder to never park in their lots ever again, and I will be sharing this amongst my large network of friends and coworkers who live and shop in the Santa Monica area. But by all means, keep the change.

A solid place to park when visiting Downtown Santa Monica for a long period of time. Let's face it,…read morefinding street parking is like finding a white buffalo. I never knew about this parking structure until I started working in the area. I typically parked on 4th Street or the surrounding parking lots where the shopping is located; however, that can rack up if you're staying longer than 90 minutes. In this parking structure, you simply get a ticket when you enter and pay $5 as you leave. It's simple as that. There are monthly and pre-paid cards that are cheaper than $5/day. You have to go to the Blue Transit Office on 4th street (about a 5-10 minute walk heading toward the Promenade, right across the street from Benihana). Far as I know, monthly passes are completely sold out and there's a waiting list. The pre-paid card is only $10 to purchase and you can reload in increments of $30, $60, $90. When you use your pre-paid card, it's only $3/day! It's also minutes away from the pier and beach! I think it's only worth parking here if you're gonna be in the area over 6-8hrs or work in the area! The other structures aren't so bad as long as you're mindful of your time. I knocked a star because the elevator is janky AF! My heart races a little every time I get on. Also it can smell funky sometimes too.
