Third Street Promenade is an open-air, car-free mall that is home to more than 80 retailers. It is three blocks long. This mall opened in the 1960s and has been renovated many times since then. This is a nice place to go for a stroll and wander in and out of stores. Up and down the street are topiary sculptures called "The Dinosaurs of Santa Monica". Some of these dinosaur topiaries shoot streams of water from their mouths. At the south end of Third Street Promenade is a enclosed shopping center called Santa Monica Place. I used to visit Third Street Promenade a lot back in my younger days. We would grab a bite to eat and then hit a few stores after a long day at the beach. I was here recently and there was hardly anyone here. The vibe just wasn't the same. The Jacaranda Trees are pretty when they are blooming. I like coming here in the evenings when the lights are on. Some popular stores here at Third Street Promenade are Patagonia, Lululemon, Anthropologie, H&M and Urban Outfitters. On occasional evenings, you can catch live music and street performers. Third Street Promenade has a farmers market every Wednesday and Saturday from 8am to 1pm.

I know it's inevitable that things change overtime, but still, I remember hanging out here in the late 90s-early 2000s and this place was full of life and excitement, with lots of street performers, fabulous stores, and all around great energy. In recent years the promenade is almost like a ghost town. The good news is that the city is trying to bring it back to life and the efforts are slowly working. The transient people and homeless have been cleared out, and there are usually parked police cars at every cross walk creating a sense of safety. Also, the grounds are clean again. The stores are not too impressive, IMO, but there's Anthropologie, ALO, Urban Outfitters, the APPLE store, Sephora, Lululemon, AND the return of Barnes & Noble, something I am super stoked about. There are lots of restaurants, bars, and dessert spots, offering a variety of cuisines from American, Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, and more. One thing that irks me is the promenade does not have a legit coffee shop aside from Starbucks and the Coffee Bean. The promenade is in serious need of a solid coffee shop to appeal to the coffee lovers. Just saying. Street performers are regaining a presence and I kind of like listening to the singing artists belting out cover songs like "Hey There Delilah" and "Ain't No Sunshine". There are life-size board games in various spots as an added attraction, and little swivel chairs, kid friendly but I see adults swirling their hearts out as well. Overall, it's a great place, but it needs visitors, especially during the week. Consider coming through for dinner and an evening stroll. It's very kid and dog friendly in case you're wondering. Great for tourists as well.

This place has gone downhill big time. Gone are the days when it was bustling with people walking up and down the shops and restaurants. Street performers at every corner gathering crowds. Weekend are packed with locals as well as tourist. Regardless when you visit, it was happening. Now, it's like a ghost town. Majority of the shops are vacant with for lease signs on the door. Barely any stores left that's worth checking out. You still have some but majority is gone. Even some of the restaurants have faded away or only open for dinner. It's not the same as it used to be. There's still plenty of parking at one of the many structures nearby. I can only imagine how much longer some of the stores can stay afloat. I did read that they were trying out a new policy where drinks can be allowed on the promenade. Hoping that'll bring back the foot traffic. Not sure if that helped or is even still active. You have John Reed gym which does attract people as it's a nice gym. Also the mall is at the opposite end of the strip. That too isn't much as it used to be. Hopefully they can revamp this place to the splendor it once was.

A very safe pedestrian mall with security patrolling back and forth. We ate at 1212 a trendy restaurant then walked the promenade. They had a shop with Live streaming for TikTok, makeup stores, a shop going out of business. The clock was one hour behind but still made for a nice photo op. Saw a cool Istanbul shop that reminded me of when our tour took us to the Grand Bazaar for a look see. They have huge interactive games and fun top chairs to entertain those who rather chill than shop.

    Pathway lights

A fun outdoor pathway lined with eateries and shops. Cool dinosaur shaped plants and colored lights above you along the entire path. Various sitting areas. Reasonably priced parking structures close by. It felt safe at night.

The once-vibrant, three-block plaza in downtown Santa Monica is unfortunately in decline. Many shops are now empty and available for rent, and the surroundings feel a bit old and dirty, with homeless people often visible. 聖塔莫妮卡市中心橫跨三個街區的特色廣場。可惜有點沒落了,好幾處店鋪閒置待租,環境稍微有點老舊和髒亂,時不時見到流浪漢。

So much fun walking down Promenade Street! This is a family friendly area with so much to offer everyone. The dinosaur trees are a fun place to stop. Those are just so cool and unique! Sometimes you will find street performers, or people playing music. The pop-up tents with vendors selling things are fun to check-out. I even saw vegan tattoos available at one of the pop-ups! How cool! Lots of store to do some shopping! And food options mixed in with all of that. There was a tattoo place also! I saw a couple police cars around that area too. Which is nice for safety reasons. Be warned: there's a very strong smell of weed as you walk down the promenade lol

Tons of random parking structures nearby! Mall culture is dying! People are not shopping in person and hanging out at malls like we used to. It's been years since I made a visit to third street promenade. There were soooo many vacant businesses! The crowd was bare on a Saturday night, which is crazy!!!!

Been going to Third St Promenade for years and this shopping area does not disappoint. Got a cute gold bracelet from a small boutique here and it's just a chill spot to visit when in town. There are tons of restaurants, shopping centers, and live music on the streets. Would definitely come back soon! The people here are nice and you can find some good deals if you look.

It used to be the bomb dot com; however, after losing Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom's- oh, and before that, Supra and many other shops and stores, it has become a lack-luster and mediocre shopping place all in all. it still has an Apple Store and T-Mobile's HQ store (one of them). it has run of the mill shops such as Victoria's Secret, Reformation, Rip Curl, PacSun, and places to eat. There is a great Manga shop that sells Pokemon, Hello Kitty, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, and so much more. There is still so much to do here and around here, including a few really good restaurants and the Pier is seeing distance from the top of the Promenade.

Third Street Promenade is quite a fun shopping experience. There's something for everyone. One stop shopping. Kids will appreciate seeing all the dinosaurs. I enjoy walking around with the family and not worrying about scooters whizzing by you or knocking into you. It wasn't easy finding a bathroom though. You had to go through a building into the parking garage to find a bathroom. It was quite the journey. The Christmas tree was so beautiful. I would definitely come back

Ask the Community - Third Street Promenade

    How much is parking?

I paid 2 dollars for approximately 2 hrs I believe very cheap

Are there street performances in the day time ? Is parking easy?

I have not seen street performances in the am times. There is plenty of Parking.

How is the security at the Promenade Mall after it gets dark ?? I know that there is a lot of crime and homelessness in Santa Monica the last 4 years due to the homelessness…

There aren't any patrols. There is however a kiosk with a CSO. Has authority but isn't a full fledged police officer. It's on the block closest to SM Place. Homeless is still prevalent but seems to have gotten a little better there.

Is the converse store open in Santa Monica?

No. It closed quite awhile back. I don't remember who has the space now.

Are the Christmas lights up yet!?

They have started and it is nice.

I heard it was shut down & empty?

It is alive & busier than ever!

Where is a good place to eat after going to the movies?

On the Pier, of course! 'Pier Burger' is the most popular & most affordable.

What time does the promenade close? On google it says 5:00 pm, but on yelp it says 9:00 pm. I'm confused...

    9:00pm.

    Outdoor music vendors?

    There are many outdoor performers.
