The venue itself is very small and intimate, better for small groups and events than large ones. The menu created by the literary supper club was fantastic and the food itself was something you'd expect from a high end restaurant. The location of Court Tree itself was nice, the atmosphere was great and the type of thing that I can only imagine existing in Brooklyn. I plan on coming back whenever there is an event that piques my interest.

I happened to see a flyer posted for a supper club dinner at Court Tree. Intrigued, I ended up attending and had a wonderful time. The supper club is literary themed, which warms this bookworm's heart. The space is small, pretty much a single floor in a brownstone, but just cozy enough for small events. They have a diverse lineup of food, art, music, and theatre events. I'm definitely planning to check out more events now that I've discovered this place.

The museum kind of blends in with its surroundings - no sizable signs to make it stand out. But it's easy to find! The museum is on the smaller side but upon my visit in July 2025 featured two lovely exhibits that featured a variety of mediums - sculpture, video, painting, photography. There is a nice, clean gender-neutral bathroom. There appeared to be a few books for sale behind the check-in counter, but there is so gift shop. I would stop in again if I had the time, but I don't think this needs to be a necessity stop for someone just visiting NYC on a short trip.

The new Basquiat exhibition 'King Pleasure' is presented by the family of Jean-Michel Basquiat…read moreshowcasing 200+ never seen before works of art. I'm a super fan of Basquiats work so I was head over hills when I heard this exhibition was coming to Chelsea. I had tickets for 1pm and the line was wrapped around the block. They have skip the line tickets but I don't think it's worth the price unless you're in a rush. The line moved quickly and they honored my 1pm ticket time. The exhibition and works of art was curated wonderfully allowing one to delve deep into the life of Basquiat even giving us a glimpse into his art studio, the apartment where he grew up, and countless audio visuals of his family speaking about how legendary he was and continues to be. The only con I had was the souvenir shop which was a bit under stocked, a tad corny, & very expensive. I live for souvenirs & couldn't wait to add to my already existing Basquiat collection but I wasn't impressed. The t-shirt I did want was $75 and living in the times of inflation, I couldn't bring myself to buy it. There wasn't much else to be desired. Forgive me for comparing this exhibition to Van Gogh's Immersive exhibition but they had amazing souvenirs as well as a cafe that was inspired by his works. I left with posters, cookies, an umbrella, pens, a cute tote that was reasonably priced and was able to eat lunch & dessert. Despite me not purchasing any souvenirs :( I still had a great time. I knew a good bit about Basquiat before this exhibit, but now I feel like I know him as a person…read morerather than a phenomenon. This exhibit, curated by his family from their personal collection, is a colorful multi-media feast for the eyes. It not only boasts lesser known or unknown works, but large works that take up entire walls. One of his last paintings, a gift to his father, is also on site. Some of his more overtly political pieces are there. There are recreations of his home living room and dining room, as well as his studio spaces. There are multiple video interviews/testimonies with his family members that share who he really was. What he meant to the people who really knew him. I was touched by the address/note book carried by his father with his goals written in it. I teared up at reading about how his father fought to protect Basquiat's legacy for his entire life. I also love how music and the 80s are woven into this space. There is a very cool "club" setup with TVs playing 80s music and showing candids from his clubbing days. It was the perfect end. I really loved this exhibit, and I'm glad I went. I paid the huge markup fee for the "skip the line," but I got there first (I arrived at 9:45 for a 10 AM time). A line did form behind me. The flow was pretty good and not too crowded. Please make your online reservation beforehand.

The Staten Island Museum is one of the many museums/buildings on the historic Snug Harbor grounds…read more Ive never been to Snug Harbor before and this was one of the first buildings I came upon. Front desk staff was super friendly and informative. The museum itself isn't very big and I Probably took about 30 minutes to view it. Id say the admission although suggested was definitely worth it. For me though Id say the architecture of the building itself both inside and out was more interesting to me than the exhibits themselves. Who knew Staten Island had such a good little museum? I look forward to coming here and again and will check their listings of events often.

I am happy to have their teachings! Besides learning that this area of New York city had a terra-cotta factory & a Bubble Gum Factory. We learn about the businesses that employed the locals and the goods that Americans could enjoy! As well as the after effects of industry , environment and public health. Erasure poetry was clever. I had never heard of it before. Taking the pages of a book written by Robert Richard Randall. He was a shipmaster who was very kind to build buildings to house the sailors who worked their lives on boats and had absolutely no money , no housing and no financial security. So now this building has become a museum. Environmental fiber arts exhibit was pretty appropriate. This artist have woven plastics into amazing sculptures. Fascinating. Sad that recycling efforts are so low. So much non biodegradable mater. We could do better if we get outraged enough to contact officials to make a change. You will learn how they succeeded in the past with women activists that were able to ultimately clean up Fresh Kills area! Beautiful nature now. The staff recommended a stroll. I saw the statue of the founder of this building. Homage to such a kind man. The garden outside was a nice. I really recommend coming here. If I had my ukelele. This place was a delight in many many ways .

I've known about Donald Judd for a few years. I'm originally from Texas and learned about Judd…read morethrough this time in Texas - and have seen some of his art in Marfa. But I'd never visited this NYC site until this past Friday, when I took a tour of his house/studio at 101 Spring Street. So who was Judd? An American artist associated with minimalism (although our tour guide told us that Judd didn't like the term). He bought this property in 1968 and used it for his residence and studio even as he started spending more time in Marfa beginning in the 70s. The tour was fantastic. For about an hour and a half, our tour guide showed us several different levels of the property - the kitchen and dining room, the bedroom floor, another floor which served as a design and studio space, and more. The space is - shock shock - minimalist, but there's incredible art (his and others), furniture (including a dining room table he designed that I loooooooved), and other incredible touches. Our tour guide shared incredible stories about Judd and his family. He was informative, friendly, and funny, and the tour was a delight. If you're interesting in art (especially 20th century art and concepts) or architecture (the property has been renovated but in a way intended to preserve the property as it was during Judd's life and use of it) or are just looking for something to do in the City that is a little bit off the beaten path, definitely check out this tour!

First off, make sure you're in this to appreciate art, artists, and architecture. You're paying 35…read morebucks to climb several flights of stairs in a five story industrial structure in SoHo. And you don't get to take photos beyond the first floor. I didn't mind this, as I learned a lot about Donald Judd. And honestly, he wasn't even the most interesting part of this tour. Our guide, a delightful, knowledgeable woman (I wish I could remember her name--I'm going to start carrying a notebooks around with me)--she not only taught us about Judd, she taught us about art and art theory, and maybe even a little philosophy. This tour isn't for people looking for the flashy or ornamented. Judd's five story SoHo loft is pretty barren, but it's a sight to behold. His furniture isn't cushy or pleasant, but seeing the architecture, thinking about living in such a building--that's pretty extraordinary. Seeing the 12 or greater foot windows--that's something else. Hearing the guide talk about how Judd refused to define his art, how he pushed others to think about how art affected the function of their lives--that's what will stick with me. This is more of an exercise to teach us. Not to wow us or entertain us. And I think that's pretty amazing.

My niece invited us to start her son birthday celebration here for a kid paint and sip. I have been…read moreto their other locations for adult's events and even though I do not hold the talent of painting or drawing I do enjoy a good paint and sip. I was super impressed with the artist/teacher because working with small children is not for the weak and she was teaching a class to 4 to 11 years old. The class was for a monster painting, and she offered two different samples, while still allowing the kids to make their own decisions and be creative. All the kids and adults had a great time. For kids event there is no snacking, which is understandable but the kids can have a drink if they choose to bring one. The teacher also offered free painting that they had left over, and most kids left with one or two cute painting they can add to their room. Overall a great experience and the price was great for families with multiple kids.

The society maintains two landmarked properties: the Officer's Club at Fort Totten Park, where the society is based; and the Lawrence Cemetery, located in a wooded area at the corner of 216th Street and 42nd Avenue. The Officers' Club, also known as "The Castle," boasts a Gothic Revival style. Completed in 1887, the building served as a mess hall and club for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The Lawrence Cemetery was granted to the Lawrence family by Dutch Governor Willem Keift of New Amsterdam in 1645. It is the final resting place of Cornelius Van Wyck Lawrence, mayor of New York City from 1834 to 1837. Inside scoop: Fort Totten Park was an active Army base from 1857 until 1995 and the home to four major Army hospitals since the Civil War. The Fire Department of New York presently controls about one third of the property and the NYC Parks Department controls another third.
