Reserved an "available" outdoor/drive-up unit. Paid. Bought the overpriced mandatory insurance. Bought the mandatory overpriced lock. Paid the mandatory admin fee. After all of that, they assigned me an indoor unit on the 2nd floor. I cancelled immediately. Only the lock was immediately refunded but the storage fee was not for a week and they stole the admin fee. So, for doing nothing other than wasting my time, they had use of my $154 dollar then took $29 not delivering on what they promised. Simply put, this is not a good place to rent and they are not good people to work with. I will be filing a complaint with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs. read more

Do not rent from these people. i rented using a groupon and they steady tried to raise my rates every month. i have had to fight with them monthly and its been a year! i made my last payment 10/11 and they sent me an email today threatening to auction off my contents in my unit and i told her last week when she called that i get paid tomorrow and would make payment. Mind you my payment is due 11/1. I will make payment by 11/16! My rate is supposed top be 61.77 plus $20 late fee if im late, look at the screenshot attached to see what ive been dealing with. If you want to make sure your belongings don't get missing ( stolen) you keep your storage unit locked at all times and don't leave unlocked not even for an hour. If I can give the Public Storage a MINUS 10 I would. I was renting a unit on a monthly basis, I gave notice that I would be moving out on the 30th. It was noted. I went in on 9/30/23 at 9:30am and by 10:00am everything was out of the storage. The storage unit was INFESTED WITH ROACHES. I called customer service, they stated they would close the account and would submit a formal complaint of the roach situation. I then received an email that I had a balance. When I called customer service they could not help me about the balance or roach situation. They transferred me to Steven from the Escalation Dept, he said my lease ended on 09/29/2023 and unfortunately I would have to pay for October 2023, I advised Mr. Steven that I had called several weeks ago and informed them I was moving out on the 30th, I was never advised I would have to leave by the 29th. He did give me an option of 50% off for OCTOBER which I had to pay. Prior to speaking to this element I was advised by 3 other staff members that as long as I vacated by the last day of September, there was no reason I would have to pay for the next month. I was a customer for over 1 year at the Lake Mary, FL location. Totally regret ever using this company for my storage purposes. There was nothing but disappointment from start to finish with this company. Disappointment #1 - Was lured in by the very low rent but just as you're going to get everything signed, they slap on their insurance product and fees that raise the price my at least 25%. Disappointment #2 - When I went to go move out, I did not complete my move out by the 1st of the month. I literally move out ON the 1st. I did not realize this and ended up being charged for a full month (per their policy). Disappointment #3 - Every person I spoke with (only 2) including the site manager were very rude and did not care whether they would win my future business or not. I was only looking for a little bit of empathy and maybe some kind of some lea way with their policy but there was absolutely none. I reached out to their district manager with no response. In my overall dealings with this organization, I assume he would be no different. Conclusion - This organization does not care about its customers whatsoever. I felt I was very polite in regards to my complaint but they were by far, the worst customer service experience I have ever had. My suggestion for anyone having to get storage, go down to the next company. Use a company that has an investment into the local community if possible. Right off the bat, Teresa was amazing, we walked through every option and she was here to save me money. I didn't expect that level of customer service from a place like this. She established rapport very well, great conversation skills. She personally checks all 700+ locks to make sure they don't get swapped, and walked me through several other security features. It's a little to soon for me to leave a review. Based off of first impressions since I moved in yesterday, I'm not really happy with the way the unit looked but that's my fault for wanting something cheaper and smaller. They could have gotten rid of the wasps nest that's in there. Thankfully it was empty and abandoned. Hopefully they don't return. You get what you pay for. I had Life Storage before but they went up in price. At least it was climate controlled and indoors. I may decide to just find another location eventually. A typical experience call Public Storage on Lake Mary Boulevard. I parked my car in front of the office to get a key to unlock the carts. I find that they are closed probably for lunch and would not return for another 20 minutes. So I proceeded to drive my car to the gate where I would have to type in a code for the giant gate to allow my car through. However the gate was stuck in the open position. There is a security breach. Anybody could just drive into the storage buildings there. I drive my car all the way down to the entrance of an indoor climate-controlled building. This sliding door requires you to type in a code before it will open for you. The door is stuck in the wide-open position. Security breach and climate control breach. Any person or animal can just walk in to everybody's storage units. Security is as good as the lock the customer chooses to use. Those are usually easily defeated with a bolt cutter. Since all three carts are independently padlocked with chains, I had to make many trips to and from my car and my storage room. I go back to the office at the time the sign said she would be back from lunch. This time I took the long walk inside the long building to the office. I had to first leave the indoor storage building to walk outside, and then up to the office. The door closes and locks behind me. My only way back is to walk through the gate outside, and walk all the way back. The office is still locked and I am forced to wait another 10 minutes in 95-degree humid outdoors. Three more customers join me in waiting. I tell them how bad the service, security, conditions, attitude, and price is at Public Storage, and how much superior Life Storage in Longwood is. The attendant returned without any apology and we walked into the air-conditioned office. She looked at me and asked "rest room key? I mentioned no and that I needed the key to unlock the carts. I also showed her the sign out sheet that I had put my name on two days ago to get the key the last time. She said don't worry about that and gave me the key. I finally come back, dripping with perspiration, unlock a cart, and reopen my 10' x 5' room. It costs me $99 per month. I was there to transfer my items to Lifestorage at Longwood. A 5-foot by 10-foot room is $75 / month there. After a while of loading boxes onto my finally acquired cart, the lights go out without any warning or reason. They are not on a timer. I walk over to the three switches at different nearby locations. They have all been changed to motion detectors. A while later the lights go back on by themselves. It is always hard to breathe in there since there never seems to be any air circulation and they do not regulate the humidity. A customer called out to me and asked if I had a key for the other carts. They said they made a special trip to the office, only to be told there is only one key for all three cart locks. I walk back down to unlock a cart for them. They agree that the facility is badly managed and in bad condition. However they just purchased a home and would not need storage anymore. I helped the customer finish loading our cars, and proceed to drive back over to the gate which is now closed and locked. Fortunately he entered the code to open the gate and I just followed right behind him. I reparked in front of the office, got out, and walked back into the office. As usual comma the girl in the office was hidden in the corner with her head resting on the desk behind the counter. I then drive my load to Lifestorage on SR 434 in Longwood. The friendly manager who is the epitome of professionalism came over to meet me. She invited me in the office to introduce me to her co-manager of the facility. they gave me a bottle of cold drink. Then they explained how those three people that I had talked to in Lake Mary storage, came over to open up an account with lifestorage. As a result of my recommendation, they credited my account with $25! That is in addition to my 15% discount for the first 3 months! Every aspect of the facility and service of Lifestorage is so much better than any other business I have ever been to! Watch this space for my future review of Lifestorage. We rented a 10 by 10 unit in August 2017 for one price and recently the price was raised 25.00 more. On the first of the month when you are supposed to pay the office is frequently closed. So we have gone to Sanford to pay our bill. We are moving out because it is to expensive and we have reported to the office seeing rat droppings by our indoor climate control unit. Which was left there for 2 weeks or more rats are running around inside. The young lady in the office was not concerned and acted as if she could care less as we both told about it on 2 separate occasions. Worst customer service!!!! I have had problems since the day I got there. I called and asked questions and never got the correct answer. I was told one thing over the phone then when I got there it was something else. The unit was absolutely filthy with black tar/paint all over the floor. I had paid for my rent on my unit. I had went to my unit to retrieve my items and was not able to get them all out. I had left so I could come back the next day to retrieve the rest of my items. ( I still have paid for my unit ) I received an email saying that I had left my unit and moved out which I did not. Then I was called asking if I left a sofa by the dumpster. I was at my unit the entire time so I was never able to do something like that. I told her no and she still charged me. The property manager ( Julie ) should not even be working at a place like this. The absolute worst company I have ever experienced. On May 18, 2021, I rented a storage unit from the Lake Mary location. I used their online portal, it was simple enough to understand and use. The price was the most reasonable in town, which is why I decided to rent from Public Storage. At the beginning, I was charged for 2 separate unit. I thought the confusion would end there. In July, by "some computer glitch" as one agent describe, my payment was returned to my bank (which to this day hasn't appeared). No explanation as to why a payment would be returned, in trying to sort this mess out, my unit was charged a lien fee by the District Manager, Joshua's discretion, and I was sent notices that my items in my unit would be auctioned off. On top of losing the $132 original payment that was returned to someone other than myself, I had to pay $178 to rectify the situation so, I wouldn't lose my and my children's entire life's possession. Finally, trying to put an end to this travesty, I arrive to move out of my unit on July 23rd, only to find a mysterious lock on my unit. I go up to the office where I am greeted by the worst customer service rep, Jennifer, on this planet. Apparently, when I paid the $178 that was detail on the online portal, that wasn't accurate, even after confirming with the Public storage Online agent. At the unit in Lake Mary, Jennifer's mystical system said I still owed a $20 "service fee". But only Jennifer could see this. Not anything we could access showed this fee, and it HAD to be paid in CASH. She refused to let us see what she was charging us to remove the lock without a "court order", as she described. According to her, this was a charge for the lock on my unit, the same lock that was already purchased in May to open the unit, the same lock that has remained on the unit. The sole purpose of renting and needing a unit was because my three children and I were basically fleeing an abusive household, we manage to leave and get ahold of all our possession in order to start a new life. We were living in a hotel since May 2021,waiting for an available apartment. When that day finally arrived, and we saw a light at the end of this horrible road, Public Storage and their personal just added salt to all of our wounds. In trying to salvage some of the money I had lost in this, I contacted the District manager, Joshua, as advised by Jennifer herself. I was asking for simply the reimbursement of the added fee, a total sum of $67. In his final email, it was 2 sentences, and it said to contact the corporate's lawyer. That was his answer to my request to all the proof I had forwarded him. For the month of July, for a unit that cost $102 with taxes and fees, I actually paid $331.98. I would truly stay away from this Company. I hope no-one else has to go through what Public Storage has put my family through, not only during a hardship of rebuilding our lives but also through trying to stay safe myself and my children during Covid. The lady behind the counter was rude , and has no customer service skills, she doesn't seem to like her job at all . We rented the space today only because we needed it now . Then there was a issue about the lock itself they charge 20 plus tax and Home Depot right across the street had the same lock ( which was a master lock ) for 7 dollars cheaper . I was extremely disappointed in the service that was given , and wasn't happy with her poor skills in paperwork skill . The manager Jennifer was helpful and provided us with a place where we could put our pod so that moving the furniture from pod to the storage unit would be quick and easy. Please beware...this is the worst place ever! I have been a customer for over 6 years with 2 storage units here, I originally had rented them when it was my neighborhood storage and when public storage took them over the price just keeps going up! I now pay an extra $200 dollars for the same exact unit that is going for much less for new customers but they will not lower my unit fee at all! I also have found 2 large snake skins in one of my units that I let them know about and showed them the pictures I took and they have done nothing except tell me that it could happen to any storage unit...both my units are inside with climate control so I don't understand how snakes can get in!!! I have called several times about decreasing my payments and they will not lower them at all!!! They also have the worst attitudes, and you can never get them on the phone, if you leave a message you are lucky if they call you back! I will be moving my units out shortly due the the horrible company practices!!! If you need a storage unit in the Lake Mary area please stay away from Public Storage there are many other storage unit companies available in the area, its so sad because I have recommended my neighborhood storage to so many people and now I would not recommend Public Storage to anyone even if it was FREE!!! read more
