This place is ok, when I first got my storage unit apparently the person whom did my paper work rented me a spot and price that wasn't accordingly to the price that the size was. I signed all the paperwork and a week later they told me their employee had made a mistake and I had to move my stuff to a smaller unit. I told them this wasn't my fault and I refused to move all of my belonging to a smaller unit so they allowed me to stay in my unit for a few months in a matter of a few months they increase my rent and kept doing it. After a few years when I started paying my unit it was around $130 to $150 in the beginning and ended up paying $255 a month after being a loyal customer. I eventually couldn't keep up with my payment so I had to get rid of my storage unit. The employees weren't rude they were nice but the increase in storage unit often is the reason why I wouldn't ever get one again. read more

RENTERS BEWARE!!!! We came here on a Saturday to look at different units so we could gage how big of a unit we needed. We rented a 10x7 unit. We paid for the first month already. We came back the next day and the unit had a leak. So obviously we couldn't move our things into the unit, but Angelica and Delilah didn't do anything about it. We asked for another unit, but they didn't have any available of that size so we had to rent a bigger unit (10x13). We asked if the rent could be the same price since the leak was not our fault and they couldn't clean the original unit we had until days (or weeks) later. They denied this request. We bit the bullet and took the bigger unit anyway. 6 months after first renting the unit, they increased the rent by $80!!!!!!!! They claimed they sent us a 30 day notice but we received no such thing!!! If they do this to you, you can request for them not to increase your rent. They were able to keep our rent the same fee for another 3 months. The three months passed and we made the request again. We were denied. So we decided to leave! The only reason we used this location was proximity. Nothing else. The customer service was terrible. Do you need to call the office? Good luck because no one will answer. Did you leave a voicemail? Good luck because no one will return your call. No one is ever at the office. Other customers were complaining as well. You're better off with looking for another storage business. I give the public storage space in Silverlake, the lowest review. Talked to a woman in Customer Service, who was arrogant and rude. She ended up charging me for a unit that I never agreed to rent and clearly told her I do not want to rent a unit from you. I never met her and I never went there in person and they started billing me for the unit. They have yet to resolve the matter after at least 15 phone calls trying to talk to the manager who will not return our phone calls. They are scammers do not use public storage in Silverlake. I have used other locations and they're wonderful but the one in Silverlake is exceptionally corrupt. read more

I love the new set up of the gate area. I've been coming here for MANY years. Though, at first, I didn't understand why they had added the additional gate. But then after a while, I realized how much more secure I felt being inside the gate (even though security was never an issue for me before). Also, I think the pricing for the units are worth it. Some say that it can be expensive but I disagree with that about the units at this place (even with me being on a budget). I say this because now more than ever, there is a high demand for getting a storage space. And whenever there is a high demand of something, the supply will often be competitive in price. I also appreciate how clean this place tends to be. And lastly, the staff who work here are just excellent at their job! Shout out to Dalila for always being so friendly. read more

UNIT WAS BROKEN INTO two months ago! The staff in the office that I've known for almost 8 years were not shocked. I have been in the office before and heard them on the phone speaking with customers about break ins before. Never thought it would happen to my unit as it is inside and far back upstairs. Sure enough they cut the lock and pry open the very easy to open door latch. It's storage it's supposed to be SAFE! I can't believe I didn't move out sooner. Take my nightmare experience; either someone who is renting there is breaking into units and taking what they want and moving it to their own or the staff is someone in on it. Expect to have at least an $80-$100 arbitrary rent increase every 4-6 months! Not sure if that is legal (price gouging) but they seem to push price increases until youve had enough and move out. Then they hook another unsuspecting customer and start the whole racket up again. So sad and abusive. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. FREQUENT BREAK INS. LOW SECURITY. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH FRONT DESK OVER THE PHONE. Police are aware at how common burglary is here. The unoccupied unit next to mine was left unlocked and open. Apparently because of that, someone was then able to break down the dry wall between that unit and mine. They stole thousands of dollars worth of belongings -- more than the max that their insurance is able to give back. The unfortunate part is I was notified about needing to come check my unit AFTER the dry wall had been fixed. I should've been contacted immediately once the damage was discovered. Because of this I was unable to take photos of the damaged wall, and this also made me uneasy about trusting Public Storage. I filed a police report and the cop who was with me said he's been to this location at least 10 times. There are no cameras in the hallways, only where you get off the elevator. He also showed me the other tactics that people use to break into units. There are discrete openings at the top of each unit; people can climb up and peer inside to see if the items closest to the door are worth breaking in for. The day after the initial phone call, I was told that some of my stuff had been discovered in the empty unit next to mine. Why hadn't they noticed that while supposedly fixing the dry wall the day prior? I have received my funds from the insurance, but that still doesn't nearly cover everything that was stolen. read more

Ridiculous service that single-handedly ruins the efficiency and convenience of even having a storage unit in the first place. Especially for the price you have to pay. They put one employee in the office who disappears for long periods of time, making customers wait an excessive amount just to get a cart. And they have like 5 for the whole facility. Don't expect to come in and leave easily. Triple the amount of time you'll need to dedicate to being here during the day simply because of their garbage processes. read more

REGRET. FRUSTRATION. ANGER. ROBBED. These are my experience since day 1. I've had a unit here for years, only because of the hassle of moving from this unit to another location. But today was the last straw. I've been renting a 7x13 unit for 3 years. Twice I've come to my unit to find my lock cut and missing, rats having eaten many of my belongings, puddles flooding, mold from moisture, and so forth. And while the original deal was $125/Mo, the account began increasing to $188/mo, and they aren't clear when it they increase. Today my gf opened up an 8x15 unit. After paying and getting locked in, we measured and came to find it was actually a 7x14 unit. (See the photo of our 8x4 plywood's, unable to lay sideways where it should be 8' wise.) We talked to Filipe the district manager to see our options. He was firm on charging us for an 8x15, not giving us the rate for a 7x13. When asked the logic, he said "the sizes are approximate". Meaning they can charge us prices of an 8x15, when it's really much smaller square footage. He isn't much for math, as we informed him we'd be moving both units out and taking business elsewhere, if he wasn't willing to at least meet us half way. He wouldn't budge. (See the "we care / 100% satisfaction" poster that's a lie.) They lost $376/mo, likely for years to come, instead of offering a $25/mo price break. Blows my mind. Anyways, nothing but frustration, and finally relieved to make the move elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and keep looking. read more

I don't think the rates are that bad, if you comparison shop, but the service you get is pretty poor. They only have one person in the entire building, and they make you give them a driver's license to get a dolly. So today I was trapped for 20 minutes while the single employee on site was cleaning, waiting for her to return to the office so I could get my driver's license back and leave. (No one answered a phone during this time, either.) Imagine being trapped in literally any other place of business under these circumstances. Ridiculous. read more

They think they're renting u a penthouse over here. They raised my rent after less then 6 months being there.!!! Not sure if that's even legal. Now it's over 200$ and that's only a start. For a little space! They didn't offer free month when u move in. They have so many fees your head starts spinning. They charge u a 32$ late fee but not sure on what day. Sometimes I would pay on the 14th but no late fee sometimes I would check on the 10th and late fee would be applied. It's like they do whatever they feel like. I am very disappointed and gonna be moving my stuff next month. I would rather give my money to some other place then here. Stay away! read more

In the late 1980s, I moved and had to rent a storage unit for what wouldn't fit into my new home. I used a Public Storage unit in El Segundo and they were great. Very secure. Had to provide photo ID in order to rent the unit. Now someone has used my name and mailing address to rent a unit at this place, apparently without having to provide any proof of their identity. They sent the overdue bill to collections. I called their office and they verified on the phone that I wasn't the one who rented the unit. I am still getting collection calls. I called their corporate office and they still haven't returned my calls. Don't go anywhere near this place. read more

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!! PROPERTY STOLEN! I rarely write reviews anymore, but this needed to be done. Girlfriend and I kept a storage unit here from early summer 2018 and it was broken into November 2018. We bought our own lock -- thieves didn't even have to break it. The units are so flimsy, all that is needed is to pry the door frame from the drywall and they open. Thieves went through our belongings and apparently took their time, as they even left their cup of water they were drinking. Security cameras didn't capture any thing, are placed at poor locations, and extremely old -- I'm amazed they can see anything on them. There are easy getaways out of view for burglars to escape. Security is lax, staff is apathetic and could possibly be in on these burglaries. Took a police report, but there was notion much that could be done. BOTTOM LINE -- DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING VALUABLE HERE. Check out Thriftee Storage across the street. I went to rent a UHaul there was and amazed at the security alone -- up to date, high resolution cameras, where units are *in view*, one point of entry that is highly visible to staff, and a highly attentive staff. read more

Complete scam. Truly the worst experience I have ever had with a business. They gave us a faulty lock that would not open, then ask us to pay for a locksmith to cut it off. I am 9 months pregnant and we had hired movers to move our things that day - they loaded up the car and we're unable to actually access the unit, wasting hundreds of dollars. NOT SECURE AT ALL! My unit was broken into without tampering or cutting the lock. Theives were easily able to pry the metal plate that the bolt goes into and open the door, emptying my unit of over $32,000 worth of equipment. This was my entire job, my entire life, and now I am financially and emotionally devastated. Their doors are in NO way secure, and I could tell that the employees were aware of the problem but showed no concern. When I pointed out that hardware on nearby units looked as though they may have been damaged as well, they gave a sheepish look and said that they wouldn't contact the owners. I am in and out of my unit fairly often, so I discovered the theft within 9 days or so, but owners of neighboring units may have no idea that their doors are easily forced or that they may have already been robbed. At multiple points I overheard the employees talking and what they said gave some indication that this has happened before and possibly at multiple facilities. I cannot fathom how Public Storage could have a break in at their facility and not see fit to contact customers and notify them that they may be at risk. It gives one the impression that it may be a regular occurance at their facilities and even likely be an inside job. This facility is a prime example of negligence. While filing a police report I was told that there were only two surveillance cameras that operated, one at each gate. This, despite multiple visible cameras in the parking lot and pointing toward the buildings' entryways. Those are apparently fake or are broken, the employees would not say which. In the office they have this whole presentation of a tv and equipment and a sign that says "Monitoring In Progress." The security video split screen shows that there clearly are more than two cameras but all but three feeds were garbled messes and the rest of the feeds were blank blue screens. The three operational feeds cover the office, one of the two gates, and a random wall of storage room doors. When I asked about the video feeds the employees just repeated that "the cameras are only at the gates." The employees first told me that they would not provide any information regarding gate code records, even to the police. This was later corrected by a PS district manager who said that they would cooperate with a police investigation. There was no manager on site, and when I asked to speak with one I was first told that the employees couldn't get in touch with them, then after I had finished filing the police report I was finally handed a phone number for a manager for another facility. She did not answer, nor did she respond to my voicemails. I told the employees that I was not leaving the facility or moving my items until I had spoken to a manager. They then found another number for a district manager who answered my voicemail within 10 minutes. He assured me that they would let me move to another room and cooperate with any police investigation. When I told him that other units near me may have been broken into as well he exhibited some level of concern, but I didn't get the feeling or indication that they intended to notify other customers. They allowed me let me move what worthless belongings I had left to another equally-nonsecure room (I would have preferred to remove them from the premise but I was unable to do so in at such short notice). They proudly announced that they were giving me the deal of a larger unit at my previous price. However they made me resign all the paperwork & contracts. Wait, what?!? When I told them that I had no itention of continuing to store my stuff with them they informed me that I would be charged January's rent unless I move my stuff out the very next morning, which is Sunday, which is New Years Eve. I was shocked. Your customer just had their unit broken into, their belongings stolen, all because your facility has subpar construction and hardware and incompetent security and zero oversite, and you are going to threaten to charge them if they aren't able to scramble move their gear to another location on a Sunday/holiday??? Wow. Just, wow. DO NOT STORE YOUR STUFF HERE, or at any other Public Storage facility. read more

Sadly, recent events have forced me to reverse my earlier 5-star rating. I had no idea what I was signing up for. If you own anything that you think is worth storing somewhere for $160/month... don't store it here. Security is a joke. These units are flimsy... easily pried open & re-closed with a crowbar, as I just discovered. I'm here at the facility, looking at obvious marks of forced entry on my unit's door (scratches/dents & bent hardware/frame) and I'm missing over $1000 worth of music equipment. For what I've spent to store my belongings here for a year, I could have just bought everything again brand-new... and it wouldn't be sitting in some pawn shop right now. My boyfriend and I felt bad telling the employee, and she seemed shocked.. but after looking at the reviews it seems pretty common. My instruments, paintings, vinyl (pretty much my life) were stored for 11 months and the experience could not have been more pleasurable! The thieves stole $4,000 worth of property and now "Orange Door Insurance" is trying to nickel and dime me. The employees who run the counter are nice and helpful, but I am still very suspicious of the operation. Is it an inside job? Who knows. There are zero cameras in the building and they force you to take insurance and turns out to be not very legitimate. The manager won't return my calls. I will be taking legal action. My guess is it was the manager Delilah as she would consistently dismiss complaints of theft and discouraged any attempt to involve the police. You can't miss her. She's shaped like a beach ball and speaks with a thick accent. My advice, go anywhere else. But if you must store your things here, bring your own disc lock. DO NOT trust your things with a lock purchased from them. I strongly suspect she has copies of the keys to all the locks they sell in the office. I have been using Public Storage for almost 18 months now and my only complaint is the bait and switch for the rates. Every once in a while, you simply get a postcard stating that your monthly rate has been increased. In less than 18 months the fee on my storage unit has gone up 40%!!!!!! The rate seemed reasonable when I first got the unit but now is getting way out of control. The issue is that I need to rent a truck and then haul everything out again. The arbitrary raising of the rent is incredibly frustrating and with the next raise happening September 1st. (I just got the postcard letting me know.) I will be moving my business elsewhere. My warning to anyone thinking about renting here...know that the rate you are quoted can and will QUICKLY increase and continue to increase at a rapid rate. They know that it is a huge pain to move everything out, so they know they can get away with it. UPDATE. Just lowered this facility to 1 star. I just got an email that my past due amount is being charged an additional $20. Which seemed odd, since I put my credit card in to have it automatically charged. I called the number of the email and was told that they have no card information on file. Odd. I asked if I could pay over the phone now and they said no because of "security reasons". She did say I could call an 800 number and be charged an additional $10 to pay. REALLY CONVENIENT way to run your business. I am cleaning out my storage unit ASAP and finding a more responsible and business with better customer service. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. No customer service. High prices. read more

Chub M. has got it right. Not much has changed since Chub M.'s 2011 first review. Real snakes in the grass. Customer Service? Yeah right. These employees are trained to lead you in circles with their scripted lines of feigning responsibility and leaving out crucial details. Look around and you'll quickly find previous employees that admit to Public Storage's scams with their "$1 deal" and hidden bloated charges ("proper locks," heh). No different here. Public Storage's system of refunds are near non-existent, and hoops are an understatement. Flaming hoops maybe, because you'll be burning with the attitude you receive from them. Expect a minimum of 5 calls back and forth on average. No wonder their customer service is so bad, these people have to operate knowing they're scamming their customers. Make sure to have an icepack ready for the oncoming headache you'll have from them if you're unfortunate enough to have to use their services. tldr; Operational Hours suck, building location sucks (it's on the slant of a hill, get ready for a balancing act when moving things from and to your vehicle), lack of customer service(Have fun with their "Customer Support" line), and prepare to be ripped off. Don't bother to make sequential deposits, you'll have a hard time getting it back if anything happens. read more

I'm updating this review, because: 1) Michael quit recently, after having worked for this company for over a decade. He was supposed to earn a bonus of $3,000 for 2014, but they cheated him and only gave him $1,000. (And he was one of their top people, always getting empty units filled.) When he complained up the ladder, they wouldn't budge. He then said he's quitting if they don't give him what he legitimately earned. They didn't believe him and didn't give him his full bonus, so he in fact quit. Good for him; 2) I've known Michael and his partner for many years now. When they ran the facility on San Fernando Road in Glendale, they would privately tell me how bad employees of Public Storage were treated. But I liked Michael and his partner, and that's ultimately why I stayed at Public Storage for 3+ years, despite corporate raising my rent significantly each year; 3) I finally vacated my unit Public Storage a few months ago, because after 3 years, my rent had gone up 50% in that time from the initial rent, and I was approaching my 4th birthday -- and another rent increase. I spoke to the corporate offices, letting them know I'd have to leave if they couldn't do something. I also spoke to the district manager. Everyone said "No, can't do anything about your rent." So I said goodbye and moved out. I now have a storage unit closer to where I live, AND I'm paying 50% LESS than what I was paying at Public Storage. Screw Public Storage. They're a greedy, self-serving company, who treats their customers with indifference, and their employees with disdain. Good riddance of storing stuff at this place!! read more

BUILDING IS LEAKING. Do not leave your items here and if you do get insurance. The staff let my belongings sit in water for 3 weeks without calling me to tell me there was water in the unit. I got one call, called back and nothing. I came to retrieve something to find 3 weeks of water and mold on my stuff. Rust already building up On some metal furniture. Staff came up with a broom! Hahaha. The manager is impossible to reach. They have an intricate call Routing system so you can never actually reach him and he calls from a masked number every time. They wouldn't help me in any way. I was responsible for Hiring help to wade through the damage. They would not even help move items to another space! Nightmare. Dirt sand water mold.
