Stopped in for a quick trip and decided to pickup a hot bar meal. The meal was below par as the rotisserie chicken was ok, beans good, but the Gouda Mac and cheese was horrible. I ate at the outside picnic bench covered with umbrella. The service was excellent by the two people who assisted. Restrooms were relatively clean and parking readily available. I even stayed parked there with permission and walked to take care of business without issue. Having the guard there was a nice addition. read more

My friends and I went to Publix today, before a watch party. It was NOT busy, and it still took at least 30 minutes. Mind you we have places to be. They only had one guy on sub duty, however it took more than 10 minutes to complete the lady's sub ahead of me. The worker attempted to get help from his coworkers, and was rejected. Once, there was new hands on deck, the worker proceeded to throw the toppings on the subs without care. For reference, my friend received a sub with tomatoes all on top of each other and not spread it. Now who wants a bite of full tomatoes. Not me. Overall, this was not a good nor satisfying experience. Would not recommend to a friend, only if made aware of changes. read more

Went to this Publix recently during lunch to pick up a pub sub. I don't have a lot of time to get things like this, so I was hoping for a grab-and-go. No such luck. There was a space in one of their coolers for the pre-made pub subs, but all of them were gone. ALL OF THEM. Instead there was a nice long line at the deli counter of people getting subs, a line that was simply too long for me to deal with. I had a couple of other things on my list to grab, but this Publix failed me even more by not having them. It is possibly one of the most oddly stocked grocery stores I have been in, which is really sad since this store is one of the very few stores that provides for the East side of town. read more

This Publix isn't a nice as the others. Today I went to the deli. It's always a cluster when I go to the deli. It's poorly designed where people wait in line right next to the drink machine. It's hard to get over there with the crowds. I asked for Swiss cheese. The deli worker didn't ask me how I want it sliced. She took the liberty to slice it quite thick. I told her that it's too thick. She just stared at me. I then said, "I need this to be cut thinner". She didn't say anything but went to do it. Can you believe she still didn't ask me if the thickness was okay prior to slicing another 3/4 of a pound. . Then I ask for a half a pound of lunch meat. She didn't ask how I wanted it sliced. So, I told her to please slice it thinner than the cheese. She then cuts a whole pound. Here we go again. I had to tell her that I asked for 1/2 a pound. I don't know what her issue was. I wanted tell a manager that this girl needs to ask the customer first before slicing it. I didn't end up telling because I didn't want her to get into trouble. This was annoying enough that I think I'll go to a different Publix next time. The lady working in the seafood department was awesome. read more

As a Floridian I love Publix. While I may stray to Lucky's or Trader Joes on the occasional trip. (Especially for Lucky's amazing gummy bears) Publix is my one true love. I wouldn't even consider schools outside of areas where Publix has stores. The Main Street Publix is not my favorite Publix but even Publix at its worst is better than anything else. Five (5) stars for the home delivery service! Homebound due to an injury, I ordered online (so easy), paid online (so easy) & had my groceries delivered to my door within the hour! WOW! Delivery can be scheduled for 2-hr windows beginning at noon. I received texts throughout, even a text that provided a link so I could see where I was refunded for an out-of-stock prepared food item. (I was also texted & asked if I wanted a substitution.) When ordering, you can leave delivery instructions as well as indicate what you want on your deli sub. And you can even add a tip to your order after your groceries are delivered. Just an AMAZING service for those who are elderly, injured, or just plain too busy to get to the store to shop. Thank you, Amanda J, for the quick delivery! This grocery service is definitely a plus for the area! Note: there's a 10% charge & a delivery charge; my delivery charge was under $6 because I live nearby. It's nearby to where I live, so I go there a lot. Like a few of the employees, the store itself seems to have some issues at times. But overall it's okay. If I want an overall better shopping experience in a nicer/bigger store (more in tune with the "Where shopping is a pleasure" slogan), I can drive a few extra minutes to the Publix on NW 13th Street by 39th Avenue. This is the only Publix to close early on Sundays, at 9 instead of 10. I do like most of the employees. It's probably the only Publix where you'll frequently be accosted by vagrants in the parking lot. Just tonight, someone resembling a fat bespectacled Richard Simmons in a dirty white t-shirt could barely contain himself as I got out of my car. "I have things for sale!", he exclaimed, shaking some tattered and torn papers at me. It was almost closing time, and I used that as an excuse to run away from him. read more

This is the Publix closest to me, and the one I've been frequenting for the past 4 or so years. Its one of the smaller stores, so it lacks some of the more gourmet choices, and has a limited fresh seafood department. On the plus side, its easy to get in and out of, the produce department generally has all that I want or need, and they have gotten most of the Greenwise products on the shelves. The size of the store means constant epic restocking efforts - they do seem to run out of the Greenwise organic milk more often than they should. Bakery Dept similarly has a smaller selection of artisan breads than I'd like, but I love that they will cut and sell you half a loaf of anything. Produce will also break up packages and so will the meat dept - all you have to do is ask, and you get exactly what you need/want. Plus, there is one really nice lady in the deli meats department who always does a great job. I'd rate it higher if it had the full Publix selections like I'm used to in Tampa, but its a nice little store. read more

What can't be found at Ward's is almost always available here. I love that they carry more Latin food now, especially the guava & cream cheese pastries. I like that they break packages for you with no grumpy attitudes. This Publix has a nice mix of veggie/healthy and regular fare. The set-up for shopping is pretty good, too. I don't like the way they spray their veggies with water every 10 minutes or so, but that really seems to be a national trend. And I buy all my veggies from Ward's anyway so I don't know that it matters. I wish they would carry cherry syrup, though. I have to make a special trip out to Westgate Publix every now and again for that pantry staple and it's sort of annoying. But my favorite thing about hipster Publix is the parking lot kitties. They have happily returned now that they are building some cheerleading complex (really, that's what I heard) across the street on their favorite formerly vacant lot. Seeing them always makes me smile. read more

It's dirtier than the other Publixs. Additionally, they never have like any bread up to 3 hours before they close and it's REALLY annoying as a night shift worker. Their employees in the deli were freaking impossible to work with like two visits ago because they were arguing with each other. Then one girl decided she wasn't in the mood to make subs, so another had to help me. Management really needs to check out this deli. This store does not offer Publix-like experiences, which is a shame. I won't be going back to that one anytime soon. read more

I visited this Publix as I was in the area and my experience was, unfortunately, not like my usual Publix interactions. I went straight to the deli on my lunch break and there were two people in front of me. What they did do right was they were quick to serve them. The deli manager even came on to quicken the wait. When it was my turn, I walked up to the counter and told the woman my order. It seems she couldn't hear me or wasn't paying attention as I repeated it to her multiple times. My pub sub was a solid 7/10. There was definitely too much mustard on it. What really ruined it for me was the bread they put it on. I have never had such terrible bread. I didn't realize it until it was time to eat it but the bread fell apart. That isn't what I am used to. Even their competitors could keep their bread intact. It was clearly overcooked as the top of it was all cracked and kept on flaking off while I ate it. I ended up eating the bread on the side as all the insides inevitably fell out from in between the disintegrating bread. I am clearly a bread connoisseur so I finished my sub unimpressed. If they saw the bread wasn't up to par I am just confused as to why it was served to me. All in all, the service was good and the quality of their product was ok. read more

Main St Publix-aka the People's Publix. This is without a doubt the worst Publix in Gainesville, if not North Florida. Shopping is not a pleasure here, with surly and incompetent deli staff that would not be out of place at a Food Lion in Starke or a halfway house employment fair. It's also the only Publix in town that regularly staffs a police officer by the front door. It's has a high ratio of shoppers in wall-e carts that make navigating the aisles a treacherous endeavor. The parking lot is a clustertuck. Gainesville now has so many more options for groceries that there is really no good reason to shop here. read more

Life long Publix customer, since I was 4 years old. I shop at the Alachua store, and have always found the staff kind, polite and ready to help. Products and produce are quality I love the great selection available. The Deli personnel do a great job trying to cut the exact thickness and amount of meats and cheeses ordered and Boars Head has long been a favorite of my family. I absolutely love the seafood department as well, and my favorite employee there even knows that I prefer ONLY wild caught fish. She goes out of her way to make sure she shows me the best wild caught fish available. My husband loves the sushi as well and has it for lunch quite often. What can I say, we shop at this store at least every other day to get the freshest produce available. These are great people and a fantastic store and I appreciate that we finally got a Publix that I could shop at frequently. Thanks for coming to Alachua!! read more

I routinely shop at Publix and typically find it consistent and for the most part not a bad experience but after coming to this location several times I've got to say it is by far the worst Publix I have ever been too. The deli in particular is slow, not responsive to waiting customers and are always running out of hot items such as chicken and wings. Staff not that friendly and selection is limited compared to other stores of same size. Not pleased and will only use as last resort. read more

I've NEVER had anything but wonderful customer service here. I usually get a sub on lunch, I use the online ordering feature and my food is always correct and ready on time. RECENTLY, Walmart has stopped accepting cards that must be typed in. I called Publix to see if they could accept the card and said cheerfully, "Yes we can type it in". He sounded so sincere. I'm embarrassed to use an EBT card to begin with but to hold up a line waiting for your transaction to be voided because you don't have the cash to pay for your groceries is embarrassing :( Thank you so much for understanding. Such wonderful staff you have here. For the Negative Nancy's- I have called to request a card 3 times and was placed on an extended hold each time which took my ENTIRE lunch break. It's not like I haven't tried to replace the card. Also, I work full-time so don't make assumptions. I get a whole $80/mo for assistance in buying food for me and my two children. read more

My gosh. Waited about 50 minutes for a sub. Ruth and Nikki were helping one customer for 20 minutes straight. And when we finally get seen, we got Ruth who took another 25+ min to make two subs, and Nikki serving one person slow motion, meanwhile the oriental lady(didn't see badge) was working at a fast pace and served like 5 people while we were waiting on ours. Absolutely infuriating, never waited this long for a sub. Please talk to these two employees about learning to HURRY UP when there's a line of customers. At approximately 2:30 pm, September 6, 2012, I entered the Publix store on Main St. in Gainesville, FL to pick up a few items. I gathered my items and went to the 10 and under register to check-out. The person in front of me (a white female, approximate age 35-43, fake nails, big braided hair do, clean clothes, carrying a purse and a plastic drinking cup) put her purchase on the check out surface -- ONE GRAPE. Yes, that is correct ONE GRAPE. The cashier asked if that was all, she replied yes. The cashier then weighted the GRAPE and told the women the cost was $.02 (TWO CENTS), the women then pulled out her Food Stamp EBT card and swiped it through the credit card machine, requesting $24.00 in cash back. The cashier asked if she wanted the GRAPE, the woman replied no and the GRAPE was put in the garbage can. The register recorded the sale as .02, cash back $24.00. The cashier then asked if two fives would be okay because was out of tens, the woman agreed and took the $24.00 folded it up and put it in her pocket and left the store. As the next person in line I asked the cashier as a tax payer what in the hell just happened here she said she was on the clock and could not comment. I then asked if I had actually seen this person purchase and discard a GRAPE, then get cash back on her Food Stamp EBT card. The cashier responded that it happens all day every day in their store. She also said that if the person buying the GRAPE has it ring up over .02 they get mad and make her reweigh it. My next comment was to ask the cashier, as one tax payer to another, if she planned to vote in November and she said she could hardly wait for 11/6/12 to get here. I paid for my groceries, in cash, and left the store madder than 10 wet hens. read more
