I always feel silly rating a grocery store, but I will do it because I like this one. Coming from SC we had a ton of pulixes (Publii?) and I never had a bad experience. This one has really stepped up their game as well. With the under store parking for when the weather is bad and the sub station directly when you walk in, all I can say is, well done, well done. There is also an in-store starbucks in the atrium upstairs which is nice because there is a seating area. Theoretically you could come for a cup and coffee and never even go into the store. They have a well stocked selection of meats and produce and the butchers are glad to cut you anything special you want. Publix in general will also stock the shelves with something that you want if you ask them (kind of a few items). The people are always nice. The lines can get long at rush hour during checkout but thats ok as the self serve and the few items lines tend to move. read more

When Publix first came to Winston about a year ago I was pretty excited. I had shopped at them when visiting Florida and honestly wasn't overly impressed, but figured with one in town I could figure out what everyone was raving about. Not to mention, worst case, it's another grocery store to add more competition which is always a plus. What do I like about Publix? Well, the parking garage is nice when it is raining. You do not have to worry about trying to carry around an umbrella or putting your groceries into your car while it is pouring down rain. Also, there are always plenty of parking spaces in the garage as it seems not to get very crowded, especially after work when I cannot even find parking spaces around the corner at Harris Teeter. The downfall of the parking garage, is the terrible set up of parking underneath or outside, and either riding the elevator or taking the stairs just to get into the grocery store. The only way I can explain how the store is set up is almost like an Ikea, where everyone gets funneled in to the start area and then around to the store. There is certainly no running in to grab a single item when you are in a hurry. Unfortunately, you're also going to pay for that luxury of staying dry. They have two shopping carts at the entrance, displaying how they are cheaper than local competitors, but at least for the items I buy, they are significantly higher than the comparably grocery stores in the area. I will admit, they do have a pretty good selection of brands of most items, say for example.... olives, ketchup, oatmeal. They may have 4-5 different brands to chose from where the other grocery stores may only have 2-3 options. I wish they did a little better job of stocking local products and especially more local fresh produce, however. With all that said, I would probably have given 3 stars except for the last couple times I have gone in to shop. The produce section was absolutely pitiful. At around 5:30-6 on a weekday, half of the produce areas were completely unstacked.... I needed some green bell peppers, nothing fancy, just plain bell peppers. Zero. There was a large basket for them, but it was empty. I asked an employee and she showed me that they had the much more expensive organic green bell peppers. Next, I went to find some red onions. Not a single one in the large section where they should be, just the price sign. Next isle to find some grapes, 2-3 bags of old looking grapes. I eventually just left and drove next door where I could find what I wanted and save a little money. I am hoping this was just a temporary thing and if I return this won't be the case, but these are normal things that should be in stock in a grocery store. I just do not see what is so great about Publix.... I think the store looks nice and modern from the outside, but on the inside, its nothing more than a standard grocery store with a poor layout. I will probably continue to go if it is raining and I need to stop to buy a few items for a meal on the way home from work, but I don't see any reason to do standard grocery shopping at Publix. read more

I really wish I could see the hype about this place and love it like everyone else but I just don't get it. I don't think their prices are better than anyone else's and there isn't anything in there I can't get at a closer grocery store. I do enjoy all the made to order food options but I am not going to go there on my own to grab something. If they ever have crawfish again I will stop in just for that since that may be the only thing there I haven't seen in other store. My favorite grocery store. Great produce, wine selection, grocery selection and staff. Comes complete with a coffee shop and covered parking for the hot summer months. Staff is friendly and helpful. Isles are always clean and items are alway front facing, stocked and easily viewable. I have had their quiche that is available at the hot counter and was great. Rude is an understatement!!!!! i go to the bakery to ask if they have cakes on hand for purchase... the bakery lady says "all we have is what's in that freezer & we are not making any more cakes or taking any orders right now bc we are way too busy!" real rude! i didn't ask her any of the rude information she volunteered! all i asked was did they have cakes on hand for purchase! i am more then aware how ordering a specialty cake works! read more

After coming from Florida where Publixs are everywhere, I was surprised by how GREAT this Publix is!! I grew up on Publix, but after moving here wanted to give the other grocery store a chance. However, after giving them all a trial run, I still end up doing the majority of my shopping at this Publix, since it really is that superior! The build your own sub/salad area is the largest setup, and has wayyy more topping than your traditional Publix. I've been doing my regular grocery shopping here for a couple of months, and only one time did they not have an item I was looking for. Due to COVID, I expect these things to happen, but given it rarely has happened says a lot about the Company. I've had great successes with the produce/meat!! All fresh and really seem to last. This location also has a great self check out line section to speed the process up if you are only there for a few things. If you love grocery shopping like I do and want quality food/ingredients this is the place to come! read more

I am a fan of Publix and was very excited when they opened. The staff is friendly and goes the extra mile to be helpful. Since it was opening week I got to sample a lot of their foods and products. The subs and bakery are excellent. So far I have had their chocolate cake, black and white cookie, and onion rolls which were all delicious. The meat and fish counters gave great service. I have been happy with the meat and seafood I bought from here. They have a lot of prepared items which is awesome. Even with a crowd the checkout lines move fast. This is my now go to grocery store. read more

I was so excited to hear about publix coming to the Winston Salem area. I have been having publix withdraws for a few years now since I am from Florida & used to shopping at publix all the time. Where to begin? First of all, let's address the elephant in the room. They were obviously tight on space & needed to build up not out. So it's unique in the since that the building sits right above their parking lot that is actually a parking garage underneath. You need to take an elevator to get up to the grocery shopping area. The elevators are quite large & can fit several carts inside, plus they have 4 or so & u never have to wait for long for an elevator. I admit it's not typical but hey it hasn't bothered me yet & I'm an avid shopper here. I do recommend parking in the parking garage area & not the lots to the side; its more convenient to wheel your cart to your car considering the elevators are located in the parking garage area. Second, when you first walk in there is someone to greet you in their little cafe area to the right. If you decided to order something here, there is a wonderful seating area right outside that overlooks the main entrance & basically the direction of whole foods. When you actually walk through the doors your confronted with several different options. Slightly left is their deli area. There is a section where they can make you whatever sub you want & then around the corner is where you can purchase sliced deli meats & cheeses. The choices for deli meat & cheese is great & they always have selections on sale, not just their brand but other high quality brands as well. They can also make you specialty platters for lunch meetings, etc. just ask them about it & the price is reasonable. Behind you, you can pick up ready made sandwiches to go, my favorite is the Cuban :-) Third, if you turn around & head straight you get to the area where they have fresh sushi. If you don't like the selections someone is always usually there to make you want you would like. But they always have the essentials & they always have a sampler one that is really good too. Fourth, continuing down to the left is fresh produce, there's always usually something on sale here & they have info cards above the produce to tell you exactly which farms they come from, most being from Florida. Fifth, to the right is the bakery. They have a kids cookie club which is a huge hit & always seems to keep them busy, kids are welcome to a free cookie & after so many punches on their card they can get one of the jumbo cookies. Besides this, they can make you cookie platters & specialty cakes. I highly recommend their cakes, I've been getting publix cakes since I was a little girl & have never been disappointed, their buttercream icing is the best. Sixth, and probably one of their best features is their buy one get one free or 'BOGO' deals. Again, it's not always publix brand that's on sale, in fact most of the time it's name brand stuff that would never go on sale at pretty much any competing store. But that's not to say that publix brand isn't good, I'm just saying you can actually get cape cod chips on sale or that really expensive ice cream you've been dying to try but are not going to pay that crazy price! Seventh, they have everything or at least most everything. I can pretty much get all my shopping done here except for some crazy specialty items that you have to get at super specialty store. I'm very satisfied with all the products they have to choose from here. Eighth, they are very clean! The employees always smile at you & ask if they can help you with anything. I haven't come across an employee yet that wasn't extremely nice. And the cashiers always stand in front of the line when they have nobody in their aisle so you can easily see which register to go to. Ninth, this brings me to my last point, the check-out process, which is always my least favorite part of grocery shopping, is a breeze here. Their is always someone there helping to bag your groceries & sometimes they even help you put them on the conveyer belt. They always ask if you would like assistance with your groceries out to your car, I don't necessarily use this convenience but it's wonderful for people who can benefit from an extra hand. Finally, #10, I highly recommend publix. I've been shopping at publix stores for over 20 years & have never had a bad experience yet. I'm so glad we finally got one in the triad area! It really is a pleasure to shop at publix :-D P.S. - try their publix ice cream, it's great with an abundant supply of options! P.S.S - if your convinced Publix isn't going to replace your main store, at least look at the sales that go out in their ad (conveniently available online) every week. They always rotate what they place on sale & sometimes the bargains are so worth stopping by. I just got a BOGO for about 10lbs of chicken for $20, just saying ;-) read more

I'm gonna control my frustration in this post. First off I know Publix from Florida and been to several locations. This one is insane and I don't mean traffic. I went last night and the guy was asking me if I needed help, great intentions. I literally asked the most basic questions and he didn't know any of the answers. I think the flour is in this aisle. And a few other items. Great intentions bad execution. I come back today to return something and have a fine experience. When I roam the store I do appreciate everything in order with labels facing the same way and the presentation is nice. When I get to the area where they have hot meals, pastas, etc. I literally wait 15 minutes and there is only one person in front of me. The lady that was gathering food had a hair net but no serving gloves. How does that make sense?? The printing machine busted and one lady was trying to fix it then leaves. Looks me straight in the eye and walks away doesn't say anything. Some other guy tries to fix it and still no acknowledgement from anyone. And at this point I'm pissed crossing my arms. Wasting my time and no acknowledgement. I finally get my stuff and I get to the self checkout line and the lane is open. I start scanning items and the screen doesn't work to pay. The clerk had to come over and help me. She suspends the transaction and I have to go to customer service so I don't have to spend more time waiting. I go there and I pay and leave. More time wasted. How does something brand new break? I get home and after wasting all this time in the grocery store, I open my chicken salad and the chicken tastes like tofu. I'm not sure if it's even real. I doused it in hot sauce so I could live through it. The other item a Caesar pasta salad was decent, I can probably make it at home better. The elevators are slow, very slow and I just take the stairs because I'm not lazy and don't want to waste time. The prices are overpriced despite their comparison of two shopping carts right in the entrance looking tacky and trying to slam the competition next door. Everyone is nice, but it only takes you so far. You have to know what you are doing and act fast. People don't want to be hanging out in a grocery store all day no matter how new it is. If I keep writing more I'm gonna say something I shouldn't. I will leave it as is. It's a grocery store nothing more, nothing less. Why is everyone so excited about a grocery store??? read more

I'm from Florida, so I miss Publix! This one is large and has a parking garage. There's a Starbucks inside and inside and outside seating for eating etc. the subs are the best- they also have various hot items you can buy to eat there or take home. They've had someone cooking items everytime I've gone, always good and they give you the recipes. They have items you can't find in the regular stores. Their brand of items are just as good as name brand. The bakery is better than most. Glad they are moving in to NC! read more

Best sell room in Winston hands down. I would have to go to 3 different grocery stores in town to get everything I needed. Now I go to publix and Trader Joe's. The selection is similar to grocery chains in large cities which is a great addition to Winston. A little privet but the selection makes up for it. Plus, by pricey I do not mean Whole Foods pricey. read more

Went here for a few items and stopped @ Starbucks on my way out for an ice coffee. The store atmosphere seemed stagnant and tense. Employees weren't very friendly or polite. As for the iced coffee, it was the worst I've had. I ordered a medium honey almond milk iced brew, took two sips and tossed it out. Went to Panera next door and got my go to coffee, iced brew with two shots of vanilla and cream. read more

I really really like this Publix. We were already fan of Publix in general as we shop there when we visit our family in Florida. So when we saw one was opening in Winston we were pumped about it! The staff are all so nice and the customer service is just as excellent as we have always experienced with this chain grocery store. We got a grab-n-go Cuban sandwich today as we love to eat them on fm suit vacations. It was great and only like $5. We will be back often as I still have yet to check out the smoothies/coffee bar area :) read more

The only Publix in the Triad (new one opening in High Point soon though). I come here to shop once a week, eventhough I live 10 plus miles away in Kernersville. The store is always clean and well organized. Very helpful staff too. It even has a Starbucks! Any New Yorkers here? This is the only store (that I know of) sells Sabretts Onion Sauce! So rare. I love this new store!!! The parking garage was very cool and I recommend it unless you want to walk the stairs to go inside because the entrance is on the second level. The staff was beyond friendly. Every single person I met helped me, greeted me and had a genuine smile on their face. They had fresh sushi being made in the deli, an olive bar, fresh meats and several neat demonstrations going on including meal prep. Their flower section was wonderful and I got some sunflowers. The wine has a chiller so you can chill the bottle before going home. The attendant bagging groceries walked us down to our car and gave us a free icecream coupon. They also have umbrellas to let you use if it's raining. read more

This location is unique in that it features a parking garage, and lot parking. There is a large variety of products. Customers can even pick up a quick-lunch here, order a birthday cake, and utilize the pharmacy. The store is clean and the employees are helpful. Additionally, there are three customer restrooms located near check-out, one being a dedicated family restroom. Oh, and there is free wi-fi! read more

Very clean store with lots of options for lunch. Their subs are a great value and there's a pretty good hot foods bar as well. Price wise, it's average. I'd say that they're cheaper than Harris Teeter but Food Lion and Lowe's are cheaper. They usually have great sales, though. The ground level garage and second-level store could take getting used to for some. If it were closer to home and not in the Five Points area, I'd stop here more often. Great addition to W-S! This place is stocked with amazing produce and additional goodies. The store itself is huge and very nice looking on the inside. I like the bulk foods section, and the abundance of choices for other sorts of snacks, frozen fruits, etc. The prices are also very moderate and there's always a deal going on. read more

I fell for the hype and travelled over here on Sunday morning at 9:30 ish. It's indeed beautiful and obviously everything is super fresh since it just opened, but I still left feeling disappointed. Some of it had to do with the fact that it was sooooo crowded (no one's fault, and acutally a good problem if you're Publix). The rest had to do with the prices and the fact that there was very litte, if anything, there that I couldn't get at Harris Teeter for the same price or less (especially with double coupons and VIC). If there were a publix in every neighborhood, I'd choose it over anyplace else, but I won't be driving across town to shop here. I can't deal with the negatives even in light of the positives (we did totally love that they not only offered to take the groceries to the car but also unloaded the buggy. love love loved, that.) read more

I was very excited when I heard that Publix was coming to Winston Salem. I am from Florida and lived as Publix which was directly across the street from my house. This store may be Publix by name, but it pales by comparison to the hometown feel of the Florida Publix(s) where everyone takes the time to learn your name, likes, and needs. Wow! What a great experience! I shop everywhere... Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Lowe's, Food Lion, Wal-Mart... but my experience today was just great! First of all, there is a parking garage so your car stays out of the heat. It's level so the cart doesn't roll away while loading like it does at Harris Teeter on Stratford Road. There were several stations that had samples, even a meal station with recipes. The gentleman cooking said they do new meal samples every Wednesday and Sunday. Everything is well-stocked and fresh. The lady at the cheese area was making a recipe with cheese, bacon and horseradish that I tried and it was amazing! The horseradish is not overpowering but gives the spread a little kick. I bought some of that as well as the crackers she used, they are the 34 brand and come in several flavors. I agree the food options for lunch or on-the-go are not as plentiful as Harris Teeter's salad bar or Whole Foods meal bars, but there is a little bit for everyone. A lady ran her cart into an end cap while there and knocked things over, breaking a few things. Someone was immediately there to clean up and reassure her everything was fine. I went to checkout and while standing in line Kristy came to take me to other checkouts open further down with no waiting. She also bagged my groceries and asked if she could walk my cart out. Wow! What service! On the way she told me how to download the Publix app and load coupons. I will definitely be back. read more

I got to finally check out Publix this Sunday. This review is short and sweet cause after all it is just a grocery store. As everyone knows by now you park at ground level and take elevators to reach the 2nd level where the store is. They are slow and I could see where a person could get tired of the constant having to wait for the elevators to load and unload. two came up and were fully loaded with shopping carts the workers were bring back from outside. I though they should have one solely for workers to use like a service elevator so the customer could just jump on and go to where they needed. Once inside the store it looks like a Harris Teeter not a gourmet looking like Whole Foods or Fresh Market. The few items I looked at to compare prices matched up in line with Walmart! So basically Publix is a Harris Teeter with Walmart prices. All in all just a grocery store in the end, that had alot of hype built up. read more

I had a great experience today at this store and want to give praise to two employees, specifically. Rudy saw me looking at the refrigerated meats and asked if he could help. He explained several cuts of meat then offered, persistently, to cut the chops exactly like my recipe called for. When they were ready, he tracked me down to hand them to me. Special cut then special delivery. At checkout, Bethany remembered my personal shopping bag and the story behind it. She cheerfully accommodated my particular bagging preferences, and pushed my cart to the car and unloaded. I always get friendly and professional service at this store, but today these two employees exceeded my expectations. read more

Fresh fruit and being a vegetarian that is essential. The prices are reasonable and the whole staff in the store are very helpful and they even help you put your groceries in your car. And they have a garage so its easier when the weather is terrible like raining and no one wants to go to their car with groceries in the rain and then they have elevators so you can get to the store upstairs and the elevator is wide enough for your shopping cart to fit. Big Publix fan from down south for many years - mostly Florida and all over the state. The staff is almost always helpful above and beyond, like they give a darn ... unlike most stores/chains. But the W-S store seems to have an edge that I don't see anywhere else, and frankly don't like. Some of the employees would rather argue with customers (me) than just smile and move on. Twice I've had encounters where the staff could have just smiled and said have a good day. Instead, they had to continue to argue the point with me ... their customer?? I don't need to be right every time, and rarely choose to argue, but I sure don't need to argue with someone who's salary I help pay because they insist on having the last word. Learn to treat your customers with respect rather than argue with them. It's a valuable skill. read more

I drive 45 minutes each way just to shop at this grocery store. Sounds crazy, right? Well if you are vegetarian you just found "grocery store nirvana"! Delicious prepared foods section with tons of hot /cold options for vegetarians. Great salads, subs and raw veggie/ fruit dept. AND the prices are usually better than Harris Teeter. Super nice staff! I worried that another grocery store would compete with my favorites. Need not have worried. Today was my first and last time shopping at this Publix. I do not like that one has to travel up to get to the store. I found the deli help extremely rude. I gave up on my purchase of sliced ham, and they were not even busy! I don't like my produce pre-packaged. I want to choose the quantity and size of produce such as squash and green beans. The check out person told me "they" will break up packages. I'm not interested in searching for "they" when I want two zucchini instead of four. And I'm not interested in tearing apart packages myself. Many items in several departments were low or sold out. How can a grocery run out of Simply Lemonade? As I approached the checkout area I was directed to an open checkout line. The check out person was in a deep conversation with someone and ignored me and my unloaded groceries until said conversation ended. I have shopped at Publix in Florida and been a more than satisfied customer. What happened here? read more

Not bad but not worth the 30 miles I drove to go check it out. Very little that I cannot get at my local Food Lion or Walmart. Now what really impressed me was the Wegman's I went to in Fredericksburg, Virginia a few years ago. I grew tired of Costco and have no use for Bulk or I would rejoin them. I will go to Publix every few months or so just for their meat. The meat had a very nice selection for decent prices. read more
