This place is a solid 3 stars. It's not bad but it's not somewhere I would go regularly. Pros: -Friendly enough staff -The establishment appears clean -Plenty of parking -Looks like a well stocked bar -Large enough menu -Good amount of meat included in meal Cons: -GREASY. Like dripping plate of shiny orange fat greasy. Like don't bother finishing your meal because it's not worth the aftermath greasy. -Expensive. I understand we are dealing with inflation but the prices are definitely in the upscale dining range and this is not an upscale experience. -No prices on the drink menu. It's an unwelcome surprise when the bill comes. -Meh food. It's okay or even decent flavor wise (ignoring the grease) but like others have said the drinks are better than the food. read more

I would have given Puerto Vallarta 4 Stars but I gave it a 3. This Mexican restaurant has very good food. Not the best I've ever had but very good. Always solid. Reason for the lower average rating is I order takeout. Numerous times they just can't follow instructions if I call in my order, order online or order in person. For example: I ordered two separate fajitas orders. They ordered fajitas for 2. (Not the end of the world) but it's no what I ordered. I ordered all black beans NO rice. Half the container was rice. The other half was half blacked beans. Half lettuce tomato and onion. I also (note receipt) asked for ALL corn tortillas. We got ALL flour. Ordered a Texas Combo 3 tacos no cheese & no cheese on the refried. Guess what. I got cheese. So I have 3 dinners and a separate taco for a child. You would think they would give you salsa for four. I got one very small solo cup of salsa. That's it!!! I asked for EXTRA Salsa when I ordered. They charged me $5.50 for 16oz in a small container. Lastly. It's so overpriced. I know prices have increased here recently. See receipt. I don't BS in my reviews. $84.69 with tax and tip. No drinks. No alcohol. No appetizers. I could get take out pizza & sides, chinese or BBQ for 4 for less. And I don't mind paying more if you give me exactly what I ask for and disregard the requests on my order. read more

Happy to see the taqueria lunch menu. I had the tacos el pastor, 4 mini tacos and beans. Hubble has tacos melaque. Bacon wrapped shrimp! Came with rice and black beans. They have a nice large margarita. Decorated very nice for Christmas. Open on Christmas Eve so that was convenient. Nice thin tortilla chips and mildly spicy salsa. HEALTH RISK! BEWARE! DANGEROUS! I would leave 0 stars if I could and I have contacted the Health Department and provided photos and a report! My husband began eating at Puerto Vallarta last summer and there were no major issues until we ordered take out several weeks ago. My husband ordered the Mole Poblano $18.95 and I ordered the Macho Burrito with no tomatoes $13.95. The mole was fine. Three bites into my Macho Burrito I bit down on something rock hard and almost broke several teeth. (I had jaw pain for 2 days afterward). The hard object was inside the filling of the burrito. Unsure what it was, we got a magnifying glass and then decided to rinse it off to get a better look. We are unable to identify it but look carefully at the pictures I have attached and please message me if you know what it is. It looks to me like a piece of bone attached to a jaw or the tooth/gum structure of a rat or small animal that went through a meat grinder. There are fine, course, hairs in between the distinct gum-like structure, and ridges on the other side consistent with a grinder. NEEDLESS TO SAY I vomited! My husband saw to my needs, immediately grabbed the camera, took a few photos, shoved the entire order back into the bag and returned it (and the unidentified object) directly to the manager of Puerto Vallarta asking for an explanation of what it was. The manager could not explain what it was, even after he saw it and took it into the kitchen to show his cook staff. He offered my husband an apology, a refund and gave him two $10.00 gift cards. For weeks I have been unable to forget about this and feel sick to my stomach every time I think about it. Finally I decided to contact the health department and I have filed a report. WE FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS HEALTH HAZARD! WE WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN AND URGE EVERYONE TO STUDY THE PHOTOS & AVOID THIS RESTAURANT UNTIL A FULL EXPLANATION CAN BE GIVEN AND THE OBJECT IDENTIFIED! Went last night and after years of patronage , won't be back. They greatly changed their menu - many fewer options and prices increased significantly. No longer do they bring chips to the table when you sit down. They brought 2 baked tostada shells with literally 3 dots of chipotle sauce along the edge of the plate. We've always loved their salsa and but last night, it tasted like it came from a jar and was almost ketchup-y - really bad. Ordered desserts to go and even those were not as good as in the past. Appetizer called "Jacobs Ladder" was suppose to be taquitos, shrimp, and nachos was soggy, tasted like cooked from frozen, and shrimp was like a boiled shrimp with MUSHROOMS. Who on earth matches shrimp with mushrooms!? It was the oddest combination and not good at all. The whole plate was mushy and glued together with cheese; terrible. I've only been here twice but I have friends who have been here a dozen times. The menu is huge, the service is very good, it's clean and fun and the food is excellent! Everyone we've been with except for me has tried different things and loved everything. I've had the Burrito Vallarta both times because it was excellent the first time and I wanted to see if it would be just as good the second time. It was! I'll branch out to different items next time. Our group has enjoyed burritos, tacos, salads, seafood, and enchiladas. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. The chips and salsa they bring you are very good, so don't overlook them! One thing to know is that the beer selection is very limited. I can't recall seeing an IPA. I order the jumbo XX amber and that's just fine for me. Parking can be tight if they are busy and you can probably count on them being busy at the usual busy restaurant times, so plan for that. I believe they also take reservations. They may close early due to Covid but that's hopefully temporary. Put this on your list! It'll be a fun time and you won't leave hungry! read more

To go order. Fajitas without any wraps. Stone cold appetizers. We ordered the whole meal to go. Made that entirely clear. While waiting at the bar, they brought out the apps. We explained the whole order was to go. Then we waited. A very long time. Finally the food arrived. Obviously someone thought we were dining in, and main courses weren't even started yet. Instead of remaking the apps, they just let them sit until everything else was cooked. Then they forgot to give us any wraps. Food was decent but not like before. This place used to be fantastic. My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely lunch here during a weekday. Tableside guacamole was absolutely heavenly delicious! My daughter ordered the vegetarian burrito and was very pleased with it, I had an appetizer as my meal the chicken taquitos, I was happy as well. My drink order initially came out wrong as a frozen raspberry margarita instead of on the rocks, the waiter corrected his mistake right away, but the margarita was sickening sweet, at a Mexican restaurant I like my margaritas to be on point. I would give it zero stars if it weren't for the bartender, Nicole. Apparently, nobody in management realized December 26th was a business holiday and they'd be busier than any other Monday. Nicole had at least 15 customers in the bar area with no help. it was hard to order or get drinks because she physically didnt have the time. Our food order was messed up but we ate it because it took forever to come in the first place. It is sad that she was left alone to apologize for Management mistakes. so much for leadership. I have eaten at other locations and the Orange location is trying too hard to impress you by bringing their cart to make fresh Guacamole in front of you. The cart is so big it takes up the space in the isles, slowing down service and making a loud thumping noise on the floor tile ridges. You can't go a full conversation without being interrupted by the noise. Please just go back to making your guacamole in the kitchen. I'll stick to Fairfield's quiet ambiance. read more

This place has huge portions of delicious Mexican food at a reasonable price. Their chips and salsa are great, and the tableside guacamole is a must. The chili con queso dip is also a great starter. The place has a nice vibe and good ambiance. The burritos from the lunch special menu are enormous and smothered in good sauces. I was disappointed with the rice-to-other fillings ratio in the burritos, however, and next time will specifically ask for less rice in the burrito. They claim that their rice and beans are vegetarian, which is a plus. They also have white rice instead of Mexican rice available. I'm feeling it! The menu is extensive with something for everyone. The salsa and chips along with the table side guac were perfect! They keep you supplied w/ endless chips and salsa which is a plus. As my main dish i went for a deluxe burrito with chicken. It came filled with cheese, sauce, sour cream, guac, lettuce, tomato & onions, which tasted fantastic. I have also tried the chicken fajitas which weren't bad but i felt as though the onions and peppers weren't sautéed enough. I like it to have a charred taste to it. The server was attentive enough. No complaints with the service. Keep in mind this place might hurt your wallet depending on what you order. I give this place 2 instead of 1 because the bars pretty solid. If you wanna couple drinks you can definitely come here, but go get food somewhere else later. It's very pricy and the food is mediocre at best. I paid 18 dollars for steak quesadillas that I could make better at home. The steak was chewy as well. We also got a burrito and I wondered where the meat was... all I got was bites of rice. Last, and certainly least, we got the fundito as well, let's say it wasn't fun. I was out on a Friday night after happy hour with my husband when we decided on having Mexican for dinner. It was during the peak dinner hour when we came upon Puerto Vallarta. The lot looked full and we were not sure if we would get seated right away. We were greeted by a very friendly staff who seated us right away in a cozy booth. We received water and a basket of chips with salsa within minutes of seating. Our server stepped in next to ask if we wanted drinks which we did and he was very helpful to make suggestions on the margarita for me and wine for my husband. Our drinks were served promptly and our server asked if we had any questions about the menu, if we wanted apps or were ready to order. We had a few questions but were not through the extensive menu so we asked for more time to review it and to relax with our drinks and chips. When our server returned we placed our orders. Dinner was served after a while and the portions were generous. We could tell that the dinners were individually prepared and they were delightful. I had pistachio encrusted salmon over baby greens which is not really Mexican but very tasty. He had 2 tacos which came with black beans and rice plus a salad. We share a fried ice cream desert which would have been too big for one. We were very impressed with the service. There were so many staff and they were very attentive which was refreshing. I've been to this restaurant before and thought it was great. This time, I was highly disappointed. First walk in and immediately am greeted in Spanish. Luckily I understood what she was saying but I also mentioned that I don't speak Spanish (I do because I studied it, but I don't like when people just automatically assume I'm Spanish because I'm not). Whatever not a big deal, we were seated quickly. Service was prompt and we were given waters & chips & salsa immediately. My boyfriend ordered some steak dish that looked great with plantains, a bean paste, and guac. The plantains had some cream on it which resembled mayonnaise and sprinkled cheese on it. My boyfriend didn't want any because of the mayo (i don't think it was mayo but he insisted that it was). I had a couple, it was good. He also didn't touch the bean paste, not sure what he thought it was & why he even ordered this dish. He loves guac though so he was excited for it. He did complain that it was too salty. So out of the 4 things on his plate, he ate just 1. He did ask for his steak well done (I know, that's ridiculous) but I did see some pink, he still ate it. My dish on the other hand was the arroz Vallarta. When the waitress brought it over, I didn't even think it was mine. It had a good variety of foods on the plate, a lot of meat, a lot of veggies but while I was eating I didn't see any rice at all. When our waitress came back I mentioned that there was no rice but in fact there was, on the bottom & in the middle of all the food. It was probably 1 small scoop of rice topped with everything so I couldn't see it. I was highly disappointed because I wanted way more rice than that & thought the whole dish was going to be over rice. Also my biggest complaint about this dish is all the cheese they topped it with. Way. Too. Much. Cheese!!!! The small amount of rice that they did put on the place, was smothered in cheese so I barely wanted to eat any of it. I ordered it because I wanted the rice, and only had a couple bites of it. Very disappointing. I also barely finished my dish, but didn't even want to take the leftovers home because of the cheese. Ended the dinner with their tres leches cake, delicious! I would come back, but maybe take more time to read the entrees they have and make sure I will enjoy what I order. Service was a little bit slow. Slow to offer us drinks initially and partway through the meal everyone ignored us and my empty glass sitting at the very end of the table. I gave up on getting a second drink after we finished our meals. We had the mahi-mahi tacos and a combo plate with chile relleno and picadillo enchilada. I chose refried beans with it. They only offer a cheese filled relleno, but the cheese and relleno was good. We both felt the food was good. Good enough that we'd go back. We really liked Oaxaca, in downtown NH, but they decided to close a week ago. We also liked Guadalupe La Poblanita, but they closed a while back. Mezcal seems to have majorly gone downhill. We're still looking for Mexican or Tex-Mex that is not mediocre Gringo food within close proximity to New Haven. read more

This is my favorite local Mexican restaurant! They have a family friendly atmosphere and a ton of tequila options! The food menu is extensive (including vegetarian/easy to make vegan) options. The margarita list is great- my favorite is the "love boat" giant margarita.. if you ask for "hot salsa" when your chips come you can get a house made mind & house made hot for extra dipping at no cost. We frequent puerto Vallarta regularly and my favorite dishes include the taco salad, veggie fajitas, and vegetarian burrito. The manager of this location is very friendly and walks around checking on everyone making sure you're satisfied and offers happy help if you need anything. They have patio seating (when weather permits) and a nice center bar that has local games playing and is dimly lit. Worth checking out if you like Americanized Mexican food like me! read more

Do it in the back room, not in full view of the entire restaurant. The food was mediocre, certainly not "authentic" Mexican. Freshly made salsa? Nope! And...whose brainiac idea was to replace the booth lights with dim pure white LED bulbs? These give the entire restaurant a ghostly appearance, aren't warm in the least, and make the place look like a warehouse, not a restaurant. This place can and should do better. My dad had a cocktail that he thought it was the best he's ever had. (I'll try to attach a picture) Don't remember the name of it. I had a fajita quesadilla which was just the right amount of food so that I didn't leave feeling lethargic. We forgot to order the table side guac, but ordered as soon as we remembered and they promptly came and wheeled the cart over to make us some. When we arrived, we were told there was a 45 minute wait. According to the locals, this is pretty standard. We were then sat in 10 minutes. Woohoo. Our server asked if everyone at the table spoke Spanish. I'm the only one who didn't. :( She was happy to speak English for me and when she didn't, everyone else filled me in. Awesome for me-I like immersion learning. :) My only issue with out server is really that she was pushy. While we were thinking about drinks, she told us what to do. Decided we were having the guac-cool, but let us get there. She wanted to box our food up as soon as we put our forks down. She was attentive, but rather wham bam thank you ma'am. Everyone had a margarita. Mine was just the standard and it was good. The guac was awwwwesome. It was made table side by a real guac pro. It was a little spicy, which I love. There was more than enough to go around. We also had complimentary chips and salsa. These were good too. I ordered from the specials menu. Shrimp wrapped in bacon, fajita style! It was great. I would have liked some heat in it (jalapeño or something), but otherwise it was better than I expected. There were 8 huge shrimp completely covered in bacon and every vegetable you can think of covered in cheese. I really enjoyed the diversity of the veggies. My boyfriend ordered a dish that apparently translates to something like Wonders of the Sea? Allll the seafoods in a curry like the sauce with rice. This dish was also very good. The place is a little pricey-my dish was $18. It's worth it though. I brought home at least half to eat tomorrow. The restaurant is big and clean with a huge bar in the center. This place is noisy and reportedly always busy. The bathrooms were nice and clean-always a plus. I definitely want to go back on my next Connecticut trip. read more

Puerta Vallarta is a dangerous place. Customers with no masks are milling around inside and out. They are walked past other customers- most unmasked. I went for takeout and was shocked by the complete lack of COVID-19 management. Their signs are illegible. Masks on employees were the only lip service to protecting customers from the pandemic. I've been here on more than one occasion and this was by far the worst visit I've had. Service was extremely slow when we were first seated. We ended up getting up after almost ten minutes and asking to be moved to a different part of the restaurant. We were told there was one spot left and that's all they could do. The booth I sat it was uncomfortable because the bench felt broken and when I got up to use the restroom the entire booth moved. The restroom was in shambles with toilet paper in the floor and a roll of toilet paper laying in the changing table. My food was mediocre. I always get a taco salad and this particular day it wasn't that great. There was far too much shredded lettuce and little meat. The only good thing we're the chips and salsa on the table and the plantains I ordered as a side. I'm not sure I'll be returning. read more

I ate here last week with my elderly mother. We sat at the bar, and about 10 minutes after we sat down, a "professional" photographer came in and set up a giant light right over my head, without saying a word to me. No excuse me, no explanation, nothing. He began taking photos of an employee making drinks, and the flashbulbs were so bright, I got up and moved. The bartender saw me trying to move all of the food and drinks, and did not offer any assistance. He was apparently too starstruck by this activity to do his regular job. The employee who was being photographed then apologized to the photographer, saying, "This location is disgusting, Fairfield is much nicer. We could have gone there, but I knew this was closer to your studio." Very classy thing to say when people are eating nearby. read more

Friend ordered chicken taco platter but got 1 beef & she said it was inedible. The rice was like par boiled & beans were bland. Salsa was blah- I've had waaaaay better.
