Friday morning, filled with pain and discomfort, here I was trying to find one place that would extract my wisdom tooth that was just sitting there smiling at me causing me pain. I came across several places that either said they were full or couldn't help me without putting me under sedation for the procedure (It's a tooth, people, not a kidney). Such procedure would cost me between $485-$550 (per tooth). It was a hard pass for me. When I called Dr. Vargo's office I could tell they were packed as well but this time someone actually cared about my pain and not their convenience. I was quickly quoted between $120 to $280 (Keep in mind your case might be slightly different as each tooth has it's own personality) depending on the usual factors such as insurance and previous x-rays. Oh, apparently the position of your tooth roots also matters, so keep that in mind. I went to my appointment later that morning, it was a very smooth process. All the staff members were friendly and professional. Mindy promptly numbed my tooth and my pain went away. A few minutes later Dr. Vargo came in and got rid of my annoying tooth. He is a very down to earth guy and the whole experience was surprisingly pleasant. I couldn't be happier! I ended up paying $ 165.00 total, considering that I even though I had provided my previous x-rays they did not show the exact tooth they needed so I had to pay for another one. They even let me keep my tooth for the tooth fairy so take a buck or two off the total amount ?? A few hours later I got a text from Dr. Vargo with further instructions concerning my tooth (in this case, the lack thereof). It felt like the cherry on top of a chocolate ice cream that I can't have because my tooth is no longer there. Excellent service, I might have found myself a new dentist. I went in to see Dr Vargo on the recommendation of a friend. It had been a couple of years since I had seen a dentist. When I went in, I didn't have any pain or problems that I knew of, I just wanted to get my teeth cleaned. He proceeded to take X-rays. I couldn't see any issues on the x-rays, nor could he. Then he grabbed this light tool and held it on each tooth and told me it was beeping because it was on "the verge" of a bunch of cavities and if he filled it now, they would be small, but if I waited, then they would definitely end up being large cavities. He said 7 of my teeth were like this. He then proceeded to tell me that both of my old silver fillings were loose and should be replaced immediately because bacteria would get under them and rot my teeth away. I told him to only replace the one filling that was really loose and we would deal with the rest of the teeth on another day. My filling was in there so tight that he ended up drilling my tooth down to the point where he then informed me it really needed a crown. I was furious. It took two more appointments to get the crown on. I have had pain in that tooth ever since, and it's a tooth that never caused me a lick of pain before this. His office staff has continually called and harassed me to come and finish getting my teeth fixed. Out of worry and wanting a second opinion, I asked around and finally found another dentist and when I went to him, he told me I had very healthy teeth and there wasn't anything that needed to be done other than routine cleaning. When I asked about my other filling Dr Vargo said had to be replaced, he told me it was in perfect condition. I regret ever allowing Dr Vargo to work on my teeth. It was the biggest mistake ever. I've never dealt with such a dishonest dentist before. Wonder what vacation home or luxury car he wanted to use my mouth for? Never again!

Once you get to know him, his dry sarcastic and sometimes raunchy sense of humor will come out and it always makes my experience lighthearted and fun. He's made my root canal appointments less daunting and always tells it like it is. The office does not smell like cigarettes. The entire building is actually really fragrant with some type of air freshener. There aren't TVs or headphones while you're being worked on and doesn't provide nitrous gas, but none of that matters to me when I'm just gonna be in and out. He accepts my insurance, let's me know my costs upfront, and has Saturday appointments once in a while!

It was really weird pulling into the parking lot next to the big bright windows. I was shocked to…read moresee I was looking right into the room where two patients were sitting getting work done. It was unsettling to see this. It was like watching an accident you can't keep from looking at while driving by. The lady getting work done kept looking at me, and I her. How weird is that! No privacy. This is my first time here after many false starts. The first scheduled appointment was on an early Saturday morning. I answered the many text messages that wanted me to confirm my appointment, which I did. Along with a recorded telephone message saying...are you coming to your appointment. Press 1 to confirm. Which I did. When I arrived for my Saturday appointment, the doors were locked. After waiting about a half an hour I left. No communication what so ever. I was pissed. Why then so many text/phone messages asking me to confirm?! I only reluctantly rescheduled, because the location is close to me, and my daughter really likes Dr. Loosli. I liked Dr. Loosli I guess. He's a really nice older gentleman. I can't really comment on his dental work, because I didn't have any cavities, and therefore all he did was look at my x-rays. Before I met with Dr Loosli, I had x-rays and a cleaning by his dental hygienist. Well a half assed cleaning if you want to define it as a cleaning. The dental hygienist was borderline rude, and very condescending. She said she was going to use a water pick tool instead of the normal "scraper" tool that is used to scrape the plaque off your teeth. I did not like this water pick. It happened so fast I don't think it took any thing off my teeth, if I had anything on them. I got concerned when I started smelling something burning......it smelled like burnt hair. I wonder if it was because she was in such a rush to leave for the day that she wasn't paying attention to what she was doing, and burned some of my gums. Then she said "I'm only going to polish the front of your teeth." I thought to myself WTH. Why wouldn't you polish all of my teeth? and that was that. When she was done with the cleaning I said "That was the fastest, less evasive cleaning I've ever had in my entire life. Which is every six months for years and years. She just ignored me. When Dr Loosli came in the room he talked quite a long while before he got down to the business of my teeth. I told him about how fast my "cleaning" was, he didn't know what to think about that. He looked at my x-rays and my chart, and commented that the dental hygienist didn't leave any comments on my chart. I asked him if that was normal, and he said "Maybe because you don't have any cavities that's why she didn't write anything on your chart. He talked some more and I left. The whole thing was weird.

DO NOT GO TO DR. BLACK'S OFFICE. I have had multiple…read moreincidents of shoddy work from Dr. Black, and while he was interpersonally kind when I came back to get them fixed, his actual dentistry skills were lacking. Each time I was still left with unnecessarily sharp edges, broken fillings (one fell out literally in the parking lot after the appointment), and temporary crowns that fell out multiple times (including, again, falling out in the parking lot the moment I stepped out the door. I understand temporary crowns are *temporary*, but these fell out almost immediately, which I've never experienced with other dentists). I have spent hours over the course of several months in his office with my teeth worse for the wear, until I finally went to another dentist who replaced my filling. He noted that it fell out because Dr. Black didn't actually get the entire cavity cleaned out, which is likely why the filling didn't take. Despite paying hundreds of dollars upfront for this dental work, I received a bill from Dr. Black's office (for some reason it was in my husband's name, not mine, even though the work was my own) for an additional fee that insurance had apparently not covered (which I understand happens and is not necessarily Dr. Black's fault). When we called to ask if there was any leeway in not paying this additional fee given the shoddy work done by Dr. Black, the receptionist blamed us for not calling sooner and said we were not being "fair" to Dr. Black by going to another dentist to fix the work he had done poorly. When I explained that I have limited time off work and did not want to spend it sitting in the chair of a dentist who had already messed up several times when I was in intense pain from the filling falling out, she still insisted that I had made the wrong choice by going to another dentist first. Also, Dr. Black made unnecessarily sexist comments, such as remarking that women "can't handle" the pain of teeth whitening as well as men can (and research shows that doctors dismissing women's pain in this way is a major cause of medical malpractice) and that women don't know anything about cars or oil changes. When I tried to gently correct this rhetoric by stating, "I actually drove my own car to this appointment and I've managed my own oil changes for years," he smiled, disagreed with me, and held to the sexist rhetoric. Also, I have never given written consent for them to share my medical records with my husband, but somehow they joined our files (which is, I assume, why the bill came in his name instead of mine), despite us having different last names and never requesting that they do this. My assumption is that they found out we were married and use some sort of outdated "head of household" protocol to put family members together under the name of the "man of the house", but according to federal privacy laws they should not be sending my medical information to another adult unless I've filled out a HIPPA consent form (which to the best of my memory I have never done at this office). Save yourself some time, money, trouble, and sexism by finding a different dentist.
