We were recommended to come here by one of the receptionists at our Dentist's office after we found…read moreout my wife would need her wisdom teeth out. It was really easy to communicate with everyone here and set up our appointment. Everything was explained pretty clearly beforehand and when we arrived to do the surgery. I was surprised by how quickly the actual operation was performed after we finished all of the paperwork because I had barely settled down to do some reading in the waiting room when I was told that it was all done! After the surgery my loopy and super inquisitive wife was brought down to our car by a member of the staff and we went on our way to get some drugs at a local pharmacy. Very easy! Also, we received a check in the mail at a later date because we were charged too much money initially. Very nice!

I explained that I had heard patients often say funny or disoriented things during emergence from anesthesia and wanted to be present for that personal moment as his parent. They agreed to notify me. However, when staff finally came to get me, my son was already fully awake and had been moved to another room. The assistant stated they "have to move patients to another room right after the procedure" and added that my son "didn't say anything funny." I was deeply disappointed. As a parent, this was a once-in-a-lifetime moment I had specifically requested. It is not the staff's role to decide what is or isn't meaningful to our family. This experience disregarded basic patient and family rights to participate in care and be present during key recovery moments, especially after sedation. We were not given even a few minutes to accommodate a reasonable, pre-communicated request. Instead, the focus appeared to be on quickly moving patients through rather than providing patient-centered care. Wisdom teeth removal is an expensive procedure, and families expect better respect for their rights and wishes. I will not recommend this practice to others.

I got two dry sockets and had to return several times for treatment. The office is only open 4…read moredays a week, Tuesday through Friday. However, Dr. Dobson and his surgical assistants are on call throughout the weekend in case you need to be seen for treatment to relieve pain, etc. Now that I have explained this I'll get to the point of my post. I called on a Sunday morning at around 10 am to be seen for dry socket pain. When I called the office I was told by the answering service that Dr. Dobson or someone from the office would call me back. I was contacted a few minutes later by Steven, a surgical assistant, who told me he could work me in at 3pm. He told me he would contact me at 2:15 to solidify the details. I decided that because I wouldn't be seen for treatment for 5 hours I would take my full dosage of pain medication (Lortab) because I was hurting. Lortab causes drowsiness and I ended up falling asleep on my couch shortly after taking my pain meds. I woke up at about 1:15 pm because I thought I heard my phone, which was in my bedroom. I saw that I had missed 3 calls from Dr. Dobson and I had 3 messages from him as well. In his first voice message he told me he wanted me to come in to his office to see him and to call him back to confirm. I obviously didn't call back right away since I had fallen asleep. His last message he seemed irritated and told me he had been trying to reach me all day and that I needed to return his calls. I called Dr. Dobson and immediately apologized to him for not calling back right away. He was angry. He told me he couldn't wait around all day for one patient to call him back. I apologized again explaining the details of my call with Steven. Dr. Dobson responded that the details as I explained them were not true. He told me, "I know Steven, and he told you that because he couldn't see you until later that he would call me to see if I could see you and that we would call you back within 20 minutes." This wasn't true at all. Maybe that is how Dr. Dobson expects things to be handled, and it makes sense, but that wasn't what was told to me at all. I learned later that Steven had not communicated the details of our conversation to Dr. Dobson. Anyway, I told Dr. Dobson that Steven had not told me any of that and that I took pain meds thinking that I would not be seen for 5 hours. Dr. Dobson again dismissed my explanation. He told me that it wasn't important for me to take his calls because I had intentionally ignored him all day. I told him that wasn't true at all. He responded, "well you have your phone there and you obviously didn't answer". I told him that my phone was in the other room when I fell asleep. Dr. Dobson then asked me how bad the pain was and what I wanted him to do for me at this point. I was pretty angry at this point so I told him I didn't want him to do anything for me and that I would see him at our next appointment and I hung up. I have never in my life experienced this kind of behavior from a doctor. I used to work at a hospital in California and I dealt with many doctors, none of them acting as unprofessional as Dr. Dobson. I had no desire to return to Dr. Dobson's office for any reason but I had already paid at this point. I couldn't afford to go to anyone else for help with my dry sockets, so I was stuck dealing with this man. Fortunately I was contacted later by Steven who apologized for everything and took care of me when I came in for my appointments. Dr. Dobson came in when I was being helped during my last appointment and he was very polite and nice. I almost feel bad for writing about this experience, but I remember how angry and stressed this made me and how I hope to never experience such treatment again. Dr. Dobson was always nice to me when I was in his office and it is hard for me to believe how bad my phone conversation with him was. Dr. Dobson is highly skilled and probably one of the best oral surgeons in Utah. I still wouldn't go back to him for any oral surgery needs. I was in pain, heavily medicated, and very stressed about being treated so poorly by this doctor. Things worked out in the end. If you do decide to see Dr. Dobson you should definitely play by his rules, otherwise you'll probably get a tongue lashing.

He…read morewas an amazing surgeon and the benefits of this surgery have lasted me over 2 decades and I live in comfort now. After moving to California many years ago, I found myself going from horrible dentist after dentist in my insurance network only to have them tell me just to get implants or veneers on my teeth for less maintenance. I have perfect teeth and it didn't sit right with me to have several people tell me to grind them down and cover them up with veneers. In my discouragement, I made an appointment with Dr. Dobson and I flew to Utah to meet with him. He told me to save my teeth but he was not the surgeon to do the work needed. He sent me to Dr. William Christensen who is a periodontist at Cascade Medical Center who I found to be equally amazing. He was able to fit me in the same day and I had 4 root canals and some follow up appointments and felt very comfortable about my treatment. Dr. Dobson is gentle, has a wonderful bedside manner, does not do anything extreme and only treats what is needed. The scars I have going down the line of each ear are contoured with the lines of my face and he did an excellent job! There were many nerve concerns and this surgery could have left me with permanent damage but the expert hands of Dr. Dobson have never made me forget what a wonderful and "less scary" experience this was for me. I would highly recommend this surgeon!

The $2400 implant tooth that Dr. Ellis had subcontracted out ended up getting a hole in it after 9 months. So Dr. Ellis charged my clueless son over $750 more to have a replacement tooth made (because my son didn't get the insurance...too bad!!) WHAT?! I called immediately and disputed that the tooth should last AT LEAST a year. Dr. Ellis backtracked and agreed to reimburse my son's account $750 and that the subcontracted tooth was "most likely" flawed. Oh, thanks for admitting this..then why did I have to call..were you hoping to not have to eat the cost of poor quality subcontractors?! Then, my son asked for an estimate for a cash teeth cleaning. They quoted "about $200". Today, after my son's teeth cleaning they charge him $311! He disputed the charge and they said, "Oh, we had to take extra x-rays." WHAT?! He then disputed that he didn't request extra X-rays ...and they lowered the cost to $238. Gee, thanks. The staff IS friendly and it's all very high tech...just get your cash estimate in writing.
