I LOVE Pulse. I'm so glad I found it. I do community acupuncture, which is just regular acupuncture in a room with at most, in my experience, 2 others. It's really no difference, I'm usually asleep anyway. I like it because my current insurance doesn't cover acupuncture, which is dumb, and I should've looked into it. I was nervous because most places charge $145ish and I NEED acupuncture regularly, but can't afford to keep paying that, so I'm GRATEFUL for community. PLEASE DON'T STOP. I tried acupuncture as a one-off at Pulse a few years ago using the community room. It's a sliding scale which makes it incredibly an affordable AND stable form of health care. I returned in February 2020 for neck/shoulder pain where I broke my collarbone as a child. It's been aggravated over the years, coming and going. Once the pandemic hit and Pulse closed, Janaye followed up with a consultation for Chinese herbs. I appreciated her care and willingness to work with me and my issues. I went to Pulse today for the first time. My dear friend had gifted me a session because I was diagnosed with herniated discs and so far nothing is helping with the pain. I have been out of work since July, doing PT and resting and taking pain meds. The pain has only gotten worse. Yesterday I was in tears at my doctor's office because I felt so hopeless. I'm 45 and an independent woman and suddenly I can't do anything without extreme pain. I went to my session at Pulse today, excited but exhausted from lack of sleep the night before due to pain. I met Wajida who was going to punc me. She was very kind and asked me clarifying questions about what I had filled out on the new patient forms. She made sure I was comfortable on the table and began putting needles in. I've had acupuncture before so I knew what to expect. She put one needle in by my left hip that really smarted so I asked her what that one was for. She said "back pain that wraps around the front" and I laughed. No wonder it had smarted! That needle was buzzing immediately and hard at work to help with my pain. I was able to doze off a bit between Wajida coming in to check and add to my needles. It was very relaxing and just what I needed. I left Pulse feeling refreshed and noticed that everything was more vibrant. Then I realized that my back pain level had dropped significantly. I have had acupuncture before but this experience has been the best. I leave feeling a sense of peace and stillness that last through out the week. I have had seven hip surgeries and have been on a lifelong journey to overcome my pain. My first treatment focused on my right hip and low back and wow did I see results just in one treatment. Pulse is an excellent addition to the DC Metro area... these ladies know what they are doing and doing it so well! I have been going for weekly appointments; first to work out a neck pain I couldn't kick for two months. I worked with Janaye exclusively and she worked out the pain and now I am doing some balancing. I haven't worked with Jackie, but I would in a heart beat from the rave reviews my father gives her! These appointments are good for my soul, not just the physical work the ladies do, but the calm they have in the office helps me slow down a little even if its for one hour a week. I am sadly leaving town for a while... but I am eager to pick back up when I return. If you're not sure if there services will help you, stop thinking too much about it and just give them a try. I can speak for my parents, both 65+, who are no longer in pain everyday. They are exercising more and have more energy in general since they can finally sleep without lingering pain in their joints (shoulder and hip to name a few.) I met Jackie and Janaye at the DC Rollergirls bout a couple of months ago. I was recently sidelined with a knee injury - sprained meniscus and strained MCL. I was in some pain. I've never had acupuncture before and was ready to try anything to help alleviate the stiffness and pain that regular medicine wasn't helping. Jackie was so patient, answering a ton of questions with calm resolve. I don't know how she was able to be so calming at a derby bout :) The pin pricks were so minimal I could hardly tell they were in. But, I could sure feel the pressure moving away from my knee after that treatment. It was only a 15 minute treatment, but it did wonders, bringing my pain down from an 7/8 to a manageable 2/3. Jackie at Pulse Community Care has helped solve physical issues that no one else has been able to pinpoint. I am grateful for her calm and positive countenance, and for the wisdom that she brings into the exam room. I was a doubter, of course I was. How could I not be, raised as I was with the shining example of "Western" medicine that we are all taught to believe is the best path towards health. At the same time, I prefer to keep myself open to new knowledge and new possibilities, and so when my son's growing pains had not been calmed after three years of visits to a variety of doctor's offices, we decided to see what might be down a different path. I say we, but mean I decided. My boy is not fond of needles, so we paid a visit to Pulse so that he could ask questions and judge the idea for himself. Jackie took all the time he needed in order to feel comfortable and we made an appointment for a few days later. He wasn't completely won over, but was willing to give it one try. I was invited into the room so that I could see the process and ask questions. Jackie again took her time. She listened to his pulse and asked him questions about his diet, exercise, and aches. She suggested both cupping and acupuncture and waited until he was ready she brought out the cups and the needles and went to work. She explained each step, listened to him when he mentioned discomfort, and fixed the placement on anything that did not hit him just right. By the end of the hour we both trusted her completely, and had a much better understanding of the process. We thanked her, set the next appointment, and went home. That night, my boy slept better than he has in years. The next morning he woke refreshed and filled with positive energy. He then spent the next few days nearly free from the aches and nausea that have been his constant companions as his body achieves its adult form. He was actually excited to return for the second visit! I can see an amazing difference in my boy's physical condition. I can also see a difference in his overall happiness. I never had Acupunture before. I had a foot pain so bad that I couldn't wear any kind of shoes but sneakers. I went to a foot doctor and for six months I was spending money on laser treatment for the pain, customized insoles, and the pain was not going away. While I was really skeptical about acupuncture, you know the whole human pin cushion thing, I was in a ton of pain from an ankle sprain so I figured I would try anything. OMG! relief. I have been back to Jackie on a weekly basis since. Which speaks volumes because I live in Springfield, VA. Not only has she been able to work with me on my pain management of my ankle. But has also been working with me on some energy and stress issues I was having. Which I was also skeptical about but have been more than pleasantly surprised by the results. I've been seeing Jackie for the last month or so and what really makes this place stand out to me is the excitement and attention to their patients. She listens intently when I ask questions and she explains everything she does with such clarity. I've been seeing accupuncturists since I was a pre-teen for intense migraines and now as an adult I wanted a healthier alternative to fertility treatments. I was a very large skeptic of the benefit of acupuncture but I have been completely converted. First my wife had a major pain in her back that caused her to have to walk very slowly and deliberately. Her medical doctors basically told her that she would have to live with it or investigate surgery. After two sessions with Janaye not only did the pain diminish but she was able to return to her normal walking speed. This improvement encouraged me to try a few sessions with Jackie. I have a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder and serious bicep tendonitis in my left shoulder. I would be awakened with pain during the night and would have to take a number of naproxen to alleviate it so I could sleep. Changes in weather would also cause me discomfort and pain. Yes I was able to forecast rain. Anyway after 4 sessions with Jackie I no longer am having the constant night pain I used to experience and now have to rely on the weather folks for precipitation forecasts. As I mentioned earlier I was a major skeptic but now embrace the practice whole heartedly. Please if you have any pain issues like my wife and I had; give the women at Pulse a few sessions and you will appreciate the results. read more
