I was impressed during my first visit today. I am seeking relief for varicose veins in my left foot primarily along with other symptoms consistent with age. The clinic is accessible, clean, professional. Joselo greeted me & kindly showed me to the treatment area. I waited a few minutes while he took care of other patients. When he returned he apologized for keeping me waiting a few minutes. He took the time to talk, listened to my concerns. Without me really knowing the needles were popped in. Joselo took the time to ask me if I had any further questions or observations. This level of care is really important to me which I don't often find these days in Western medicine. After the treatment I feel more grounded, connected to myself & the Earth. And I notice I am moving in a more relaxed & slow manner which is a really good sign. I recommend Joselo & this clinic. I came here a while back for my first ever acupuncture appointment, always meant to write a review and would have returned for future treatments had I not relocated to the west coast. The appointment was easy, he asked what was bothering me, explained what he was going to do and it all felt very approachable. I had been having lower back pain for a few months and when I walked out of this appointment, I never felt it again. To this day, I never get back pain in that area. I'm not sure how much of that may be coincidence, but I plan to explore acupuncture more to find out. Great first experience. read more

I had my first appointment with JoseLo today, and I am very pleased! He took the time to talk to me about my chronic pain and offered real life suggestions for healing. He was not pushy with his opinions, but was very honest in his assessment. He explained what he was doing when he placed the needles. I experienced a little pain with a couple needles in my feet, and he was very sensitive to the sensations I was feeling - explaining and offering adjustments if needed. I have chronic back pain and a girlfriend recommended I check this place out - they use a sliding scale for payment and their service is impeccable. Each time I visited there were about five other people in the room being treated the same time but everyone's eyes are closed and its no big deal. Note that the office is not fancy but it's in a good location by the metro and in a safe area. Enter through the door between the Dirty Martini and Lucky Bar, they will buzz you up. Plan on wearing loose clothing with easy access to the place you are having treated (I wore gym shorts and a tank top for easy access to my hips and back). You definitely need a tank top or undershirt regardless of where you're being treated. I also brought a pair of socks to wear when I'm on the table. Also bring some ear plugs or headphones - some people fall asleep and snore which drives me crazy. Jose is a total pro although he is not there half of the time - as I understand he teaches a lot of acupuncture workshops all over the world which is pretty cool. If he's available, book him! His treatment is totally painless. The assistants are great as well so don't be afraid to work with them. Plan on spending an hour during your visit. I LOVE THE ONLINE BOOKING - super convenient. No place compares to this place, it's truly outstanding. read more

I suffered from constant migraines, and the meds weren't working for me. With acupuncture I managed to cure them and solve problems related to stress. Unbelievable bargain and I feel blessed to find affordable acupuncture in such an expensive city. i went for treatment for a migraine, something that I suffer from frequently. Generally acupuncture will help, but generally not by the end of the treatment . Same in this case-- I felt better by the late afternoon. The intake was fine and I felt okay during the actual treatment. I was also pleasantly surprised by how long the session was. Convenient to busses and the Metro. And the elevator will remind you of a 1940s Audrey Hepburn or Barbara Stanwyck movie. read more

Thank you JoseLo, Seth and Hannah! I made my first appointment at City Acupuncture to treat plantar fasciitis pain in the heel of my foot. I never thought I would try acupuncture and was a little embarrassed at my first appointment. Seth was really patient in answering all of my questions about acupuncture and showed so much compassion. Seth and JoseLo treated my heel pain weekly for 2 months and then every 3-4 weeks moving forward. The pain gradually went away and in 4 months the pain in my heel was gone! I had forgotten that I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis pain by a podiatrist who told me I would have to learn to live with the pain with the help of an expensive shoe sole. I regularly go for maintenance treatment for my foot every 4-6 weeks as a preventive measure, and for general well-being. I noticed that after an acupuncture session it did improve my overall sleep that evening. I schedule my appointments in advance online and their system always sends an email reminder the week of my appointment which is really helpful. I've also treated minor back aches due to slouching in front of my computer. Seth and JoseLo have successfully treated those aches with cupping followed by acupuncture. I've also had success treating back aches through gua sha which is scraping of the back. Hannah's work with scraping (gua sha) is also wonderful which is then followed with acupuncture. Recently I went in because I started to feel a cold coming on and Seth and Hannah did a great job treating me by scraping my back/chest and the use of acupuncture for 2 days. With their help and some rest, I definitely felt better and was able to go back to work sooner than expected. This is community acupuncture where the setup consists of 6 beds in a large open room. They have a reasonable sliding price range making it affordable to many people. This place has a positive energy. People are respectful of their neighbors by being quiet during their treatment and speaking in a low voice with the acupuncturist. I'm so glad to have found City Acupuncture. JoseLo, Seth and Hannah are professional, do wonderful work, and show so much compassion to their patients. I look forward to my next appointment! read more

Joselo, the acupuncturist here has always been pleasant to interact with. He seems very concerned about your well being and does give feedback sometimes regarding any dietary advice. This is probably the best value in acupuncture that you will find in the DC metropolitan area. In my experience, with any natural arts healing, like acupuncture, it's best to try to disclose and tell as much as you can to the acupuncturist about your health, emotional wellness, and life in general as that will give you the best results from acupuncture. I've personally have seen one or two people go to acupuncture but not tell the acupuncturist almost anything - consequently, they ended up getting very few noticeable results. read more

City Acupuncture was my first experience with acupuncture, and I can say I am now a believer! I came in with really bad neck/back/shoulder pain, and JoseLo tried a few different techniques -- including cupping, Guasha, and acupuncture to help me out. The next day, my back is definitely red from the Guasha, but I am feeling complete relief (which has been rare for me lately!). As a first-timer to all of this, JoseLo took time to explain what he was doing and tell me what to expect. He even followed up with an email giving me the name of the Guasha treatment in case I wanted to google it. The community aspect of this was nice, too. Who wants their healing to be isolated? This place is amazing! This was the first office where I tried acupuncture and was immediately hooked. I like the community approach as the sliding scale for payment makes this affordable for just about anyone. It was a bit weird the first time to be in a room with other people who were also receiving treatment but after a few minutes I was able to tune out everyone else and just relax. I have been receiving acupuncture for almost 15 years in a private setting. When I found City Acupuncture Circle through Living Social I was excited to try it since it was super cost efficient. I was pleasantly surprised! JoseLo is a great acupuncturist. It is important to make sure you have a good relationship with someone who will be providing any sort of body work, and he's just great. I have been going once a week to balance out my body in addition to some neck and back pain. I feel great! The sliding pay scale is great and makes this great service more accessible. I highly recommend CAC and JoseLo. He takes the time to explain the procedures and is also very knowledgeable in a lot of areas. I wish I had found him sooner as I am leaving the DC area, however he was able to recommend some great acupuncturists in my new area. Joselo is amazing. I have nothing but praise for him and his practice. One small challenge some people may experience, the building has a tiny elevator and the practice is located in the top floor. If you have mobility issues you should know that the elevator is very small (as in it barely fits two people). But there is an elevator! read more

I'm in my late 20s, but my body had been feeling like a 60 year old for about a year. I have been extremely fatigue, my body ached (especially my knees) and I moved slow. I tried working out, taking more vitamins and getting more sleep but it wasn't enough. After doing some research I decided to give acupuncture a try and I am so glad I found CAC and JoseLo. It has been only 3 sessions and I am already seeing results. My knees feel a lot better, my energy is picking back up and most importantly my bowels are back to being regular! No more constipation! JoseLo put me on a paleo-type diet because he said I was over-working my kidneys (kidney chi deficiency) and that is why I have been feeling so "old." It has been a challenge but I told him I would stick to the no wheat, no dairy and no sugar diet. I have truly kept my word because I desperately wanted to get better so I had nothing to lose. The community atmosphere is not a bother at all. The clients there aren't even paying attention to you when you walk in or get settled on the massage table. Half of them are asleep! (I know I always go to sleep.) JoseLo has a very kind spirit and I trust that he knows his craft. I usually make my appointments on my flexible days and if I have no where to be he'll just let me stay for 1.5-2 hours. That's great service. Plus, the "pay what you can" method is really heaven-sent. Even if all you can pay is $20, JoseLo doesn't make you feel ashamed about it. You get the same great service no matter what you can pay. His practice is obviously growing and today he brought in his new assistant/apprentice. I hope that the assistant really pays attention to JoseLo's methods, customer service, listening skills, and techniques so current and future clients can begin to rave about him! People tend to get nervous when someone new comes into the practice because they are hoping they provide the same great service and treatment as the person they are comfortable dealing with. I am excited today because I have completed my 45th session (January thru June, 2013) at City Acupuncture Circle with JoseLo Gutierrez, M. Ac. When I met JoseLo, I was frustrated and in severe pain in my neck and hip areas. I had been evaluated by 6 doctors, screened through x-rays, MRI, blood work, physical therapy, etc. and they could not find anything based on science. JoseLo, was very gracious and explained the beliefs of Chinese healing and traditions. I became hopeful and started my journey. I started attending three days a week, two days a week, now once a week, next month once or twice a month. Today, I have no pain a little stiffness in my hips but healthier and stronger. So very happy I went here. Had my first Gua Sha and Cupping session yesterday and it was wonderful! I came in because I had a horrible cold, brain fog and back ache. Before my therapy was done I was able to breath freely again and my back pain was and is totally gone. I have had issues with tight and knotted muscles in my neck and back for several years. I've tried massage therapy, a chiropractor and sports massage and although I might get relief for a few days, the pain always returned. At my last appointment with Joselo, he performed the Gua Sha skin rubbing technique on me. I cannot tell you what a relief it was to wake up pain free every morning since (4). Professionally trained and certified, JoseLo Gutierrez, M. Ac. is a wonderful gift to the DC metro area. The Dupont Circle location can't be beat, either, and that it's above one of my favorite bars (Lucky Bar) in the city, with the Thanksgiving-like aromas wafting in from Julia's Empanadas, it's like it's a special place in heaven! JoseLo has been healing me for over a year and a half. I came to him by way of specifically looking for community acupuncture and another place in the city being on a waiting list. I highly recommend City Acupuncture Circle. I tried it out for the first time this week and am planning to go back. It's easily accessible located in the offices just above Lucky Bar on Connecticut. Once you buzz in take a good look around to find the elevator, otherwise it's easy to be enticed by the stairs which becomes a bit of a climb by the time you reach the 5th floor. The office is clean and peaceful. The Acupuncturist, Joselo, has a very calm and pleasant manner about him. He listened patiently to my health concerns and proceeded carefully explaining about the needles and asking pertinent questions. I felt very safe with him having never had acupuncture before. I left there feeling much better then when I arrived. Also, I have to say, I love the concept of sustainable health care through this style of community acupuncture, where potentially more then one person can be treated at the same time thus making it more affordable. I think people in this area who are busy and over worked can really benefit from a clinic like this where you can walk-in and power down, like the business napping rooms of the orient, and get your chi flowing too! read more

I never leave Yelp reviews but... they left a needle in my head. It was my first time at acupuncture; I decided to go because I have chronic migraines. The acupuncturist didn't explain why he was putting the needles in those specific spots or why he thought that would help, he just stuck them in and left, without telling me how long I would be there or what would happen. After I left, I discovered a needle still stuck in my head (it was fine, I just pulled it out, but not... ideal.) A friend who also went to this place later told me he found needles stuck in his body twice. The price is good, but I'm not sure it's worth it. read more
