Signature Pumpkin salad && turmeric latte
    Shivi S.

FOOD 4 // SERVICE 3// AMBIANCE 4 First off -- I LOVE MY EMPTY CARBS ... but the fact that I was filled after having a bread-less lunch is amazing. This is a super cute cafe ; very big with lots of seating and great lighting. So most of the food is in the refrigerator and the hot meal was a soup (when I was there). There are tons of teas, coffee beverages and unique beverages like the pumpkin spice latte and turmeric latte. I got the signature pumpkin salad (forgot the actual name) and it had tons of beans, pumpkin pieces, kale, bell pepper and cayenne pepper with a pomegranate molasses dressing along with the turmeric latte. All the beverages are dairyfree and are made of either soy or coconut milk (they had a few other milks too). The meal was flavorful and tasted so very clean! I felt so full, but in the best way, after the salad. The turmeric latte was very good as well -- I was surprised that it paired well with the coconut milk! As a proponent and fan of turmeric (haldi) I was pleased with the fact you could actually taste the turmeric. The fact that they even had this was amazing!! Turmeric is so good for your health -- definitely try it out. Will be back to try the smoothies and some of the raw sweets they offer!

Good music. Hot meal of the day was veggie chilli on brown rice.. decent serving and delicious No wifi though. Cafe serves healthy meals

    Moroccan tangine salad.

Everything is super fresh, delicious AND beautiful. The vibe is cool, if slightly under welcoming. Best roobois latte ever. Wish there were more outdoor seating. Every day their salad selection seems to change...the Moroccan Tangine one I had today was fantastic. Can't wait to come back and see what salads they have next time.

The cafe wasn't really tasty but quite expensive. But I liked it that they offer plenty of different milks

The Lemon & Herb Baked Fish was so flavorful and juicy. I tried a Deep Fried Mars Bar for the first time and loved it (I don't know what it reminds me of, but it's crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and hot enough to burn the top of your mouth). The star was definitely the Breaded Haddock. I've had fish and chips around the UK for much cheaper, but at a slightly higher price point you get a perfectly crispy piece of fish with double-fried chips. It's really more about the experience of being in a posh fish shop. It's packed with tourists, so you'll be handed a map of the city at the end -- which I found to be pretty funny given I was living in Edinburgh at the time and came with another local. But it's charming and certainly worth a visit.

The bakery is based on Rodney St, other side from the Marshmallow Lady. They have some seats inside (about 6 perhaps) so you can sit in and grab cake and coffee. The seating area was full when I visited and I wanted cake to take away. They had some cookies (60p each), brownies (£2.20 - £2.50 each) and a couple of cupcakes including red velvet (£2.50). I grabbed a white chocolate blondie and a red velvet to go. I was surprised at so many brownies available (normal, peanut butter, salted caramel, etc) as many gf people have brownie fatigue as thats traditionally the only cake we'd be offered. Service was friendly and helpful. There is a loyalty card - collect the stamps and after six, get a freebie. So, the taste test. I tried a bit of the blondie as I was wandering to Stockbridge. Very sweet, and I'm a sugar junkie so I was glad I only had a couple of little bites as I think the full thing would be too much. I was saving myself for the red velvet cupcake. It was disappointing which I hate to say as I love that places like this are popping up and catering to gf. I could see the top of the cupcake was cracked so I thought this might mean it was overbaked and it was :-( In the interests of research, I ate it all but it was consistently a bit hard throughout. I did like the icing, really good and not fake sweet like Bibi's had ended up. So, 3 stars. I wasn't wowed but I'd return once the hype has died down to see if the cupcakes are better.

This was our 2nd attempt to visit as when we visited the 1st time it was closed. The inside of the bakery was very retro which i loved and the display case had 10 different cakes to chose from!! There are little lables attached to each cake as some are also vegan and nut free. I chose the ginger cake and my bf had the mint choc brownie. Both were huge slabs of cake for £2.50. They really dont scrimp on portion sizes. My ginger cake was amazing if slightly on the sweet side. I sampled the bf's brownie and it was really nice. I brought home some cupcakes and also a pizza scone to try. There are 6 bar stools to use if you want to sit in but unfortunately they dont have any soft drinks which is what stopped this from being a given a 5 star review. Will definitely be back when visiting Edinburgh!

We tried on our first week in Edinburgh and failed, but were able to make reservations 3 weeks out for our last night in Scotland, and we are glad we did. Pork cracklins were a bit hard and crunchy, but everything else was perfect. We had fresh bread and langostinis for starters, along with a smokey whiskey cocktail, the Smoked Indiscretion! For mains we enjoyed the poached Cod, and the Pork with Barley. Service was very good, and wine selection was extensive. Atmosphere was loud with music and locals' chatter in the bar below, but dark tables and heavy wood panels made it a perfect place for a couple celebrating 3 weeks of travel. Highly recommend a visit to the Devil's Advocate, if you can book a table in advance.

But they call these lessons, "character building," apparently. No matter, the Devil's Advocate is worth the search. Located in an old Victorian pump house halfway up (or down) Advocate's Close, the Devil's Advocate is known for a killer whisky shelf of more than 300 different bottles from various distilleries across the Highlands, Lowlands, Speyside, Campbelltown, the Islands, and Islay. I finally sipped on a 15-year Tamdu that has convinced me to keep a bottle at home. Then there's the Clydeside 2024 Limited Edition Cask Strength that was wicked impressive. The bartenders are class at making and serving seasonal and regular cocktails that have their spin and character. My wife enjoyed gin-based cocktails such as the Clean Slate (with St-Germain, citrus, and sugar), Rose Garden (with Yellow Chartreuse, Cocchi Rosa, apple, lemon, and mint), and Bee's Knees (honey and lemon). I went full speed ahead with the scotch cocktails, which are essentially classics with a scotch-substituted twist. The Double Shot is an Espresso Martini with Dalmore 12 in addition to Kahlua, espresso, and demerara -- quite smooth without being too sweet. The Scotzia is a Negroni with Fettercairn 12, while the Boxcar is a Sidecar only with Aberfeldy 12. We enjoyed the bar for a few hours, watching the bartenders make magic while sipping on cocktails, while listening to 80s pop tunes. A great evening indeed.
