Holy deliciousness! This place exceeded my expectations. It's hard to find good vegan food and this place delivered. It has more than good vegan food, it has delicious food! From their salads to their burgers and desserts, everything packs flavor. Wonderful little restaurant full of character and cute decor. Definitely my kind of taste. The servers were fast and attentive. We received our food at a timely manner and were very happy with the service. The place is clean, offers free & fast WiFi and is reasonably priced.

Wonderful cafe, with a focus on organic, healthy, yet still delicious and fun food. I've had a couple of the burgers, and they were both mighty tasty. The Mexican burger that I had this week probably rates as the best vegan burger of all time that I've ever eaten. Yes, it was that good! And proper chips made from potatoes :-) The cakes are also pretty mighty - I've had a peanut butter and chocolate cake, and the coconut banoffee pie, which was just an utter delight. The juices are good too, and my colleague really enjoyed his protein shake. And some of my chips... A winner for everyone, and a vegan haven.

Desert heaven! What a cake I had there. But first thing first. I came to full restaurant. Service was amazing and seated me kindly to waiting sofas. After I was seated I got free water (I know it is not everywhere in UK) and menu. I wasn't sure what I exactly want, so I asked for help from service. She offered me Quater pounder burger. I said yes. Quater pounder is automatically with fries. Fries were amazing. But I had better burger. I wasn't bad, but I didn't enjoy it. What came after burger was perfect. I ordered cake with peanut butter and chocolate. Heaven in my mouth! I also had Capucino where you can choose what kind of milk you want. My overall feelings about Holy cow are positive and recommend them for visit.

Best vegan burger I've had! I got the quarter pounder and my boyfriend got the Mexican burger and we were both drooling by the end. Their buns are homemade which makes them especially delightful. We shared a slice of chocolate salted caramel cake which was sooo good, I wish we could've tried all of their cakes (they had six!!). Everything's vegan and everything's delicious!!

You wouldn't be wrong, but also not the greatest of reputations. Then a place like Makars stands up and says "We can be Scottish and delicious" and the result is a humble restaurant in old town dishing out quality comfort food. I wish I had come here hungover. It's one of those places where everything on the menu seems to be aimed at reviving a wounded tourist. For most people the people will consist of a meat of your choice on top of a mash potatoes of your choice. All of the options looked awesome. I was just coming from an 11 hour flight, so I didn't get too crazy. I pulled trigger on a pork over bacon mash and it did not miss. The meat was exceptionally fall off the bone tender and the mash potatoes were flavorful and complimented the meat perfectly. One bit of advice - the portions are big so either come hungry or consider splitting an entree. I'd feel confident recommending this place to anyone who thinks that the Scots can't cook. It'll prove them wrong.

There are 2 levels for seats and the place was full and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The noise wasn't as loud as I would have expected for the amount of people there. The food was delicious but the proportion was a little smaller than I wanted. The cost was also a little higher than I would have expected to pay but I'm happy to have eaten here. Good selection of entrees, great selection of mashed potatoes, and a decent selection of desserts. The staff were very friendly and professional. May come back and try other items like the appetizers.

We decided on this restaurant late in the day, and the only reservation was late...we took it but showed up a couple hours early, and with a short wait, they were able to seat us at a nice table on a busy evening. Grateful for that! My wife and I shared two starters, the final and the smoked tofu. We loved everything about both of these dishes in taste and presentation. We also shared the Double-Baked Pudding - a delicate dish sort of like a soufflé made with a nice cheese ambiance about it. Really good flavors and Scottish ingredients for the win. We liked it, though the starters were definitely the stars of the meal for us. We didn't have a cocktail as we were heading out to a whisky bar later (and we have limits ;) but the cocktail menu looked delicious and what we saw being delivered to other tables also had as second guessing those limits we have for ourselves. We're lucky to have stumbled on this spot...off the beaten path, but close enough to the Royal Mile to make it accessible on foot. It's simple but tasteful. Our server Iona, brought us to our table at the window where we were able to watch the world walk by. Iona was very helpful and guided us to make excellent choices. She's very friendly and professional. For lunch we chose several starters and a main. The starters included the short crust tart that was a delicate pastry filled with clarified onion and cheese. Totally delicious. My wife enjoyed the dinner salad with very fresh veggies. We also chose the lemon braised fennel and David's tofu. We were trying to she appetite for dinner and only ordered one main, the Koftas. They are like an eggplant felafel. They were delicious. The slightly spicy curry sauce in which they were served was also great.
