Anyway, my wife, from Ohio some of her life, mentioned that she has seen the sign for this place over the years and never stopped. So retired now, with no place to be on any specific time, I took the exit. It is a few miles off the interstate, but be patient. It is in a neat little plaza, with a few other holiday themed businesses. The store is pretty big, not "massive" ( as in Walmart Supercenter size) but the biggest just Christmas stuff store I have ever been in. It is chocked full of just about anything you might want. The offerings range from artistic to whimsical to WTH was that artist thinking. I don't really have a frame of reference for the prices on stuff. Some things seemed reasonable, and other things quite a bit out of my comfort zone for decorations/tchotchkes. Of course no one needs any of this stuff but it sure is fun to have a place like this for those things you might want.

But I did check out the hype and the historic part of Santa Claus, Indiana. Besides Holiday World, there are a few must-do places while in town, and the Christmas Store is no exception. This is a very large store as it looks so small on the outside. It is part of a strip-mall, and it has multiple rooms - some of them having a theme. One has several personalized ornaments, another with snowman-themed stuff, one with secular decorations and another with train sets and ornaments. It's a Christmas/holiday lovers heaven, as there is so much to look and buy. Luckily I don't collect any of that stuff but my sister who easily gets in the holiday spirit early would. There's also a fudge/candy/confectionary place inside. There was also a room where kids can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, but it was not in use at the time of my visit. I didn't really buy anything for myself here, but spent a lot on gifts here.

First... They have…read moreall the candy. I mean it. There were or s in here I literally haven't seen since I was 5 years old (as of this writing I'm 50.). So yes, all the candy. And reasonably priced for all considering how rare it all is. They are only open on weekends so plan your trips accordingly, but I highly recommend the "cold hot chocolate" as an impulse buy at the cash register. Several hundred calories be damned - that was the best chocolate drink I've ever tasted! Also, you have to buy on site. Bummer. Although the experience suggests this to be mandatory, it would've been nice to pick up / order missed items online. They used to do this but it wasn't profitable so they expanded their on-site offerings instead. The host whose name escapes me was in for me to e and passionate about this store & its mission. Worth the trip - combine it with Santa Claus, IN trip to stores and there park for a well-rounded adventure!

They offer a variety of home goods with a broad selection of ceramic objects in particular ranging from candle holders to soap dispensers to spoon rests. My wife and I decided to browse and check it out (we like independent shops since you get a different mix of items than the chains.) There were the usual types of items you find in a gift store: jewelry, candles, greeting cards, floral sprigs, etc. But they were different brands which makes it seem like you tried a little harder to find the right gift. One of our favorites in the store was the line of greeting cards. They made us chuckle and pick out more to read. They also carry magnets and post it notes with the funny sayings. Simply unique and a wide selection to choose from. The store tends to carry products/gifts targeted more to the female gender, so I didn't find anything for my guy friends, but I could see it being a place that ladies might enjoy exploring.
