Especially since I rarely choose something that is vegetarian when there's a meat option, it's a high compliment that I choose the loroco pupusas over ones with meat. Oh, I so wanted to give them higher marks, but don't get me wrong they are good. I just wanted to be knocked out as El Salvadorian cuisine is on the money. Wasn't a busy day in the least, but it seemed like service was at a standstill. It's a small little restaurant, nestled on the corner with many other establishments all over. And guess what? It is BYOB so prepare yourself. Of course, not sure if mimosas paired well with pupusas, but we made it work! I am appreciative of the fact that BYOB is an option, as many places aren't. The whole atmosphere is typical of restaurants in El Salvador. Small, quaint, and cramped. It's great though as the small staff working did what they had to do to make sure people were taken care of. The waiter even brought us glasses to make out mimosas, and it wasn't plastic cups! Nice. Now the pupusas are super good, with the exact taste you would find in El Salvador. Crispy homemade dough with fillings of your choice. I chose the chicharon and cheese and it was a good-tasting pupusa. Of course, you top it off with the cabbage mixture and some hot sauce, and BAM, you're set! I also ordered the longaniza dinner. Now this is where it loses me. The skin on the longaniza was a little tough and the meat was a little too flavored with mint, but not enough for me to walk away. It did what it had to do and that was to make me smile. Overall, I did enjoy the good, would I come back? Maybe for the pupusas, maybe. But why not try a different region of South America if you are near? I'm sure you will like it. read more

This is the place to go for pupusas! They have plenty of vegetarian options on the menu, from pupusas to tamales to tostadas to tortas. I got the cheese pupusa but they also had a bean version, and the little cabbage salad it comes with goes perfectly with the pupusas. Their green hot sauce goes well with all of the dishes. I always get the horchata here, as it's horchata de morro which is yummy and not overly sweet. The prices are very reasonable, so I like to get a little bit of everything to sample from. There's plenty of seating in the restaurant and it seems to be a popular place with people coming in and out. It's colorful inside, and I like how many window seats there are available. The servers are very nice, and the food comes out hot and fresh. I've had take out from here too and it was great. There's street parking right out front, perfect for picking up or eating in. And the most popular. Everything is made from scratch. Staff is small so expect a wait.... Se ve que le echan ganas. My new favorite pupusa spot in the city!!! Such a gem!!! Disappointed, chicharrón wasn't tasty in pupusas. They were right sized and the masa consistency great and enough cheese but as a Salvadoran, wouldn't buy again. I also bought tortitas de carne but in the menu it was labeled incorrectly with photo and daughter wanted to order empanadas de carne which I told her that's not what you think it is but we ordered the way it said on mini and I was right, wrong order- got tortitas that tasted weird (not edible) I make them all the time at home. Please fix your menu:Empanadas de carne aren't tortitas de carne. The only thing ok was the yuca frita y chicharrón but how you going to mess up fried food lol. read more

I ordered a large order for a party, about 60-70 tamales/pupusas and they did such a great job. There was a snafu with grubhub sending the order through but they were able to sort it out with me on the phone. Everything tasted great, I especially liked the corn tamales. This place is delicious! I checked it out in mid-September for dinner and it's about time for another visit! I got the bean and cheese pupusa and a side of plantains with cream and beans. The pupusa was great but the plantains were absolute perfection!! Oh and I had a side of rice which was fine, good standard rice. My bf got a chicken and a mixta pupusa which he also raved about but his favorite was the pollo y pan dish. It wa ssuch a beautiful presentation and he said he'd get it again. This place is definitely no frills, as someone else mentioned the bathroom is rather small and right by the kitchen but that didn't matter to us much. So I needed to make sure I found a good place that had papusas AND fried plantains. This papusaria definitely fits the bill! Price: Due to its location everything is super reasonable which is amazing! I think my dinner came out to maybe $10. I got a drink, fried plantains, and 2 papusas! Size: Papusas are deceptively filling. 2 is sufficient and these are normal size; slightly bigger than a tortilla. Now the plantains... whoa. They give you like 2 plantains, though they say it's one and split it in 4ths and then fry each piece individually and plop them on a plantain tower. AMAZING. They also are quite tasty... because they are fried plantains. If you want to try papusas, or love papusas or have had a bad experience one time and want to give it another shot, check this place out! read more

We also liked the empanadas. They were slightly sweet and tasted great with the (spicy!) green sauce. Skip the tamale--lacked flavor. cuscatleco pupuseria is the name I think. That's what it says on the menu. So the man has served us was awesome. He was very nice and helpful. The bathroom was cold. Right by the back door with no heat. This was my second restaurant like this within a week because I'm trying this new type of food. We ordered the hot corn drink which was quite awesome. Very different from what you would expect. Of course it's lumpy with the corn. Delicious. We ordered the pupusas and honestly they had no taste. I don't know why. We ordered the chicken and corn. If it wasn't for the green sauce I was putting on it they would have literally no flavor. Then we ordered the three little empanadas. And the only flavor on those with the outside fried crust. I really really wanted to like this place. But I was quite disappointed. Didn't even finish my meal. There are other restaurants like this in Chicago and I will continue to try more. read more

Well alright. We have a real winner here. The place is really clean and bright. The color really works (for me at least). I felt like I should come back for breakfast. It was very homey and welcoming like a good kitchen or somesuch The food is excellent. Pupusas are made to order so freshness def gets points. The curtido is clearly handmade in house and we got a ton of it, free with the order. I had a lot left over and have been putting it on turkey sandwiches for work. Try that. I wish i could be more descriptive with my praise for this operation. I think they're awesome and most definitely worth a try. Check this place out.
