Everything is made to order(which does mean there's a little wait - but well worth it), parking was easy, and the curtido paired perfectly with the pupusas , super crispy and refreshing. Definitely enjoyed my meal at Pupuseria. When I arrived I was the only customer so I was able to receive some 1:1 attention. The server/ host/ runner was great. She managed the store well and gave great recs. She provided chips and salsa along with water within 5 minutes of me sitting and settling in. I decided on the chicken and one poblano pepper pupusa and it came with some type of slaw. Very crunchy, favorable and added to the food items. I can say that the food itself stands alone on its own. We stopped by La Pupuseria Cafe a couple weeks ago because I was craving a crepe, and it was conveniently on our way home. The place is small but that wasn't the issue, the service was truly one of the worst we've ever experienced. I ordered a sweet crepe expecting something balanced with honey or syrup. Instead, it came absolutely drenched in what tasted like an entire can of La Lechera. It wasn't just overly sweet, it was inedible. Just straight liquid sugar with no flavor. My husband asked for a simple pork plate not pupusas, just the pork in the same quantity they use for three pupusas. A very reasonable request, considering they already had the pork prepared. Instead of trying to help, the two ladies behind the counter gave us the most dismissive, almost hostile looks and repeated "we don't sell that" with zero interest in accommodating or even listening. We would pay the full price, but it was clear they didn't care. And honestly, they didn't act like they were the owners, just employees doing the bare minimum. This was hands down one of the most unpleasant restaurant experiences we've had. We still talk about it every time we pass by, and not in a good way. Not recommended, not returning. read more

Or similar to a gordiita maybe? I'm not sure and I know I'm not doing justice to a description. Just know they are so good here. This is a classic food item from Salvador and Honduras. They have a huge variety of flavors but I had beans with cheese. Other flavors include Mushroom, Squash, Chicharron, Lorocco, vegetarian, steak....just to name a fraction of them. There has never been a really good pupuseria anywhere south of 23rd street. There finally is with Pupuseria Cafe. It doesn't look like anything fancy but the flavors are authentic and amazing. Great pupusas are not too oily and these fit the bill. I recommend the plain cheese or revuelto if you're not feeling adventurous and The lorroco if you want a more unique flavor. The horchata is salvadoranian style and much different than Mexican. Everything is legit but they also realize lots of Mexican food lovers would be visiting so they've got some super spicy salsa too! The popular are always super fresh. They are a little pricey but good. The only issue I've had 2 times now is that I pre-order to avoid waiting and when I call to confirm minutes before getting there, they say it's ready but i still wind up waiting. So we came in ordered our food. They took our number and said in 30 minutes it'll be ready. 40 mins later I go in after not receiving a call. They hand me my bag and say hey it's ready.. about 20 mins later I arrive home and realized 6 of my pupusas aren't in my order and I only received 4. After calling numerous times I finally get though and realize I have to drive all the way back to get my food which okay I get there and I'm told i have to wait because their not ready. I walked into the restaurant we sat at the empty table and were told that the table was taken. The waiter said she would call us once a table was available, which at the time 3 tables were open. Another customer walked in and got seated right away, when I went in to ask how much longer or if reservations were needed she said no. Love this place!! This family-owned, local restaurant is a must have when looking for a quick, filling Salvadoran fix. This is the first place I've tried pupusas, and I'm hesitant to try another one in fear that it won't meet the bar that Pupuseria Cafe has set so high! There are a variety of items to choose from, whether it's their array of pupusas or their giant quesadillas, you'll find yourself gazing the menu for a little while. Asada: the steak is tender, moist and flavorful. Paired with the perfect amount of cheese, each bite fills your mouth with flavor! The cornmeal is always soft and filling. At times it may be slightly greasy, but as expected when it's cooked to perfection. Rajas con Queso: amazing! I love choosing a vegetable based pupusa to pair with an asada or pollo pupusa. The poblano pepper is flavorful, but not spicy as expected. Using the salsas provided at the table helps add spice to the dish. The peppers are cooked just right, without being too soggy. The two mentioned are my favorites, but I've also enjoyed the pollo and loroco pupusas in the past. All pupusas are best enjoyed with curtido (cabbage relish with onions, peppers and carrots - so tasty and a must-try!) Lastly, the crepes. These are the perfect cap to a delish pupusa dinner. With its size, the crepes can easily be split amongst 2-4 people. Although a bit heavy on the sweet side (which I don't mind because of my sweet tooth), the crepes are filling and always served fresh! Not pictured but worth a mention: the homemade horchata is phenomenal and definitely worth trying. The cafe is always clean and the waitresses are attentive and kind. Hey let's be honest, a good papusa is hard to find in this city and unheard of on the southside. This little gem satisfied my girl from " Guate " and that's not easy. They even have the rare rice masa papusas which are delicate and amazing. ITS NOT A GORDITA, If you don't know the difference then move on, you have no business here! Lol. Been here twice and I love this place. They're quesadillas are not what you expect at all like the flat Mexican ones. They have the dough folded in half and stuff with whatever you choose. We had the steak and cheese and it was incredible. I love the coleslaw. Best coleslaw from any restaurant like this that I've had. I ordered the Cuban torta which I did not enjoy but that could be because I don't like Cuban Tortas.
