I booked the Pura Vida tour at the last moment, unsure about the covid regulations. As around 8pm (time of the appointement) I saw no-one, I gave a ring and the boss asked me whether I'd like to be reimbursed. He apologized because he had not received the computer confirmation. Since I departed the following day, I opted for going ahead.
The boss turned out to be Francisco, a charming man who instantly asked me what I wanted to see (my knowledge of Barcelona is very elementary).
He drove me along streets, plazas and lanes for a visit I will never forget: the Gothic Quarter, cathedral saint Eulalia, Columbus landing point at his return from the Americas, Picasso's natal house, Gaudi's house and so many others. I am still wondering how he managed to put so many things within one hour, both hurrying along the lanes and pausing to give me erudite explanations, backgrounds and anecdotes and leave me time to take photos.
It was far better than a classical coach tour. There, I could get down from the rickshaw and touch the monuments rather than craning my neck to try to have a glance at things.
Francesco gave me all necessary information about the current laws and finer points. In perfect English because I don't speak Spanish.
Eventually, he dropped me at one underground station of my hotel near the Sagrada Familia. Put it another way: take me back home.
This first visit and tour of Barcelona was literaly unforgettable.
I especially appreciated Francisco's abitility to understand situations and adapt instantly.
It was only my first tour with him as I will come back to Barcelona soon. read more
