This was an incredible gem in Waco! I had a girls weekend in Waco and scheduled a massage. The spa was absolutely adorable with a peaceful, calming vibe. And it was one of the BEST massages of my life! Rhonda is excellent at her craft. She addressed muscles that needed attention I didn't mention. Vacay in Waco and looking for a relaxing spa experience. I know that visiting a spa for the first time while on vacation is always a little iffy but I was willing to give it a shot. I went all in and even booked a 90 minute session. Although the massage therapist was very nice, the massage itself was a disappointment. My friend who went with me said the same thing about hers. Before the massage therapist started, we discussed the type of massage I wanted and pressure level. I told her I could tolerate a lot of pressure akin to a deep tissue massage. She responded, great because that was how she massaged. Sorry to say it was not a massage. It was soft pressing of the skin. No kneading or rubbing, just soft pressure like how you handle a peach to test its ripeness. I thought she was working up to more pressure but it never happened. I get a massage back home every week and experienced many resort and day spa massages. I've never experienced a massage like this. Again, she was very nice and I tipped her well, I was just disappointed with my massage experience. read more

My first visit was pricey! I'm not using that to impact my rating because this was my first Brazilian Blowout so perhaps $220 is the going rate. Total of $300 with the shampoo and tip. When I made the appointment I was told "$150 and up" for the cost so I do think the increase should have been addressed before I was at the front to pay at the end. My husband and I went in for a couples massage and the massage alone was pretty great for the both of us. We both felt very relaxed by the end of it. I think there were some things about the spa in general that I didn't really like too much. I should've paid attention at the fact that it was also a hair salon so going into the building itself has a blend of smells that to me weren't pleasant. I'm used to the aromatherapy so that's why I expected that at a spa. I figured the rooms themselves would have it but they didn't. So that was disappointing. Another thing I'm used to is to having a towel over my eyes when I flip over on the massage table which wasn't provided for my husband or myself. That was a bit awkward for me. And lastly I have no idea what oils they used or cream to massage but yall my husband and I got a massive headache right after we left. I scheduled an hour massage at Pura Vida. I was so pleased when they had a same day appointment. However, the massage was terrible. I asked for her to work from my shoulders to hips, focusing mainly on my left shoulder and neck. She started with my legs and feet. I didn't want that at all. I understand it was a Swedish massage, but there was zero pressure. After she flipped me over to once again work on my legs and feet, she started on my shoulder. The problem was...she only worked on my right shoulder. I reminded her 3 times that it was my left shoulder causing me so much pain and she never got to it. That was my whole reason for going and so it was a complete waste of money. I'm leaving with less money, time I can't get back, and a shoulder that hurts just as much as when I came. I was in the Waco area today and decided on a facial since I noticed I broke out over night. I get facials here and there when my lady isnt available and I usually end up regretting it, because I feel I don't get all the extractions that I hope they'd get. BUT, this was actually one of them times that I dont regret trying. Rhonda was able to soothe me to sleep with a relaxing massage, then extracted while I was asleep, lol! She was gentle, but very affective on extracting all where necessary. It was very well organized in every aspect and not rushed at all. Unfortunately this is the first negative review I've ever had to write. I went in for the signature hydrafacial. I had been to the sister salon, Pura Vida Elite before, but this was my first time at this location. The room was very small, the size of a closet, with oddities scattered about as you can see in the photos. The floor needed to be mopped and room dusted, the bed was a squeaky cot with little padding, and the blanket I was asked to get under seemed out of place in a professional spa setting. Seeing that the room and cleanliness was below expectations, I thought about leaving, but decided to stay through it. The technician did a good job on the actual procedure. However she did not ask what my skin concerns or goals were, which I felt would've been important to note prior to a top dollar procedure. There was no music during the service, which was odd, seeing as the spa rooms are adjacent to hair and nail salons. I like to support local businesses as much as I can, but for $150 I expect a lot better. My score is based on the overall value, ambiance, and cleanliness. read more

Great visit to Pura Vida today. Was immediately greeted by Carolyn when I walked in. She pulled my charts and walked me to the locker room. I was offered a water, coffee, or pina colada (special today)! If I weren't pregnant (getting a prenatal massage ;) ) I would have been stoked! So I asked for water, and she said she'd leave it for me in the meditation room. It wasn't there, but I guess she got sidetracked. Happens. Juliette greeted me promptly. She is a great therapist! I'm a talker, so she and I chatted it up. Strolled through the boutique shop on my way out. SUCH cute clothes! I had an appointment with Jael for a full body massage. She was great! Since I work with high school students, I told her that I'm always on my feet. She took special care of those often used areas like feet and calves. When I went to bed, my body still felt great. On the other hand, I had an appointment for a shellac manicure. Even though the nail tech was nice, I noticed that her UV device surface was dirty. Also, she didn't put any lotion or massage my hands. For $35, I expected to be pampered. I've been to other spas like San Luis in Galveston in which they do rub lotion on your hands. I was disappointed with this service and will not get this manicure at this location. However, I do like the fact that this company uses one brand of shellac product. So, I'll visit the other location, Elite, to see if the manicure is better. read more

My friend and I had a spa package for a 90 min massage, 60 min facial, and a mani/pedi. It took around 5 hrs and it was well worth the $250. I had a wonderful massage with Nan. She listened to my needs and I felt awesome once she was done. I also had a facial and mani/pedi from Jordan. The facial was good. The products smelled amazing and she cleaned, exfoliated, and moisturized me up good. My face was so bright and shiny and happy. The pedi was great. I got The Works and it had paraffin and a mask with hot towels. I almost fell asleep I was so relaxed. The mani was last and it was very relaxing and she did and awesome job shaping my nails, cutting my cuticles, and shellacing my nails. I'm going back next month when I'm in town. They also have a hair salon and a small boutique attached that has some very cute items. I would Definitely recommend if you are in town and need some relaxing. I had some time in Waco and thought I'd get a facial. Wasn't sure what to expect. The place is lovely and way bigger than it appears from outside. The prices were great (compared to Los Angeles anyway). My esthetician was very nice and gave me a good facial. I think the biggest difference for me was that you keep your clothes or robe on for treatments. I guess they are more conservative in the south, but I am use to being unclothed and in a warming blanket for facials, must be a regional difference. They have a nice little locker room/bathroom for changing. They give you water in actual class goblets. They are prompt and courteous. Overall you can't go wrong here. I was very pleased. read more

My friend and I had a spa day here for her birthday and were pretty disappointed. We had 90 minute massages scheduled. My massage therapist was nice, gave an ok massage. But she didn't get the memo that mine was 90 minutes and she stopped at 60. My pedicure was ok for the price. Nice girl. My friends massage was good but her facial was not. Plus she said when they took her upstairs to the facial room, it was strange and not too clean. I did not like the fact that you took your robe out of a locker and then went into a bathroom stall to change. Didn't even have a table. Very awkward. The staff seemed confused about a lot of things. Might need to get a front desk person to organize everything. The manager did try to contact me later that day to discuss my massage. I didn't call back but appreciated that she tried. Love the Austin Ave location. (They have two--one street apart from each other basically.) My husband and LOVED Nan, our massage therapist. We have seen her at Pura Vida many times, and even purchased a membership. However, we ended up cancelling after three months. It was actually the scheduling and front desk at the Franklin that was the reason for only three stars. Twice in the last two months, the times they gave us over the phone were 15 min off of the times they had in their system. One month they thought we showed up 15 min late, the next month 15 min early. There would also be a wait, or maybe no one at all at the reception desk. One time, checking out at the Franklin desk, two ladies looked like they were training, I walked up to check out, and they told me we'll be with you in a minute, and I had to stand there and wait 5 min before they stopped talking to each other to check out. It was just odd--I would have thought they would have paused, helped me pay and leave, and then went back to their computer work. read more

If you are getting dip polish make sure you bring your own dip, or you will be let in for a surprise. They do not have their dip polish put out on a nail to see the final finished color so you kind of have to guess what color you're getting. I thought I was getting a dark purple, however I ended up with black nails. Also it took over two hours for dip nails and pedicure, so if you're OK with being at the salon for over two hours and not knowing what color you're getting it's a great place to go. I'm going to Walmart now to get polish to paint over them because I can't be there for another hour to get them fixed and I can't go back because I won't be in Waco for another week. read more

Melissa was my massage therapist and did such an awesome job, I was so relaxed when I went to get my pedicure that I felt like I'd had a couple of drinks. The pedicure was also awesome. They did such a great job on my feet that they still look good a week later. My husband, on the other hand, wasn't too impressed with his massage. He didn't mind the pedicure as he had never had one before, but he said he probably wouldn't ever get another one. He just felt uncomfortable, but he's also someone who's not into the spa experience.
