I have lived my life with huge anxiety surrounding dental work. For years after I moved to the Valley, I still returned to my trusted dentist in NJ to avoid the trial and error of finding someone new who would listen/understand/care. This resulted in many months and sometimes years between visits, which only exacerbated the situation. The one time I attempted a dentist appointment near my home, I was so panicked in the lobby the receptionist asked if I needed the doctor to prescribe me a Xanax. Obviously I couldn't show my face there again haha. Fast forward 9 years after moving to AZ, and a coworker recommended Dr. Purcell and the wonderful team at this practice. Everything is always explained to me carefully and gently, and it feels like a family from the time you're greeted at the front desk until the time you schedule your next appointment. I am so grateful to have my "go to" dentist in Dr. Purcell, and couldn't imagine going anywhere else. read more

I would strongly discourage anyone from visiting this dental practice. There is no transparency of charges and if there is a problem the dental practice is rude and unhelpful. Here is more information: I visited Purcell dentistry after my excellent dentist of 25 years retired. Prior to an upcoming oral surgery I needed a screwed on crown taken off of an implant. My prior dentist did not charge for these types of items. I scheduled with Dr. Purcell a full appointment to become an established patient (cleaning, X-rays, exam). I had the appointment which included 5-10 minutes to remove what ended up being two screwed on crowns. After the visit the dentist billed the wrong delta dental and I received a note in the mail that said they were billing $492 to unscrew and remove the crowns. I was not notified of this charge beforehand and it seemed excessive. So I called their office. I was told that this was considered a "procedure" and billed accordingly. I asked why I was not notified of the cost of a "procedure" beforehand. This question was never answered after many attempts. I did ask that they discuss this with Dr Purcell. I was told I would receive a call the next day and no one called. Instead, I received threatening texts from the dental office staff. I was told I had a balance due and needed to pay it within two weeks or it would be sent to a collection agency. Keep in mind my office visit was only two weeks prior to this threat. read more

I am horrible with names but the Hygienist was absolutely amazing, seriously the best cleaning I have ever had in my life. It was my first and I will definitely be returning. I have pretty much been a dentist hopper the past 20 yrs. Every dentist previously has tried to sell me on anything from whole new top veneers to laser therapies and everything in between. I was having some jaw pain even and after this cleaning and the dentist not actually recommending anything absurd. I think I finally found a practice I look forward to going back to! It's been a long time since anyone has actually made me feel welcome and not just another $ sign right off the bat. Much appreciation goes out to the staff here. UPDATED: See their response below --- still no sense of issue ownership or mention that I called them 2 days ahead to make sure everything was ok. Response says sorry to hear of frustration. They knew it when I was in office and didnt take any responsibility. #NoAccountabilty. I recently had an extremely disappointing experience with the office of Purcell Family Dentistry. I chose them based on their affiliation with my new insurance, Delta Dental. Two days ahead of my appointment, to avoid any possible inconveniences, I contacted the office explaining I hadn't received my insurance card yet but had written confirmation of coverage from the broker and asked the office what I should do. I spoke with Vicki, provided all necessary details, and even offered to share documentation for validation and/or defer the appointment. Vicki assured me that attending my appointment would be no issue. However, on the day of appointment, 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment, a different associate claimed I was not insured and then went onto explain their insurance verification process. When I reiterated my prior conversation with Vicki and offered to again present my documents, she seemed disinterested and continued to repeat their process for insurance verification, speaking over me at times. To my surprise, after inquiring, I discovered Vicki was seated right next to her and all the while, appeared to act oblivious of our conversation. After a prolonged wait of almost an hour, the same associate again insisted I wasn't covered, again refusing to reach out to the broker for clarification after my explaining to them for now, a third time. Their lobby prominently displays a sign (attached) about the financial penalties they impose for patient no-shows that they don't incidentally, tell you about over the phone. When I pointed out the irony of their oversight compared to their stringent expectations from patients, the response was not only dismissive but also met with a snicker. This experience was a stark contrast to the standards they seemingly expect from their patients. The lack of responsibility, dismissal of patient provided documentation, and complete absence of any form of apology left a sour taste. It raises questions: if this is the front office's approach, what might one expect from their medical care? read more

Dr. Gatti has been my family's dentist for over 5 years and usually we are very happy with our experiences and the treatment we receive. When I was 15 about 5 years ago I got my front two teeth broken off at work and I game straight here to get some bonding out on to make two fake teeth. I was too young then to get veneers. Fast forward 5 years to about 1 week ago I came in for my appointment to get my temporary veneers put on while the permanent ones were being made. My appointment was at 7 am and it started off okay but I was not warned by Dr. Gatti before putting a huge needle in my gums. That was strange because usually they will let you know they are about to give you two shots. It was extremely startling and I would have been prepared for the pain if I knew it was happening. (Not a pleasant way to start my morning) I was completely numb and the rest of the process was fine and I now had two new teeth in. At the end of the appointment Dr. Gatti told me to be careful with hitting into the teeth. He said I could eat normal foods. I was never given a mirror to look at the finished product and was out of it so I was not thinking about it. I left to go to work still numb all over. When I was driving I looked in the mirror and I was not happy with the results at all. There was a big chip at the top of my left one where he didn't make it into the correct shape. Also they were two different sizes and whiter than my natural teeth. After the numbness wore off, I realized I was not able to bite down at all. Or chew properly and it was painful. I called them that same day and asked what they could do. The secretary told me I could come back the next morning, however I would have to take another hour off of work and drive an hour round trip AGAIN. I decided not to take more time off work and just wait 2 weeks to get the permanent veneers. After less than 10 days with the misshapen and uncomfortable things the left tooth (the one with the chip in the top) fell out!!! This was Sunday Jan 27th at around 12 pm. It was extremely painful as my natural tooth was ground down to the size of a popcorn kernel. I immediately called the dentist emergency line and left 2 voicemails. My mom also called and left a voicemail. The office opens at around 7 am on Monday so I figured they would call me 1st thing in the morning, however no one did. I had work at 7 am and had been calling since 6 am. No one answered the phone until 7:13 am and I explained what had happened. The woman did not seem very concerned and no apologies were made as to why the dentist never called me about the urgent messages. She proceeded to tell me the soonest Dr. Gatti could see me was at 8 am. Keep in mind I am already an hour late for work by that time. I took what I could get and drove 30 minutes and arrive a little before 8 am. Dr. Gatti did not greet me when he came into the room and just told me that there were neither voicemails from my mom nor myself. I was astonished and said well your voicemail box is broken then because we both left messages! I also said that this was a big inconvenience to come all the way back and that the first time he made the veneers I was never able to bite down and they were not shaped like my other teeth before. He asked why I didn't come back if I couldn't bite down and I told him I couldn't come in late to work again. Dr. Gatti was not sympathetic at all to any of this. He took the same veneer that fell out, put some bonding on it and stuck it back in place and I asked him to please seal the gap at the top because it looked strange and food could get stuck in there. He rushed through this and sat me up and sent me on my way similarly to the first time I was in. I asked if he could make sure I could bite down this time and he got some bite paper to test it. I once again, couldn't bite down I should have asked for a mirror because the first time they did not look good but I didn't. I trusted that Dr. Gatti would care to make them look somewhat presentable since I told him my trouble with the original result. I went to my car and looked at them in the mirror but this time there was now a small indent that was discolored almost as if a little chunk had been taken out. Also where Dr. Gatti filled the chip at the top of the veneer, it was a different color and very noticeable. I was disappointed to say the least but I let it go because I had to get to work. read more

I had a crown done by Dr. Gatti and started having pain right after it was complete. I went back for an adjustment and they ground the crown down so far it no longer touches the tooth above it. after this didn't help. Dr. Gatti then sent me to an Endodontist who charged me over $200 to touched the tooth with a frozen q-tip and declare the nerve good. Then after convincing them to see me one last time I explain that the pain is coming from the side of the tooth under the crown Dr. Gatti discovered that part of the root is exposed. He applied something that helps calcify the area and eventually the pain went away. Because Dr. Gatti could not find the origin of the pain I'm out over $200 and I'm left with at tooth that needs to be cleaned out with my fingernail after every meal. read more
