Friendly staff, clean and bright studio, challenging but fun! Pros: + I've done barre in the past but not Pure Barre - there was way less time standing with the medicine ball than I expected and more time spent on core exercises. I haven't worked out in a while, and appreciated that this was tough enough that I felt the burn but easy enough to follow along. + There was upbeat club type music (ie Rain on Me, some Cher, a remix of a Billie Eilish song) which I loved, but could vary by class. + Good precautions taken against COVID as an indoor exercise class. Vaccine cards or a recent test were checked on arrival, and everyone wore a mask the whole time. Not packed at all - at my 8:15 Sunday class, there were only about 5 of us in the room and we were very spaced out. To note though for those especially concerned, the door is closed the whole time and I didn't see particular notices about ventilation. Cons: - At times the movements could've been explained better for newbies. Sometimes sequences facing the mirrors made it harder to follow the instructor or tell which side of the body she was on. But then again I didn't take the fundamentals class first, and the instructor Stephanie was awesome at helping with adjustments. Tips: *Mats and equipment provided and cleaned afterwards. *Remember to bring grippy socks or be prepared to buy them (when I went, they were $16 including any tax for the sale socks which were in short supply, I think regular pairs were $18). *Street parking is easy to grab earlier in the morning right in front of the studio.

This location is brand new - opened yesterday - and is super clean. Not only shiny new clean, but the architecture and feng shui are set up to make the place feel clean, too. The front area has a check-in desk, a wall of merchandise (exercise clothes, bands, weights, water bottles, etc) for sale, a changing room, and lockers that you can add your own lock to. There's a bathroom tucked away in one corner, but in the front and center are doors to the large barre workout area. Once you enter the barre area, you see a room with mirrors on a couple walls, a wall with workout gear and the stereo, and barres on the walls with mirrors. The area is carpeted, and the ceilings are very high. There are a couple of posts that break the room up a little - while those are invasive, they're not super terrible if you position yourself at least a couple feet away from them. The instructors are perky, fit, and the primary teacher wears a headset that amplifies her voice over the thumping electronic music that they play during class. Class itself is short - about 55 minutes - intense, and has a format of focusing on one muscle group to its exhaustion (trembling and shaking are actually encouraged here) then very fast rotation through 10 to 30 second stretches that also focus on that same muscle group. There are some yoga-like poses, and some pilates-like instruction (including flattening your lower back), but the barre is pretty unique in that they also include a lot of ballet style foot positions and bends. Overall, I think that this style of workout is very appealing, due to the emphasis on protecting your lower back, building core strength, and short, fast exercises that easily fit into daily life (say, if you wanted to do this at home sometimes, too.) However, I only gave this a 3 star because the prices are just phenomenally over what feels reasonable to me. For example, a 55 minute drop in class here is over $20, and if you buy a big multi-pack, classes then drop to $20. At my favorite yoga studio, a two hour class is $20, and you get the same full body workout, with a focus on strength, sure, but ALSO on flexibility that goes way beyond what brief stretches you can cram into these short, intense workouts at Pure Barre. It's too bad, because this is a great location (right near the liquor store on 12th, lol) and the bright, new decor seems like it'd be a comfy place to work out.

Juliana is amazing. The workout is hard and fast paced but the high energy music and instructors keep you pushing. You must try it!

Ask the Community - Pure Barre

Would like to learn about how this compares to weight lifting. I would like to focus on strengthening without injury and this seems like a great class for it. Is it the pulsing movement and the small reps that builds strength and promotes toning?

How's the parking for this location? I'm coming from out of town and I'm curious if it would be easier to be dropped off my Lyft or take my rental car.

There's a lot of street parking in cap hill right in front of the studio!

When I arrived I was told to set up for class with the same equipment the instructor set out and found a cozy spot near the door. The class wasn't full (which is apparently rare) so I had plenty of room to embarrass myself. Now I'm not an out of shape person, I do cardio 3 times a week at the gym and eat very well. But Miranda's barre class kicked my entire ass (in a good way!) Afterwards I did feel sore as expected of a rigorous hour long workout, but I still felt amazing. I slept like an actual baby and woke up still feeling great. Everyone at the studio itself was very friendly and Miranda was great. The flow of the class focuses on exhausting specific parts and muscles of the body one by one so you definitely get your moneys worth for a full body work out- not that $25 for the first week is unreasonable at all! I'll definitely be back, but note to self: Be sure to stretch a bit more next time!

Three days into the COVID-19 quarantine and I'm already itching to get back into my workout…read moreroutine... which includes getting my barre on at barre3 on Rooosevelt! First off, I love the location of this studio. Super accessible for folks coming from the UW, Ravenna, Greenlake neighborhoods and super convenient for batching a workout with errands (grocery store, quick lunch, coffee to-go). Parking is also a piece of cake in this area. The facility is on the smaller side with an intimate lobby, one studio space, one bathroom, a little play area for kiddos, and some cubbies for storing belongings. Bring a lock if you care to! On an intensity scale of 0-10, with 0 being binge watching Netflix's Love Is Blind and 10 being feeling like I worked out so hard I might throw up, the classes here usually land at a 4 for me. For those who have tried Pure Barre before, barre3 is a lot more toned down and incorporates more yoga/relaxation elements in comparison. While I enjoy this on most days, I sometimes wish the exercises were more challenging and came with additional modifications to kick the workout up a notch. Another small piece of feedback I have is about socks. Out of all the barre/pilates studios I've been to, barre3 seems to be the only one that doesn't require attendees to wear socks, which I don't love... If you're gonna make me do a plank and put my hands directly on the same floor that other people's feet have walked all over, can I at least request that those tootsies not be bare? To end on a more positive note, I've always really enjoyed the instructors here! While I haven't taken class with the same person enough times to build relationships, they always bring such a calming and positive presence to the room. And great playlists, too. I'll be looking forward to my next class at barre3 when this pandemic finally comes to an end. Until then, stay safe and practice good hygiene, everyone!
