I love this place. I've seen a couple different stylists and have never had a bad experience. I love the location, off of masonboro loop rd near the veggie wagon and across from the Port City (perfect for a coffee to bring to your appointment) but what sets this place apart for me is that's it's a green salon. They use Kevin Murphy cruelty free products and the packaging is made from mostly recycled plastic. I love this. It doesn't hurt that the products themselves smell good and work like a charm. I love the atmosphere at Pure by Gloss. Comfortable and chill, without the noise and chaos you usually find at a salon. I am transitioning from brunette/ redhead to a light blonde. Kiana has been gradually lightening my hair, doing moisturizing treatments with every service to ensure my hair looks and feels great. Ive never experienced a stylist doing this before, and used to leave a salon with fried hair! Kiana explained that lightening in stages is way healthier, and will ensure my hair doesn't break as it normally would. She's so right! Still waiting for a call back from the manager in regards to my fiasco of a color & cut service on April 6th. I voiced my concern before my appointment, I only wanted to lighten my hair if the stylist was absolutely certain my hair was healthy enough to handle it, she ensured me it was. I watched as chunks of my hair broke off midshaft due to the bleaching process. I requested a collarbone length "lob" haircut and ended up with layers so short it was not possible to pull back my hair into a "half-up" style. The haircut, I'm certain, was a result of the bleach damage, she kept cutting shorter and shorter in hopes the damage would be cut off? She insisted on curling my hair before I left, I assume to mask how terrible my hair looked. Before leaving Friday night she scheduled a "re-do service" when I arrive the next day i asked that it all be colored my natural color, at least she got that right. Unfortunately I am still left with hair much shorter than I requested that is damaged beyond repair. I'll be growing it out and cutting it regularly to attempt to make my way back to healthy hair. read more

Again, I am a happy customer with Anna Lee. My highlights are super fresh! But I really wanted to RAVE on a product they sell. They sell Pravana NEVO Intense Therapy. This is the most amazing leave in conditioner. I use it on my straight hair after I style it too much but use it on my daughter's tight curls after every bath. She is only 3 years old but I have already spent countless dollars on numerous products and this is the only one that works!!! Her curls are soft and bouncy after we use this product. Her curls are no longer matted. After her bath we use this product and only 3 minutes later her hair is knot free. This product is not greasy, sticky or slimy as other curl treatments. Please, PLEASE go see Becky at Pure by Gloss in Wilmington!! I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she brought it to life and everything more that I could imagine! She is fun, vibrant, and just an all around sweet gal to chat with! I had a lot of hair to work with, and she texturized it, and got some of the weight off. Honestly, it was the BEST haircut that I've ever endured; and for that I am SO thankful!! She knows her stuff, ladies! GO SEE HER! My hair was longer, and I wanted it shorter. She pointed out right away that I have cowlicks. No one that's ever cut my hair has pointed that out. She cut it wet first, then dried it, then she cut it dry, then textured my hair. With some last finishing touches. She then styled it with some beachy waves, which I've always wanted. I just love the way they look. I will DEFINITELY be going back to see Becky!! I have mixed feelings about this place. I spent almost an entire day there getting highlights. It was very expensive and time consuming. My main goal was to get purple highlights in my hair, but I was also coving up some gray with my natural hair color and blonde highlights. The covering of the gray and blonde highlights turned out very well, but that was not my main goal or purpose. The purple highlights looked awesome when I first left the salon. I was warned that the dye was semi-permanent and that it would fade over time. In less than two weeks, the beautiful purple color had turned into a kool-aid blue/green color. I am not pleased. It looks like a home dye job. I hate the color. When I went back to the salon, I was told that I was warned that the color would fade. I think there is a big difference between fading and turning a completely different color. I spent a lot of money and time for 1 week of nicely colored hair. read more
