First pic is what I wanted, second was what they did. I'm not thrilled about my experience and have shed a tear or two over my hair the past couple weeks. I wanted like a natural balayage type highlights which I don't think this place is very skilled in (highlights I mean) and I basically feel like I just spent over 100 dollars for someone to turn all my hair brown, which I could have done myself for much cheaper. The Pinterest picture is the one I showed her. The other is what she did. Not even close. Honestly, just wanting to be done with the place I just left and didn't say a word about being unhappy but I'm literally in tears as I write this review. I went in initially for a balayage type of highlight on my dark brown hair. I showed Bailey a picture of exactly how I wanted it. I left the salon with half my hair more blonde than the other and with almost white streaky highlights it made me look like I had gray hairs( I'm 26). I told her I wasn't happy and went in a second time to get it fixed. I basically just wanted the other half of my hair to be slightly more blonde to match the other side. Just evened out so my ride side and left side match and just darken my highlights slightly. She basically dyed all my hair back to brown. She toned it so dark that you barely see highlight at all. I could have done that for $5 with a drugstore box of hair color. Again, at this point my hair is so processed I'm leaving it be but I would not suggest this place if you're looking to get highlights done. read more

Had gone to Stylist once before just for color and it was fine -- decided to get a cut and color this time, but with another stylist. I left the salon looking fine, as she styled it in a way that made this less obvious but as I started to style it at home, I realized this wasn't normal. Tried to contact the salon a few times -- just to ask for a discount. I got a color, which turned out fine, but I didn't want to pay for the cut for obvious reasons. Never heard back. So I disputed it through my credit card company, to which Stylist declined even after submitting pictures. I figured this was an isolated incident and I didn't want to leave a review and potentially harm the employees here but the poor/lack of response has prompted me to ensure that no one else has to go through this. read more

So, I came in wanting an ombré, and I called last minute due to some conflicts with a different salon. I was so glad they were about to fit me in today this was my second choice after all. Bailey was the women who did my hair, so was so sweet and we held a great conversation, but unfortunately she lacks skills, possibly experience too? I'm almost positive she was originally the receptionist (since she was the only one leaving their client to answer calls)I talked about going lighter in the future so she said she could raise the blonde a little higher to look more natural, but as you can see from the photos that was not the case. At first I was a little upset about my hair I told her it looked weird and in the moment i wasn't sure if it was just too new or it wasn't done properly, she tried to reassure me by curling it and taking a photo in better lighting and In the moment it did look cute, but once I got home I realized the mess I was left with. I really wanted to like this salon but unfortunately paying $160 + tip for this is unacceptable. I was debating calling and asking for her to fix it but I think I should of just listened to the previous review to begin with. Oh well off to Walmart I go to get some box dye. read more

I got blonde highlights put in my hair this morning by Tasha. She did an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING job. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she did exactly that. I've never gotten my hair dyed before, so I was nervous at first, but Tasha made the entire experience so comfortable. I was relaxed the entire time and she was great to talk to. I have long, layered, curly, frizzy hair, and I color the gray roots myself. I have been in Wilmington for only 14 months, and I had yet to find someone I trusted with my hair before Mike. Mike did an outstanding job using the Deva Curl method. I had been to two other Deva Curl stylists before Mike--one at Beyond Salon Basics and the other at the Sola Salon Suites--and I would say that Mike's cut was definitely the best of four cuts! The staff were all friendly and very professional. I don't usually like talking in a salon but they made me feel at ease. My hair was done in a way it wouldn't be a hassle to have on long and perfect for the dress I had. My makeup was done perfectly and framing the assets I already possessed. I chose this salon because it's close to where I work and it's the most convenient location for me however while I've stepped into the hair salon about 4-5 times now, each time I walk in I always feel awkwardly judged/stared at (even by my own hair stylist). While the ladies I've met has always been friendly and the work I've seen has been nice, there are a few experiences I've had that has bothered me. Upon walking in today after coming back to this salon a whole year later since my last appointment, I was encouraged by the nice lady there to contact the stylist that I was familiar with and so I did. I contacted a stylist who has worked with me to see if I could get an appointment at a certain date to get a quick glaze before a formal event. When she told me that she doesn't work on the date I requested, I tried to explain to her what I wanted for my hair and also proceeded to ask for her availability. She did not respond back until almost 12 hours later. I guess it didn't make sense to me that I walked in to the ACTUAL salon to make an appointment and then was told to text someone and then not get a response back after telling her what I wanted. The lady at the counter did tell me to text her in case my stylist didn't respond but by that point I just decided to move on. I ended up making an appointment at a different location and I don't think I will come back. read more

The person on the phone booked me with their newest stylist Elle. When I got to my appointment, she put me at ease right away. We talked about what I wanted and she made sure we were on the same page while she was doing my haircut. I loved the cut and have been going to her since 2016. Mike is the absolute best stylist. I'm 45, with rapidly graying, thin, curly hair. He gave me the best cut, color, highlight that I have seriously ever gotten. He even has a plan to let the grays blend with the highlights so I don't have to color my hair as much as I've been doing. He is super personable, responds quickly to texts and inquiries and I had his full attention the entire time my hair was getting done. He wasn't doing other people's hair and then rushing through mine at the same time, which many stylists do. With warm spring weather arriving, I wanted to change up my hair. I'm not from Wilmington, but while I am attending university here, I decided to take a leap and try to find a new hair stylist. I made an appointment for a Saturday afternoon and arrived a few minutes early. The studio was aesthetically pleasing, with white walls and furniture and wood accents. After 10 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start, Heather, the owner, came over and apologized profusely. She told me that they were running behind and asked me to come back in a couple hours. I understood, since dying hair does take a long time, and I could see that the stylists were dedicated to their clients. I came back around 4pm, after running some errands. My boyfriend and I were offered water and snacks, which we gladly helped ourselves to. Heather took me, herself, even though I had booked another hair stylist. I wanted to cut my long hair to shoulder length, and she did it beautifully. She made sure of what I wanted before she made a cut. On top of that, we had a really nice conversation. She styled my hair into bouncing curls and sprayed a product with this amazing scent that lingered for the rest of the day. My dry cut was a bit pricy ($30), but I paid for a quality experience. read more
