For whatever reason, I'd been having a hard time going to the bathroom. Maybe once every other day. For the record, I am an active runner, I walk my dog two hours a day, I'm not overweight, not sedentary, don't smoke or drink. I tried everything you can think of: warm lemon water with honey and ginger, warm prune juice, cold prune juice, room temperature prune juice, prunes (anywhere between 6 and 20 YES TWENTY), ginger, asparagus, apples, bananas, gummy probiotics, smooth move tea, milk of magnesia. Nothing worked except for once when I had TWO smooth move tea bags in one cup I did go quite a bit the next morning, but I really didn't want to have to rely on having two smooth move tea bags every day. So I felt a bit desperate coming to Pure Colonics for the first time, which I honestly just found on Yelp. I was nervous it wouldn't work just like all the other things that hadn't. I met with Gayatri who was so nice, calming, and easy-going. I'd had colonics before where they just leave you in the room alone to fend for yourself but this is not like that. Gayatri was with me the whole time, massaging my stomach and giving me all sorts of great advice on nutrition, diet, mental health, even finance. She gave me book recommendations, acted almost like a therapist (in a good way that was welcoming), and I left there with a bunch of good info. Obviously it's more expensive than smooth move tea, but I think it was a good bang for my buck. In the five days since my colonic, I've gone once OR TWICE (!) a day, which is crazy for me. I'm down two pounds. I feel lighter. The only thing I've changed about my diet is that I've upped my fruit intake during the early part of the day, but other than that, I think it was the colonic that got things moving again. Philomena is one of the most amazing women I've ever met. I have had 3 colonics with her so far and each one has helped me feel closer to healing. She has a lot of insight yet understands that everyone's body is different and does not impose one specific lifestyle, but instead encourages you to listen to your body's needs. She gives great suggestions, advice, and support. I have done at-home enemas before, so the process of the colonic wasn't completely foreign to me. However, these colonics have been much more effective in helping me relieve constipation. You will be given a gown to change into and you will lay on your left side to have the tube put into your rectum. You will then lay on your back while Philomena starts the water. Completely pain-free and quite soothing once you get used to the idea of what is happening. Philomena has no problem stopping if you feel uncomfortable for some reason or like you have to sit on the toilet. you know that feeling when you take an amazing poop and it feels like you completely emptied out the colon? most likely beer shits from the night before? THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER. this was my first colonic and i was a little anxious at first, but walked away so happy. Philomena is the best. she has a great personality and instantly makes you feel comfortable. she explains the process to you and then gets right down to business. there's no pain at all, just a slight pressure when the speculum is inserted but then you quickly forget that it's even there. i strongly recommend that you watch and see what is coming out. i was coming off a six day juice fast, so i knew that everything coming out is shit that had been in there for awhile. i don't even want to for how long (but let's be honest, i really really do). she also worked on me for close to the entire hour long session, which i think is different from other places that say the actual procedure only takes 30 minutes despite the hour appointment. It was my first colonic ever and I'm so happy I went to Pure Colonics. Philomena's energy is very inviting and I instantly felt comfortable and at ease with her right away. I really like her holistic approach to cleansing the colon (refraining from using pressured water) and allows the water to fill the colon naturally. We spoke for a few minutes about my issues and then began the colonic which was about 45 mins. During she fills the colon continuously and massages your stomach to get things moving. I appreciated her sense of humor, it makes talking about your bowls much easier! She also told me how much waste I had accumulated and was releasing which I was happy to hear because it's nice to know I'm getting it out! Philomena literally saved my 16 year old daughter. My daughter has always had constipation but it was fairly manageable. Over the past year she wouldn't go for over a week at a time. Of course we tried every OTC aid, including traditional and homeopathic laxatives, enemas, dietary changes, etc. She had a myriad of tests done and was diagnosed with colonic inertia. After visiting a G.I. motility specialist, he basically said we could try a drug that hasn't been used in the under 18 age group and potentially has serious side effects, or she would have to have her colon removed. After a suggestion on a G.I. motility blog to try a colonic for at least temporary relief, I found Philomena. As a traditional physician myself, I was skeptical, but we were desperate. Over the course of the year Philomena was able to provide relief, even though temporary for my daughter. I understand why babies cry when they are constipated. I have been getting colonics since I was 21 years old. I am now 48. Medical experts say there is no medical proof that they work or help. But they say the same thing about acupuncture and other alternative practices. I think that has more to do with what insurance is willing to pay for. But for me the benefits far out weigh the risks. The key is to find a safe trustworthy experienced colon therapist. Philomena is both. At one time I tried all of the colonic places in the city. There are new ones I have not tried. A few of the problems with many of them is that they push products and packages on you. Philomena does not. She is very ethical. One disclaimer I do not think colonics help at all with weight loss. I never did it for that reason. I do it to detoxify. I mean if you are loaded down with 10 pounds of poo you will lose that but if that is the case you might die of whatever causes you to be loaded with poo. Colonics remove waste not fat. I had a colonic with Philomena and I would say she is by far the most pleasant person I have had a colonic with. She does not push products and is ethical and caring. Many of the places I have tried are not trustworthy with a credit card and push products and have unclean practices. Philomena is trustworthy and experienced. Philomena is probably the safest colon therapist I have ever had. She started out doing this with the Red Cross at Ground Zero to help cleanse the first responders from those toxins at Ground Zero. Just for that alone, I like her! She can tell when your body has had too much which is why you want an experienced colon therapist. Philomena is by far the most gentle colon therapist I have had. She also lets you get up off the table whenever you want and I don't know any other colon therapist who does that. For me with colon cancer in my genetics and wondering just what happens to those toxins if they are not removed, it is scarier not to get them. The water reaches places laxatives can't and no matter how regular you are you will be surprised at the amount that comes out. The good thing about colonics is that they are more complete than laxatives and laxatives cause cancer. Colonics do not. It is just water. Philomena is so gentle I barely felt anything! I can't say that for other colon therapists. As much as I respect Dr. Oz what he says about colonics is not accurate. He said if you eat a balanced diet you should not need a colonic. I do not care who you are and even if your diet is perfect or if you do not eat and fast to cleanse yourself (because I have done that too) . Even if Dr. Oz had a colonic so much would come out that he would think they got it from an elephant. Philomena uses the safest method for colonics. The risks are primarily for the old school method which is more aggressive and does get more out but is not as safe. Philomena's method is safe and she uses disposable speculums . The reason I don't give it 5 stars is my criteria for giving 5 stars is that it is the best. I don't know that it is the best. And if I were just reviewing Philomena I would give 5 stars but there is an office and she is not the only person you deal with there. But I trust her with my poo! read more
