Every time I order hockey equipment from this business I end up receiving the wrong item. I ordered a new helmet for my son and he has been so excited to get it but when it arrived today, it was an outdated model that doesn't adjust like the one I ordered. I assume they're trying to rid themselves of their old stock but thats not what I wanted or ordered. Now I have a disappointed son without a new helmet. Im done buying anything from these guys. I have no words for the ridiculous experience with Pure Hockey. I ordered a pair of CCM Ribcor 100K Pro Senior Ice Hockey Skates- received two different skates. Pure Hockey would not send out a correct pair until they received the skates back, I'm assuming they believe that I would have a desire to keep mismatched skates. My options were purchase another pair for a grand or wait a few weeks- bought a second pair. The second pair arrived today- completely used. I don't mean tried on in the store- right from someone's foot into the box to be shipped. Pure Hockey should be embarrassed by their operations. read more

I have returned multiple times since my previous review and they seem to have taken my feedback to heart (I was actually contacted by them on Yelp and they let me know that changes would be made) and I can now proudly say that their service is significantly better. I was there just a few weeks ago to buy a new pair of heat-fitted hockey skates and they were able to answer all of my questions and fit me with the proper skates - At no point was I rushed in the proces and everything went smoothly. I was also discouraged from spending more and instead they found a more affordable, better skate that fit my needs better. I will be back in the future, this place is great. read more

APPLIES TO THE SKATE SHARPENING NOT THE MERCHANDISE: I went there Friday 11/11/11....dropped my skates off to get sharpened.... i then went to grab a stick and new laces.... by the time i got back to the coutner the skates were done and ready to be picked up which seemed odd..... total time spent in the store was 5 minutes... i should have never left... this was the WORST sharpening i have EVER had in the 25+ years i've been skating.... Pure Hockey has a great selection and it's easy to get there by bus (several to the red and orange line, or express bus to downtown boston). The hours are good (open late enough to stop in after work), prices seem fine, and I can find what I need pretty quickly. Unfortunately, Pure Hockey falls short on customer service. I suppose that for an experienced hockey player looking for a specific item it's perfect. But for a novice player with little equipment knowledge (myself), I expect the staff of a hockey shop to be knowledgeable and eager to help. The employees seem to know about the equipment they sell but are very reluctant to say anything. On one visit I had to nearly beat an explanation out of the poor guy who looked as if he'd rather not be bothered. He even silently watched me try on a youth-size pad by mistake, without bothering to suggest an adult size until I realized my mistake; his grumpy response: "oh yeah, well that's a youth size". I'd recommend Pure Hockey only for their selection, but if you need any actual assistance, try Sports Etc in Arlington Heights. read more

I've never left a bad review in my life but this one is worth it. I enter the store with skates in hand. There are no customers in the store, and three employees manning the front. The skate sharpening area is in the back of the store, so I walk to the back without being greeted which is fine. I'm tired, in a bit of a rush, and pretty surprised when no one is manning the sharpening area since you would assume one of the 3 employees would have said something to me as I entered since I clearly was there for something skate related. I walk back to the front of the store and ask if someone could help me. I was literally rudely interrupted mid sentence by the woman working at the front saying she would be there in a second. I wait patiently for her to come back. After she is done sharpening, I am standing near the sticks which is literally halfway between the registers and the sharpening area. I am still the only one in the store, and it's almost closing time, she walks right past me and says I am all set. Oh great, where are my skates? Oh they are still sitting in the skate sharpening window where you drop them off. You couldn't just bring them over with you? In short, horrible service, won't return. read more

I've always thought they were a little expensive but what happened today takes the cake! I went in to buy a stick and noticed the price went up by $11 from last year... Why? Because of a promotion they were running. "Buy one, get one at 50% off". So they raised the price to make up for the promotion. I would have bought gloves as well but I'll spend my money at a different shop that doesn't rip off their customers. Way to go Pure Hockey! You just lost at least one customer! Never again. With Sports Authority going out of business - you would think customer appreciation would be on the rise in sports retail. Maybe not. Similar to another reviewer - I walked in with a bag of hockey equipment (skates & gloves) - obviously looking for help - and was the ONLY person in the store - granted it was a Tuesday at lunchtime. The manager walks away from the counter as I'm approaching and then turns around: "may I help you with something". Hmmm - I just walked into an empty hockey equipment store with hockey equipment and approached the counter, "What the xxxx do you think?" - "No, I'm all set". Of course I need help with something. Just a poor introduction. I have choices and I'd rather go somewhere that appreciates your visit and business. The website looked great - lots of variety and pricing. The store was another story - barely anything my son's size and everything high end. I got my son's skate's sharpened (I hope they were done well after reading the other reviews) and went on my way. Never again. It's too bad as I had high hopes and two more hockey players coming up in my family. read more

Nice staff and selection, but since they have switched to machines doing the skate sharpening they suck, I do not recommend getting your skates sharpened here, plenty of times I've had them mess up my skates or barely do anything to them. read more

Great staff! Amazing set up. Located closw to many rinks and adequately stocked with equipment for all fits and levels of play. Easy to locate a peoduct I need to find, and if I can't, the staff is knowledgeable and easily accesible to help my needs. I'm glad I popped in; I will be back. Excellent service- after Hockey Monkey took 30 minutes to sharpen a pair of Bauer S190s- and in the process of sharpening they burnt the blade and destroyed the flat bottom v ... Pure Hockey Medfod to the rescue - they took one look at the blade and said "no wonder your kid couldn't skate" - they completely redid the blades. The guy who did the sharpening was the best! There was a mix up in delivery of my hockey socks with my new stick. I contacted pure hockey and they indicated the socks were shipped with the stick in the stick box. By the time I contacted the box was already recycled. They didn't question anything and set me two pairs of socks. They easily could have said I lost them. Awesome customer service. read more

The inventory is Ok, you can get some pretty good deals with sticks, and they'll cut them down for you. It's close to my house and there is parking. Used to come here a few years ago and started coming back within the past 6 months when i started playing ice hockey again. The service expereince is much like everyone says, my last trip i went in to get my skates sharpened (only becuase skaters edge is closed for the summer). I was very weary given the other poor reviews (who are unfortuantely right). Walked in with 3 employees sitting and chatting, no one in the store. Waited a few moments before they stopped talking and finally asked if i needed help. I said I needed my skates sharpened and was told to put them in the window in the back. No one was manning that section, so took another few minutes for one of the employees to finish thier conversation and come back to help me. When we went to check out, again they are all sitting chatting, and not paying attention to me at all. Finally one of the employees asked thier co-worker if they were going to help check me out or not (great teamwork!) The service sucks, the inventory OK, the sharpening skills are horrid. They made my dull skates worse somehow. I'll come back for sticks, but they won't touch my skates ever again. read more

We went in to buy my son a stick. There was noone in the store except staff and noone would come and help us. Then we asked them to cut the stick for us and help us tape it and they wouldn't do it. Not a great experience. But they did have a lot of stuff. read more

DO NOT GET YOUR SKATES SHARPENED HERE. I stepped on the ice and had no inside edge on my left skate. One of my teammates had issues with his skates he had done here, as well. This isn't a Pure Goalie location, so I wouldn't drop their rating for it, but they had a really terrible selection of goalie stuff. I would at least expect a decent selection of sticks, but even that was lackluster and overpriced. read more

If you are looking for any type of hockey or lacrosse equipment this store carries it or will order it for you. I went down looking for some mini hockey sticks used for knee hockey. They only had righties for the Vancouver Canucks. MEH! But the guy told me a shipment should be in the beginning of May. I will be back!!! read more

I love this place. I head over there from another town just for the simple reason they are always very helpful and kind. Most recently bought new skates for my kiddo there. Andy (the manager) is always very helpful and really seems to enjoy helping you get the right thing. And he talks to you and gets to know what how you play and also throws in some helpful tips on how to tie and untie the skates. Skate sharpening is always great and done quickly. Plus they have a point system, so you earn points to cash dollar amount. Helpful when hockey is an expensive sport. Most thankful hockey mom here. read more

I have shopped here numerous times, it is the closest hockey store to our house and we have 3 players so stops can be frequent. I've never cared for the customer service level but have tolerated it for convenience sake. I recenlty broke a skate blade, the 2nd time in 3 months and I had not skated with them much since the last break. At the register they forced me to buy two blades, saying they now only sell them in pairs. I literally had not sharpened them since the other blade had broken and did not see the sense in replacing a brand new blade on the other side. They had already replaced the blade before telling me this, otherwise I would have refused and gone elsewhere. The managers solution was to tell me bring it back and they will replace it but he had to charge me for two. Not the answer I was looking for. Getting that answer was a hassle and clearly he did not want to deal with the issue. I will now drive out of my way to avoid this treatment. read more

i just returned from the pure hockey 20% off sale in norwalk ct. I intended to buy my son $800 apx skates (w/20% discount) and some other items that would have been over $1100 of revenue for Pure hockey. Being the summer, my son did not have socks to try the skates on. The store refused to provide him with a pair of "try on socks" so that the fit would be proper. I immediately called Blue Line in Darien, Ct. and they agreed to sell me the skates with the 20% discount. I went over there and they had a box full of "try on" socks sitting next to where people try on skates (as does every other shoe, skate or ski boot store in the u.s. and canada). what bone heads. lose immediate sales and piss off a good customer (anyone who buys there 11 year old apx skates is as good a hockey equipment customer as there is) over try on socks. read more

Had my skates sharpened tonight before I played. the man that sharpened them did a fantastic job. I skated on them and was able to make turns I would normally lose my edge on. Its rare to get a good sharpen and you appreciate it when you do! read more

Don't get your skates sharpened here! They don't know what they are doing, the hollow for my radius ( which I get at a 1/2 inch or 7/16th inch) was uneven and lead to an inability to use my outside edge and thus limited pivoting and transitioning. Don't do it! read more

Great selection but prices are cheaper elsewhere. Staff seems be be apathetic and lacking any personality. Sometimes I feel I am being an imposition rather than a paying customer. I will NEVER get my skates sharpened there ever again. Very inconsistent grinds and poor quality sharpening. I wonder if they even train their staff properly and quality check their work. Find a good sharpener and stick with them. I recommend Hollow's Edge in Weymouth. Overall, I use the Pure Hockey store for fittings and buy elsewhere. read more

I need to post this today because I has the best experience with your manager Andy yesterday while visiting Pure Hockey! I have had great customer service from Andy in the past but he really went above and beyond yesterday for my son. We went in with a roller blade issue, the wheels weren't turning, and my son, during the off ice hockey season is a big street hockey player. Andy explained how to remove each wheel and take out the bearings, use WD40 to clean, etc, etc. Well, instead of continuing to explain the process, Andy took my son and showed him, hands on, how to do the process of cleaning the wheels!!! Talk about above and beyond customer service! Andy is always helpful, friendly and kind to the customers at Pure Hockey. You are lucky to have him! read more

Great place for skate sharpening. There is a guy named Ben who really takes the time to make the edges perfect. I recently had my skates sharpened by him after they had been sharpened less well elsewhere. He nailed it!! Perfect radius, perfectly equal on inside and outside edge. Would expect the rest of the staff to be as meticulous. As for Ben, I'd recommend him to sharpen or repair anyone's skates. read more

Not sure why the complaining about the service; my husband and I have four kids who've played hockey and we've always had a great experience with the staff. I will say I have seen customers approach the staff with a demanding, condescending attitude which of course doesn't set well with young people (not saying you people did that).
