When I was referred by an acquaintance I had been in serious back pain for almost a year. I had seen many doctors, pain management, neurosurgeons massage therapists, chiropractors, physical therapists and I had xrays and MRIs. I was never treated by any chiropractor before but decided to go to one when 2 weeks ago I started to have excruciating pain on one side of my head. It was a shooting pain like someone is stabbing me with some ice pick or a thick needle. Dr. Liss is amazing. I have been having problems with my calves and neck and didn't really know who to go to for help. My wife is a professor of nursing who has been seeing Dr. Liss for quite some time. She spoke very highly of him and suggested I go to see him. I'm certainly glad I did. Despite the fact that I had nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Liss at Pure Precision, I held back giving his services 5 stars until I was convinced that his treatments for my migraines (and dystonia) could provide me long lasting results for the daily, intractable migraines that plagued me for more than 35 years. After seeing him for 9 months, I am now totally convinced. I became completely disabled in 2003. The only effective treatment for me was 400 units of Botox injections (40+ shots!) every 3 months by my neurologist. Instead I see this ART provider every 7 to 10 days and I perform daily neck stretches that he taught me to perform daily. Wow! Previously I had tried every migraine treatment under the sun. Who would have thought that his hands-on muscle manipulation periodically and my own 7 minutes a day could replace Botox or Emergency Room pain injections? Not I, not in a million years. No longer need I worry about the long term effects of Botox (botulism/rat poison in a bottle) inserted so close to my brain and would cost me in the long run But desperation to try anything that held the promise of giving me a quality life style to be pragmatic and desperate to use whatever the long term harm, in order to enjoy short time results. Several people I trust have advocated for Active Release Technique over the years. Now I know why. An old injury keeps me looking for ways to manage pain. Lots of things help, especially when used in combination. At this point, I gave Dr. Liss a try after a good recommendation. Wow! After a thorough assessment, he began to figure out what I had suspected for a very long time. My issues was tense muscles rather than bones requiring adjustment. Or better yet, it takes both forms in order to heal. Bone manipulation by itself is not effective in my case. I am now improving quickly and learning how to treat myself with effective stretching. This review is mostly from my boyfriend's POV, as he is the one being treated at Dr. Liss' office. We attended the Mission Viejo street fair on Fourth of July and I signed up for a free mini-massage. My boyfriend ended up consulting with Dr. Liss at that point in regards to his costochondritis and muscle pains. After 3 months of treatment, my boyfriend feels exponentially better! His muscle pains have lessened. We are now moving and will have to find another chiro who performs ACT. I've been seeing Dr. Liss since early 2014 when I injured my wrist from a fall. There were no fractures, but I had a difficult time moving my right wrist. I visited his office 2 times a week for about a month and I felt that my wrist had fully recovered. I had a long-term foot injury that I had addressed by Dr. Liss as well. With a combination of ART and a new shoe insole, I was able to start hiking and walking for periods longer than 30 minutes without any foot pain. I frequent Dr. Liss' office about one a month now mainly for a "monthly maintenance." My office visits would last between 15-30 minutes. It worked with my schedule because I could just pop in and out as I was heading home from work. What I appreciated were the exercises that I could do at home or at the office to help with my injury and minimize the need visit his office. My work schedule has me traveling and there were times where my flight didn't make it into JWA for my appointment.
