Decided to book a doubles/couples massage just to distress. I've had ONE massage before at a place like Massage Envy, but the masseuse was a little too harsh. I asked for deep tissue, but it felt like he was kneading dough. Made an appointment for this place a couple weeks ahead since my visit was around Labor Day and they were very helpful. Reserved the Hot-Stone massage and decided on the classic anti stress. To make things short, I fell asleep. Would definitely come back. They got every part of my body relaxed. Even during COVID, the safety protocols made me feel comfortable enough to visit. My favorite part of the massage was the part where they massaged my scalp as well. I read the reviews on Yelp and decided to spend my birthday here. I got the Re-Balancing Package and added on a mini-facial. The total was $135 for about 3 hrs in the spa. That is unheard of!! Anyhoo, the staff was very accommodating and asked me 3 times during my stay if I wanted refreshments. The ginger tea was a little bitter for my taste and the water was warm,but it's the thought that counts. My scrub was a little intense but left my skin feeling so supple and smooth. The massage was relaxing and made me fall asleep, the foot reflexology was TO DIE FOR and the facial was okay. I had a couple's massage at Pure Qi, and it was everything I had hoped for. I went to other Qi Gong massage studios in the Greenpoint area, but the ambiance left something to be desired. Pure Qi is affordable, but not at the cost of a relaxing and professional experience. The rooms are private, and beautifully decorated. The massage providers are clearly experienced and considerate. I paid $80 for two thirty minute deep-tissue massages. The only reason I can't give Pure Qi a full five stars is because of the price negotiation at the beginning of the massage. The person at the front desk encouraged me to get deep tissue massages instead of the full back massage I asked for. He charged me an extra five dollars per person, not too bad but I wasn't sure if he was just trying to milk me for a few extra dollars. He added that he would throw in a "free bonus" of essential oils, which seemed like something that should be included anyway. read more

One of the best deep tissues massages I've ever had - and only $70 for 60 minutes. A woman who couldn't possibly weigh more than 90 pounds worked out every knot and completely got my neck and back back to where they should be. Loved it! Wow for the price, worth it! I tried the 90 pure qi massage,she really worked it! My back and neck is tension-free ,it was a tad painful during the massage but it really loosened my stressed muscles up. We go here a lot. I like that they keep notes on you. They will ask you about the notes before each massage. We do couples massages a lot. I will say personally my massages are always good, but my husband does struggle to get a true deep tissue. He says anyway. I don't usually have a problem making an appointment & they are open until ten which is another reason we go here a lot. It has become part of our date night ritual. read more

I had never been to spa before or had a massage of any sort and was nervous about the whole experience. My fears were put to rest as everyone at Pure Qi (pronounced "chi",) was highly attentive and very nice. The minute you enter the door the owners greet you and immediately get to work trying to comfort you and make you relax. Once inside you're greeted by low lighting, the pleasant smells of various water/mineral blends and some cheesy new age music. You will change your mind about the new age music once your massage begins. We got a 170 minute package including a foot massage, back scrub, and regular back massage. Each massage was thorough and not too rough. The attendants are excellent and getting those knots out of your back and making sure every part of your body is tenderized into peaceful bliss. Do yourself a favor and go here for any of their services. You deserve it. read more

So happy to have found this legit Chinese massage place - no need to schlep to Chinatown and put yourself at the mercy of questionable bodywork. I'm really not the sort of person who finds massage and spa services relaxing, but the knots in my shoulders were getting pretty unbearable. I requested for the hot stone massage as it was a particularly cold day. The regular pressure applied was pretty strong for me, and as typical massages go, I experienced some pain on the second day, but felt great from the third day onwards. So I would recommend that if you don't get massages regularly and/or don't have any serious back problems, it's probably alright to steer away from the deep tissue massage. The masseuse took care to make sure that everything was at a pleasant temperature, from the massage oil, to the hot stones, as well as the overall room space. This place is clean and peaceful, with reasonable prices, and should you find comfort in the typical Asian spa accoutrements (lucky cat figurine, crystal geodes, bamboo this and that, etc.), have no worry, it's all here. Best of all is the authentic soundtrack: soft ambient strains of sentimental piano, zen zither, chirping birdies, trickling waterfalls, and an assortment of charming MIDI compositions. On my desperate quest for relaxation, I frantically searched for a place to get a facial. Nonetheless, I found a place that actually offers facials but was booked. I opted for a massage instead & found my new go-to spot. All I can say, is that my hour with Nancy was the most stress/tension relieving experience I've ever had. It has been a very long time since we ( my boyfriend and I) got a massage so we decide to have some "us" time and enjoyed a massage. I just say, their prices are pretty awesome and they were on point with reminding us of our appointment as well calling and sending text messages to let us know that they're 10 mins behind on our appointment. Excellent service and massage quality. I went for a couple's massage recently with my girlfriend, and I got the 90-minute deep tissue. It was painful, as was to be expected, but I felt wonderful afterwards. As a regular CrossFitter and desk jockey, I had muscle pain and stiffness in my shoulders, sub-scap, and hips, and my masseuse significantly increased mobility in all three areas. I also felt incredibly content and at peace afterwards; I may start scheduling a monthly session at Pure Qi for mental and physical therapy. This place is amazing! I called and did reservations, which I think is best but you do not have to. I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and we did the facial, anti stress massage(I added the hot stones for myself) and we did the foot massage with the hot stones added in. The place is very clean and the ladies were nice and very gentle. Their techniques were very good and relaxing. They offer you water or green tea to drink after each session. We felt very refreshed and relaxed. This place will definitely be my go to every month or every other month. I plan on bringing my mother here for Mother's Day. Just make sure that for every person who is with you, they all have to tip. We had a total of 6 girls that worked on us. 2 for every session. So that was $10 each I paid them in tip. If you pay with cash you get a few dollars off. I think everyone should check this place out. read more

I saw many five star reviews about this spa place on Yelp so I decided to give it a try, after all if a place has that many good reviews means it is doing something right and good for its customers. I called them around 12 in the noon and inquired about 90 mins full body massage, thankfully they had a spot available for 7:10 PM appointment so I booked that one. The person asked for my credit card information to hold my reservation which I found was a bit strange but I gave it to him and my number to reconfirm my appointment. The person called me two hours in advance to confirm my appointment. I arrived at the spa by 7 PM, the same person on the phone was at the front desk (I believe that is the owner ) he gave me fresh pair of slippers and told me to wait on their comfortable chair which makes you fall asleep while I waited for my massage lady. It was worth it, the massage was excellent bcoz all the areas that were bothering me, that were sore/stiff/painful my neck, back and legs felt so refreshed and energized. They do keep a timer with them but that didn't matter bcoz the massage lady made sure she finished what she was doing. I've been here many times, enjoyed the massages and recommended it to many friends and clients. Recently my husband came here for a massage and after paying was questioned about the size of tip that he left (he said the massage was ok and left 10%). The man at the front desk told him he needed to leave more because the people who work there don't get paid very much. I think this is outrageous. I always tip, but it is elective. Haggling with customers about a tip because this business doesn't pay their people enough is inappropriate. Never going back again. read more

For starters, I'm baffled by the majority of these reviews (at least the five star ones) as this place compares to a spa like a porta potty compares to a bathroom. The many positive reviews are misleading at best. The only relaxation that Qi offers was provided by the practitioner I had for my hand and foot reflexology session (the foot reflexology was much better than the hand). AND, I was here midday on a Wednesday. The chair I slouched in was comfortable enough, even if the ongoing pleather "farts" (e.g. the squeeks and squelches) that the practitioner created moving about both cracked me up and annoyed me at the same time. Segway to many flip-flopped feet (of the practitioners and owners) flapping by, numerous and almost continuous/unnecessary conversations between these same individuals, rattling here, rummaging there, etc, etc, etc. I felt like I was an interloper in a very busy Asian household and I wasn't paying for that experience. I wanted the "warm and peaceful ambiance" the website promised. To be clear, this establishment is not warm (unless you consider the meddling A/C combined with the cotton towel/blanket they throw on you), not peaceful, not serene, and definitely not spiritual in any way. So ignore the lofty language on the website (and in many of these reviews): It doesn't exist. Besides the above, I was privvy to waxing and massage discussions between client/practitioner and client/owner during my 70ish minute visit. I was jolted time and again by the ridiculous doorbell and buzzer that permits entry to clients. I heard every exchange between everyone, every faucet, every plastic folding/sliding door, and every other intrusive sound that is created in this cramped and dimly lit space. The practitioners also use digital timers, so you get repetitively jolted from any tiny fragment of relaxation you can scrounge in this place by loud beeping. And, I repeat, I was here midday on a Wednesday. I should have been able to hear crickets, or at very least the sad Muzak that was played lower than every other noise in Qi. Fast forward to the end of my birthday treatment (which my partner prepaid for and, to my understanding, tipped for) and the owner had the gall to blast me out of my 1% relaxation space to shame me/argue about the tip my partner had left. WTF? Seriously??!! I was as kind as I could be and told him that I'd talk with my partner and we'd return to tip more if that was justified based on our combined experiences, but this tool was having none of that. He kept pushing me to tip more, to tip now, to call my partner (who was having a facial a few blocks away), etc, etc, etc. I ended up walking out and, given this exchange and all of the above, will never walk in this establishment ever again. To make this novel shorter, my partner did call and authorize a bigger tip after we discussed the issue (as the practitioner I had did a decent, if not memorable, job, and doesn't deserve to be punished for the idiocy of the owners and the general lacking of this business). Last but not least, I realized later that the practitioner stained both sleeves of my short sleeve polo during my hand reflexology session. I had greasy wrinkles on both of my sleeves that Zout and Wisk times two couldn't remove. SO...if you are daring enough to venture into this dump, err, "spa" for hand/arm reflexology (even after my glowing review) wear something you don't mind having stained/ruined. BOTTOM LINE: If you're looking for a relaxing spa, look elsewhere. Qi is neither relaxing nor a spa. I'm all for barebones spas that are no muss, no fuss, but this place isn't even that. There are many similar establishments in Chinatown--and here and there throughout the city and our BK burb--with better prices, better service, and better (or similar) atmospheres. Don't be misled by the high rating this establishment receives here, or the out of date Gothamist award they post on their website. Both are essentially fiction based on my experience. read more

The first time I went to Pure Qi, I went because my friend gave me a gift card. It was great. The woman who worked on me was pleasant and a very good masseuse. She was able to identify and work on trouble spots. I thought great, I found a place I could come to regularly which is affordable and close to home. The second time I went, it was a very different experience. The masseuse I had was adequate but seemed very unhappy to be there, didn't speak any English so I couldn't communicate with her, and unlike the first person I had, did not seem to be sensitive to particular muscular issues and trouble spots. At the end of massage I was pretty dissatisfied. I asked the manager if next time I came I could book original woman I had who was a much better masseuse. He said no, they would not book a particular masseuse, and could not guarantee me a particular masseuse even if I booked with her. Then, believe it or not, he said they were all the same anyway. What? Then, when I made the payment for current dissatisfying massage, he told me I was REQUIRED to pay a 20 % tip. Required. So, first experience was a 5 and then second experience was a big zero. Seemed liked manager was going out of his way to make me not want to come back. Honestly didn't mind initially that the place was a little funky, now I wonder what's up there. read more

They keep a profile of your visits and can remind you what service you had the prior time in case you forget or you did/didn't enjoy it. The service is hit or miss. The owner is emotionally unstable. He acts like he is your best friend and cares about you. He talks too much and doesn't listen to constructive criticism.We paid $500 for a VIP in cash upfront for deep tissue and we're not satisfied with level of massages. We tip high even if the massage was mediocre. We tried to be patient and understanding. He offered refund then changed his mind. Later with continued issues we asked for a refund for the remainder $100 of the package and he refused. Beware. Poor choice and I advise to check out an alternative first. read more

These women are so small, but so strong and skilled with their hands WOW!! I would like to express my absolute awe with this place! The service here is superb! Everything is done to fit the clients needs! I was organizing my best friends bachelorette party, and had gone around looking for a good Spa. I turned to Yelp for advice and saw the reviews for this place, and decided to pay it a visit. After speaking with the the pleasant staff and working out the logistics of the services that would be provided, it was without a doubt obvious that this would be the only place we could possibly go to, because they really worked with us and set us up with the best possible service scenario. There was only 6 of us, and they closed the whole space down for our party from 10 30 am till 2pm, which I felt was great and definitely shows that they are interested in pleasing their clients. As a gift to the Bride to be the girls and I got her Package F. Which was a combination of a Full Body Scrub, Anti Stress Massage, Foot Reflexology Massage, and in addition we got her a sensitive skin Facial. She was delighted from all of it and loved it so much that she started planing a future outting to this place the min she walked out. Since I am in her wedding and am currently trying to diet for the dress i m supposed to be wearing as her Bridesmaid(lol girls will be girls), so I decided to get myself some kind of a weight loss service. So I went for the Dead Sea Body wrap, which was great!! You feel very light after, and on top of it your skin feels like silk. I also got a foot reflexology massage, Which I halfway slept through, but it was amazing and very highly recommended, and as a cherry on top I got the Pure Qi Signature Massage which upped my experience to 10+ stars. I adore this place! It's quiet, small and really clean. We were greeted warmly by the wonderful gentleman who took our coats right away and offered us warm jasmine tea as we settled in. He proceeded to explain how the process would work since there was 3 of us and made sure that we were comfortable with who was going to be administering the massages (they have both female and male masseuses on staff). Since I got the package that offers 3 total services we started off with the Body Scrub (30 min) which was AWESOME! I loved it - it might be a little uncomfortable for those who have sensitive skin due to the exfoliating scrub that is used but I absolutely fell in love with it! After the scrub, we showered and moved onto the one-hour glorious full body massage. I've gotten a few massages before and nothing compared to this!! The girls hands were delicate yet strong and she applied just the right amount of pressure. I have absolutely no complaints and when that ended I woke up in the most relaxed yet deliriously euphoric state. When I thought it couldn't get any better, she proceeded with the last of the 3 services, the FOOT MASSAGE! WOW it was amazing! I'm definitely coming back for more!! P.S. This place saved my life. I was having serious foot pain and needed reflexology so I called around hoping some place would take me that afternoon. I called Pure Qi and they told me to come in right then! I got a forty minute reflexology massage and it was amazing. I felt better immediately. I went back in for a deep tissue massage which was also great! The staff is all really nice, especially the guy at the front. It's comfortable and clean and pretty fairly priced.
