I'm new to the area and was in the market for a place to get my brows done. I'm still in the market, but since I'm not a woman of extremes, I'll still give one star for every eyebrow they did an okay job on. To start, Jenna was 30 minutes late for my appointment. That isn't to say she had an appointment run over, because that happens and usually isn't the stylist's fault. Rather, she walked into the building 30 minutes after my appointment time. To her credit, I think the receptionist did her level best at approximating customer service with her sort-of apology (although it was more, "Sorry you have to wait but also the spot you booked on our website wasn't supposed to be there," than an expression of remorse). After looking at other reviews online, this appears to be a trend for them. So if you think you'll just pop in for a quick wax during your lunch break, make sure you have a very cool boss who isn't a stickler for the whole "showing up on time" thing first. I'm not sure if Jena is in training, but it sure sounded that way from how she had to be coached by a mysterious floating voice standing just off behind my head. I was not introduced to this mysterious brow waxing phantom, as her presence was never actually acknowledged to me, so I can't confirm if she was training Jenna or if she was just a spectre with a passion for waxing. It was a bit hard to make out what she was saying over the incessant sniffling of the woman repeatedly touching my face with no gloves, so I'm sure I missed some of the nuance of their relationship to each other. All in all and with respect to fairness, the eyebrows look fine. If you go here, your eyebrows will probably look fine too. read more

Went to this salon after hearing a few decent things, I am very hesitant on going to new stylists but kept an open mind. The salon is very hard to find! Good atmosphere, clean, super great receptionist. I booked an appointment with Kim for a highlight and haircut. I prefer my highlights to be icy (white) blonde not golden, she foils my head and washed my hair with an amazing scalp massage! She nailed the color I was going for... but here's where the story turns... I have long hair and didn't mind her taking a few inches off. I requested to have super textures/layered hair with a face frame. I got literally one shelf looking layer. The highlights are not consistent! 90% of the foils were 1/2 inch off my scalp some weaves and some slices. The right side of my head has huge lines from where the foils were not put to the scalp and they are super noticeable! Left side of my head is not as blonde as the right, and she FRIED my hair. I have had my hair white in the past and it has never been damaged like this. Also she is not very personable, felt like I was forcing her to talk. I didn't notice that my hair was awful until I came home and took a shower.. not thrilled and will not be back read more

Love this place. Grand Rapids is a hard place to find someone who does anything but blondes without frying your hair. I found Taylor on Instagram and she answered all of my questions online and met with me at the salon and gave me all the time I needed to get the hair I wanted. I went back four times in the last year and have left in love with my hair every time. From the pictures you can see I went through a lot of different colors and she always made sure my hairs integrity remained intact. If I came in with pictures she would recommend colors for my skin tone that were in range of the colors I wanted. Loved the haircuts and even fixed mistakes that I had made before her, *ahem* bangs. Even when short on time she was always willing to tweak anything I was uncomfortable with. I think it's important to make sure you look at the work these girls do before just going with whoever is available, not everyone is great at everything and that's okay. The salon is beautiful and unique and the staff is very friendly toward all clients. Loved hearing good responses when my hair was done. read more

Pure Salon has been around for almost 2 years and is located in the Boardwalk Condos and Apt building on Monroe. I've come here because Jackie is wonderful! I believe she is the owner and has years of experience as a hair dresser. I live out of state and will try to hold out as long as possible to come back and get my hair cut with her. She does the best blends, distributing body throughout my hair. There isn't any choppiness in my haircuts, I love that she can take the weight off of my thick hair, so I leave her salon happy and lighter! I haven't mentioned her head massages....oh my goodness...I am in a different world when she's massaging my scalp, and my neck, and my ears...yes, my ears! I ALWAYS look forward to her washing my hair because I get my scalp massage. It is divine! Jackie is awesome! She's very fun to talk to and she'll be ok with you not wanting to talk too, so she caters to whatever you'd like. The decor in the salon is majority white. The walls are white, the furniture is either white or transparent. Very modern chic in there and I love it. Clean and fresh interior and yet cozy, lofty feel to it. The price of a hair cut from Jackie will run you $50, but she does have others that work there too. But I just go with who I know and she's great! read more

I love my haircut and its been a few years and mediocre haircuts since I've been able to say that thanks to ANGELA...she's fantastic! Service: Her assistant (Kim I think her name was) gives an A-mazing head massage wash beforehand, but could do with being a bit more energetic and personable! Only suggestion: As long as you keep giving good direction in what kind of look you are trying to achieve (pictures help), she will get you there especially with the edgy razor layered look. Location: The salon can be confusing to find, it's in the Boardwalk apts. bldg. to the left when you enter main door. Overall Feedback: I knocked off 1 star because whomever answered the phone to help me with directions seemed clueless and unhelpful. I also had to wait a looong time before and a little throughout the cut, but it ended up being worth it and I will definitely get my hair cut with Angela again. read more

Have been looking endlessly for a place that does well with baby fine hair. I finally found it. I loved my cut, the color and the price!! I really adore this cute, clean and modern salon with a view of the pool courtyard. I also like that you can relax on the deck while you wait for your hair to get done processing. This salon is located in a nice area but parking was hard to find. You must park on the street with meters. I was new to salon and had Steph cut my cut. Besides the price being high lack of experience lended to the lack of quality. Ended up with lots of layers which i did not want. The cut is a bit uneven with lots of stragglers. read more

Although I live in Chicago, my husband used to live in Grand Rapids, so for several years, I went to Sheila at Pure Salon for highlights and haircuts when I was in town. Sheila is wonderful! I have loved my color and cut after every appointment. Pure Salon's prices are also very reasonable. When I recently got married in Grand Haven, Sheila (along with fellow stylist Erin and makeup artist Izzy) came to our venue and did my and 13 other ladies' hair and makeup for the day. Worst salon ever, I highly recommend not going to this salon. I went to Pure salon for a routine cut and highlight and they highlighted my hair a grayish blonde and when I got home I noticed a dark brown streak around the top of my head. Two days after getting my hair do e here my whole head pealed because they left the product on to long. They dried out my hair so bad that I had to have 4 treatments done so that it was not so dried out. When I called to let them know of my experience they wouldn't do anything. I have never had such a horrible experience - it should be hair styling 101 to not over process someone's hair to the point their head peels and dry out someone's hair like that. I would never go back to this salon, horrible experience, very inexperienced hair stylist and poor customer service. read more

I have been going to Pure for years. Before I found them I always had horrible experiences with getting my hair done cut colored it always was disappointing. I have super thick hair and no one seems to cut it right... Until I found Pure all the ladies do an exceptional job. It's a relaxing atmosphere the receptionist is so friendly. I love my stylist I won't say her name so I can keep her all to my self but she is a younger girl with tattoos I'm sure she would be willing to take on new clients ;) ....I would recommend anyone and everyone get there hair done here. It's reasonably priced as well for the amount of service you get. My husband and uncle enjoy there work as well... I have been getting blonde highlights for the summer season, but after a while your scalp just needs a change so I'm going for a darker color for the fall right now actually and I'm loving it.... read more
