I have very mixed feelings... the space is beautiful but the level of instruction is lacking. I've been to barre classes at Barre 3 and elsewhere and there is greater consistency of instruction style there than here. I've been to two different instructors and the first just didn't seem to care that much (carrying a latte and sipping it in class while walking around) and another is just saying nonsensical things that don't really resonate with us... I hope the quality of teachers improve. read more

Best yoga studio I found in NYC so far. This UWS location is so much cleaner than the UES location. This one is also less crowded and there is always a lady that cleans the bathroom, keeping it fresh all the time. The yoga rooms and sitting areas are also very quiet, spacious and serene. Exactly what you would want and expect in a proper yoga studio. The classes are also so much better compare the the others I tried in NYC. Not even equinox or humming puppy can compare as they are always crowded since they try to fit as much people as they can in one room, many times in equinox or humming puppy my neighbors finger tips or sweat would fly by and hit me during yoga moves and the bathrooms are always filthy due to the high numbers of people. Even in Pure Yoga UES, you might get a bit over crowded sometimes, but so far the UWS has been great for me, always clean, serene and lots of space to stretch, meditate and just breathe. The only downside is that it is a bit pricy and often don't offer promotions or membership discounts like the other yoga places, however if you are seeking for a fantastic yoga experience I would say it's too worth it if you are in the UWS area and don't have a yoga studio in your home. read more

The best yoga studio on the UWS by far! There's classes nearly every hour from 6:30am until 7:30pm most days and the classes span all types making it just as easy to go to a popular power yoga class as well as a chill yin class. Every instructor is absolutely incredible, with great emphasis on form and alignment. I've been practicing for 6+ years and have my teacher certification but have never felt as grounded and safe in my practice as I do at Pure. If you're looking for a studio on the UWS, stop looking and join Pure!! read more

As someone who works here and takes class, I'm fairly biased in loving it here. That being said, I'm not your typical yogi. I'm more of a weight lifter/all around workout person who dips into a yoga class to round out my overall fitness and I feel right at home here, especially as a beginner. The teachers are incredibly knowledgeable and effective communicators regarding the modifications and needs my individual body may need. They push when I need it, and allow for easing back when I need that as well. There's a community here that we're trying to build with events and things to have members not just take class together, but share in the experience of class together. read more

I'll start by saying I enjoyed the class, and the studio is stunning. So that's why I did 2 stars. I only went once to this studio and took 1 instructor, so I'm sure other classes aren't like this here. But the vibe of the class I did was extremely elitist and just not encouraging for beginners. The instructor started the class by asking if it was anyone's first yoga class. Didn't think too much of this, pretty normal question to start the class with. But then she said something along the lines of "If you're lying and this is your first class I'm going to know" which was like kind of weird but also I get that she was probably kidding. But then she referenced this at least 3-5 more times during the class. Kept saying stuff along the lines of "it's obvious if you said it wasn't your first class and it is". Felt like she was putting a negative spotlight on people just trying to do something new. It rubbed me the wrong way. Overall not the most inclusive or encouraging space if the instructors constantly "other" people who haven't tried yoga before. read more

I'm not a yogi, but if I was, this would be my regular studio. I went as someone's guest, so I don't know the prices, but they are most definitely above average for NYC (the only negative, methinks, but then again, I'm a CrossFitter, so who am I to judge prices?). Whether it's worth it is up to you. The yoga class with Isaac Peña was top-notch. This guy is kind, professional, patient, funny, and most importantly, knows his shit extremely well. Every level is welcome to his 6pm class. There were maybe a few terms I, as a novice, didn't know. I like how he's comfortable helping both beginners and experts in one class; his passion for his work shows and glows. Pure Yoga is about the whole spa experience, what with the eucalyptus towels and the Kiehl's shower products (which, I'll admit, made me feel like a new woman), so if you're either really into yoga, or you want a place to shake it all off after work, this could really be worth it for you. read more

Holy Smokes....were the first words to leave my mouth when I first arrived at the beautiful facility that is Pure Yoga. As I stepped into the space, I was immediately impressed by the luxurious atmosphere. So luxurious and tranquil, I felt my mental wellness improving even before I took the class. When I first scoured the place, I was thrilled to find complimentary items such as eucalyptic scented towels, a wide variety of toiletries and kiehl's product. Yup that's right! KIEHL'S!!! If this is what heaven feels like, then SIGN ME UP BABY. As for the workout itself, I had Deryn as a Barre instructor and boy was she tough. At the moment, you will hate yourself (and the friend who dragged you out to this class) with a burning passion. Literally and figuratively because your muscles will be burning. With every single "PULSE LADIES!" "PULSE!" "PULSE!", you will shoot your friend a "youre dead to me" look while doing a quick run over to see how the rest of the class is keeping up. But after 60 mins of pulsing, you will feel your booty grow a little perkier. Your biceps a little bulkier. And your abs a little more tightened. You will drag yourself to say Thank you to Deryn because you truly feel more enlightened and confident about your body. (Before you head downtown to devour your Egg Benedict's for brunch that is). Pure Yoga isn't the place for you to make excuses and for you to be lolly-gagging. It's for you to work your buttocks off and feel the burn. And if you're able to get through one class without stopping, (as Yelp would say it) HATS OFF TO YOU. read more

When I was in college in NYC, I joined PureYoga for a couple years as a student member. My experience at PureYoga was really influential in improving my mental well-being (and the physical of course). It didn't matter if it was a hot, humid day or a blizzard outside - upon entering the facility, the outside world just went away. The aromatic facility is high quality, sparkling clean, and calming, especially with the warm tones and dim lighting. Just being in the space got me into the meditative space and made me feel at ease. Greeting the front desk staff each visit was pleasant - I never once had a negative experience. I took a variety of classes, including a private session and a hot yoga class that was amazing in the middle of winter. I have yet to find a yoga class now that matches up to my PureYoga experience! If I'm ever living in NYC again, I would definitely consider joining the PureYoga community again! read more

Basically this is the best Yoga place in the city. Their facilities are fantastic!! Keels amenities, towels and mats are included in your membership price you don't need to carry many staffs with you to go to the yoga which is great. Besides, instructors are very wonderful. The only downside is quality of staffs at the front desk. They are not nice and helpful. The waiters in the restaurants can be nicer than them. I came here on two guest passes. I really like the space, it is so zen, beautiful, and it is like a high-end luxury resort. Pure yoga has complimentary towel service and a lot of showers, however you have to bring your own lock for the locker. I took two classes, Ashtanga 2/3 and Figure 4 Forty Five. The Ashtanga 2/3 was a lead class and the instructor had the music playing in the background. In Figure 4 Forty Five, we worked on multiple groups of muscles, I really liked the core and ab portions of it. Recently I found out Sherman Morris is back in Pure Yoga...I have taken his classes at Yogaworks and he is amazing!! Namaste. read more

Just have to throw in yet ANOTHER WARNING against this studio's customer service and cancellation policy. I joined Pure Yoga in June for their lush facilities. When I moved out of my apartment in January, I wasn't able to attend classes anymore, because the commute to any of their locations was much too far. I also had to do PT for a leg injury, and was told to stop taking yoga classes. Despite a doctor's note, a proof of address change, and a letter from my boss, they told me that I had signed a year-long contract, and would have to wait until June to cancel. This was ridiculous, but I blamed myself for not reading the small print, bit the bullet, and honored their contract. I waited from January til June, being charged $150 a month, for nothing. Mistake. When June came along, they charged me... AGAIN. What? I wrote a long detailed email to them, and told them that I had already explained every reason for cancelling -- but they said I still had to wait ANOTHER 30 days before they would actually cancel my membership. I ended up being charged for June, July, and August. Communicating with them was time consuming and upsetting. TLDR -- I lost at least $1200 to this studio, and almost took them to the Better Business Bureau. If you have any sort of transience in your life, I highly suggest finding an alternative. They have managed to bury these negative reviews specifically regarding their customer service/ cancellation absurdities, but be warned: This is a elitist corporation, not a yoga studio. They will milk you for every penny. read more

Yes, this place is a franchise and yes it is a high-end yoga studio and yes, you will get an excellent workout here. I came here with my pass from Yoga PassBook 2014. So I can't tell you how much the monthly membership is... I joined the 4:30pm Hot PowerYoga (2) with Loren Bassett. I already anticipated that it was going to be a hard class. I have never taken a class at Pure Yoga that has not kicked my ass... But, what does not kill you will only give you a tighter ass and stronger legs. I was sweating out bullets and my heart rate was definitely up 15 minutes into class. This class is no joke. Only serious yogis please. It is high intensity in a warm room, so be well hydrated and be ready to work. I really liked that Loren didn't mind going around touching sweaty bodies and adjusting poses. I have a very hard time getting into modified lizard pose and Loren helped me just a bit and I was able to reach my hand to my feet and get a really deep hamstring stretch. In fact, I can feel the effects of the stretch now while writing this review. This studio is beautiful. Quite a few rooms for different classes all running at the same time. Locker rooms are immaculate. Complimentary towels for your use. Blow dryers, mouthwash, cotton ear swabs, razors all available for your use. I would consider joining this yoga studio as it is very serious about yoga. But the dilemma is that I live downtown and it isn't always convenient for me to make it up here...and well, I have commitment issues... read more

Before I joined, I practiced yoga but never really "loved it". I stumbled upon this place a few years back... and have remained a dedicated and happy 'yogi' since... because the club has been so great. The teachers are pretty incredible, very good at remembering you and helping out if you have injuries or other concerns. Very knowledgeable. I recently had an injury (not during yoga) and they were very supportive and helpful, especially when I needed to take a temporary break from my membership. Wow, this yoga studio was everything I had expected and MORE! My friend practices at this studio regularly and was able to score me a free pass to take a class with her. Upon entering the studio I immediately felt relaxed. Pure yoga does a great job at creating an oasis in the middle of the busy city. The studio showcases a main lobby area with professional photographs of the teachers lining the walls, a large desk/sign in area, a retail shop with fitting rooms, a few yoga rooms (some hot), a barre room, lounge areas filled with pillows to make your stay comfortable and a huge, immaculate bathroom. I was really blown away with how clean the entire studio was. I constantly saw people cleaning whether it was in the bathroom or before and after a yoga class. The bathrooms have a seperate area with stalls, another area with a counter and toiletries for you to use (razors, q tips, cotton swabs, tampons, etc.), a shower area and a steam room. Towels are available for you to use and there are bins to dispose of your towel when you're done. Oh, I almost forgot to mention there are Khiels products for you to use in the bathroom! Yep, Khiels! There's the facial cream, body cream, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. There are also powerful hair dryers and vanity stations scattered throughout the locker area. Just remember to bring your own lock. The yoga rooms are well stacked with blocks (see what I did there..), yoga mats, towels and other props for you to use. I took an afternoon class with Matt. I was a little intimidated because it was a 90 minute class but Matt built in time to learn about the "OM" and workshop a few poses. He was really great, I wish I could take his class all the time. The monthly membership has a one year commitment and it rings around $165 per month. It seems like a lot but if you practice yoga a few times a week then the money is worth it. You don't ever have to worry about bringing your mat, towel, or toiletries because that is provided for you. There are a variety of classes at all levels with all knowledgeable teachers. This. Place. Is. AMAZING. I went to a free hot yoga class this morning, and it seriously blew my mind. It's so beautiful and luxurious, and I felt SO GREAT after my class! Part of the mind-blowingness was probably that it was my first time in hot yoga, but I really feel like it was a great class and a great teacher. I want to move into the locker room. It's sparkling clean, aesthetically pleasing, and stocked with everything you need (towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shaving cream, blow dryers, lotion, deodorant, q-tips....). Showering after the class was a joy. Even though it would blow a considerable chunk of my disposable income, I'm really thinking about signing up for a membership, which starts at $145/month (depends on length of membership and whether you want access to both locations). This was a truly luxurious experience, with the full locker room and showers available and spacious sitting areas before and after the class. The reception was welcoming, and provided locker locks upon request. The teacher, Natasha, was welcoming, high energy, and very polished. The class provided mats, weights, magic circles, and red rubber balls. No need to bring sneakers - you'll be barefoot. The facilities are amazing, but know going in that you will be locked into a 12-month contract. They are inflexible on this. My role at work changed since I signed up at Pure so I'm now traveling up to three weeks out of a month and it makes no sense for me to continue my membership of $150/month. When I explained this to my advisor (sales rep) at Pure, he said he could offer me 6 classes a month at $130. What a joke. In order to cancel your membership you have to move 25 miles away from the facility or have a doctor's note... It just seems contradictory to the whole philosophy of yoga to lock patrons into a binding contract. Might I also mention that this wasn't explicitly stated when I signed up, and he dodged my questions about it. I didn't just make a general inquiry - I referenced Yelp reviews about the issue and he went so far to say that said reviewers were ignorant and didn't know what they were talking about. I should know better - I work with salespeople! What will I miss about Pure? Spotless facilities, tons of lockers, and mats that are provided for you. Tried out a class today. The class was good. Good teacher, fun sequencing, kind demeanor. That being said, I've been equally inspired by teachers in a studio I go to in Harlem where I pay $5 a class. But here's the real deal. Some people may like the luxurious facilities and the heavily curated decor. That's great, if that's your thing. As for me, I'll get my curated experience the next time I go to a MUSEUM but when I go to take a yoga class I want an experience that brings me to a point of focus with my body, my sense of spirituality, and a connection to the people around me. Pure seems more focused on ambience and an almost embarrassing display of wealth and luxury than looking at why we REALLY return to our mat every day. Just food for thought. Hoooo this place is fancy! In comparison, Yogaworks looks like a tumbleweed dragging itself through the dust. OK, not really, but between NYC's two biggest yoga chains, I expected there to be more of a fair comparison. But it's clear which is the more luxurious. Yogaworks Soho (Yogaworks' largest and prettiest location in NYC) looks like a nicer, specialized yoga studio. In contrast, Pure Yoga Westside looks like a legit hotel/spa: sleek wide corridors, soaring ceilings... just a total sumptuous sprawl in the middle of the Upper West Side. What real estate prices? Like YogaWorks: - big soulless corporate chain - barre classes in addition to yoga - free towel service - plenty of showers (but with clear doors, boo) - membership-only, so no drop-in students Unlike YogaWorks: - THIS BEAUTIFUL SPACE GOTDANG - hot yoga classes available - the 3 practice rooms are a little smaller than Yogaworks Soho's 3 rooms - you can register online for classes - mats provided free of charge - no digital lockers, so bring your own lock - Yogaworks offers a free first week to newbies, but Pure has no such deal. A guy at the front desk wanted to try out a class, and they wouldn't let him without some sort of commitment - I haven't gotten repeated phone calls and emails about membership I like Yogaworks' instruction better (granted, I have very different sample sizes). The instructor for a Pure Hot Power Yoga class was okay, but went through poses too quickly even if it had been a non-heated class. In a Level 2 class, other students seemed pretty advanced and there were plenty of opportunities to get into more complicated poses if wished. Saving the best for last: A cooler to the side holds cold damp towels scented with eucalyptus oil!! This was the best thing ever - bringing the towel in to class and then chilling on the couch later with a second minty towel on my face. My version of heaven has a fridge with neatly rolled eucalpytus-scented towels, too. read more

Let me preface my review by saying that my regular yoga studio is Kula, which in terms of facilities is as far from Pure as you can get. So, when I showed up at Pure yesterday with my Yoga Passbook pass, I was blown away. Seriously, Pure is like Equinox for yoga. There are complimentary towels and mats up the wazoo, and the locker room has everything you could think of AND a sauna! Amazing. There is part of me that is conflicted about how nice Pure is, because I'm not sure yoga should be this fancy as it makes it less accessible to the regular yogi on the street. On the other hand, it was nice to be at a yoga studio where I could actually clean up properly afterwards, because while I may be a bit of hippie, I really don't want to be a dirty hippie. Now, on the class: The class was a good solid vinyasa class and my teacher (Nicole) made some nice adjustments. She was a little chatty for my taste, but the content of the class was good, and that's the most important thing. I found it challenging, but she was also very good at providing modifications for those of us who needed them. On cost: The one thing that bothers me about Pure (and prevents me from giving them a 4 star review) is that they are not transparent about how much it costs to go there. I have read in other reviews that you have to sign up for a monthly unlimited for $140, and Pure said a "Yoga Adviser" would contact me about membership. Really, I just want to look on the website and see what it costs like I do with every other yoga studio in New York City. If what I've read is true, Pure is way out of my price range, so I'll probably just go once more to use my second Yoga Passbook pass. read more

I have mixed feelings about Pure. I've been a member for 3 years and attended at both locations (East and West) which are pretty similar. Pros: Mostly excellent teachers. With the exception of Carlos, I've regretted any class of his that I happened upon, and when they have substitutes. Otherwise, the teaching staff are knowledgeable and dynamic across the board. I've tried many different classes here and have been impressed by the caliber of the teachers. The facility is beautiful. It does look a lot like 'chic-quinox', but without the sweaty gym equipment and the staff keep the changing areas and lobby in great shape. Cons: They offer no discounts or rewards for being a long-time member. In fact, they increased my membership costs over the years that I've been here. They seem to spend a lot of time and money recruiting new members and stuffing them into the studios, but don't appreciate their faithful members. Overall: I will likely stay at pure for awhile, primarily for the great teachers who bring so much to my practice. Pure, you owe a lot to your instructors! And please, improve your customer service. read more

I did a trail class (or, a few classes) here when trying to figure out what yoga studio to join in the area. Unfortunately, they don't have drop in rates (it's members only), which is what I was hoping for (so I can try more than 1-2 of their classes), but Pure Yoga was kind enough to let me try a couple. I tried the Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Hatha Yoga classes. If you've never done yoga nidra, PLEASE try it. I'm a very very anxious person and I'm completely impressed at the yogi who managed to calm my breathing and consciousness to a point where I was "asleep", but still awake. It felt very much like meditation, but honestly I haven't tried meditation other than here. I'm the person that rambles inside my own head of all the things I have to do for the rest of the day, week, month, etc, where I stress about things I have no control over, yet the yogi master was able to control my thoughts so subtly! I couldn't believe it. If I could pay a lower rate just to do yoga nidra, I totally would join this studio. The facilities are nicer than any gym or apartment I've ever stepped into. I mean, seriously guys. Huge locker room with such nice amenities. Unfortunately, it's just out of my price range (I think $160, or $140 if you're a student - per month), and if it came with an actual gym as well, I would join. However there are plenty of places (Equinox, for example) that costs that much and also have unlimited class usage. If you're a serious yogi, and can afford this place, I would highly suggest trying a class or two here. But the lack of one star is probably just the pricing, and the fact that they don't have a one or two week trial period so you can try multiple classes without making them feel like you're taking advantage each time you ask for another trial class. read more

There are a nice range of classes for those that are new. The environment feels safe. The instructors I've met thus far are always willing to share their experience and offer adjustments. Been coming to Pure Yoga since 2014, I'll be forever grateful to the teachers I've had. To name a few, Yogi Charu (no longer there), Julia Stephens (no longer there), Erica Mather (unsure if she's still there) Kay Kay Clivio (unsure if still there), Mary (unsure if still there), Dana Slamp (might still be there), Karen N. (unsure if she's still there) and a couple more. The front desk staff are generally very friendly and accommodating. High ceilings, Kiehl's, warm clean towels, always clean. The aforementioned teachers care about your growth. The only reason I took off a star was for the teachers whose names I don't know who a) do a lot of annoying woo-woo talk b) the teachers whose names I am forgetting who hold you as a captive audience and serenade you [ugh] during corpse pose. read more

Luckily, as a travelling yoga teacher myself, I had been able to get to know a couple different teachers at Pure and therefore was able to attend class complimentary as their guest. Would not recommend. I got roped into an expensive membership there for a year and found the classes to be mediocre, crowded, and the teachers to be not great. I had a couple overall bad experiences while I was a member including having a teacher yell at me because I wasn't keeping up with her pace during a 'slow flow' class. After seeing on Well&Good that the 1st class I went to Pure Yoga in the Upper West Side for their Figure 4 class. It's a barre class. I was shocked by how HUGE this place was. I mean it was massive and very zen. For NYC, it was just gigantic. The space is gorgeous. Equinox is nice but this place (owned by Equinox) is 1000000x better. The figure 4 class was tough. I thought I had taken barre classes before but those must have been for newbies because this was ridiculous. We got right into it and did lots of leg and barre work. I couldn't believe that 10 minutes into class I was already sore. The class could have held a lot more students (20+) but there were about a dozen in there. The instructor provided so many corrections for me and for everyone else. I really don't know how to tuck my pelvis in but that was fine. It was a tough class but I loved it. I was nice and sore today in areas I didn't know existed - like my forearm. Didn't love the price so much as I emailed to inquire and I got a really good deal on JUST the figure 4 classes of $230 for two months, which is the price of one month and no enrollment fee (as I'm an equinox member). Definitely tempted but I'm rarely in the Upper West Side. read more

This is a review for both Pure East and Pure West since I found them to be about the same. I was never a member at either though I seriously considered joining Pure West. I've taken three classes at Pure West and did a workshop at Pure East. I've been practicing various forms of yoga for 10 years. First, the positives. I found both studios to be clean and immaculately maintained. The instructors are great. If you are looking for a place with a ton of yoga classes with all the amenities under the sun then consider Pure East or Pure West. Unfortunately there's a corporate undercurrent at both studios. Below the surface, it's really all about the $$$ and ultimately that's what turned me off to joining. I understand that yoga studios need to make money but if you take a couple of classes at Pure, you realize it's paramount. Even though I can afford the monthly fee, I knew if I couldn't honor my year commitment that nullifying the contract would be difficult even if I had a legitimate reason (moving, etc.). For this reason, I chose not to join and I'm really happy with my decision because I've been able to try out a number of great yoga studios in the city with no one year commitment. However, I will say that you should consider joining if: 1. Pure is conveniently located for you. 2. You can afford the monthly fee. 3. You plan to stick with it for the entire year. 4. I joined Pure a few months ago after having been a member at the Equinox next door and finding myself enjoying the yoga classes the most. It's definitely pricey, but the location is very convenient for me and I was giving the same $150 bucks to the Equinox family either way. Although, warning... if you are already an Equinox member, join Pure BEFORE you quit Equinox because there was a discount on the initiation fee which I missed out on. Pure is underground (basically at the same level as the Equinox women's locker room -- you can actually see into Equinox through one of the doors), looks very modern, clean, and relaxing. They have like 20 classes a day until 8pm at night, so I have no problem finding a class to fit my schedule after work and a wonderful variety of difficulty levels. All the teachers are great although some fit my style more than others. For example, some definitely indulge in the "spiritual" aspect more than others which you may or may not care for. The staff really spoil you -- lay out mats and sometimes equipment before you even get there and wash all the mats after every use. My only complaints are that some of the classes get a little crowded and the foam blocks are getting worn (edit: they just got brand new ones so that's nice they are paying attention to the condition of the equipment). Also, this is neither a pro or con, but if you are a man and joining a yoga studio intimidates you, men probably make up about 1/4 to 1/3 of each class I'm in. read more

I love this place! I'm not a yogi and it's not just for yoga. They have a great barre program called figure 4. It has gotten so much better recently. I actually wanted to cancel my membership, but they added two cardio programs to the schedule and now I FINALLY have a well round workout routine. PXT and PXT is HIIT (high intensity interval training) you will burn roughly 450+ calories. I know this because I'm psycho and wear a heart rate monitor. Figure 4 Fierce dance cardio is fast paced and fun. Elizabeth is the best. I will say she is one of the better teachers of Fierce because she moves quickly (don't worry you can follow) so you really maximize your workout. Today I burned 441 calories!!! I went to Pure Yoga for a Figure 4 Barre class on a Sunday at 10:30am. As suggested, I arrived 15 minutes prior to the class starting where I had to fill out the first timer form. The girl at check-in told me to take a bunch of lefts and I would be either in the studio or the locker room. Based on her directions, I found my way to the locker room where I was shocked that no locks were provided. I had not brought my own lock, so I was forced to bring my belongings into the studio with me. I left my shoes in a cubby outside the studio. I must have looked out of place as the instructor, Ashleigh, immediately pegged me as a newbie. She was friendly and explained the props that we would need for the class and told me I could store my bag where all of the equipment was located. I found a spot at the barre and class soon began. What was different from most barre classes I have taken was that we began the class at the barre and then moved to the center of the room to do weights, abs, and thighs. Then we returned to the barre to finish up the class. I liked that the flow of the class varied from other barre classes I have taken and that the portion at the barre was not all in succession. Ashleigh came around the room and gave corrections to positions and did so in a way that was helpful and not critical. Overall, I was satisfied with the class and I do plan to return in the future. The Pure Yoga facility is clean and well-kept, but until they start providing locks on the lockers I cannot give it five stars. read more

Note: this is a review only on Figure 4 class. Figure 4 classes are solid. Just like other barre classes, with isometric exercise, your entire body is worked really hard/well in 60min. Instructors don't waste even a minute and they're all very good. I say this class is harder/faster than bar method, although you get more precise/detailed instruction in Bar Method classes. Figure 4 is more "pumped up" than Bar method or Core Fusion classes. General sequence: 1 - Thigh (they work this biggest muscle group first to get metabolism going) probably the worst part 2 - Shoulder, arms 3 - Abs 4 - Glutes 5 - more abs ---stretch 1hr class is fast paced, hard, fun, energizing - after the class I always feel very tired in a good way and energized, relaxed and have elevated mood. Below - cost comparison: barre classes in NYC I was looking for a barre-style class after moving to the city. In Cali, I religiously attended Bar Method Marina Del Rey and I was in love - went 5x/week, I got in pretty good shape before the wedding. Come NYC, I live in uptown and there's no way for me to go all the way down to Soho for Bar Method. Plus just to give you a perspective, a single class in LA is $22-24 compared to $35 in NYC. Monthly unlimited was approx. $175/m in LA, it's close to $400 in Bar Method Soho. It was out of my reach. At Pure Yoga, in order for you to attend Figure 4 classes, you need to pay extra on top of your regular monthly membership fee for unlimited yoga classes. But if you do, you have unlimited access to both all the yoga classes they offer + figure 4. So you can choose to attend only figure 4 classes (after all you're paying extra for that ) or you can attend any other regular yoga classes (generous # of classes) as you please. That was a selling point for me to sign up for Pure. I'm trying to do more yoga, but I also wanted an access to my fav Bar classes. Works for me. Facility/Amenity - top notch, pretty. They have towels, lounge space with magazines . All good except that they don't offer a key to the locker room - really, you have nice changing room/locker room - why not install a key so we don't have to bring our own? Ladies locker room gets busy after hot yoga class is over. But even when you can't find yourself a locker, you can sneak your bag in the class and hide it in the shelf. Super hip/trendy expensive, massive yoga classes. Great teachers and clean space but if you ask me, I prefer a more intimate studio and practice that feels more like a cozy sanctuary than a trendy spa or corporation. Take any class with Yogi Charu. He's amazing. read more

I've taken both Figure 4 and the yoga classes at Pure Yoga. First, Figure 4. I'm no stranger to barre classes. I've done them all for over 2 years now. I like Figure 4 because it gets your heart rate up more than its competitors. The "routine" is a bit different - you start with thigh work right off the top of class and then go into arm work, plank, abdominal work, thighs. There's no round back (good or bad, depends if you're a fan or not). I want to like Figure 4, but ultimately, this barre class is not my favorite. So I cancelled this part of my membership and take Core Fusion at Exhale instead. (And canceling was completely hassle free - no issues!) Okay, yoga. Freaking love this place. It costs $150 per month and they waived the sign up free (ask for Alli). Like the other reviewers have mentioned - the place smells great, is super clean, huge locker room/shower area, big classrooms, mats & props are available - it's great. I've really never taken a bad class or met an instructor I didn't like. (Not totally true, I did take a class I hated but it was my fault. I didn't read the schedule correctly and suffered through a hot power vinyassa class. Longest, sweatiest 90 minutes ever). Huge shout out to Matt Lombardo's classes. read more
