Date of visit: March 28, 2026 I am shocked and appalled that I have never posted a review of Purple Door despite all the times that I have come here. I live near Kopp's and I come here about as much as I go there even though it's not at all convenient! The variety of flavors, from old standbys like strawberry and butter pecan, to the more unusual such as strawberry hibiscus or road gravel ensure that there's a little something for everyone, and it certainly does not hurt that they make their waffle cones fresh on site. This is not a drill, people! And while I thoroughly enjoy the waffle cone smell, my heart is always set on a milkshake and Purple Door almost always comes through (there has been the occasional time that they are out of milk but thankfully that was not the case on this visit!). This time around was Salted Caramel Cookies and Cream and it was fantastic. I will say that I struggled mightily both getting the straw out of the plastic wrapper and then getting the damn thing into the lid. I ended up aborting the entire mission and just removed the top and drank it out of the cup, which was good because there was a massive chunk of cookie at the bottom that wouldn't have made up a regular straw, much less that lame excuse they were handing out that evening.

The Door County Cherry Chocolate Chunk is my favorite and I love that I can buy it at the local Sendik's. Great tasting ice cream, a variety of fun flavors to choose from, and handmade in Milwaukee, WI!

I recently visited Milwaukee for the very first time. The first thing I did when I arrived in the city was embark on an 2 hour foodie walking tour. After rambling all throughout the city, the tour came to a sweet end here at Purple Door Ice Cream. Touted by our guide as the best ice cream in the city, he definitely wasn't joking. When our group arrived there were a few others in line but the staff moved everyone along very quickly. They were very patient with each the members of our tour as we all tried multiple flavors. I know I personally sampled 4 delicious flavors before settling on a cup with The Bee's Knees - there cocktail inspired flavor with gin, lemon, honey, and juniper berries. It was super tasty, creamy, and refreshing. Highly recommend this local made ice cream treat!

Whenever we're in the area we pop in for a pint (or two - it was 2 for $12!) and/or a cone. They have a great selection of flavors, from classics like vanilla and chocolate to more adventurous options. The smell of freshly-made waffle cones greets you when you enter. There is a good amount of seating inside, and when the weather cooperates, a few seats outside, too. The staff is always helpful and happy to answer questions or provide a sample. I love that they have tasty vegan options, too. (They even sell Lactaid at the counter for those who need it and forgot!)

Love their variety of flavors- they have so many fun options including boozy ice creams! I got a pint of milk and cookies which was so good! It literally tasted like a chocolate chip cookie dunked in milk! They use local ingredients too which is super cool! Will be back to try more flavors!

Such creative flavors. Although busy and backed up, the staff remained calm and kept a steady pace to keep the flow going. Salted Carmel ice cream (with extra Carmel topping)in the fresh made waffle cone. Very great choice.

A top spot for specialty ice cream shops in Milwaukee. It's walking distance from the key points in downtown. Flavors change and are subject to availability Tried the road gravel, malted chocolate chunk, and mint chip. They didn't try to skimp on amount, so can appreciate getting my penny's worth. The ones with chips had solid chips not the kind that will easily melt away in your mouth. Their ice cream is hardy and very creamy. They have the typical classic flavors but also unique booze flavored ones. Room for improvement: Their menu and what they have on social media doesn't always match what they actually have. They could take of their seating inside a little better. One of the bar stools are loose. Would be great if tables would wiped down more frequently. It is pretty expensive for ice cream, on par with other specialty ice cream shops but man you know you are not getting a good deal.

Great ideas with different flavors! The salted caramel was almost too sweet but at least it had flavor, the one i was excited to try was the sunflower seed and honey but was left searching for flavor of any kind :( the smell of the homemade waffle cones excite you when you walk in the door-so i had to try one, it was quite good. A fun little spot the employees were super nice but wouldn't go back

This is my absolute favorite ice cream place in all of Milwaukee. Without a doubt, the only flavor I get every time is their salted caramel ice cream. It is so smooth and decadent. It's an absolute must to get it in a waffle cone, which they make fresh right in front of you at times. They also have so many other varieties of flavors, including vegan choices. You can also go to the freezers and take home pints and ice cream sandwiches if you so choose. This place is usually packed up nicely and perfect on a summer night. A must stop in Milwaukee.

Great local ice cream shop. Ice cream was creamy and had great flavors. Flavors here were really strong which was nice. Cucumber lime sorbet was very cucumber forward with punch of lime. The lemon cardamom was very strongly flavored. I went with the road gravel which was caramel ice cream with cookie pieces, peanuts and chocolate chips. It reminded me of a snickers bar. Ice cream has a great mouth feel with good flavors. Scoop sizes are quite generous and I was satisfied with a kiddie scoop. Parking is street parking which wasn't an issue on the weekend.

Paige, Naviyah, Leo, and Annie were so friendly, fast, and helpful! They didn't get mad or impatient with me for any of my questions or samplings. I got Milk & Cookies flavor in a sundae with hot fudge and caramel for about 7 bucks. It was delicious! There are a few tables to sit at outside as well. It was quite busy but nobody's in a bad mood when they're about to eat ice cream, and the line went fast!

TLDR - Purple Door is such an amazing locally and small owned business. You can get the light, floating scent of waffle cones hovering in the air as soon as you walk in. The flavor list is creative and the staff is always so delightful. I have gotten so many different scoops there and I really love their small tub of mini ice cream sandwiches They also in years past hosted a really fun flavor creation contest that even lead to the winners being permanent flavors featured and the mini scoops and helping to vote was so incredible! Salted Carmel has always been my go to but I see salted honey that I will probably do a half and half the next time I go.

I stopped by for a scoop of mint chip custard and it was creamy, rich, cool, and delicious. But - really is there no bad day for custard? No, there isn't! This place is busy all year round, and for good reason. For the custard, there is usually a flavor of the day, plus the usual favorites, vanilla and chocolate, plus a sundae and shake of the month. A sign outdoors advertises the flavor of the day and a monthly menu of each flavor of the day is available online, if you want to plan ahead for your visit. If you've not been to this Milwaukee icon, it's a must-stop; the custard is really, really good. The retail store is set up like a 50s type diner, and there are plenty of folks ready to take your order. There is no seating indoors, just a few tables for standing-only to munch and chat. However, there is outdoor seating like a mini amphitheater on cement steps, and when the weather is nice, it is not unusual to see large groups of customers sitting outside eating ice cream or other treats or burgers. The menu also includes burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, shakes, malts, floats, and sundaes, too.

I also love their rotating Flavor of the Day custard options, and they even post a three day forecast so you can plan ahead. Overall, Kopp's is a great spot for both food and dessert. This was the first time I've been in this building since it was the Grand Avenue Mall lol. I originally was going to go to Pizza Shuttle but they were not opened yet so I decided to go with a cheeseburger and fries here at Dairyland. I was told their burgers come with 2 patties which I was totally fine with. As always I went with ketchup, mustard and pickles. I didn't know until a day later I could've got was the old fashioned which is almost like the original cheeseburger but it comes with brown mustard instead of yellow. I like both mustards but I will take brown over yellow any day. I didn't really have to wait long for my order which was a plus. The burger and fries were seasoned well. The fries kind of gave you that Checker's fries vibe and I believe the same seasoning was used on the burger. The burger was nice and juice and was served on a sesame seed bun. The cheese was nice and melty and gooey too. For what I spent for the burger and fries I would pay that amount at Kopp's but that would include a shake, but because I don't spend that kind of coin for a cheeseburger meal like that it's okay. My only criticism is that they used a touch too much mustard, but the overall hot and freshness of my meal I would order from here again.
