Everytime I'm in the area of South Pointe I stop at this little shop. Super cozy and chill vibez. I usually get the Kratom tea. They come in many different flavors like lemonade, peach, raspberry and many others. I would describe the taste like an earthy tea but it's so delicious. I promise I finished my tea in 7 minutes. If you order to-go, they pack it in a styrofoam cup. I usually walk to the beach and hang in the sand with my tea. It's pretty relaxing and such a beautiful sight. Definitely come and stop by. It's a chill spot in a great location near South Pointe Beach. I've been coming here for several months now and I've noticed that most of the people who go are regulars, which goes to show the great relationship developed between customers and the business. If you like kratom and kava, they serve one of the most potent drinks I've tried in Miami. The flavor is earthy but they do a good job in masking it with different types of flavored syrups. The service is always pleasant and willing to assist. I usually order the Kangaroo Piss (KP) - despite the name it's a great option. We sat outside and had some great conversation, KP always makes me want to talk more. Definitely recommend! read more

Today was my first visit to a Kava Bar. I was walking around killing some time before my business meeting across the street. I got in there curious for the light of two candles that you can barely see from the outside (it was before sunset). I was impressed by the decoration, no one was there but me and a sweet young lady (her name is Heather and is the server) who warned me that that was a "Kava bar"...and since I had no clue about what that was I decided to stay and give it a try. I had this Kava, which I had to admit I liked it...I actually liked it a lot. The place is perfect for relaxing and the Kava is really great. Talk about cute hidden gem right in the South Pointe Park area of South Beach! A friend of mine invited me last night after leaving a yelp event in the Miami River District.... so of course we headed on over to drink some Kava and Kratum tea! The drinks are roughly $5/order so thankfully they don't break the bank!! The seating and atmosphere of this place is super chill, laid back, and extremely welcoming. I loved having casual conversation with my friends with this mouth numbing/chill vibe inducing drink! The gentlemen behind the bar recommended that we have the Komodo which is a mix of kratum and kava. We listened. Don't expect a delicious tasting drink, because it's absolutely not. Just warning you! Haha The jams playing were chill... the music complimented the vibe very well. Hip hop and vibes, all of the YES! I will be back!!! This is not my last time coming to visit for sure. I LOVE the Kangaroo Piss and a strawberry cold tea right after. Makes me get my homework done super quick (it's a great place to get work done) and I can skip my prescribed adderall dose for the day! Never was a huge fan of the Komodo, might have to give it another try. Staff are super friendly and informative, the vibe is super chill and they encourage you to setup a rewards system through the app "Clover" which has gotten me plenty of free drinks :D The staff also are very generous with giving you LARGE cups of water. I cannot say enough about this place. I was introduced to it by a dear friend that boasted the relaxing qualities of Kava. Upon walking in, I felt I was transported to another country. The place is dark, sketchy, filled with pacific/Tribal decor and had National Geographic playing on the big screen. Halfway through the Kratom, I felt the tension leave my shoulders and my stress melt away. The fog lifted off my brain and my worries didn't seem so big anymore. I was a daily customer of Purple Lotus spending about $700/month for the past 1.5yr until tonight after waiting at the bar for a tea with an empty cup for over an hour. I am grateful now to share my daily observations as a loyal patron to their business. Let's start with the basics- several customers caught hand foot and mouth disease after a customer (now banned) brought her contagious baby in. Yes, this establishment allows children at all hours in a business that serves mind altering substances. Call me crazy but is ANY bar an environment for a child, especially surrounded by people who are seemingly under the influence of other substances? Many times I have been harassed and followed by a fellow patron who was in a drug psychosis, could barely walk, would follow me inside/out, and then would "nod out" and fall asleep on the furniture outside. Never was he asked to leave nor anyone took a stance on his bizarre behavior in broad daylight which was noticed by all and a concern of many. When I brought it to the bar manager's attention I was told "he's going through something." Why at my expense? My medical alert service dog then caught fleas there when another regular patron was knowingly bringing her flea infested pet dog in, where it was allowed to freely roam untreated for several weeks. When it was brought to the bar managers attention by a Good Samaritan the bar manager accused the girl of lying because they "weren't friends" and it was never addressed or questioned. This cost me thousands in multiple fumigations of my home and car, hotel expenses while my home was being treated, vet bills, Canine medication, dry cleaning, etc. Two other pet dogs (again these are not ADA service animals) come in daily with another regular patron and exhibit extremely aggressive behavior; growling, attempting to bite my dog many times. Why are pets allowed in a food and beverage establishment? The two aggressive, untrained pets are permitted inside daily and commonly disrupt the room with loud growling, fighting, and barking. Their hours suggest they open at 1PM but in reality they open when the bartender decides to get there. This is usually between 1:15-1:30 and sometimes way past 1:30PM. 20% of the time the bar is left unattended, leaving the business and its customers completely unattended and dirty cups piling up (I wish I had pictures). Their furniture is falling apart (again I wish I had pictures) and many customers bring or have tried to bring in their own personal cup because of their concern of cleanliness. Many are loyal to Purple Lotus and look past their horrific service and lowly business ethics because they're friends with the bartenders, get free drinks for helping them with their opening duties (bringing the furniture outside), get free drinks just because, or are in the desperate need of their local Kratom or Kava fix. I have felt disrespected as a daily customer for so long and it's no wonder their other two locations only have three stars. I would strongly suggest one to stay away from Purple Lotus South Pointe unless they'd like to take the risk on being exposed to fleas, would like to be harassed by patrons seemingly under the influence of drugs, or are in the mood for the worst service in all of Miami. I am absolutely appalled by this business and deeply regret the many chances I gave Purple Lotus and my patronage in the meantime. Purple Lotus is a toxic environment for any child or healthy adult. So I'll start by saying that their product is good. I've returned solely for that. Service is terrible. I've worked in bars for over 20 years now, so when I walk into a place that isn't busy, and find myself standing at the bar without anyone acknowledging me for a good ten minutes while they talk to there bodies, I end up taking my business elsewhere. It's a shame because it's a cool spot. Ambiance is pretty chill. But what really bothers me the most about this place is that they have a hidden gratuity charge disguised as a tax. And they won't tell you this. I noticed that the tax they were charging me on my bill was way more than it should have been so I did the math and inquired with the bartender at wich point he told me it was a service charge. Super shady practice from these folks! They should be shamed. And I'm pretty sure it illegal. read more

In my opinion, this is the best Kava Bar in Miami. I've been here about three dozen times both with friends and by myself​. The guys and gals at Purple Lotus are fun to talk to, and they are always there when you need them. The quality of kava here has always been top notch, especially when compared to the other kava bars I've been to in south Florida. Also, this location is always clean, and they have a restroom in the back for customers. I've made a few friends here, and I will continue to come back. Overall, five stars! Very cool place but I got sick :( I had the kava drink and kratom drink mixed together. Lips were numb and it went away and started feeling relaxed which was cool but then started getting really dizzy and nausea took over. I was shaking for a couple hours and thought I had to throw up. I had to go to my friends house and lay down and couldn't go out for dinner. I googled kratom and Wikipedia says it is a tropical tree in the coffee family and one of its uses is a replacement for opium when opium isn't available and has been used to wean people off (that narcotic)." Kratom behaves as a -opioid receptor agonist like morphine[4] and is used in the management of chronic pain, as well as recreationally.[5] Kratom use is not detected by typical drug screening tests, but its metabolites can be detected by more specialized testing.[6][7] The pharmacological effects of kratom on humans, including its efficacy and safety, are not well-studied.[4] Adverse effects such as psychosis, convulsions, hallucinations, sweating, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, dizziness and confusion have also been reported, albeit rarely. I too had psychosis, sweating, dizziness, confusion and light hallucination when I tried to close my eyes I really started hallucinating, it was like I was in a eerie movie with all that I saw. I was shaking and thought I might have to go urgent care. I just wanted to forewarn people on the kratom drink and maybe try the kava and not this one, or maybe do it after you eat at least because I hadn't eaten when I did it. The positive effects were relaxation (initially) and my body felt good all over before it hit me hard and I got sick. After reading the other reviews, it looks like this happened to at least one other person. My friend didn't get sick so again, maybe you will be fine if you have the kratom drink on a full stomach, I think it went straight to my bloodstream. My friend wanted to take me there for the kava drink which relaxes you and had never had kratom before. Kava I researched online is the root of a plant used to produce a drink with sedative anesthetic, and entheogenic properties. Potentiation of GABAA receptor activity may underlie the anxiolytic effects of kava, while elevation of dopamine levels in the nucleus accumbens likely underlie the moderately psychotropic effects the plant can produce. So again maybe it was a combination of the two ingredients that caused my reaction. read more

This is a really cool place that I found out about about a year ago and I just want to recently again and go there every once in a while when I'm in South point and I'm looking to get some kratom him or Kava. The place is filled with a lot of locals which is always nice. The quality of their product is really good and the service was good and for me personally just didn't keep the same standard to all my tire experience there but all in all I would say is good. I would highly recommend speaking with someone who normally is the bartender his name is Ben. He's really nice and very social guy. The price is a little bit high right now as they increase the prices due to Covid which is not necessarily our fault but they do feel that that is something that is going to help them grow as a business so I understand. I do get it as a four-star is because it does offer a unique product into the Miami market but is missing a 5 star quality for me. Purple Lotus has been basically my second living room since I discovered it in 2017. Having worked in hospitality for 17 years, I was in a routine of going to the same bars, drinking too much wine, and spending time with people that weren't healthy for my anxiety or my future career in health & wellness. Purple Lotus gave me a place to be social, to stay off of alcohol, and to still have the social lubricant and anxiety relief. Kava and kratom have allowed me to heal from injuries, to get more comfortable with my sobreity, and the staff and owners of the Lotus treat their patrons as family. Like any high-volume business in Miami, there constantly needs to be maintenance on the furniture and bathroom, but that shows the loyalty of their guests. We come here not for "kratom" fix that some of the other reviews have mentioned- most of us have our own kava and kratom at home. A true gem in South Beach. When you walk in you can immediately feel the inviting atmosphere. Unlike many places in Miami, someone will more than likely strike a conversation with you just for the heck of it. It doesn't matter if you come alone or with friends, the vibe there is extremely friendly. You will undoubtedly walk away making a new friend every time you go. The bartenders are awesome. It only takes a few visits for it to start feeling like your own little version of the bar from Cheers. The Komodo is their signature drink. I highly recommend you try it. I thought one star would be too harsh, they get two stars only for the ambiance. My friend and I shared two drinks of kava, one that was supposedly "stronger" and another that's a mix. Well I ended up just feeling sleepy and my friend ended up sick. Literally all the color drained from her face and lips. She felt nausea for about 4 hours and vomited at least 3 times. It took ginger ale, spearmint gum, pepto and Dramamine to give her "some relief". I'm a nurse and even I have never seen someone's color leave their face that fast like that. Well my phone died by the time we got here, so I couldn't check in :( We came here after a beautiful beach day, with my bf and his mom, my bf said hey let's check this place out and so we did. We saw people on the beach drinking out of wooden cups with metal straws and we googled and saw that it was some kind of tea... Hmm so we came into Purple Lotus and Lo and behold there were the cups !!! So we asked the tea tender about Kava and the effects and looked at the menu and decided upon our drink. I ordered the Savu Savu it was said to be a little stronger than the regular Kava. I took a sip and I went ... bleh!!! But I kept on drinking and chasing it with water. To me it reminded me of my energy pull that got stuck in my throat and opened up and tasted quite peppery.... Eeeeh... But I kept drinking and as I drank the TV which displayed many colors made me kinda woozy, so I had to stop looking at it. My tongue was kinda numb and I wasn't feeling relaxed, but more alert. After drinking the rest we went outside and sat then decided to take a walk onto the beach. The lights and sky were very vivid and I couldn't stop smiling and laughing and talking, I think at one point I said, "follow the yellow brick road"... Anyhow... So I felt very smiley, bright, and shiny! We continued walking and everyone wearing bright colors like orange just popped and the sky was like whoa!!! And my tanned skin looked sooo nice. We were all laughing, smiling, and giggling and I felt very alert and smiley. Any lights that we came in contact were very entertaining. After a while my tummy felt woozy and I think I needed to eat. Sooo to sum it up.... Pretty cool experience, I would try again before going on the beach on a sunny day or just to feel bright and happy :) Perhaps eat something intermittently so you don't feel woozy. read more
