This place has a lot of really cool stuff! I loved opinion around. But it's full of "don't touch" signs. Yikes! Nobody even said hello or gave any indication that they noticed we were looking around. I like being left to browse, but acknowledging people is just standard manners. For a shop like this to have no character as far as personality of the shop personnel just feels bleak. I'm a great impulse buyer. I would have spent money if I didn't feel like we were unwelcome to spend our money there. Makes me assume the worst about the ownership when you've got snooty signs posted. Put things in locked cases or accept that even adults will touch your merch. I'm fully aware of how to handle things gently. No wonder this place was not busy any seemingly stuffed full of stuff that isn't being purchased by anyone. I live in Oak Harbor but don't get downtown much due to my work schedule and a general aversion to people. However, this past Saturday I decided to venture out and head down there. I know folks who sing Purple Moon's praises, so I thought, why not? I wandered in - and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not one for shops of this nature (give me a mom and pop bookstore any day!), but there's something appealing about Purple Moon - it's highly eclectic, with a staff to match. It exudes the kind of vibe one might expect from a gift shop in a beach community - mellow, laid back, friendly; doesn't take itself - or its customers - too seriously. The merchandise covers a wide range of things - check out their crystals; pretty cool. Handmade things, too, of varying types. Yes, the prices aren't Walmart - but you can't find this stuff at Walmart. Whether you live in Oak Harbor or one of the islands other communities, or are some Seattleite clogging up the local roads - come on by Purple Moon and say "hey." The thing I've enjoyed about this store is its hours. Most shops on Pioneer close earlier, which made Purple Moon my go-to for last-minute gifts. Not anymore, though. My family is a Christmas-family. My husband starts counting down in July. Last week at Purple Moon, I found this cute little Christmas countdown display. I bought it, thinking: this will be really fun to have out from 99 days all the way until Christmas. Then, Friday, when there were 35 days left, I realized that there was no way to display 35... which meant there were other numbers that would not work, either. My husband tried to return it. First, the lady told him, "it works. I'm sure it works." He said, "show me how." She tried. She couldn't. She told him she didn't have time to help him anymore and all sales were final. He asked when the store's owners would be in. She said: "they're never here.." Basically, then, there's no reason to sell a quality product. They depend on tourists to come in and never return, I guess. They've lost a local shopper, her family, and any tourist guests she might have, now. read more

We were visiting from out of town and drove through downtown oak harbor. After seeing the name of this store and seeing they sold crystals I was really excited to go inside, so we stopped. When we first entered, we weren't greeted. Instead the brunette behind the counter said "you need to use hand sanitizer before shopping!" Ok, no problem, but customer service still exists. We were in the store for a few more minutes and she looked down, and upon seeing my service dog, she said "pets aren't allowed and motioned to the door. He is very clearly marked as a service dog, but I said, "oh he is a service dog ". She didn't say anything after that at all- no trying to make friendly banter, no asking if we needed help, no personality. In fact, I and my husband (who was in a different part of the store) both noticed she was "watching" me. When we went to the register to ask if we could purchase from a case, she wasn't very happy to help us and instead acted like we were a bother. When we checked out, I also got no friendly service. She made me feel so unwelcome! It's a shame- I love crystals and your store was right up my alley. I was just going to give one star, but the prices were good enough to give you one for that. Please keep in mind that you may not want pets in your store and you may have had issues with fake service dogs in the past, but treat service dog teams with kindness. We get so much slack from so many places. It gets old. read more

Fun store to browse. I always walk out with a treasure. Great place to find unique gifts for the special people in your life. Gems, jewelry, home decor, soaps and candles, beachy items, dragons, specialty food, and some children's items. It can be hit or miss, with some staff friendlier than others. read more

We had been to the prior location on Memorial Day weekend and loved it! The cashier had been so knowledgeable and helpful, and still greeted every customer while helping me find the right stones and crystals, so I couldn't wait to come to the Holiday Open House this weekend at the new location. Sad to say that after my Husband and I went today we both left saying "never again! nothing like the old location." He had even gotten tired and walked out while I was waiting in line after 28 minutes in with only two others in front of us! When I paid the cashier mentioned that she wasn't sure why the owner didn't have another employee helping her as she had in the past few days knowing they had advertised a special event! I almost felt sorry for her, but also being in retail management for many years in my past, I know that this lady today should never have been out on the floor yet. She was not knowledgeable at all about crystals, or anything she was being asked by customers! There were several items with no prices so after myself and a few other customers would walk her back to show where they had gotten it from she would guess the price asking the customers if they "thought was a fair price" saying she "didn't wanna upset the owner". I had to walk back with her to double check prices on two items after she had written down wrong price on the slip ( which by the way, the person in front of me had a full slip and it took her forever to write descriptions and wrap. They need a register badly! They only use very small paper bags with no handles to put your purchase in, so the cute book I purchased for my little Grandson for Christmas didn't even get wrapped or put in a bag! They at least need a larger size to offer so customers don't have to just carry stuff out ). She also had to be shown the correct way to insert a card into the debit machine! Plus... she let a lady with a toddler on her hip walk right out after paying and not pay for the old fashioned lollipop the child was eating on so I asked her if she had paid for it and the reply was " oh I don't think we even have those kind." I pointed to the display right behind her and said "she grabbed it from there and was eating it with the wrapper still on it." There were several others waiting behind us in line and two walked out after getting tired. One would've thought that it being a holiday event they would have at least had Christmas music playing, but instead had no music on at all even though they had a huge stereo sitting out on the sales floor. There was a cookie and two small muffins by one of the tables but no drinks after advertising treats. As far as the "giveaways" mentioned in the events page they created on Facebook announcing the open house, I would've never even known about their in-store raffle had I not walked over to the end of the counter and seen some entry slips. The store is way too over crowded now! Enough so that you don't feel comfortable walking around. My husband even said they need to make it either a complete gemstone / crystal shop or just another gift boutique like every other one on the street. He said it's "just so busy/ crowded that you don't want to hang out and enjoy looking around". I agree! Overcrowded for sure ! Some of their stuff is darling but staff couldn't even keep up the pace with only a handful of customers! It's really sad because they have the best prices on crystals and stones or anywhere I've found in western Wa. Too bad the last gal don't work there anymore.... Wish I could have left a better review, especially after I was so excited to come all the way from Auburn this weekend. read more

The staff was less than friendly. I am a visitor to Oak Harbor. I came in with my service dog; who is licensed and appropriately wearing her vest. The lady at the store front gave me a hard time with bringing her in. Once I did I was then chastised for wearing my purse that is a small backpack (due to my back issues.) There is a sign that says "customers are responsible for any broken items that are caused by the customer". I feel I was accepting any responsibility should I have broken anything. With that being said I was still asked to put my purse bag behind the counter. I put my bag on my shoulder to try and appease the lady. After that interaction I tried to continue to look but by that time with this type of interaction I lost any interest to see what she had in her store. I don't need to provide any business to this small town business owner. read more

I loved this store!!!! I'm from Tacoma so while visiting coupeville to see the iconic practical magic street a local shop opener told us about purple moon! We drove out of our way for this shop and it did not disappoint!!! There was so much to see & oh my goodness the crystals!!!! I was in absolute heaven! They were greatly priced and I was so giddy over the selection. They had great customer service as I asked many questions about the crystals. Purple Moon is such a sweet little shop! They have some of the cutest accessories and novelties that you can think of. I bought a sign for my mother and something for my sister and they loved their gifts. Honestly, this store just brought me a lot of joy and they are located in one of coolest buildings that share a space with other businesses. This was our first time to this area and we even grabbed dinner at the Mexican restaurant just a few doors down. Definitely looking forward to coming back as they also have another section that sells gemstones and what not. read more

Big shout out to the employee who was super rude to us when we came in with our ice cream cups. We wanted to shop around and I had already decided to buy a couple things when we were rudely kicked out for having ice cream. Shouting "UM THERES NO ICE CREAM ALLOWED IN HERE" at us seemed aggressive. I think it would've been better handled with a "hey, unfortunately we don't allow outside food or drinks in our shop but please feel free to come back once your finished" would've been a much better approach. There's not a sign posted. The employee wasn't in the least bit friendly and their tone of voice was very upsetting. I felt like I was being chastised publicly for a rule I wasn't aware of. My boyfriend was with me and he felt the same way. 2 other patrons commented on how rude she was as well. All and all, it was not a comfortable experience. read more

I have a hard time navigating this store There is stuff everywhere without a lot of rhyme or reason It overflows into walkways. There aren't really clear aisles which I am pretty sure is a legal ADA requirement (3 feet of clearance). There are signs everywhere saying you break it you buy it (which is likely since there are no clear walkways), signs about no returns and all sales are final (which isn't great customer service) and they don't really have a professional POS system. Prices aren't always clearly marked and the sales people never really take the time to do any customer service. Overall I just don't feel welcome or comfortable there and will shop elsewhere read more

I absolutely love this shop! I'm a huge rock and crystal hound and I must say I love the variety and amount of items in this shop that are affordable even on my strict budget! I've gotten quite a few items I have fallen in love with and this shop deserves more love! The people working there have always been super friendly and I appreciate their guidelines on mask wearing! Walked in...wasn't greeted...sales lady made almost a point to ignore me . Walked through most of the store and looked at things right by her but she continued to ignore me? When I finally selected something she asked "you ready to buy that?" She was polite then but as a fellow retail worker we have to know it starts at Hello. It's a lovely shop and I appreciate your store but know that a friendly greeting makes all the difference...especially these days...as a lot of other customers have stated...the new store is over stuffed with inventory and very hard to move around in...you want to shop but the "you break it you buy it " signs are intimidating...I left after a few minutes because of this and felt very sad because this used to be my favorite store. read more

The store is cute and unique unfortunately the girl behind the counter was not very helpful. I was trying to buy a birthday gift and she just kept leaving me when I was asking to look at jewelry it's to select. I finally selected a necklace and chain but when I got home I noticed the chain was broke. I took a picture and called the store right away only to find out they would not exchange, replace, refund or give a store credit. I spent a good amount of money on this gift and feel that they could have at least tried to accommodate me in some way. The girI I spoke with was very rude and unhelpful.
