I showed at this gallery for almost a full year, and I still serve as the newsletter editor for the association. There are a few issues with this gallery: 1)The gallery is more of a boutique then an art gallery. Yes there are a lot of paintings on the walls, but the presentation makes it feel like a boutique. The walls are painted different colors (yellow, green, rust/orangy color). It looks nice, but when it comes to vewing the artwork it's very overwhelming. There are a lot of nice pieces of art, a variety of style and media, but there is so much on the walls it's hard to see any one piece individually. It feels a bit crammed. 2) The lighting is really bad, and there is no AC. This is not nessecarily the PVAA's fault. The Owners of the property (Jeved) have refused to bring this and most of their buildings in Pomona into the modern age. There are fans running in the summer, but it's just not enough. If you have the patience to look through everything, you will find a few artworks that you'd like to take home. The prices are very reasonable and there are no commisions-all the money from a sale goes to that artist. Each month there is a "monthly show" with a different theme that anyone can enter. There is a specific wall dedicated to this show. All entries are displayed (no work is rejected unless there is a technical issue-i.e. video/computer work), the winners win anything from art supplies to cash, you can enter any and all monthly shows, and the money made off of the entries goes into gallery expenses, and prizes for the student shows they host. The Association is starting to bloom. It is a non-profit dedicated to creating inexpensive and free venues for members to show their artwork. They also offer classes. It costs $20.00 a year to be a member, which includes discounts on the monthly and annual shows they produce, as well as a subscription to the newsletter. To exhibit in Gallery Soho, it is $15.00 a month, plus 5 hours a month of working the gallery.

They have paper, fabric, lace, wax seals, dies, moulds, watercolor supplies, soldering, all tools, punches, scissors, glue, and more! I bought quite a few things can't wait to use it all. Frank himself was there and greeted me, staff was helpful with all my questions. Very clean and organized. Can't wait to come back again!

Just keep in mind -- it's a no-frills experience, which means you're paying for the convenience of a very clean, well-organized studio where you can craft comfortably with friends. The space is stocked with every tool, supply, and embellishment you could possibly need for scrapbooking, card making, journaling, or any kind of paper crafting. They even run a tab for you during your crop, which is so convenient when you find last-minute items you want to buy. Location & Space The studio is located in a business park, so it's easy to miss from the street. It's upstairs, but once you walk in, it's spotless and beautifully decorated -- vintage, feminine, and upscale in style. The layout and organization make it easy to find exactly what you need without digging through clutter. Experience & Staff Frank was there during my crop, and he's genuinely kind and helpful. People come in and out regularly, and it's clear the shop carries unique and hard-to-find products that keep customers coming back. I'm also part of the Journal Club and Card Making Club, and both are very reasonably priced. Whether you're crafting solo or with friends, this place is a gem. Highly recommend attending one of their crops or just stopping by to browse -- it's an inspiring space for any paper crafter.

He can do anything with art -- fixed a wall hanging my daughter had put her name on (you'd never know it was there); added black paint to an abstract painting to cover marks left by tape when I spray painted the frame; added detail by painting a thin line of black on the inside of the frame and painting the outside black which set off the black and white picture nicely: finally, reframed and matted a certificated piece of art beautifully. First time making a pot ever and I tried it at Studio Claremont during a Sunday for an adult class…read more The teacher gave us instructions on how to make pottery items. It is your choice on how big or small you want it and how you would like to paint it as well. Just note that you should not paint the bottom of it so when they can bake it, it will be ok. Overall the session was fun and yes your hands will be a little messy from the clay but you can wash them, inside of the studio towards the back. I came with a party of four and all of us came with something unique and different. I would do this again and can't wait for my next projects. Oh yeah, you will not get it right away you have to let it stay a few days and they will leave it outside with a locker code so you can pick it up anytime after it gets baked in the oven.

I've long wanted to see this historic, artsy house, and since Maloof attended Chino schools, as did…read moremy cousin, I took my cousin for a look-see. We booked the 1.5 hour tour, which was a guided tour of the house that Maloof built and lived in until his death, and a self-guided tour of an art space, some grounds, and a wood working shop. Filled with his beautiful, handmade pieces of furniture and decor from others, this house is a real treasure to behold. Traveling from room to room, we learned Maloof's history and influences, and of those who admired his work, and learned about his dynamic wife Alfreda. (Not a word was said about Sam's second wife!) I wish I would have met Alfreda, as she sounds like she was really something! Our tour guide could have been better: I though he was boring, talked a lot about himself, and neglected to tell us certain things, like alerting us to the wall in the final room that showcased photos of prominent admirers of Maloof's work (like President Jimmy Carter), as well as the fact that he had been awarded a MacArthur Fellowship Grant. It would be fun to take a class in this environment. There was a live music performance, free for all.

It turns out the day we were there was also the same day as an open workshop. My daughter was expertly guided, with great care, to create the project of the day. She was elated. After we walked the large grounds, which included a couple homes, workshops, and gardens. The stroll through the gardens felt like we were off season, as drought conditions were impacting the foliage. We finally made a stop in the gallery, where another workshop was wrapping up. Great experience. Will be back with the kids for the next event.
