Stoutboy is a quirky little framing shop in the Claremont Village right off Indian Hill Blvd. John, the owner, does extremely professional, detailed, reasonably priced work and is a joy to visit with. His turnaround time on projects is fast and he has a fantastic eye for helping the customer choose the very best color and texture frame. In addition to excellent framing services, John has an astounding number of posters for sale, mostly of musicians. I swear we now purchase art just to have it framed by John lol. Highly recommend for your next framing order.

John is a gifted craftsman, you will not be disappointed in choosing to come to Stoutboy. He has a keen eye for what you may be looking for in framing your art or posters etc. He is fair timely and is literally the best in town, I have had 6 framing jobs for him and will continue to bring more.

Framed Oil Painting of my hounds

Awhile back I had the good fortune of winning a silent auction for TLC Pet Rescue. My bid was for a portrait of my hounds by Michelle the Painter. She really did an awesome job and painted an oil painting portrait of the duo, and then solo watercolor portraits of each hound. Because I will cherish these forever, I wanted to frame and protect the portraits, and I have not done professional framing in a long time. So Yelp, I need some help! A Yelp search revealed that Stoutboy does amazing things with frames, so I drove on over and was surprised to learn this business has been around for 30 years! It's a tiny shop tucked in the corner of a nonassuming building. I must have driven by it a million times and never noticed. John was very knowledgeable and gave me a lot of guidance in picking out matting, frames, and recommending what to put glass on and what to let breathe. Within one week, he had my masterpieces framed and ready to hang. As if it was even possible, the portraits look even more beautiful than before with the framing. I was so pleased and happy with the completed product. Now my hounds will forever be immortalized in these portraits that adorne the walls of my home! I highly recommend Stoutboy. In addition to framing, there's a lot of other cool collectible music, posters, and misc treasures in the shop.

I only get my stuff framed here - John's been at it for about 30 years and unlike some other stores, never tries to upsell for a fancier frame or several kinds of matting, but simply offers a variety of frames he think might go best, after you've said what you're thinking of to begin with. He always has good suggestions and carefully explains why he thinks one frame or another might be better, and I've seen some excellently unique custom jobs he's done. My framing jobs have always been ready when promised. Even better: it's never expensive. Harvey Mudd trusts Stoutboy to frame their jillions of awards, and if supernerds think this is where it's at, why would you argue? Besides framing, John has a great collection of rock posters and records (you can find him with these rarities at record shows around SoCal, too), and can get his hands on all sorts of stuff - which is how Jessica H. and I ended up with a WICKED AWESOME Stryper poster in our kitchen in 2001. A testament to John's excellence right there - seriously, if all business owners were as sweet and laid-back as John, the world would be an easier place to shop in.

John picked the perfect frame to go with my poster, could not be happier!

I got a poster from a concert I went to framed that had been autographed early in the show and carried around for 6 hours in 106 degree heat. It had a few dings in it but you can't even tell- John did an excellent job with it, and helped me pick the perfect frame to match the poster itself. Not only did I have my poster finished in a week, but John didn't push any extra stuff on me and seemed to generally care about helping me get the exact look I wanted for the poster. I will definitely be back next time I need something framed!

Check out the color matching on this poster from the Secret Movie Club. Awesome right?! Sorry about the glare.

I am so glad that I turned to Yelp to find a good framing shop. Stoutboy is AMAZING! John is super cool and seriously skilled. And the price? Fugetaboutit. I had used a certain big crafts store for years not really aware of their huge price mark-up (but unfortunately used to their uneven quality and unreliable scheduling). Stoutboy is a small shop where the customer definitely gets their money's worth and more. If you're within driving distance, bring your framing work here. You'll be pleased.

I walked up to the front door 3 min early to wait. They let me in a minute early unexpectedly, which was kind. My mission? To order balloons for a friend's husband's 60th birthday which is happening at another friend's house tomorrow. Rebecca helped me at the front, explaining how I choose balloons, pay for them, and then she would fill out an order form for my exact request. Latex balloons are 12 for $12. I decided I wanted the mylar ones because my friend wanted gold and silver balloons and they were shinier. I chose 1 round black one with 60 on it and silver and gold confetti design, then two gold and three silver balloons of different shapes. I'll post pictures of them when I pick them up tomorrow. I was in and out of there in 10 minutes. Rebecca was kind, patient, and helpful. I also purchased the weights to hold the balloon arrangements since the party would be outside. You can choose what color ribbon so I chose matching as opposed to white. I'm thrilled Michael's has balloons now! It's super convenient. You order ahead of time in person or online (not on the phone). Additional notes on pickup day: the balloons were ready for 1p.m. pickup as requested. Very pleased with the result. Glad I bought the weights because it ended up being breezy today so they came in handy. Thank you, Michaels! It was a welcome addition to my friend's 60th birthday party (60 guests!)
