Teays Valley Center - Floor never cleaned

Skilled nursing, but the conditions were appalling…read more After being hospitalized, we had to place our mother in this facility. The bathroom, shared with another patient, was inoperable and never repaired during her stay. The room was extremely dirty, our feet stuck to the floor from the dirt. When our mother needed assistance, as she couldn't walk or get out of bed, she would repeatedly ring for help, only to wait for up to 3-4 hours for someone to come clean her. This was particularly frustrating at night when the facility was understaffed and unable to adequately care for the patients. She was supposed to be showered twice a week and in 25 days she received only 3 showers. The only positive aspect of her stay was the quality of the food provided. The staff they had tried to provide help but were so understaffed they could not care for all the patients, Corporate needs to provide staff that is needed to care for patients properly.

My mother was recently a patient in the skilled nursing/physical therapy unit at Teays Valley…read moreCenter. The goal was for her to strengthen herself in order to return home to her beloved grand-cat. She worked with physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy (swallowing issues). This group of therapists were so helpful in teaching mom safety and strengthening exercises that have helped her return home. They were so encouraging to her and so supportive to me during her stay with them and she "graduated" to come home yesterday. Their employees are so friendly and offered constant encouragement for my mother and myself. They have multiple disciplines of employees that cover such a range of care and personal needs. Each employee and their roles are important for the overall success rate of improvement and healing. Of course the patient has to cooperate and be motivated. Mom was very motivated and focused on her end goal. She also formed bonds with some of the CNA's and nursing staff. There were a few issues that came up. I advised Bobbie Jordan who serves as Guest Services Director of the issues and they were quickly addressed and resolved. Staff treated my mother with kindness and dignity. I feel both are a major factors to her recovery. I would recommend this facility to others for the care and treatment of their loved ones. Thanks go out to each and every employee/staff that played a role to help her achieve her goal of returning home.

My doctor told me I would have to go on disability and would never have any significant use of my arm again. I told him "disability is not an option. I will work for a living." He laughed and put a steak dinner bet on when I would file. I cashed in on that bet and enjoyed the steak! Fortunately, the great staff at Teays Physical Therapy worked with me to prove my doctor wrong. It was a tough, but loving regiment, that I worked diligently. Seventeen years later, I am still using my arm, and can do most everyday tasks! My ability to throw a ball is greatly impaired, but I am grateful that I wasn't a professional athlete and don't need that skill to make my way through life. Cindy Skiles is a visionary professional who hires great people that attain great results. I have returned to Teays for therapy after a minor car accident. Another great experience. I recommend Teays Physical Therapy to anyone that is serious about recovering from injury!

Jessie was assigned to work with me; he was great and helped my recovery without surgery. I could not have asked for better care and treatment. In December 2022, I had a frozen left shoulder, but the scar tissue was so bad I had to undergo shoulder manipulation to break up the scar tissue. I had the procedure on December 27, 2022 and started physical therapy that afternoon at the Saint Albans location. I live in Saint Albans, so I opted to go there since I work from home. Allie worked with me for most of my visits; Tyler performed dry needling to assist with the knots in my muscles. The employees who work there seem to really care about their patients, but I cannot say the same for the owners. The employees are always working with more than one patient at the same time, sometimes it is three or four patients at the same time. I feel this is a disservice to those who need extra care or one on one attention, particularly older patients. Most days I would forgo the tens unit and heating pad because I knew Allie was working with other patients. The owners seem to care more about money than the patients who come there for treatment. I don't know if it is legal, but they are billing for multiple patients at a time. I don't think they can give each patient quality care when they are working with multiple patients at a time. I sought out massage therapy outside FSPT because some of my range of motion was not getting better because my muscles were so tight. Massage therapy made a significant difference, but I should not have to go elsewhere for massage therapy. I should have been able to have massage therapy during my physical therapy. If the owners would hire adequate staff to work with the number of patients they have scheduled and not double, triple, or quadruple book, then patients would get the care they deserve. I will not return to FPST if I require physical therapy again. They have a great staff, but they are overworked. I have been going to physical therapy three times a week since December 2022. I also think it is unprofessional for the regional manager to come out of his office and converse with the staff, not work related, while they are working with patients; the staff should be focused on their patients. The Saint Albans location could be great if the owners cared more and hired enough staff to work with the number of patients they have scheduled, instead of their employees working with three or more people at a time.

They told me what exercises to do and they stayed right there with me. They didn't go to another patient while I was exercising. When I was done with exercises, there was massage of the area, ice and EMS. My problem was solved in a few weeks. It was such a good experience and the staff was so nice, I decided to go there again when I had my knee replaced. My knee replacement was extremely hard. The pain was absolutely excruciating. They helped me get through the pain and get my knee in working order in six weeks! Again, they were right there with me guiding and encouraging me through the exercises. Poor Tanner, I actually cried on him while trying to step up on a set of stairs. He immediately had me stop. He gave me some water, calmed me down, and let me rest while talking to me about the pain. He told me we would do the steps another day and we went on with the other exercises. This, right here, is why I will always go to FSPT. The staff is absolutely wonderful. Tanner and Jordan (the director) are both terrific people. If I ever need PT again, I'll be going to FSPT in Teays Valley. I tell all my friends how great they are :)
