We golfed as a big group, trying to rush along so we weren't holding anyone up. At the end of the 17th hole a manager named Andrew (pictured)came up to my 70 plus year old mother and began to scold her and degrade her claiming he ordered her to split the family up to golf. He then also claimed he told all of us to split up at the beginning but that was a lie. No one ever spoke with him and we would have easily complied with such an easy request. The way he spoke to my mother like the way he was did get a reaction out of me to verbally protect her. His behavior was shocking especially at a mini golf place and we told him he was completely treating us horribly. He then kicked us of the course, snatching the golf clubs out of my 9, 13, and 16 year old kids very aggressively. Seemed like pretty aggressive and assaultive behavior towards children. We are in great hopes that Andrew knows he kicked out two military veterans (Vietnam War and Noble Eagle/Enduring Freedom) off the course for a very minor miscommunication from when my 70 year old mom and dad got the clubs and made payment. We are in hopes the owner will make this right with my mother and father who were just trying to spend time with their family.

My friends out there took me to FunSpot and we drove past this place and I glimpsed the setting in the forest and waterfalls and asked, WHAT IS THAT?! Luckily, it was in the cards to make it back there later in my trip! Amazing spot for a family outing, fun with friends, or a date night! I was traveling from CA, and had looked up the several Pirate's Cove options when it came up to go mini golf. I was baffled that the overall review rating was low. I almost missed this experience because of the overall weak star rating that is currently listed. Seriously, people who left negative reviews, if you live there and are able to, go back and check it out, and update your reviews.

As recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, Funspot is the LARGEST arcade in the world. Originally opened as the Weirs Sports Center, then 21-year-old Lawton opened it as an indoor miniature golf course and penny arcade with $750 borrowed from his grandmother. It was originally located in the top floor of Tarlson's Arcade building across from the Weirs Beach boardwalk. In 1964, Lawton purchased 21 acres of land nearby and relocated his business there. At this time, it was renamed "Funspot". By the 1980s, arcade cabinets and pinball machines had become the most popular attractions at Funspot. The business soon switched from quarters to tokens. Lawton continued to expand the business and even opened six satellite locations, but they all closed down by the late 1990s. Funspot was heavily featured in the 2007 film "The King of Kong": a universally-acclaimed documentary about competitive arcade gaming. Today Funspot has over 600 video games (both retro and modern), pinball machines, ticket redemption machines, an indoor miniature golf course, 20-lane ten-pin and candlepin bowling, cash bingo, a restaurant, a tavern, an ice cream stand, kiddie rides and several other attractions on its grounds. It is also home to the American Classic Arcade Museum. My extended family and I visited Funspot this past summer while we were spending the week in Maine. On one day in particular, it was a little too rainy to go to the beach. Funspot was just an hour drive from where we were staying, so we made the trip and arrived in time for the opening. I have wanted to visit Funspot ever since I saw the film "The King of Kong"; it had been on my bucket list for a while. This place is HUGE; they have so many classic arcade cabinets and pinball machines from the golden age of arcade games (roughly late 1970s to early 1980s). "Donkey Kong", "Pac-Man", "Galaga", "Frogger", you name it and they had it. My wife and I had so much fun taking turns on all of the various arcade cabinets and pinball machines. I especially enjoyed playing "JAWS" pinball in a shark cage of all places. Our two sons especially enjoyed all of the various driving games as well as all of the vintage kiddie rides. My family also enjoyed a few rounds of skee-ball and air hockey. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun; I never wanted to leave. If you are a fan of classic arcades then you simply must make the pilgrimage to Funspot!

Super easy to get tokens too ($20 gets you 110, which lasts a while since old-school games are just 1 token and newer ones run 2-4). I had a great time on Burgertime and pinball--though I wish they had the Addams Family, Millionaire was still a fun one. Beyond the arcade, they've got indoor mini golf, bowling, and even a tavern, so there's something for everyone, kids and adults alike. This place is fantastic and I'll definitely be back. Pro tip: make sure to head across the street to 603 Sweets after--perfect way to end the day.

There were many teams with their fun team shirts and lots of awards being handed out. Though busy, we didn't have to wait at all to order and get our ice creams. They had a variety of flavors. Their cones come on two sizes. I got the one scoop and it was huge. I wouldn't have been able to finish a 2 scoop in one sitting. We also walked around the welcome center, which gave visitors a chance to learn the history behind Grammy Rose's dog rescue. There were some puppies in a fenced in area but none to meet in person. They had just brought some dogs up from down south and they were in quarantine for a bit. The parking area is newly tarred. There are picnic tables and there is a bathroom in the welcome center. Guessing there must be other restrooms available when the center is closed but mini golf and ice cream open. Nice to support a place that provides homes for unwanted dogs.

The ice cream shop has so many flavors, and cone options (see picture) There is a lot of seating, with umbrellas for shade. The mini golf course is an 18 hole course with a mix of challenging and easier holes. The theme is dogs, and many of the dog statues talk and say silly things. It is very cute. The dog statues are not animatronic...nothing creepy here, all cuteness. My family and I play mini golf a lot. This place is one of the nicest, cleanest and cutest mini golf places in Maine. And, the fact that all proceeds benefit the dog rescue is an added bonus. There is very nice landscaping with many flowers around the mini golf course. The trees are not yet mature enough to provide shade, so definitely bring a hat if you go on a sunny day. At the end of course there is a case that shows pictures and profiles of dogs that are available for adoption at Grammy Rose Dog Rescue and Sanctuary. There is a very nice visitor/welcome center in the buildings across from ice cream shop. They have lots of pet related items for sale, gifts, and it looks like this is where the administrative team works. I highly recommend the ice cream and the mini golf course.
