Putting on the Ritz Catering staffs a hardworking conscientious staff of chefs, servers, and bartenders. Bobby Mitchell, the owner is nonstop busy, it seems. Nevertheless, he is responsive by phone or email within a short turnaround time. My initial contact with Bobby led to a wonderful sit down dinner reception for my daughter and son-in-law's wedding on May 8, 2026. We sampled various items on his appetizer and entree menu a few months before the wedding. In the process, we received meaningful suggestions to fit our palates and budget. My daughter wanted family-style service, and we found their servers to be attentive, swift, and accommodating throughout the evening. I was not able to sample the appetizers at the reception. However, my guests were quick to say they particularly enjoyed the shrimp and grits, lamb chop lollipops, and chicken bites. The bartenders worked efficiently to serve the bride and groom's signature drinks and other desired cocktails. The suggestion of how much liquor to procure for the event turned out to be way more than we needed. We were able to return the unopened bottles, however. We had less than stellar experiences with other caterers we considered. One in particular charged $150 per person in our group of four for us to sample their food. That tasting and the food were hardly worth the $600 price tag! Putting on the Ritz put us at ease during the week leading up to the wedding, largely because Bobby Mitchell knew the layout of venue, met with us to discuss setting up the cocktail hour and dining room, and other other helpful advice. This professional approach made for a pretty seamless event without any serious glitches. I highly recommend their food, service, and reliability. read more

Buyer beware! We worked really hard with this business to book them for our wedding because we really enjoyed the food and thought they were very reasonable and wanted to create a good working relationship. When we had to change our wedding date due to COVID-19, even though they said they were working reasonably with us and all their customers, they refused to give us our deposit back- citing bad business and that our $2500 deposit was to cover their expenses in putting together a venue and doing 1 site visit. We asked them if we could use the deposit towards our rehearsal dinner so we didn't lose our money- which they happily agreed and said they could do that date- then after a week they got back and said they could no longer do it (obviously because they booked other business). We eventually negotiated to them having us return $1,000 of our deposit back and them keeping the rest. Don't believe everything you hear with these guys- they give their word that with COVID that they want to be flexible but when it came down to the money they chose their business over the customers, citing the need to keep their ballrooms and warehouse rent up (we only contracted with them for catering services at a separate site) They definitely lost repeat customers in us and we're writing this review so that other couples trying to figure out their wedding during these times don't make the same mistake we did. read more

We had a wonderful experience with putting on the ritz for our wedding on August 25, 2017 at Belmont Manor ! Bobby and his team were more than patient with us as our number was always changing our floor plan our cocktail ideas you name it, but at every turn they just went with the flow. When i tell you people RAVED about the food ! POTR makes these asiago mashed potatoes that will make you fight for seconds. I went to my inlaws the day after my wedding and all they asked me was if i had more mashed potatoes :) . We also had a bruschetta chicken that i keep forgetting to ask bobby for the recipe because i loved it. It had tomotoes and balsamic glaze as well as cheese just my style. I've been to two weddings (okay, one was mine!) where POTR catered a brunch buffet. Pretty solid!!! Their pancake station is pretty sweet with all the fixins and a variety of flavors - buttermilk, blueberry, and chocolate chip. More bacon and sausage than one can shake a stick at, and a respectable fruit, veggie, and cheese platter make this just wonderful. My friend had an omelette station at hers, which resulted in some tasty personalized omelettes, but it really backs up with a long line. Considering that will add to traffic and the price, I'd only recommend that for a serious omelette lover. My wife and I also had a lot of their lunch fare: sandwiches, salad, and wraps (salmon pinwheels - yum!) and it's a great option in conjunction with the cheese and crudité if you want to have a light lunch. Their bar prices are hard to beat if you consider purchasing your own alcohol. Other (non-wedding) events they've catered have been really tasty! Good sandwiches and dipping foods like mini spring rolls, popcorn chicken, and always great salad. Tasty fare for all levels of budget. Would recommend. read more

Putting on the Ritz catered our wedding, and it could not have been more amazing! Delicious food, friendly and attentive staff, just an overall great experience. For the wedding we went with passed appetizers and stations; grilled cheese and tomato soup bites and bacon-wrapped scallops were the hits for appetizers, and then the pasta station, mini-pizza station, and carving station for the main course were all big hits! Not only did our guests tell us it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding, but our vendors agreed! They made sure that we got plenty of food as well, bringing us full plates and bowls while our guests were in line. It was a nice touch. Despite some tight time constraints due to some inclement weather, Neil and his team made sure that we didn't feel any of the pressure, and made our day perfect. You get what you pay for. Be warned, if you plan for a wedding and they give you a list of approved caterers, there's a reason why this company is on the cheapest. Where do I begin on how horrible the experience working with puttin on the ritz has been. From the first time we met with the coordinator for our venue at an open house at university of Maryland it was a nightmare. Rachael should not be in the business for customer service. Some folks should only work back of house if you are not approachable and care about the customer service. For instance "is the cake cutting included", the response was a snarky roll of eyes like we are stupid because "all caterers in the wedding business include cake cutting." Well Puttin on the Ritz, let it be known, majority of soon to be Wed couples are getting married for the first time. How do we know what the policy is if this is our first point of contact?? The one thing that did impress me at the open house was the food. They did make a mean steak and mashed potatoes. The meetings with Rachael were very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. It was like a used car sales pitch where they really didn't care what you liked, just make the sale and move on. If it wasn't for the time crunch, I would have parted ways with the company and found another. The two weeks leading up to the wedding were very hectic and Rachael with Puttin on the ritz made it very stressful. We had trouble with the final headcount and Rachael requested 11 per table via email. Once we moved everything around to accommodate her request, she came back and said they couldn't do tables of 11. Well why suggest t to begin with. Then there was an issue with our reception timeline being in Military time. Sorry but that's unacceptable, as what appears to be an established company, your company isn't competent enough to figure out military time. There is a reason why people use military time, to be more thorough, and obviously, they were not..... The day of the wedding was horrible. They were approximately 30 minutes late which threw off the timeline for setup or center pieces. Then there was a dispute of the soda. This is what tipped the iceberg. Puttin on the ritz stated sodas will be included in the package in writing. On the day of the wedding, they said only lemonade and water will be provided. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I'm arguing with the caterers on the day of the wedding if drinks are included. Rachael was no where to be found. We had to go through the contract line by line and physically show the manager where the sodas were included in the price. This is unacceptable on the day of the wedding. The wedding is over and everything is paid for at this point, so nothing can be done now except to warn future newly weds to spend a little more on catering and look elsewhere. And if you do go with Puttin on the ritz, avoid Rachael as a point of contact. read more

Putting on the Ritz catered my wedding last week and I couldn't have been happier! Starting with thebtasting, everything we tried was amazing so it was a hard decision. We ended up choosing spankopita, tandoori shrimp skewers, bacon wrapped scallops and veggies egg rolls for our appetizers, guests loved them! For our main course we went with the steak and crab cake, idk how they pulled it off but everyone said how amazing the food was and I couldn't agree more! The crab cake was so lump and delicious and the steak was tender and cooked perfectly. The staff was awesome to deal with and I'd recommend anyday! read more

Putting on the Ritz was awesome! They catered our wedding at the Newton White mansion, and helped make our wedding a perfect day. We are from California, so in choosing Maryland caterers, we felt like we were picking blindly: however, my father-in-law is local and recommended this place off the list of approved caterers. They were so incredibly obliging: squeezed us in to do a tasting RIGHT at Christmastime, because it was the only weekend we were local. They even set up the table with our color of linens, and played a little slideshow of our venue! It was awesome and really calmed my nerves about planning this from far away. Throughout the entire process, Stephanie was our contact, and she was very communicative and helpful. She assisted us in putting together a catering package that fit our needs--and then editing it to help it fit the space and people better when we were only a month away from the date. She came and did a walkthrough of our vendor with us, stayed in contact with us and our wedding planner, and made sure things ran smoothly. In terms of food, they have a WIDE variety of stations and appetizers and options available. Guests told me they LOVED our appetizer choices and that the sesame chicken main dish rocked. (I confess, I didn't eat much on the big day except bread...but it was really good! Not just a plain hard roll, but a fancy ciabatta with a cute little butter flower. My uncle convinced a few people thought the butter flower was white chocolate. So watch out for that. :) Overall, I had a very positive experience with these caterers in terms of food and customer service, and I would recommend them! read more

I could go on and on and on about how amazing these people are. Everything from the service to the food from the first moment to the last was impeccable. Our wedding reception was a huge success thanks to Putting on the Ritz and the even coordinator, Angie. So, this might get a little long, but here it goes. First, the food. Schedule a tasting and be prepared to be amazed. The market display is gorgeous and the Parmesan dip is out of this world! My husband could eat it with a spoon. The appetizers are elegant and they offer a huge variety. We went with the shrimp cocktail, quesadilla, spanikopita, and bruchetta. The shrimp are huge and everything is just delicious. We opted for the spinach and strawberry salad. The spinach and strawberries were fresh, the dressing was just right and the pecans on top were a perfect touch. Our main course was a station event. This included a sirloin, chicken and pasta station. The sirloin is heavenly. Its served over mashed potatoes (we like the asiago best, but they usually do garlic mashed potatoes). There are some onions on top and its accompanied by a gravy. The chicken was my favorite. Chicken breast in a tangy sauce served with grilled vegetable. I could eat this every day for the rest of my life! You can't go wrong with the pasta. Pick your pasta, pick your veggies and pick your sauce. The primavera sauce was our favorite! Finally dessert. Fresh fruit with chocolate to dip it in! If you have any room left! There were so many options to fit your budget. Not a single person complained about the food. I get compliments every day on how beautiful everything was presented. I just wish they had a restaurant because I would be there every day. The staff was beyond friendly and not intrusive at all. They do progress payments, which was great for budgeting. Someone was always available to answer my questions and their hours are very flexible. Putting on the Ritz is the easy choice for any budget wedding. They cater at plenty of locations. You can choose anything from BBQ to Fillet and all of it will be done with attention to detail no matter the price. I called this company to get pricing after speaking with 2 other catering companies to compare menus and was told that he didn't want to embarrass me with the pricing before even asking for my budget. He let me know that for a small number of attendees, it would have to be worth his while. This was after I explained to him that I am in the catering industry and understand food and beverage minimums. This person was so unprofessionally that I will never refer our outside catering needs to them from our company or anywhere else. read more

POTR was my favorite vendor to work with during the planning process and perhaps my favorite part of my wedding day! From the beginning, Claudia worked with me and my husband to create a menu that fit our budget. She was also very helpful in sharing her expertise on other vendors and the overall wedding process, which helped us immensely. For the day of, Claudia, Hector and the rest of the team truly went above and beyond to make my wedding day go smoothly. Our wedding was in the Carriage House at Gramercy Mansion and the setup was absolutely beautiful! I opted to provide my own alcohol for their bartender and forgot a key component of a signature drink. I thought everything was ruined but the staff was able to run out to acquire it rather quickly. The food was delicious both at the tasting and on the wedding day and my husband and I enjoyed our dinner at our sweetheart table. We had nothing but positive experiences in working with POTR and our family and friends were very impressed with the event. read more

I was married on 10/11/12 but haven't had time with all the holidays to write a review. If you are considering using this company please read what I had to go through before deciding. I am extremely disappointed with how things were handled. With the exception of Cindy in accounting and the staff that worked my wedding my treatment was abysmal. First, the day that I was scheduled to view the venue, the assistant wrote down the wrong time and showed up a half an hour early and we had to call to be let in. Secondly, I was quoted a different price about the ceremony chairs in person and then when I received the contracts they were a bit more expensive. The contracts themselves were riddled with errors and when I contacted Bobby about this he just scratched things out and hand wrote the correct information in. I then asked when we would have a food tasting and I was told I would be contacted sometime in January to set it up. When I did not hear from anyone in January I contacted Bobby myself. I could not get in touch with him so I called the catering company. I asked what I needed to do in order to set up a day and I was told to pick a date, so I asked if we could come in two days from the day I placed the call, I was then told rudely I had to give a weeks notice. Why not just say that when I asked originally? I was then forwarded a document I had to complete in four days for the tasting, the day after I received the document I got an email from an assistant telling me if I did not complete the document we would not have the tasting. The tasting seemed to go well but afterwards Bobby demanded we sign clean copies of the contracts (which is what I wanted originally). The contracts however, where still not correct saying we owed money when everything had been paid off. Cindy in accounting knew what was going on but apparently Bobby was not in contact with her. I would have to email him three times and have my husband email him before I would receive a response back. He "went on vacation" an awful lot in 3 months. My mother in law also had this problem with him about not contacting her back in a timely manner, especially when we had the rehearsal dinner at the venue just so we could tack down the rehearsal date. He wouldn't let me do that earlier than a month in advance in case there was a "paying customer" who needed the venue that day. Even though we paid probably a lot more than a business who might require a place to throw a luncheon on Columbus Day. Not only ALL of that, I had told him how upset I was with how I was being treated and he didn't really apologize or suggest a way to fix that I was upset. I told him well in advance when I would be arriving to the venue the day of to get ready. The night of the rehearsal dinner while we were eating and the day of the wedding while I was getting ready the venue was shown. This is highly unprofessional. I will never do business with this company ever again and I have told all my friends about my experience with them, I suggest if you are thinking about looking into this place you look somewhere else. If you do decide to use them do not have Bobby help you with your wedding. read more
