I appreciated Chef Jess' enthusiasm, kindness, patience and sense of humor--especially so early in the morning. Macarons can be intimidating but she set up our expectations at the beginning of the class and taught us helpful techniques. The macarons turned out decent looking but tasted delicious! The class is a fun opportunity to learn, bond with friends and meet new people (especially if you're teamed up with them - you're put into in groups of 4). You get a 10% in-store discount if you shop the day of your class. I appreciated that Chef Jess gave us a brief store tour; I ended up buying a couple of her recommendations. Can't wait for my next class! All the Sur La Table staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The store is well organized and the available samples are always a fun perk.

I came across Walla Challah via either Facebook group recommendations or Google search (can't remember which off-hand) While my wife and I, unfortunately, didn't get a chance to try the challah or fruit ourselves, we received many accolades on the flavor and presentation of the challah from our guests. He arrived at our home in what I call his mobile kitchen (because he had everything in it that one could imagine), introduced himself to us and got down to business. We had a few small plate items, entree and dessert. He talked to us while he prepared the meals and it simply felt like he was a friend. It did not feel weird or awkward having him in our kitchen at all. It was great! He gave us tips on cooking at he prepared meals and spoke to us more about who he was (in and out of the kitchen). I have had meal services with others before and this is by far the most skilled cooking of farm to table meals. I think it's a good value. One recent review I read was really not fair about "scam". That's just not true but I understand the frustration that led to a misunderstanding. I know the owner/chef was busy and working to try improve their marketing, ordering app, and communications. It's a small business so you just have to contact her directly if there is an issue and she will take care of it. I did that every time and I was patient because I want this good cooking to last to feed my family. Seems like great people. I've spoken to her and met the staff who deliver food to my house. The personal chef, in this case it was the owner Rakita, comes to your home with her own ingredients/food and prepares the entire meal for you. They do use your pots/pans and cooking utensils. The only thing they require of you is a working stove and oven, other than that, you can sit back and relax and have them cook and CLEAN UP for you. Yes, you read that correctly, they even wash the dishes and clean up after preparing the meal. They serve you the wine and all of your courses, so you literally can sit back and relax. Who's the genius that thought of this idea because I can truly get used to this!!!! I was able to choose my menu from her various selections of a prefix menu. I decided on the "Southern/Cajun Influenced" dinner. This included: Appetizers - Deviled Eggs Main Course: Smothered Chicken with Braised Collard Greens and Seasoned Potatoes Dessert: Signature Pound Cake. Everything was delicious! Granted a few issues occured with the potatoes and chicken not being cooked thoroughly, but Rakita promptly corrected the issue. The portions were plenty for 2 people to devour. I would've loved bigger slices of cake (it was jammin' on the one) but I'm a little on the greedy side when it comes to delicious desserts, so what would you expect from me! If you plan on booking this catering company for an occasion, you must BOOK EARLY! Weekends are understandably their busiest time, but if you plan well in advance I'm sure they will be able to accommodate your schedule. Also, after you do book your catering experience, make sure you request a confirmation/reminder email from the staff because I experienced some confusion on the date of my dinner. Keep in mind that they serve Hyattsville and surrounding areas. Check with IB to make sure they serve your area. They not only cater romantic dinners for 2 like I requested, but they also cater private events/celebrations, teach culinary demonstrations and wine/food pairings.
