I signed a contract with Sid and PV Tech in August 2025 for a new PV system and also specifically including repairs to my existing PV system. It is now June 2026 - 10 months later! - and the new system is in but my existing PV system has still not been repaired. I find myself constantly contacting them to come back and finish the repairs, but on multiple occasions a date is set and then nobody shows up. This just happened again last week. I feel quite frustrated. The technicians that I have dealt with have been great, but I am very tired of spending my time trying to get the front office to finish this repair request. While I picked them because they are based in Manoa and I wanted to support a local business, I cannot recommend them. Half of my panels are still not working and thus I am losing more money every month this goes on. Beware if they make promises to fix your existing system in order to get you to hire them. read more

An example of how honest and refreshing g it is to work with PV Tech, I spoke with Sid several years after installation about the battery backup option, and since I generate much more than I consume, and power outages are pretty rare, he suggested that this would not be a necessary expense, and recommended against it. I NEVER write reviews but Sid and his team at PV Tech were so professional and accommodating that I felt compelled to write. Sid explained the process clearly and answered all my questions. The PV Tech team kept me informed and updated throughout the entire process and every step of the process went smoothly. We made it difficult for them because we requested that the panels be installed quite a distance from the electric meter, which meant running a long conduit, but they never complained and the installation was completely flawless. I first worked with Sid over 10 years ago and have occasionally asked him questions about solar systems and benefits. He has always been straight with us and at one time after reviewing our bill and our electric needs he actually recommended that we didn't really need to add to our solar system. It's rare that someone in business would be this honest with a possible client and not take advantage. This is why we trust Sid and PV Tech. We eventually decided to add a few more panels and a battery. We were not over-sold a system. Our goal was to get the monthly bill as low as possible. The team showed up and got everything installed quickly. Eric, Richard, and Ted are all very good at what they do, and worked quickly to get any small issues resolved. We used the GEMS program to cover cost of the system, no payments for two years, no interest if paid off in two years. Not sure if everyone can use the GEMS program but it worked well for us. When purchasing a house, there is no way you would think about installing solar panels on your roof... I mean how could you qualify for a loan with a huge loan for the house already?! We were in quite a tough spot when the seller's agent let us know that the house was approved for solar panels and that the extension expiration would be coming up in a month or two. I decided to call PV tech because they were the company that they have put in the application with. I wanted to hear how much something like this would cost and the program that was applied for. Sid met up with me and explained everything. He gave me the options of different solar panels and explained things so that I could understand. The reason why I decided to go with it was because it was the original NEM program and he also told me about a special financing program. This program has given me the ability to get a loan even after the loan out for our house. Shawna, the office manager, has always been so helpful. She has submitted all documents for my loan to get approval and was there to answer all my questions. Throughout this process of almost 4 months, whenever I needed clarification or updates, Shawna was quick to get the answer and to reply to me. At some parts of this process I felt like I could give this company a three star but, I decided to wait till the end. The installation of solar panels is a long process especially if you weren't expecting to get them or haven't done your research. I had to get some information on what I needed by calling HECO. On days where I expected my electrician he wasn't able to come. I am not too sure if he didn't have the right number to notify me or what but, that was irritating. The communication of the process and where we were. Basically, it's a waiting game. Overall... I am happy with our panels, just waiting for the guy to come and power our system since our meter was changed out by HECO. Sid and Shawna were awesome. Although I have never heard of PV Tech, I am glad that Sid was there to help give me guidance with the loan program which I would've never known about... and provide me with the panels on my roof. I had been doing research on solar PV comparing owned versus lease and did get several quotes. PV Tech may not have been the least expensive but they were very reasonable (approximately $1,000 per panel). They came through with everything on time and as promised. They helped us with the financing process and submitted the required paperwork for permits and approvals from our association.
